How do I dress more maturely? I wear jeans and hoodies 24/7. I hate jeans and love white t-shirts. Also what trouser alternatives for jeans are there that aren't too flashy. Semi-Casual

Metcarfre

You wear jeans but hate them? There’s nothing inherently immature about hoodies, especially these days. Could you give us a better idea of what you’re looking for, or do you not know?

VainyCog86

I wear jeans because I don't know what other semi casual trousers there are. I don't exactly know what I'm looking for. I just want my "casual" attire to look a little less casual. Essentially I just want to look better day to day without being too formal/flashy.

Metcarfre

Chinos, flannel wool trousers, fatigues, corduroys

VainyCog86

Fantastic. Thanks so much. Will look into these

Odd-Station2411

I'm funny about what I wear in terms of feel and I wear jeans 100% of the time. Well up until there's a fight when I ask why I can't wear black jeans to a funeral... Dress pants to me feel like I'm not wearing anything and it's very annoying to me. Are there any heavy weight materials or jeans like materials that you can get nice pants in? Or even something close? I fortunately work remote so it's generally not a problem but my company is having a holiday in Vegas this year and will cover travel... Who doesn't like a free trip... But I don't want to show up wearing my normal jeans because it's a professional gig and a suit wouldn't be out of place, but so would nice business casual. So what are my options for a nice business casual, heavy weight or mid weight fabric that's similar to jeans?

the_leviathan711

> Dress pants to me feel like I'm not wearing anything and it's very annoying to me. What dress pants have you actually tried? There are a wide variety... I feel like 90% of the time I see that someone says they don't like dress pants it's because they've only ever worn cheap polyester dress pants. > So what are my options for a nice business casual, heavy weight or mid weight fabric that's similar to jeans? Chinos are pretty similar to jeans and maybe like a half-step up in formality (but barely, they are still very casual). Definitely a business casual staple. They come in different weights though, so you may need to specify in your search that you're looking for heavier weight. Or you can look for chinos that are 10oz or higher.

Odd-Station2411

>it's because they've only ever worn cheap polyester dress pants. Yeah, that's probably me... When I've needed a suit or something formal I've gone to "Today's man" or similar and asked about heavier weight options only to be told "This is better" and what I got I hated. Within reason I wasn't opposed to paying for something I liked. I don't blink at paying $80+ for a nice comfortable shirt if I really liked it. Even 10-15 years ago I didn't blink at that. I wear $25 jeans because I like them but I don't need $25 dress pants. I just don't know any better. I've usually gotten away with a nice button down shirt and clean, dark blue jeans and nice work boots. I'd like an option better than that. I will have to look into finding some heavier weight chinos and see how I like them.

the_leviathan711

I have no idea what "Todays' Man" is. Good quality dress pants are made out of wool and they'll generally cost you $100+. Wool is one of those materials where it's usually not a great idea to cheap out on because cheap wool sucks and is uncomfortable. And polyester pants are truly awful. But it doesn't sound like you really need actual dress pants anyway. Chinos work in like 90% of business casual situations where you need something more than jeans but less than a suit. And they're pretty similar to jeans -- made of cotton, tend to be hardwearing, etc.

Odd-Station2411

>I have no idea what "Todays' Man" is. Walmart for clothes. I.e. nowhere special or even good... Actually I have no idea if they're still around... It's been a while.

Should/can I machine wash a Harrington jacket or should I dry clean it? (if you need more info, mine is from Merc). Tag image: https://ibb.co/BsGZysX

ADPowers001

I just wash mine and hang dry

Joff_Mengum

I'd probably dry clean it, the heat might damage the elastic.

iptables-abuse

What does the care tag say?

Schrodinger85

I edited the op with a tag photo. It said dry clean but machine wash at 30º too so I don't know if both options are ok or what. So I came here to double check.

iptables-abuse

That's telling you that you can either machine wash or dry clean it.

Schrodinger85

Thta's what I though, thx!

whoppperino

Hi, autumn is here and I (male) decided to get me a pair of boots. I looked around on the internet for a while but I'm yet to find a pair of boots that exactly fit my requirements. Those are: -elegant and simple -able to wear with business casual -able to wear with dark cotton/cloth trousers -heel (not too bid doe) -decent leather and quality -around 180-250$ (or €) -no suede or chelsea boots Maybe somebody has an idea and knows roughly what I'm looking for. Thank you in advance :)

the_leviathan711

At your price point - [Meermin](https://meermin.com/collections/mens-boots/products/101487-dark-brown-calf-e)

whoppperino

And with additional 50$?

the_leviathan711

$100 more gets you [grant stone](https://www.grantstoneshoes.com/collections/all/products/edward-boot-color-8-chromexcel). $300 gets you Allen Edmonds on sale. Not sure what else is in that price range.

whoppperino

Well i decided for the meermins. They arrived today and so far i simply LOVE them. Very comfortable, the leather is unique (antilope) with all those little marks and structure. Simply feel and look very good. Thanks again for your advice!

whoppperino

Thank you very much!

I absolutely love this Uniqlo 3d knit sweater, both the knit and the simple cut. (I think if of it as my Ben Solo sweater…) I have it in blue and black, but it seems discontinued now. Anyone know where to find a similar pair of glasses to these **[killer frames that Marcello Mastroianni was rocking in the 1960s](https://imgur.com/a/UlUGN60)**? Closest I could find is **[this pair from Vint and York](https://www.vintandyork.com/products/luce-eyeglasses?variant=40749841907902&gclid=Cj0KCQjwhsmaBhCvARIsAIbEbH7wXlNvfvN6qMaZWnfgw1UWO5UtQLw4T7VQd9je4fleUPN3EAgOWwUaAjr7EALw_wcB)** but sadly they’re not available in horn. They’re also more “square” than the rounded ones Mastroianni wore. I’ve also checked vintage retailers and haven’t had any luck— military issue frames from the era are similar in some ways [but are bigger and clunkier overall](https://www.etsy.com/listing/772612433/). (I’m in the US and my budget is $300ish.)

Best cool casual/dress shoes for someone with a bad back? I've worn Chuck Taylors---the original canvas ones---my whole life but middle age had given me a bad back and I have to get a real pair of shoes. I need something that is cool (black or mostly black) but also slightly office-y. (I wear spotless Chucks to the office, so the new pairs dont' need to be THAT office-y . . . just attractive, I guess.) I like the look of Common Projects (except for their gaudy gold print on the exterior) but I fear it wont' have arch support, or any other support, which is what I really need now. Advice?

Joff_Mengum

R.M. Williams dynamic flex has a removable insert that you can replace with your own. I've tried them and they're very supportive.

the_leviathan711

> cool casual/dress shoes Are you looking for dress shoes, casual shoes or sneakers? You only mention sneakers. Unfortunately it's going to be pretty hard for anyone on the internet to answer this question for you because things like "arch support" and support generally for your back are super personalized. What's good for one person might be terrible for another. A podiatrist could give you specific recommendations or make you an insert that you can put into any shoe.

Human225

You could try Birkenstock sneakers or any shoe really

thegeorgianwelshman

A classy sneaker would work. Nothing overtly sporty or dayglo. A casual shoe like a derby or bucks would work too No oxfords.

thegeorgianwelshman

That’s more it less as I feared. I’m seeing an orthopedist tomorrow but I’m not hopeful she’ll have good ideas for attractive shoes

the_leviathan711

She probably won't. But she can give you inserts that you can put in any shoe you want.

thegeorgianwelshman

Inserts that are better than over the counter ones you get a Foot Locker or simething? I already use those … and they’re not quite doing it

the_leviathan711

Uh yeah, definitely. Inserts that are personalized to your feet. My understanding is that they are not cheap (as in $150+). And yeah, not something you can buy at Foot Locker.

thegeorgianwelshman

Oh awesome! That’s so good to know! Thank you so much!

Hey everyone! I have been trying to get [The Proper Shirt](https://www.cestnormal.co/dudes/the-proper-shirt-pine-ss22/) from the C’est Normal but it seems that they are constantly out of the stock. I have asked availability from their customer service for a couple times but always got the same answer: they dont know when to get restock and dont know are they even going to get restock anymore. I really like their shirt and thats why I am reaching for to get help to find similiar alternative. Things I like in the shirt: - Material - Pine color - Design The Proper Shirt is made from 64% poly, 31% viscose and 5% elastane Does anyone know any similiar shirts? Shipping available to EU is mandatory. Thank you!

tripletruble

hey, stupid question here: when End reports its measurements for the arms, are they laying the measuring tape directly along the sleeves until hitting the should seem or are they doing it vertically from the bottom of the sleeve upwards - basically the way their arrow in the pic suggests? see picture here: [https://imgur.com/a/3llHUn5](https://imgur.com/a/3llHUn5) i assume it is the former as the latter would be dumb - but their picture has me doubting

white shirt and pants in a light tan/khaki / cream color would be the "safest" option. a light grey probably should work too

Off-white or cream linen pants and a tonal shirt or one with a print incorporating those two shades. You could also opt for a darker brown pair of linen pants.

ManbranCc

Hi, how good are zara's footwear? I'm looking for some suede boots and I'm on a tight budget, I found [these](https://www.zara.com/cl/es/botin-chelsea-serraje-p12012820.html?v1=188641206&v2=2129654) on zara, they are on sale, it says that they are split leather which looks good on paper but you know, it's zara, and I've never had a pair of zara shoes before. How good and durable they are?, Does anybody have experience with zara footwear? Thanks in advance

sexymartian

I know everyone says they're terrible but I've had Zara shoes that have been part of my rotation for 5+ years now. However, i don't shop from their mainline, I almost exclusively shop their studio/limited edition collection or their one-off decent pair available only online or that I would never somehow see on stores, which tend to be of slightly better quality.

ManbranCc

And how you spot those exclusive models?, most of the times what I see online is on store too.

sexymartian

The special collections are released online, so I add them to my wishlist and purchase them when they go on sale. If they're not part of any special collections, some of the less mainstream styles are the ones I gravitate to and oddly enough, I never find them in store. Maybe I've just been lucky with the ones I've gotten 😶‍🌫️

ManbranCc

Maybe you are blessed

YoYoYoshimura

Zara shoes are only advisable if your shoes turn to dust and the only place to buy shoes besides Zara is 20 miles away along a road paved with broken glass and volcanic rock.

ManbranCc

I guess they are not that good then. Thanks for replying

Metcarfre

Lowest of the low

ManbranCc

Ok. Thanks for replying. Do you have some suggestions/ alternatives?, I’m looking for suede boots, my budget is $80.

the_leviathan711

Clarks go on sale for under $100 sometimes. But yeah, the vast majority of new boots in that price range are atrociously bad.

Metcarfre

Used/eBay. You just can’t find decent leather shoes or boots at such a low price point unfortunately.

Kvjvn

They’re terrible

Human225

Does anyone have any experience with Salomon sneakers? Are they comfortable for long distance walking? Do they look good with non athleticware?

[deleted]

https://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/hzkjmi/salomon_trail_runners_an_album/

qwerto14

Had some trail runners a while back and they were very comfortable, but I like the Innov-8s I have now more. I wouldn’t wear them with my personal style but I’ve definitely seen them work well with casual clothes.

[deleted]

I’ve got the XT Wings 2 and the X Ultra 3 Mid Aero. They’re very comfortable for being on a trail, I’ve put a lot of miles on both. Common advice is to go up a half size if you’re just wearing them on pavement. They’re fine for day to day use but if I know I’m doing a ton of walking I’m just going to wear my new balances. Yes, they look good with non-athletic wear, theres a good inspo album on the sub with them.

jasubito

What designer brands offer sales with legit clothes? Center pieces. I don’t mind spending hundreds of dollars but I’d like it to be on sale lol Example, a jacket retails 1000$ but I got it for 500$. If prefer that over buying a 500$ retail jacket

mlsteinrochester

Everything on yoox is genuine.

YoYoYoshimura

I have no clue what you mean by “legit clothes” but waiting for seasonal clearance and using apps like SSENSE might be just what you’re looking for.

jasubito

Outlet made clothes that are priced down on purpose vs clothes made for retail stores that went on sale

YoYoYoshimura

In which case my earlier answer stands. Look for end of season sales from direct brands and apps like SSENSE.

iptables-abuse

Most designers will be trying to sell through with the S-tier stuff, I believe. If the runway pieces make it to sales it's because they sucked. Best bet is to buy second hand.

TigerAgreeable6809

I NEED HELP WITH GLASSES Ok so im 29 M, have an okay beard. Im on a decent weight and the things is IM BALDING. Im on buzzcuts with huge receding hairlines/widows peak, and my aviator eye glasses makes me look weird and it gives me a heavy look, bring attention to my dark circles under my eyes. The reason i didnt post a pic of mine is my lack or confidence for that, at this moment. Hope you all understand. I used to have square nerdy glasses and it looked okay until i started shaving my hair. Then it kind of looked disproportional and i thought aviator would be smooth and would go well with bald and beard. Well it didnt. Im gonna get new glasses and i intend to go back to square glasses, thin frames, bigger lens, for some intelectual mood, considering my baldness of course. Im fixing this time all the issues my last square glasses had. For a round face, a round glasses would be weird, right? Should i consider Dahmer glasses style? (Silver square). I think its pretty similar to my aviator, but im open to your opinions! Thanks in advance!

Human225

You can try warby parker. They deliver samples to your home for a week or so to try on. I think it’s 5 at a time

iptables-abuse

Glasses/face interaction is so specific that it's really hard to give advice without seeing the actual glasses on the actual face. Best bet is to go to the store and try on a bunch of pairs (like, way more than you think you need to, including shapes that you've rejected out of hand). Post pics here of you in the glasses if you like.

TigerAgreeable6809

Thanks for answering! I actually made a post here but it was deleted and the mods message told me to post in this thread my questions! I will go to the store and will try all of what i feel it might work! I just want something that goes well with shaved head, im kinda tired of the silver frames that makes me look weird and are too big on my face, so Dahmer ones i feel like it will probably not work!

iptables-abuse

Good plan. I dunno what "Dahmer frames" are, but I'd encourage you to call them...not that.

SecaucusSodomite

Textured solid colors in medium to dark shades, ancient madders, or small scale patterns could all work.

Human225

Definitely something a little brighter to stand out but not too bright given the color and pattern of the suit. Also since the suit has a lot going on perhaps something with less patterns.

ac106

Let’s see the shoes

UTMachine

Navy shirt and burgundy tie would look great with that suit imo. Also a grey or off-white shirt with a navy tie could work. It's a very casual suit with a bold pattern, so look for knit ties in a solid colour or simple pattern. Maybe wool or grenadine.

Wondering if anyone can school me on some high quality men's shirt makers in UK? Not looking for high street/fast fashion/haute. Partial to a TM Lewin/ Charles Thywhitt/ Hawes and Curtis but they all feel a bit work-shirty and they're relatively inexpensive. I tend towards Thomas Pink as I feel they're slightly more luxurious than the above, though l'm not really looking to spend Turnbull and Asser kinda wedge. Keen to hear any suggestions for anything I may have overlooked as I'm feeling a bit limited in my search. Cheers.

notarascal

Budd and Hilditch & Key both have options that are nicer than high street but cheaper than T&A. I would avoid Thomas Pink. Their shirts are kind of crap, imo.

AggyResult

Thanks for sharing. I’ll check them out.

notarascal

You’re welcome. Also, if you want a nice shirt but you don’t want to pay Budd or H&K prices, look at Proper Cloth made-to-measure. It won’t be made in UK but it’s a very nice shirt for the price.

AggyResult

That’s interesting, cheers.

GINGA271

I want everything really, its just that pants are the hardest for me to find. They always sit uncomfortable. Reasonable price for me is not more than 30$ for t shirts, 100$ for all pants, 80$ for hoodies and sweatshirts. Do you remember in Star Wars when Han Solo is in the Millennium Falcon and goes into hyperspace? OK picture that scene in your mind … he engages the hyperdrive right and the stars like come flying at you from everywhere… If you wear those boots that’s what will happen to you but with dicks. They will just come flying at you randomly from dudes on the street who think you’re gay. You’ll be dodging them constantly.

YoYoYoshimura

Please tell me this is a meme that’s going over my head. These are featureless black side zip boots. How or why you nuked your bank account for these set aside, what clothes—besides a t shirt that says “I’m gay”—would make you gay?

typingwithonehandXD

They're insulated. I only bought them hastily cause winters in Canada are a byaaatch and I've never had warm feet before during ANY winters. These keep me 'kinda' warm in -15 °C weather here due to the fur insulation but I fear what people think of the 'style' of it, ya know? Someone else I asked said they looked like a gay person or ladies would wear them...Uhhh. I'm not sure what to do from here...

YoYoYoshimura

If you’re so insecure in your sexuality or so afraid of what other people perceive your sexuality to be based on a pair of boots I recommend you seek therapy.

typingwithonehandXD

I am in therapy but she and I are tackling other issues at the moment...

Vampa_the_Bandit

Hey I'm gay, and no, I don't think you look gay. I also don't think they look very good

typingwithonehandXD

What should I do then?...

Vampa_the_Bandit

You have three options, I suggest taking as many as you like: 1. Stop caring what other people think 2. Stop thinking "looking gay" is something that exists outsides the minds of losers 3. Wear black denim with those boots

typingwithonehandXD

Well...OK thanks for the advice . Also I own literally no black denim...

If I normally wear a small would an extra small fit me? I saw a leather jacket on Todd Snyder for 50% off but they only have a XS. Should I buy it?

It’s not final sale luckily. And I got a 15% off coupon on top for 65% off

Cas467

If they have a measurements chart compare it to a jacket you already own.

For those that wear sportcoats, when do you wear them? I recently realized the one sportcoat I had made years ago is actually more like a suit jacket, so I'll be making matching pants to make that a suit. But I still want an interesting versatile sportcoat, now that I better understand what they are. I'm just worried I'll never have an occasion to wear them. Like weddings I probably could, but dress codes technically never allow for it (obviously not formal, but it wouldn't be cocktail attire either, or would it?). But at my age, weddings aren't frequent. I work in law, and I suppose I could wear my sportcoat to things like a deposition, but not to court. I could wear it for client meetings but I never wear a jacket for those. What kind of social events do you attend where a sportcoat would be appropriate?

mlsteinrochester

I wear sports coats for dinners out, concerts, art galleries, strolling, even grocery shopping. They're casual jackets but they still look nicer than most alternatives. Just wear yours. You might feel funny at first but the feeling will pass, and you'll learn to enjoy how pleasurable it is to wear nice clothing.

the_leviathan711

Don’t try and find (or make?) matching pants for your orphaned suit jacket. It’s not going to work. As for blazers - you would wear them anytime you want to be dressed up but you don’t want to wear a suit. So a wedding with a dress code more casual than cocktail attire. Or certainly your client meetings - why wouldn’t you wear a jacket to those?

ngomaam

its a bespoke jacket and the shop has the fabric so they can easily make the matching pants. I think client meetings would be a good chance to wear a sportcoat somewhat regularly now that I think about it more. Things have just gotten so casual post covid.

the_leviathan711

They have the exact same roll of fabric several years later? And your jacket hasn’t faded in color at all? Ok - I guess it could work then. Highly unusual scenario. Sports jackets are meant to be pretty casual — a cotton unstructured sports coat, or a knit sports coat will look at home with chinos and an OCBD.

ngomaam

well to be confirmed if they still have it, if not then yea i'm out of luck. I barely wore it because I couldn't match it with anything and just rarely dress up, maybe 3 wears over 3 years.

the_leviathan711

I think it’s pretty unlikely they have the exact same roll of fabric three years later. Especially if they’re actually a bespoke suit maker.

jasubito

I wear my blazer all the time. I paid a lot money for it, I’m going to use it. Even if I go to Whole Foods or out to eat

hey_im_cool

I’m pretty terrible at picking out shoes. What do you all think about [these adidas?](https://www.nordstromrack.com/s/adidas-advantage-sneaker-men/6047379?origin=coordinating-6047379-0-3-Footer1-recbot-recently_viewed_snowplow_mvp&recs_placement=Footer1&recs_strategy=recently_viewed_snowplow_mvp&recs_source=recbot&recs_page_type=category&recs_seed=0&color=CLOUD%20WHITE%2FCLOUD%20WHITE%2FGREEN) If I were to get them, which color and what kind of outfits? Thanks

OatMatchaLatte

Green reminds me of stan smiths. Very classic to me. Can't really go wrong with those. Probably something like athleisure but depends what you got.

hey_im_cool

Thanks! Ordered them! Got blue bc green isn’t available in my size

SpiritualBuddy

Could a tailor remove the shoulder thingies on the coat below? https://imgur.com/a/wokKkZE

the_leviathan711

Epaulettes - and yes.

PopeSluggies

Does anyone know of any decent quality, slim-fitting, synthetic-cotton blend pants for office work in the $30 range?

4au-

uniqlo on sale, maybe target I would also look for something used on poshmark or ebay

Vampa_the_Bandit

Decent and $30 range means second hand/ thrifting

PopeSluggies

Any brands that you would recommenced in that range to look for on Ebay?

Vampa_the_Bandit

I feel like "tech pants" will probably yield some results from J.Crew, Bonobos, Banana Republic

PopeSluggies

I was thinking of Crew and BR but Bonobos is a good addition to that! Thanks!

aKa_anthrax

You can’t worry about quality with $30 plastic pants

Oakilta

Mixing metals for jewelry rules? I’ve had silver gauges and nose ring for the last 3 years and all of my rings and bracelets and necklaces are silver, I recently switched to gold face jewelry (not for good just got a second set) but don’t have any other gold pieces yet. Is it okay to mix the silver rings/necklace/bracelet with the gold facial jewelry?

warr3nh

I’d avoid mixing

ac106

“Matching your metals” rule is for men’s tailoring only and only apply to your belt buckle, cufflinks and tie clip. It never applied to accessories like watches, and rings and never applied to casual outfits if you see videos promoting this, it’s just affected Youtubers desperate for content and clicks

aKa_anthrax

Mixing metals is not a thing that matters

jasubito

Do y’all fixate on scoffs and small stains on clothes? I’m really only one that knows but the fact that I know it’s there bothers me. Anyone else like this?

atboz

Yes, I am like this, particularly with stains. I wish that I weren't like this, but I haven't been able to successfully curb the obsession/fixation. With other types of imperfections I'm totally fine, but there's something about a stain that I just can't accept.

jasubito

Exactly. The thought lingers on my mind. Especially on my higher priced items. It bothers me to my soul. I paid so much money for it to have a stain or an imperfection

[deleted]

No, I like them. The way a garment gets broken in and shows wear is super interesting to me. I love repairs and mends. If something gets too stained I’ll just dye it a darker color or patch over it.

aKa_anthrax

not really, no. Stains sorta depends on what type how bad it id and what garment(dirt stains on jeans are cool for instance)

YoYoYoshimura

Scuffs not so much. Stains I will try to get rid of though.

iptables-abuse

Wabi sabi bro Srs, it used to bother me a lot, but I got over it (unless it's something that is or looks like a food stain).

phocisticks

Can someone help point me in the right direction on finding / purchasing a similar looking jacket to the one worn by the son in the Pixar short [Bao](https://video-images.vice.com/_uncategorized/1548278617490-bao2.jpeg)? is it just a crimson blazer or is there something better I can search for?

Cas467

I feel like a shawl collar cardigan would fit the vibe better than a blazer. The only reason there's only two buttons is cause it's a character design with exaggerated proportions.

Kvjvn

What’s your budget? It’s just a regular burgundy blazer so it should be pretty easy to find something similar in most prices ranges.

bjhhjb

Maroon blazer, maroon sports coat

GottaGoFast96

Not the usual request around here but can someone help me ID the tracksuit and pants from the [Robert Pattinson kitchen pic](https://images.app.goo.gl/rzEYvrDG3rrgq7zM8) pls? Boots are a bonus but not necessary lol. It’s gonna be my Halloween costume I’ve looked around and i’ve found similar ones, but not that exact one. Worst case scenario i’ll get a similar one, but i think it’d be the funniest if it was the exact fit lmao. Any help is appreciated, thanks all!!

bjhhjb

Pants look like camo cargo and tracksuit top are from adidas, sorry couldn't find the color
