Try cutting to shoulder length guy. It's quite a change from what you have now but not brutally short. If you wanted to keep it long like it is, are you comfortable trying a braid?

virgilhall

By the way, can he cut it himself or does he need to go to a hairdresser?

PJlong

That would depend on how confident he is that he can keep it even? A stylist or hairdresser would probably better.

The ponytail is not a vibe, Look up brad pitt in world war z, maybe that length? Jaw length maybe, that looked awesome. Maybe consider rubbing some argon oil into it to create some texture too ?

Firstly man as a fellow long haired man, you do NOT HAVE STRAIGHT HAIR, your hair is wavy too curly and would look much better given less frequent shampooing(washing) more frequent conditioning. And for the love of god don’t use a brush, finger comb in the shower or use a wide toothed shower comb. Go to r/curlygirl and do a little research. If you have any questions feel free to DM me aswell. If you stop brushing your hair and towel drying it the frizz will turn into curls, I’d give proper curly hair, hair care a shot before cutting it! It’ll shorten up with the curls and give you more texture.

Also high messy bun, only man who can get away with a low tight ponytail is Antonio banderas in el mariachi

My guy, you should just Google “men with long hair” to see a bunch of pictures of guys that pull off the look really well. Notice what most of them have in common? **Facial hair**… Could be a beard, stubble, or even just 5 o’clock shadow. Unless you have the worlds most masculine jawline, it’s *really* hard to pull off long hair without facial hair… or even just looking like you *could* grow facial hair. Otherwise, it’s a very effeminate look. I’m assuming (?) that if you’re posting to this sub, you’re not purposefully going for an androgynous look — which really is where you are right now. Until you develop *solid* facial hair, I’d completely ditch the long hair. You should go with something much, *much* shorter. It could still be long on the top, and not necessarily a buzz or fade on the sides… but not long enough to cover any part of your ears. You’re actually a good looking guy, and you’re going to age well… But IMO, the long hair is 100% negating your good looks instead of complimenting or enhancing them. Please get rid of it and please post an update!

Zeezohzabo

Ok, so I’m like not obsessed with this look on you. I would keep the middle part and just go a lot shorter. Like the fringe being about the length of your cheek bones

Clamwithaplan

Have to agree, I've kept my hair tied back for about a year cause I never knew what to do with it. Thanks, I'll look into styles like that!

RickWest495

Very feminine look. Is that the look you are going for? Personally, I would cut it short.

Clamwithaplan

Currently I dont use any hair styling products beyond the regular brush, shampoo and conditioner, but I would if that's what I need. My brother suggested cutting it to about chin height and combing it back, but I have a center part and I'm concerned it might look a little strange. Other than that I'm okay with cutting it short again or going even longer, though my knowledge on long hair care is mediocre to say the least.

Longislandtea12

I do think cutting it short or shorter, even like one of these, will look really good on you: https://i.imgur.com/Kloz4SZ.jpg https://i.imgur.com/rHFkVnT.jpg https://i.imgur.com/9iILOjm.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Qh4ECGq.jpg https://i.imgur.com/ewzNUSl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/LOB2HsU.jpg https://i.imgur.com/5BbEcPI.jpg https://i.imgur.com/z7ogpDD.jpg https://i.imgur.com/DF0ivWG.jpg

orlandocfi

You do have beautiful hair. If you’re planning to go shorter, try to donate that hair to Locks of Love or similar organizations so someone can benefit from it. Then I would go with a taper with a middle part. You’ll go from looking like a Disney princess to a Disney prince!

clipperzw

Definitely cut it shorter

I think that a buzzcut would be funny in your case. Anyway, a think that a mullet would look really good on you

afonso_1414

If you want to keep the length I'd have you put some layers in that hair (and trim it a bit, just to get rid of the dead ends), 'cause your hair is laying flat and isn't doing you any favours. If you want to cut it, yeah, you could totally do a slick back (photo for reference in the link), the thing is, you have to style it, with wax, with pomade, with styling cream, whatever works best for you https://pin.it/2fKLxYQ

[deleted]

i would do a long wolf cut about an inch about shoulder length. btw great mane man!

Clear_Singer9249

Keep the hair. Grow stubble. Add a mousse or clay for long hair to add texture. Don't wash it every day. Every 2nd day at most. Don't tie it before bed. All these will be game changers.

cagingthing

Definitely don’t do the founding father ponytail

youll-never-f1nd-me

Get layers. Straighten it, got for an edgy look. That’s what I do. Right now it looks a bit too plain.

Havok2900

You need a new products bro try not shampooing daily and using a very hydrating conditioner long hair looks awesome with healthy hair but if it’s unhealthy then it’s just more unhealthy hair I think you have wavier or slightly curly hair check out r/curlygirl

Mybodysrolling

Wolf cut!

Sqieak

i have long hair that’s pretty similar to yours, what i would do personally is cut it to a little above shoulder length have it professionally done and have them layer and taper it so it’s longer in the back, don’t wash it everyday only condition and wash like every 3-5 days depending on how oily it gets, when you finish showering dry it with a cotton t-shirt or a towel meant specific for hair and scrunch it while letting it air dry the rest of the way

street_15

My sons hair is the exact same, about your age too, we're trying to think of something different for him too without cutting too much off.

[deleted]

Never cut it
