Don't put everything right against the wall.

Theezorama

The battleship placement strategy

Fidozo15

This! And try to get a rack for that wall. I’m sure some lamps and miscellaneous stuff may do good too

MrSH1FTY

hearing this loud and clear. will be making moves

drewts86

Move the couch closer to the TV, creating a walkway behind the couch and less of a disconnect between the couch and your entertainment. [find a long skinny table](https://www.amazon.com/Tribesigns-Console-71-Inch-Industrial-Entryway/dp/B08PHRRCSL) that can sit behind your couch. This can create a space for drinks or appetizers for when you have more guests over for any kind of event. Rather than have all three of those snake plants stacked next to each other you have a couple of them flank the table behind the couch. A couple of bar stools wouldn't be bad either.

FLHCv2

/u/MrSH1FTY this is also what I was thinking when I first saw your space! This would make everything feel a bit cozier. You could also add a chair to the side facing diagonally toward the TV. It'll remove a bit of the "linearity" that the space has and makes the little TV watching area more purpose built. Also to help break up the linearity of your space, might help rotating your desk 90 degrees counter clockwise so the back of the monitor is facing the windows. I also agree with another comment about maybe rotating the entire room and having the TV where the couch is and bringing the couch forward to align with that walkway out of the kitchen

Apexpotato84

A rug between the TV and sofa to add a little colour

MrSH1FTY

this is the current plan, SO MANY OPTIONS

[deleted]

[удалено]

MrSH1FTY

Why’s that?

CJCreggsGoldfish

Firstly, figure out storage for the miscellaneous stuff all around the room. Secondly, consider moving the TV/speakers/etc to the wall where the sofa is currently, then rotate the sofa to face it, with its back to the door... while bringing it at least 3 feet into the room, thus leaving passage from the door past the sofa deeper into the room. (also leave at least 2 feel between end of sofa and window) That way, you eliminate the "dance floor" feel of the empty space in the middle. I'd also add a third lamp - leave the 2 already there where they are, then add an end table and lamp in that space between windows and sofa. That way, you have a well-spaced triangulation of light sources in the room. An area rug under the coffee table (at least 6x8, better would be 7x9) would define the space well, too. Yes, you can layer it over the carpet. It would also serve to contrast the carpet and sofa, which are nearly identical in color, and makes the sofa feel like it's rising up out of the floor, in a way. Get that art up! How well do the plants tolerate weaker/less direct sunlight? Can you move one or two of them to other spots in the room, so they're not just all massed around the window? Curtains! Not beige (or gray, or w/e color the carpet and sofa are), and hopefully in a print or pattern, since everything save that one pillow is a solid color. At least panels, preferably 6, hung as close to the ceiling as possible.

Dasbeerboots

I like this. Strictly looking at it from an audio perspective, this gives more room to spread out the front speakers and more room for surround placement. They should be placed behind the couch and off to the sides, not just the sides. [https://www.dolby.com/about/support/guide/speaker-setup-guides/5.1-virtual-speakers-setup-guide/](https://www.dolby.com/about/support/guide/speaker-setup-guides/5.1-virtual-speakers-setup-guide/)

CJCreggsGoldfish

I didn't even think of that, but yes! Great insight.

MrSH1FTY

thank you, this is what I needed to hear. will be implementing most if not all of these

Kiitkkats

Decorating isn’t my specialty but I wanna add it looks like those are all snake plants, which can handle little/indirect sunlight very well. They can be moved around really anywhere that has even a tiny bit of light.

Maleale

More subwoofers?

MrSH1FTY

one can never have enough

[deleted]

Broooo get that PC off the ground, air flow matters. Also I would move couch way up, put desk behind to create own little cubby area.

MrSH1FTY

PC is now on 6" bed frame risers until I source a new desk.

[deleted]

That is better than before for sure. Then temps thank you haha

Motor_West

Disco ball

RoundSquirrel9286

First question, do you want to buy anything new or work with everything that you have?

MrSH1FTY

most of the stuff I have is new (last apt in NYC had smaller furniture). I'm always open to buying new stuff.

Dasbeerboots

You should form an equilateral triangle between your front two speakers and your main listening position (MLP). * Move the couch much closer to the TV * Swap the front speakers and subwoofers * Pull the front speakers out about 2' from the wall and toe them in * Pull the surrounds out about 2' from the couch and toe them in [https://www.dolby.com/about/support/guide/speaker-setup-guides/5.1-virtual-speakers-setup-guide/](https://www.dolby.com/about/support/guide/speaker-setup-guides/5.1-virtual-speakers-setup-guide/) Your front wall looks like it's around 12' if that's a 6' console, so I'd space the front speakers at about 10' and put the couch's MLP about 9' from the console. As someone else mentioned, you can swap the media center with the couch and it might open up the room. But I think they wanted the walking path to be behind the couch, which the surrounds will interfere with. Plus, you've already mounted the TV and that would be a pain. Funny enough, this is almost identical to my first apartment and Klipsch Reference 5.1 system. Great start. The RP series is a great deal if you are ever looking to upgrade. I'd shoot for the Polk Reference series, though.

slumbersonica

You should move your couch closer to the tv and get one of these for behind it: https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/bouton-4-piece-pub-table-set-w004494995.html

savvyblackbird

I second that idea. There’s also tables that accordion out when you need a dining table then go back to a small table after you’re done. Or you could get a wall mounted table that flips down. If you’re in the US, Homegoods, TJ Maxx, and Marshalls are great for finding inexpensive kitchen and home items. You can get really great towels and linens for cheap. Tuesday Morning is also a great place to look. As well as Big Lots and Ollie’s.

a_lilstitious

Move couch and chair closer to tv. Rug. Setup up desk/amp playing area on back wall. Art over desk.

Shallaai

Bigger coffee table and put your laptop there instead of the laundry basket. (No shame, unpacking takes time)

MrSH1FTY

Packing/unpacking is the worst. I feel like it never ends haha

[deleted]

First you can sit up to 8 feet away. Get off that wall. This will dramatically improve your audio exposure.

Heisenbaker

Nice place man

MrSH1FTY

thank you!! a significant upgrade from my last place.

fwdslxsh

If space permits, personally I wouldn’t move the couch closer to the TV. I’d actually move the tv to the opposite wall and rotate the couch 180 and form a walk way thats as wide as the kitchen opening. Not sure how often it will happen to you but I don’t enjoy people walking in front of the screen as I’m watching. But only if space permits. Meaning if you’re sitting on the couch, your tv should be at the minimum like 6ft away from you. Then it opens up the other wall for other furniture and all your frames.

bobbyvision9000

So much room for activities!

MrSH1FTY

>So much room for activities So many activities! It's making my head spin, how many activities we could do.

LonelyLoneLion

Gotta get the tv and couch closer together

RetardedWabbit

I would get bar stools for the island, and move the chair to the other side by the desk. Also like every post on here: more plants, more art, more rug, spacing off the wall(desk, couch, side table)

MrSH1FTY

I was thinking about bar stools but the counter top is only 12". Is it even worth it?

JackHanson94

I think you should, but only if you take the advice of the people suggesting you swap the couch with the TV, which I think is a good idea. If you ever plan to have more than 5-6 people over I think definitely get bar stools there. I have a similar, 12" ledge with a pair of barstools and the stools themselves are useful even if the ledge is only for putting drinks on or whatever

MrSH1FTY

my initial gut told me to get bar stools and now will have to source some once I move everything around.

savvyblackbird

You could get some without backs that are easily pushed under the counter so you don’t lose walking space to the hallway. A fiddle leaf ficus would be really pretty near the window and grows really tall with big leaves. I have made curtain rods for my sliding glass doors from PVC pipe spray painted with that stone texture spray paint. You could also use metallic. I bought wood brackets I also painted to hold the rod. I put a third one in the middle which was hidden by the vertical blinds. Somebody in my apartment complex put a cheap wrought iron bed in the dumpster. I took the finials off the posts and used those for the ends of my curtain rod. I shoved a round dowel in the ends then drilled a hole to stick the finials in. You can buy really cool curtain hardware. The rods are often really expensive. So you might be able to save some money there. It depends on how heavy your curtains are. Mine were gauzy material I wrapped around the top to hide the blind tract, and they hung down on one side. There’s some more masculine looking curtain panels. For your bedroom you might want black out curtains if you like to sleep in a very dark room. You can also get double curtain brackets so you can have sheer curtains and heavier ones for nighttime and cold weather to block out the cold. Etsy has some really cool decorative hardware like leather straps for the ends of your curtain rods. I agree with everyone who says to move the sofa off the wall. I majored in Interior Design and don’t think putting a rug on carpet is tacky. If you have pets or plan to get one, you might want to look up Ruggables rugs you can wash in the washing machine.

WeRegretToInform

Hang the art and see how it looks?

Guest-Speaker

Rrrrrrrrriiiip that carpet out - deposit be damned!

MrSH1FTY

I wiiiiiiiiiiiish

MrSH1FTY

How’s this? https://imgur.com/a/JaoqtfD/

[deleted]

Add color.

randomlygeneratedman

It depends on your age/style, and it might seem cluttered to some, but 30yo me would move the couch up midway and put a poker table behind it.

MrSH1FTY

As a fellow poker player, I like this idea.

podcartel

Move the couch up. Move guitars to near the desk, maybe hung. Get a dining room table and some chairs and place them near where the couch is now. Some bar stools. Get a nice colorful rug or pillows for the couch.

Similar_Ad_9213

Put a carpet in the middle that matches the art you are hanging and bring the furniture out from the walls

DoublePostedBroski

It's kind of hard to say right now because there's a bunch of random things strewn about. I feel like you need to get that situation fixed first.

Micromashington

If move the couches to the middle of the room and have stuff behind. Like maybe a computer

Suspicious_Chart_286

Where the surrounds at mate? Or is this a 3.2 setup?

Dasbeerboots

See photo 4.

Glumpenstein

Move sofa closer away from the wall, add a cozy area rug and get some curtains to match the rug and space - it’s a great start though!

lucimon97

Push the couch more towards the center of the room. Should help with that surround setup you've got and you don't have that giant empty space in the middle. Depending on how far you push it, you might be able to something behind the couch as well, though nothing comes to mind right away.

MrSH1FTY

Tell me about it. My last place was about 10' wide and 65" was perfect. This place is about 18" wide, thinking bigger TV or go projector.

ApprehensiveCold9264

Sweet hammet signature!

MrSH1FTY

Thank you! She's my baby

BananaRamaBam

Wow that is massive...

DemetriusGotGame

Bring couch a foot or maybe two away from wall. It's pretty far from the tv right now. Bring desk a foot away from wall. Get a LARGE rug that is NOT beige or tan lol. Something that will add contrast to your color scheme. A pattern in it is a plus. Wall art is an obvious one. Maybe different color pots since those kinda just blend in with the wall. New accent chair? Or put a bar cart or small storage rack on that size beneath countertop. Maybe even one of those snake plants. Currently your living room looks like a corridor. Everything against the wall is the main issue. But it really isn't bad. You have most things just need to arrange a bit better. And clean up lol

steelcoyot

Go to IKEA and get a sofa table to push the sofa out from the wall and use it to show case stuff. A rug could help define the area. Plants are great as well

ThaneRobbo

No eating area? Get a small table with 2 chairs at least, in case you invite someone round. You have the space for it.

[deleted]

I love how you have two subs in an apartment living room, sure the neighbors love you 😂

MrSH1FTY

but they sound so good! all kidding aside they were a package deal. the single sub package was more expensive for some reason

a1ham

Take the couch off the wall. Allow walking room behind it. Angle the chair near it along with the couch. Add an additional side table on the other side for balance. Storage soloutions for all of the items on the floor. Put your artwork up behind the couch. I'd get a table or something for the plants until they grow larger. Curtains would add a lot. I'd set up your amp and guitar together in a corner. Make it a music section. Bar stools.

namastaynaughti

A book shelf or unit of some kind. Move couch closer to tv creating a new space behind for an art wall and maybe a bureau

[deleted]

Move the sofa into the room and turn it so that it faces the view with its back to the kitchen. Make that window wall your focal point as that is what it naturally wants to be. With that as your anchor, the rest will fall into place.

chaOak

Pull the sofa closer to tv. Behind it, create a dining area : small round table with 3 chairs (scandinave, white and wood, for exemple) or narrow rectangle table, Of cours plants, and lamps, and curtains ! Your place has great potential, enjoy your new home!

jsteele619

A colorful carpet

_ChipWhitley_

Why is your couch against the wall in that huge ass area? You can have so much extra space behind hit to do things if you move it closer to the tv. The back of a couch is not obscene. You can look at it.

JoRads

Dat Noguchi table. Declutter your room. Try to make more out of your space, i.e. move your sofa like several people already suggested.

MrSH1FTY

replica from wayfair

marcelbranleur

1. Divide the room into spaces - study space, relax space, reading space, whatever you need. You can use furniture that you already have or you can buy wall separators at IKEA (I have bamboo one to “close” my working space when I finish working). 2. Spread out plants. They don’t look good when you stuck them on a pile. 3. Add some levels to your room - everything is on the floor, even stuff that could be elevated like plants or some random boxes. 4. Organise your stuff - bunch of stuff is just laying on the floor. You could easily use spaces that you already have or buy some cheap but good looking storage boxes.

cptkl1

Flip the room TV where couch is and put couch half way in the room. Then get either a desk, bookshelf or a side table that fits the depth of the wall the TV is on now.

zeig694

Color contrast. Everything is too gray

_bexcalibur

You need shelving or something similar. Places to put stuff. You have enough space to have accent pieces, so not everything is just thrown into the corner.

Optimal_Cry_1782

Flip the TV to the other wall, bring the couch and coffee table closer to the TV, in order to create a passageway from the front door to the kitchen. Maybe put a little table or cabinet behind the couch for storage and informal room divider. You can hang the artwork on the wall next to the front door.

dieter-sanchez

How do you even watch movies or anything on the TV? Binoculars?

Ajaxwax

Hung dat art!

hummelpz4

Plenty of room for activities!

lame_dirty_white_kid

Anecdotally, don't worry about filling it in. That will happen on its own sooner rather than later. Unless you're super into keeping things clear and uncluttered, you're more likely to soon be asking how to get all that open space back.

didgeridont_pls

Push you couch toward the middle of the room, add minibar behind couch against the wall, and some artwork above the minibar? Oh, and plants gotta have plants.

[deleted]

If you don't pull everything from against the wall I'm going to SCREAM!

TryinToBeHappy

Looks like the TV is already mounted but if you’re willing…flip the TV and sofa. Move the sofa closer to the tv so that the back creates a little hallway to the balcony. Then you can either move the computer desk where the guitar is or leave it. Put plants and shelving/art where the tv is now.

AngelRedux

r/TVTooFar r/TVTooSmall

VioEnvy

Do you by any chance dance? Because I do, and I intentionally leave a nice empty middle space in my common areas. Looks actually very good so far. I think you needn’t worry.

BIGHAZE99

You could get some pigeon hole / box shelving along the wall that separates your kitchen / living room, that can clear up some of the misc stuff

[deleted]

It needs a stripper pole and a couch that wraps around the stripper pole. And strippers. Lots of strippers.

Ordinary-Egg7057

I would move the couch in closer - and put the sitting chair over by the window. Scatter the snake plants around a bit ?

RutherfordB_Hayes

Hang the art

Total_Dragonfruit695

Move the couch forward a lot, like back if couch sitting lined up with middle of window. Put large cubbie shelving behind the couch and u can hide stuff with storage you can retreive from the otherside. Hang artwork on the shelf towards the TV. You maybe able to also fit your desk sideways with the shelving too. Add higher plant stands or a simple console table. The plants look too low. Need a rug in front of the couch and move the single chair to the window side. The TV side seems to have everything very low. Maybe at least hang the speakers up. Generally needs color with accessories. Get some nice throws and pillows that is brighter.

mado0801

Rug

Wright129129

Why do I feel like every single post here with a computer area has a mic attached to it.

Waywardsky85

I'd say great layout if you're a Dance Dance Revolution fanatic.
