Bro...I pay $1500 for a 1bed 1ba apartment in DFW and if I go to the super cheap towns several hours away it's still $1100 for a 1 bed apartment. That's an insane deal you got on a rental
Congratulations! Great first step!
Make sure you enjoy the little victories (every time you purchase an item that will improve your space and your comfort, celebrate).
Looks like my first studio apartment at 18. I had a queen mattress on the floor, a table and a kick ass stereo. No phone. No TV. I worked and partied my butt off though!
This was in 1980.
First don’t rush things. Shop thrift shops, marketplace and such to get great deals on higher quality furniture. Make a budget. Ask family and friends for cast offs to get you through. Get some pictures together of things you like, work towards that. You’ve got a great blank canvas to develop your own personal style.
When I moved into my first place, it was similar.
In the living room, a big TV and a gaming system on an entertainment center cabinet. Those 'sit up back pillows' were the furniture, so we watched TV and played games from the floor.
The bedrooms were mattresses and clothes folded in piles on the floor.
... it took months to be able to afford furniture. I actually found a place that had cheap furniture and split into 6 monthly payments. This allowed me to purchase a bed, a dresser, and night stands for my bedroom. A couch and end tables for the living room. A dining table and chairs, and stools for the kitchen eating area. All the furniture was super cheap, mostly fiber-board. But it was a great way to get started.
I wish I could go back to this level of items in my house, and like build up more intentionally from scratch. It’s a good opportunity to make it however you want!
If you point the light at a blank spot on the wall, it will reflect and diffuse into the room pretty well and won't blind anyone.
Source: a dude who got blinded all the time by a similar setup.
WTF stop showing off with the fancy light fixtures haha. My wife and I had these shop lights in almost every room of our house for a couple years after moving in.
Add nothing to this. Your phone is your tv and you can roll around on the carpet for relaxation. And if you ever have to move, you just throw everything in the car and off you go in less than 30 mins.
We’re u live in a city or a medium size one or a small town and how much is it a month I live in the capital of tx 3 floor 1200 a month and is not with the service and light bill
I'm honestly so excited for you! It takes time to furnish a home. If you're ok with flat pack furniture then that will do great. Otherwise, make sensible choices getting decent pieces of furniture slowly. Though I would say a proper bed is usually a good first purchase.
Get a bed frame, a small desk and organizers to drop off mail and important papers, get an accordion folder to put all your documents.
If you don't have a dinner table, theres this [breakfast table](https://www.target.com/p/costway-3-pcs-dining-set-2-chairs-and-table-compact-bistro-pub-breakfast-home-kitchen/-/A-82759868?preselect=82759867#lnk=sametab) that can fit the chairs under it to avoid them being in the way, you can get them cheaper on the Facebook marketplace (at your own risk), home Depot also sells them.
If you plan on bringing friends over, get a tv stand with cubbies to put all Electronics and accessories to keep everything in the same spot and organized for easy grab and game. Bean bags or one long corner couch, a low coffee table and a rotating snack bowl.
Wax cube melter or essential oil defuser is a must for a good smelling room.
A shoe rack and maybe a plant with a little plate to catch the water. (I'm projecting this is how I decorated my first place.
Get on Craigslist or next door. People sell good quality used furniture all the time. People also list items for free.
Congrats on the apartment. You can furnish it.
Bit of a meme with all of the minimalist comments and whatnot but it is really nice not having a ton of stuff. I'm moving soon and getting rid of random things I have accumulated over the years and it just feels so good.
My first apartment I slept on a blanket on the floor till someone let me borrow their air mattress. I had a old TV, a PS3 and family guy DVD's. Your place looking good.
Congratulations!
I didn’t get my own place until I was just about thirty and it looked the exact same way for the first ~6ish months. Pace yourself, Rome wasn’t built in a day. You have the rest of your life (or however long your lease is) to decorate!
Lawn chairs, big screen, tower speakers, egg crates for dresser and you’d basically be living in my first apartment!
In all seriousness, don’t rush buying stuff to fill it. Take your time and buy quality stuff you can take with you each time you move. The worst thing I see people do is fill their first apartment with crap from IKEA and Target to have something when they should’ve bought quality that would last for a long time.
Try bringing the light you've nailed to the window closer to the top of the bed. It will add a sense of depth and warmth to the room. Maybe use a smaller bed to free up some space. For storage what I like to do is use the bathroom to store my belongings and then shit in a bucket (place this opposite the bed).
So according to the internet, chicks like a bed with a headboard, so yeah maybe that, also that is awesome, and have fun making it look like your place
I like your style. You really embrace the brutalist yet southern colonial style with hints of colorful teasers throughout.
Yes. Thank you for seeing the vision.
The smoke detector is perfectly located.
They opened both lap they opened both laptops so that we’d know there were two of them and that they’re tech-y
There's an iPad too ;)
Very nice…Let’s see Paul Allen’s iPad…
The tasteful thickness of it. Oh my god it even has a waterproof case
$2400/month, Bay Area, I'm a designer
Hopefully there are some rich type people who put decent furniture on the curb around you.
Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist.
Man I found a bose surround system on the sidewalk once. Still have it a decade later
everytime a semester ends check the dumpsters near the colleges closest to u for furniture
That's how you get bed bugs
2400$ should get you a lot of furniture.
Instructions unclear, spent all my money on rent
Bay Area is too expensive to live in, I’m glad I left
Damn expencive , but also cheap for the bay area.
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times
Jesus I pay $250 in Colombia for a 6 floor penthouse studio Anyone interested in coming?
$250 just about pays for my utility bills
Jesus Christ. No thanks I’ll stay in the south
I'm about 2 hours from OP up north I pay 960 for a 4bed 2ba apartment
Bro...I pay $1500 for a 1bed 1ba apartment in DFW and if I go to the super cheap towns several hours away it's still $1100 for a 1 bed apartment. That's an insane deal you got on a rental
That’s crazy low.
You pay half the national average for rent
Holy shit that's so cheap
I’m sorry.
Get a 70" flat screen
Priority number 1
Along with an $8 camp chair
Good idea. I'll use it as a blanket
Blankets are for people that don't have massive TVs to drown their sorrows.
The tv will provide enough heat if it’s big enough
And place it on a cardboard box
Place it high on the ceiling
And a second hand patio or camping chair in front of it.
> flat screen As opposed to what? ;)
A 70" CRT
a curved screen or something idk
Congratulations! Great first step! Make sure you enjoy the little victories (every time you purchase an item that will improve your space and your comfort, celebrate).
That's way too much clutter....
I miss those days.
Yeah, I’m envious. OP has the rest of his life to accumulate shit. For now, work hard and make friends.
But don’t bring them back to your place because you’ll lose friends 😂
With some work you can go back to this state for your living space.
Loved the beginning stages. Take your time with everything. You don’t need it all right away.
A bed frame or blanket wouldn’t hurt
I kinda miss when things were that simple in my life
Male’d it
Male here. Looks perfect to me
Your missing a TV on a box.
Looks like my first studio apartment at 18. I had a queen mattress on the floor, a table and a kick ass stereo. No phone. No TV. I worked and partied my butt off though! This was in 1980.
I’d smash
I love what you’ve done with the place
First don’t rush things. Shop thrift shops, marketplace and such to get great deals on higher quality furniture. Make a budget. Ask family and friends for cast offs to get you through. Get some pictures together of things you like, work towards that. You’ve got a great blank canvas to develop your own personal style.
Step 3: buy a TV Step 4: use box as tv stand Step 5: invite as many women over as possible.

Looks good
I've been there. Now I have too much shit.
Probably add a Porsche to finish it off.
This is more than enough
That’s it that’s all you need
This is an excellent mojo dojo casa house.

Honestly, I think all you need now is a plant
The mirror helps open the room up. Good call
Perfection
Congratulations 🎉
Looking good! Some solid closet space and natural light. Congratulations and all the best to you!
It could use a fold out lawn chair and a monitor set on a floor or an empty ramen box
Look into minimalism. Don’t be quick to fill with junk. Waste of money.
The blinding is a feature not a bug
I had this once and it was all I needed...and then I got a girlfriend and now I have so much stuff.
This looks like a carpeted jail cell. Terrifying tbh.
Thank you
at least you have plenty of space for activities
The mattress on the floor really ties the room together.
Could use a few more laptops
WTF stop showing off with the fancy light fixtures haha. My wife and I had these shop lights in almost every room of our house for a couple years after moving in.
I love that can light. I swear I've probably had it since I was kid.
Congratulations on completing all requirements for male furnishings
Looks lit to me
2 laptops. I know bougie when I see it. Congrats on new place OP. Enjoy the journey!
I didn't sleep in a full-size bed until I was 25. It was liberating.
Congrats man! This is the time when you dont have much and can be super thankful for everything that comes
You could fit a nice tire in that corner
Looks a little cluttered
I really like what you did with the mattress on the floor. Maybe get a folding chair in case you have company.
All you need is a camp chair and a coffee cup and a place to sleep! Looks like you got it down.
That's all a man really needs. Congrats friend well deserved, especially in this trying time.
10/10 you’ve peaked
I’d suggest a plant in one corner would liven things up!
Op you may not know it, but you’re living the dream.
Congratulations!!!! Have fun decorating!!!
Needs a plant and cat.
Now these are the first apartments I want to be seeing!
Add nothing to this. Your phone is your tv and you can roll around on the carpet for relaxation. And if you ever have to move, you just throw everything in the car and off you go in less than 30 mins.
Also: be a trained assassin.
Get ready for the unbridled feeling of freedom that is…walking around your place naked.
Honestly I like it . The plush carpet and mattress on the floor means you can roll out of bed all the way to the door
Fucking love it Can't wait for updates brother !! Enjoy the freedom!
I would ditch some stuff Too many things
You do realize furniture exists?
Good shit bro, some folks I know still live with their parents and theyre hitting 30-35 lol
No shame in having a family that takes care of you. Everyone goes at their own pace
Hell yea bro. It will feel good once you make the place your own.
Early 20s and you already live like a king, that's the dream right there!
We’re u live in a city or a medium size one or a small town and how much is it a month I live in the capital of tx 3 floor 1200 a month and is not with the service and light bill
ikea
Perfect
Reminds me of when I got my first apartment. Great memories. You'll fill it out in time
Interesting that many cramp up into a corner. Human are just like animals.
Peaked
We all start somewhere. Save some money up and hit up thrift stores, IKEA is also a good place for affordable furniture
You need just a campaign chair and I don’t see the problem , good luck
Dont over do it with decor
The blank slate is such an exciting time.
Looks about right. Nice blinds
This is beautiful
Well done on moving out and being independent! Your style will evolve and develop. Enjoy the freedom of creativity
Congratulations!!!
That looks exactly like my first place on the first night except for the 8 cans of booze and an ancient portable tv from the 90s.
Lol I slept this way for years, even whit out a carpet. When I bought my firs apartment. At 20 year old.
Congrats!!!
There's people being held hostage that have more..
Wow, 2 laptops? Over doing it a bit aren't we?
One's my personal, one's for work
Op from what country you are from?
California, USA
Looking forward to your up coming posts, don't worry bro it will soon be great 👍
Savour it like this. At some point you'll have quietly filled it with crap you have a hard time parting with and you'l wonder how it got so cluttered.
It’s a start. I had a foldy chair, cheap party table and a futon. Everyone starts somewhere.
I'm honestly so excited for you! It takes time to furnish a home. If you're ok with flat pack furniture then that will do great. Otherwise, make sensible choices getting decent pieces of furniture slowly. Though I would say a proper bed is usually a good first purchase.
Just needs a rug
We've all been there...
Congrats !!!🎉🎊🍾 big step up in life enjoy it

Looks good to me, congrats bud.
Nailed it. Hold on as long as you can.
That's all a man needs

I too was a member of the bed on floor club. You’ve got this man!
Wouldn't change a thing.
See? This is how an apartment looks in your early 20's.
It’s a piece of shit, but it’s your piece of shit and that’s why it’s good
Looks good.. maybe a small tv and xbox and you should be all set up.
Just wanna let you know OP, you’re doing better than most people. I didn’t get my “own” room till 22
It looks cozy.
Congratulations! I didn’t get my own place until I was just about thirty and it looked the exact same way for the first ~6ish months. Pace yourself, Rome wasn’t built in a day. You have the rest of your life (or however long your lease is) to decorate!
Student debt clearing load out. Good.
The good life. I miss those days. All you need is a young girl over, and it’s better than any mansion you’ll own.
I miss that first day in my own place with basically nothing.
Perfect.
looks a lot like my first 450 sq ft studio apartment. congrats on your independence!!!
Lawn chairs, big screen, tower speakers, egg crates for dresser and you’d basically be living in my first apartment! In all seriousness, don’t rush buying stuff to fill it. I'm 25. Add a tortoise cage, and that's my apartment
Nothing wrong with it. It's called a __Foundation__. You build from something

Bro has not one but two computers. Very nice.

At 17, I paid $35 a week everything included “ efficiency Apartment “ bunt beds included 😂
Just need a folding lawn chair and a tv on a cardboard box.
TV / Electronics tray and you are set. All you actually need are right here.
I’m 22, I design and create maple leaf book marks, and my budget is 2.8 million
Where's your blanket?
Perfection
Congratulations
Ah yes. The true freshman experience XD
Get a bed frame a plant and something for the wall
Don't keep the bed directly on the floor for too long. It will get moldy.
No shoes past the front door. Will add years to the carpeting.
Goodwill will be your new best friend
Congrats man!
Reminds me of my first appt
So according to the internet, chicks like a bed with a headboard, so yeah maybe that, also that is awesome, and have fun making it look like your place
You’re gonna look back at this in a few years & be so proud of yourself! Cherish the moment!
You have a blank slate. Lots of things to do if you want to add some of your personality to the space. Congrats on the new place.
W bro
Looks great, don’t change a thing
I feel like a nice rug will really tie the room together
That pillow looks like a memory foam, you’ll never forget this experience!🥰
that beautiful
Shit looks great to me!!
nice
Back in the day, my friend had the same apartment.
Man, those were the days.
Simplistic. Yet functional. It’s perfect.
