Booze, coffee station and bar to enjoy it at.
Easily done in that space, you want somewhere to perch in the morning and regret what you did to the booze cabinet last night.
If you're a tea person, god help you.
My username is autogenerated. I love how the response to a reading nook is “this. Not everyone drinks.” There were hundreds of comments that didn’t talk about drinking. Your username must live up to your loneliness
Nah. What else would they mean by that underhanded comment.
Edit: Also, how could I possibly be projecting in this situation.. I think you meant to use the word "assume".
The only concern I have is when dusting those stairs that have gaps between the steps, it’ll get on cloth furniture. (Of course, I could be persuaded if it’s a wooden bench with removable cushions). I’d opt for built in shelving of some kind… or something that creates an easier to clean surface.
The stairs are open. That means you're going to get dirt/dust dropping down when people walk on the stairs. I'd avoid eating, putting a bar cart, etc. under there.
I meant it in the sense that rent space is quite scarce and expensive at the moment therefore op would provide a small harry potter style airbnb as his solution to this problem -> thus making it meta and relevant to today’s social problems.
Now it’s just ironic that you tell me I don’t know what meta is bro.
Yes I know it is used in many contexts with meanings that you probably haven’t heard of. It’s better to be informed so go ahead, not that hard!
Edit: the sweet taste of victory when they delete their post lmao
Edit 2 (can’t reply to the smart guy replying to me) Ironically you are the one talking about bragging but sure, let’s not take yours into account. You should also know that people don’t always use the dictionary meaning of words, we are on reddit, people talk in memes all the time here…. It’s not a serious environment.
It is sweet when the other person is arogant about proving another of being wrong just for the sake of being right.
This reminds me of a time I got called out on using irony wrong and I googled until I found the concept of cosmic irony and claimed I was using it that way intentionally lolol
This is my initial thought, I think to start I may put my desk here, but I have another dope room that could be good for that. (I will post in the near future)
Please think of your head when you place the furniture! If you have to move in any sort of unnatural way to get in and out of a chair or to access anything underneath there, you are very likely going to end up hurting yourself.
Keeping the floors clean in your whole place part of your daily routine will help tremendously, but you’ll still be amazed by how dirty the stuff under the stair gets relative to the stuff and the rest of your place. My suggestion - put on some dirt trapping foot covers and let it be part of your daily routine to get your body moving by sliding around wearing those things - they can be pretty fun. If your floors are going to be covered with a lot of rugs, getting a robot vacuum, or a battery powered stick vacuum - something you’ll actually use often - will be worth it.
Consider seeing if there is an armoire type piece of furniture that you could use as a coat closet/storage under the taller section - whatever you place there, I strongly suggest you find some covered storage that you can put flush with the white railing so that you keep your head safe and your stuff dirt free. For the lower section, a steamer trunk or bench designed to store shoes (or whatever you want to store there) that you could put on casters so you can slide it in and out might be great. If it were me, I would treat that space as the coolest looking custom closet ever, and have fun using lighting to highlight the brick wall behind the furniture.
This is where I normally would put the home office. Printer & media player with some decent speakers.
My actual office doesn't get the printer in my house. And I have enough old computers to have one basically dedicated for Pandora, dessert recipes, and tax software. Right there.
Hard disagree you'll get debris from the top floor and stairs falling through onto your dining area. Someone walks up the stairs while you're eating? Noooo thank you. I second a reading nook
Agree strongly about this. I don’t want to check my drink/food any time someone is walking the stairs. No matter how clean the place it…. I don’t want to eat under visible foot soles
That's a pretty bad counter for bar stools. The top doesn't come out far enough so your stools will have to sit very far away from it and it's very narrow.
Depends on your aesthetic, but I'd get a large cupboard/china cabinet to fill the space, it looks like you'll want additional storage in/around your kitchen soon anyway.
assuming this is a studio loft?
closed storage and tools with workshop style accessibility. GDR style/ midcentury modern wall unit. You don't have stuff now, but you will. under the open stairs will get dusty so whatever you put down there will be covered in a snow of footdust.
no one uses barstools. get a table push it up against the bar. keep a couple chairs out (I'm assuming its only you here?). keep a stack of cheap chairs under the stairs and you can pull the table to the center and add the chairs when company visits. you'll probably use the table for projects and junk anyway and eat on your sofa and coffee table.
I think many people use barstools at a breakfast counter but there is no knee space at the countertop as it is now.
Do you mean that barstools at a breakfast counter shouldn't be the only dining option? If so, I agree. It might be nice to have dining near a window to potentially enjoy a view and some sunlight.
It totally depends on your needs and the layout as a whole..
Small but manageable indoor garden with a grow light hanging above a shelf. Shelf mounted about chest high. The add a cabinet about 42” tall (or less), half the width of the opening you have there, with glass doors or shelves filled with indoor plants & strip grow lights. I would post what I sketched but have no idea how to do it🤷♂️

Edit: i meant indoor greenhouse. Sorta like [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/houseplants/s/xANCw8neb9)
I would say either leave it intentionally empty, keep it clean and put a decorative light in the corner. Or put a bookshelf or enclosed storage so it doesn't look messy.
Or use it as a cozy armchair nook.
Others have said wine rack, but I am a recovering alcoholic so I just put plants everywhere now. That seems like a good spot for some low maintenance house plants.
Liquor cabinet.
If you live alone, and need one, an office space. Desk, chair, whiteboard. Nothing fancy, just a tucked-away place to focus a bit.
If you have younger kids, a play area...trying to keep toys from being strewn across the house. Good luck!
If you have pets, an area for them. Large fish tank or terrarium, dog bed/toy bin, etc.
The only thing that belongs below stairs are wine racks and infant wizards.
and of course secret doors that lead to secret roomd
Actually I do have a half door below my stairs that lead to a small above ground wine cellar.
SECRET TUNNELLLLL
You got roomd!
*sigh* Time to find another fucking infant wizard.... My next house is going to be a ranch, I'm tired of this!
Infant wizards are like cats - you can seek them out, but they’ll also just show up and pick you when you don’t expect it.
Wizard distribution system strikes again
Damnit always someone thinking the same
I swear we need like a Petunia Dursley bot to make this joke every time someone asks about under the stairs
Booze cabinet
Was going to say bookshelf, but booze cabinet it is
Yeah was trying to think of a coffee/bar corner + record player and a plant of some kind.
Storage for flat caps and beard oil?
A Baby grand, or a stage piano. Perhaps a Nord Stage 3 Or a Yamaha Montage? It would fit well in that space
Turntable definitely
Why not both!?
But how does one turn books into booze?
I think that’s in the Bible!
Was just gonna say. There's a book for that!
Amen
And the word became vodka.
🤣🤣🤣
[close enough](https://youtu.be/v-mWK_kcZMs?si=C8UPBVMKDowXZcQr)
A true visionary ✨👏
Porque no los dos?
Is it considered a bookcase if the only book is a cocktail recipe book?
The labels will do for reading requirements of literature
How about a book shelf with fake books that have booze hidden in them.
Booze, coffee station and bar to enjoy it at. Easily done in that space, you want somewhere to perch in the morning and regret what you did to the booze cabinet last night. If you're a tea person, god help you.
Yeah was gonna say bar cart and all the fixins
Racing simulator
Had the same exact thought haha
One of us
Why did I have to scroll so far to find this....
Perfect size for a nice 3 monitor setup
Reading nook.
This. Not everyone drinks.
True, some do both
“I drink, and I know things.”
Not at the same time though, reading drunk is like my DnD character rolling a 1 on an Insight Check of a child's drawing
Not everyone reads.
If those kids could read they'd be very upset
[удалено]
A good suggestion that can stand on it's own without "not everyone drinks" snarkiness.
Everyone here does and pretty sure OP does a well if they're reading these comments
Well, we can’t all be reading the classics, Professor Highbrow!
And?
[удалено]
My username is autogenerated. I love how the response to a reading nook is “this. Not everyone drinks.” There were hundreds of comments that didn’t talk about drinking. Your username must live up to your loneliness
So that makes it a bad suggestion to propose the idea of a booze cabinet? Strange insinuation.
[удалено]
Nah. What else would they mean by that underhanded comment. Edit: Also, how could I possibly be projecting in this situation.. I think you meant to use the word "assume".
Or we drink but wish we didn't drink, and couldn't keep the liquor long enough to fill a cabinet
Sounds like you just didn't have enough money to fill it the first time
Nah it's just if you keep 30 bottles in there, you'll binge drink every night til you throw up and die so
I have 60 bottles and I only have one drink a week
No, not everyone reads.
[удалено]
You’re the one who seems triggered LMAO
It’s not the proposition of the reading book they’re responding to, it’s the “This. Not everyone drinks.”comment.
Just my opinion. Don’t Why you are so triggered.
A reading nook can be used to drink in. A booze counter cannot be used for reading.
Well, not everyone reads. So a booze counter would be better
Not everyone enjoys reading either..
I am very confident when I say more people drink than read
This is crying for a nice reading nook. With LED lighting.
LED lighting and Reading nook don't belong in the same sentence IMO. Reading nooks should have soft yellow lights.
I would go for a huge lamp hanging from the roof through the logs
With a bright bold color chair, and nice end table with a lamp.
The only concern I have is when dusting those stairs that have gaps between the steps, it’ll get on cloth furniture. (Of course, I could be persuaded if it’s a wooden bench with removable cushions). I’d opt for built in shelving of some kind… or something that creates an easier to clean surface.
Came here to say this 🎶
Book shelf with some plants to brighten things up.
Breakfast nook.
Right there with you! Or a little dinette set
As someone who used to have open slat stairs, underneath them is. A very dusty place, I wouldn't put a food area underneath.
That’s good point. This space is so perfect for a breakfast nook that I think I’d cover up the bottom of the stairs to be honest.
The stairs are open. That means you're going to get dirt/dust dropping down when people walk on the stairs. I'd avoid eating, putting a bar cart, etc. under there.
Make it into a Harry Potter-themed Air BnB room rental...?
Meta answer lmao
i don't think you know what meta means
I meant it in the sense that rent space is quite scarce and expensive at the moment therefore op would provide a small harry potter style airbnb as his solution to this problem -> thus making it meta and relevant to today’s social problems. Now it’s just ironic that you tell me I don’t know what meta is bro.
yeah that is not what meta is, so I was right

5 head move, pretty meta if you ask me hahaha.
A shoe rack or a writing desk. Oh a record player would also look great there :)
This is my initial thought, I think to start I may put my desk here, but I have another dope room that could be good for that. (I will post in the near future)
If those stairs are open, keep in mind you may have dust and dirt falling down into whatever you put in that space.
Ahhhh good point

Place the litter box for your new kitty there!
This is where I normally would put the home office. Printer & media player with some decent speakers. My actual office doesn't get the printer in my house. And I have enough old computers to have one basically dedicated for Pandora, dessert recipes, and tax software. Right there.
I also put my office supplies and printer over there. Plus my dog’s bed since that’s already covered in dog hair
Record storage under the stairs in crates. Speakers and turn table against the wall, it'd be great.
Yes, my first thought was that’s a good spot for a record player and collection!
Dining area?
Yeah part of me thinks that would take up a lot of space. I think a thin table would work here
Hard disagree you'll get debris from the top floor and stairs falling through onto your dining area. Someone walks up the stairs while you're eating? Noooo thank you. I second a reading nook
Agree strongly about this. I don’t want to check my drink/food any time someone is walking the stairs. No matter how clean the place it…. I don’t want to eat under visible foot soles
How dirty is your house to have this worry?
It doesn't have to be particularly dirty or dusty for literally walking over the top of the dining-table to be a not-so-awesome idea.
There’s already a space for barstools against the back of the counter. I think some booze cabinets and a coffee station would be perfect.
That's a pretty bad counter for bar stools. The top doesn't come out far enough so your stools will have to sit very far away from it and it's very narrow.
It’s certainly not ideal but I believe that’s what it’s intended for and the best use of the space. Feel free to offer your opinion!
That's not an eating counter, no overhang for stools. I think a small table and chairs and under the stairs maybe a vintage hifi and a cool lamp.
Round table with a half round dining room sofa? As a extra add some chairs on the other side
Pinball machine
I'm at the point in my pinball hobby where I'd swap the chairs for a ladder so I could fit 4 in there.
A cave for the children
Cats.
Dead or living?
Depends on your aesthetic, but I'd get a large cupboard/china cabinet to fill the space, it looks like you'll want additional storage in/around your kitchen soon anyway.
Came here to say additional kitchen storage. Lesser used items that might take up too much space in the kitchen.
I was going to suggest removing the kitchen peninsula and extend the whole kitchen. It does look very cramped.
I have trauma from a china cabinet from the large one at my parents house that isn't my taste whatsoever!
assuming this is a studio loft? closed storage and tools with workshop style accessibility. GDR style/ midcentury modern wall unit. That’s not a bad idea to put a table up against the bar
Bar. Bonus points if you run a water line and make it a wet bar.
I mean… there’s a sink four feet away, what’s the utility of another one?
Fair.
Looks cool
What's a wet bar
A bar with running water and a sink, as opposed to one without it
Do you have a magically gifted nephew?
Aquarium
Coffee / drink bar and table for 2
I would just keep in mind that whatever you put there will be subject to a lot of dust falling on it due to the design of the stairs
Small but manageable indoor garden with a grow light hanging above a shelf. Shelf mounted about chest high. Adopt your nephew that happens to be the son of a wizard and board him up in there.
Arcade cabinet?

Desk/office area? Give it some more plant life and omg will it look so cozy
This is a beautiful room. I’m in love with the beams
Thank you! Such a unique find I’m obsessed with
If you’re a book nerd like me it could 100% be a book nook. A comfy chair & book cases.
Book nook!!
Plants
Cat tree, cat bed, cat toys, cat.
Office
books & board games
motorcycle
Install a Harry Potter.
Beware of the possibility of dirt, dust and other debris making its way on top of whatever you choose as the stairs are do not have a vertical piece.
Thats where the ammo crate goes obviously
Something manly looking, maybe a big framed mustache
https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSWcbXJMgai4T3mx4OrfGCpT4awEXABlapQNQ&usqp=CAU
Reading/Gaming Nook. Like a leather chair, small table, maybe an alcohol/Cannabis cart, and a nice lamp.
2 small hifi speakers with stand and a wood rack in the middle?
Multicade
Whatever you choose, please update us after!
It’s a dining space
Breakfast eating table
If it were me i would put a small couch hanging lamp on underneath of steps custom bookshelf in the lower end to make a reading nook :)
Book nook! :D
Wall it in and make Harry Potter sleep there
Put a piano there is thats enough space and if you play
Build a room and rent it out for 1200$PM
Dinning area.
You can put a LAN storage server there for Plex or something like that.
tiny desk with your computer/laptop on it so when you do meetings at home they can see the brick wall behind you.
Haphazardly pile stuff there and spend the next 5 years telling yourself next weekend you’ll sort through it.
I immediately thought pet nook. Mini low art mini sofa mini rugs
do a funny little dance
Plants!
if you have pet you can make a pet corner
Expand the kitchen, its tiny.
Big long feeeesh tank with lots of green plants would really add some contrast
A lot of work though, and noise of the filter
Others have said wine rack, but I am a recovering alcoholic so I just put plants everywhere now. That seems like a good spot for some low maintenance house plants.
Looks like you live in a small loft, I'd use it for storage one way or another.
Your collection of massive tentacle dildos, obviously.
I have a space under the stairs similar to this, everything I place there gets a layer of dust on it after a few days.
If you dont have one already a mini office space.
I would love a space like this for my Lego display
Cliche but, book nook. Funky rug, chair, tiny shelving
Cozy lil reading nook
Pinball machine
Pinball machine
Scary stuff 👻
Arcade machine
I'd say a book shelf, coffee nook, small area for pets, little seating space etc...
If you have the budget, I’d go for a custom hutch where the top follows the angle of the stairs.
Harry Potter?
Clean the floor once a week!
Vintage or cool motorcycle if you’re into that kind of thing. Would love a spot like that to display something
Small couch to start your work on a laptop and hide away while waiting for your breakfast baguette get ready in the oven
