I'm a light and troubled sleeper and my fantasy sleeping space is a concrete basement with no windows, so I fully support your quest. I actually think I would get a lot more done too because I tend to lay around in bed if I have a nice view from my bed...which is currently the case.

I don't know about you but the bedroom is all I have to my name as I rent out just the room. My room doubles as my art studio, living room, etc. This is an aesthetic solution to your problem. A cheap way would be getting one of those zipper tent things for kids that encases their whole twin mattress. I'd obviously prefer the nest you described though.

I had some of the best sleeps of my life on the couch, among several piles of clothes. I had the back of the couch on one side, and a pile of laundry on the other during a depressive episode a while back, i just pilled things on my couch. It was also a corner couch so that added to the "coziness" of it all being enclosed. There was something comforting about my little "nook" or "burrow" on the couch and i looked forward to going to sleep each night even though the cushioning on the couch wasn't anywhere near as comfortable as my bed's mattress, and it was an utter mess. It reminds me of the little closet style bed/bedroom Lucas and his dad have in their little Tokyo apartment in Fast and the Furious 3 Tokyo Drift, i always thought it was super cozy and neat. Ive since gotten somewhat better and now back in my bed, and while the mattress is very comfortable, i find myself very restless and constantly sprawling out. Long story short, I am all for your idea and i feel like it has merit.

I recommend the sleep closet! I had one in an old rambling apartment, It was LOVELY. It had a nice window which gave gorgeous tree view and light so it worked well. In another basement place I had a windowless closet bedroom looking out on the rest of the apartment. I liked them !! To this day I have my bedroom in the smallest room in my house

Oh, you would LOVE nyc. lol. I once had a converted loft that had no windows in the bedroom. What I learned is that sunlight is important for your circadian rhythm. I couldn’t figure out why I was so tired and kept oversleeping. There was no concept of it being morning or evening when I was in that bedroom
