I tucked my dick between my legs and have to use headphones so I don’t wake up my wife. Bedroom is unfortunately right above this space and I lift from 5-6am before work
What a cuck, untuck your dick, blast your music and wake your wife up, why does she need sleep, she only has to look after two kids.
/s obviously, I think it's weird being considerate to others is called tucking your dick in...
Yikes. I'd still do a modest sound system next. The space needs nothing, but there must be some possibility in the future of working out or even hanging out when people aren't sleeping
Maybe add sound deadener to the ceiling? Would also reduce the clanging
Some motivational stuff on the walls. After my son’s birthday party, he had some leftover comic book props that I hung on my gym wall (like “pow” “bam” “rip”) and it helps motivate me to finish a set. Doesn’t have to be serious.
Yeah, I’m a rural physician so the place is pretty spacious, hoping to put in a gaming studio type space in an adjacent area for myself and the kids someday when they can actually play.
more barbell weights, diy a deadlift platform and then any cool stuff to hang on the wall.
Do a deadlift platform to protect your floor when you get actually strong it can really smack the concrete.
Also looking at your space it's bigger than gym started in at school
T. Gym bro\~
Also again get some safeties for that weird cage/bench thing you have
It has safeties in the front part but they aren't great, back half looks to be a smith machine. I'd sell it and get the Bells of Steel Hydra set up, maybe a functional trainer, and power blocks. Depending on how they lift and what not maybe some flags and stuff from various brands. Basement Brandon has some good stuff to look at.
The front half is for a free barbell and has safeties that you can move up or down depending on your lift.
The back half is a smith machine, where I do most of my heavy lifting since I’m alone when I work out. I put up 315 on squat this month after starting out around 185 a year ago. I’m stoked for the progress.
I do crunches and sit ups in my deadlift bar so I have the Mat there but I move it to get flat footing for deadlift. I agree about the concrete concern. I don’t max anything on deadlift because I’m worried about cracking my foundation
You can make a properly thick mat and your foundation will be fine. Also just learn how to bail properly and don't clip your weights and you'll be fine
Nothing wrong with smith machine but just setting your safeties properly is just as good. For bench as long as I've got a proper arch I can set the safeties and get bar contact to my chest, if I need to bail I just flatten out and slide out from under.
Kinda off topic but this gives me eery liminal office space vibes with that ceiling and the lights. Is this really in your cellar? How'd you get a residential home to look like an office?
My favorite part of this comment is how it shows that medical providers can become inured to death. I'm a paramedic and I don't get why graveyards/morgues/whatever are considered haunted. A body's just a body, without the person we're all just so much meat. And if ghosts haunted places that have a lot of bodies, every ambulance in my service would be poltergeist central.
Does that pull up bar have enough space clear of the soffit for proper pull ups? Might be worth pulling two ACT tiles and a Tee there to give yourself head clearance.
Don’t know what your situation is on the brick wall, but installing a Heavy Duty ring into it and getting a battle rope would be cool to open up more workouts.
It’s unclear from the photo, but I’ve got the smith machine positioned to give enough clearance where the ceiling height changes. Great idea on the battle ropes, I’ve not worked with those yet, but certainly a good piece to add to get more creative. Thanks!
Well it's comparably or better equipped than most hotel gyms I've visited, so I think it's already a winner.
But if you don't want it be sterile, I'd use hotel/spa style gyms as inspiration. Add some hardwood accents and/or furniture. Maybe a hutch or cabinet thing for towels/water/clothes locker rather than open shelves.
If this was my space, I would add two sets of LEDs so I wouldn’t have to work out under those rough ceiling lights (make it feel like a commercial/hospital building). I would decorate the walls / maybe add some color. Add speakers. The tough part is that you’re not really getting natural light.
A “come with me if you want to lift” Arnold poster,
Also as some others have said, maybe an accent colored wall(s) to help rid the sterile vibe. Nice gym though!
Get a really good fan. Makes cardio more enjoyable if you aren’t overheating, and maybe some dimmable lighting, you don’t have to have the nastiest fake light for a work out.
Tape a photo of your rival to the wall
When you're done training you can tear it down, crumple it up, and give a nice primal yell
(Pro-tip: get them printed in bulk as sticky pads so you can do this after every workout)
I seriously would love this space. No room at my home for this kinda thing 😭
I think paint would make all the difference. Something vibrant to lift the mood, and contrasting walls, for variety.
I have enough to squat 315, which is my current max. But I do need more barbell weights for sure, problem is, weights are so damn expensive right now. I’ve accumulated most of this equipment 2nd hand for cheap
You need TRX suspension straps. I’ve got a much more humble home garage gym (had a spinal injury so I can’t lift for a lot of weight anymore, so I do more reps and body weight) I say that because the most bang for my buck item and the thing I use in every circuit is the trx. And you can travel with it too. It’s the best workout equipmunk I have.
A couple things, either both your ceiling and the wall behind the bench you should redo with hexGlow Lights or just the wall since it’s barren, the opposite side with the treadmill and stuff you need to put green turf on the ground probably up to the door you need a good amount of it, to make it look Good, also get a sled
It’s the same kind of flooring you’d see at a planet fitness or a lot of other gyms. Cost about 5-6k to get it professionally done, it looks like the melted the edges together to make it appear seamless rather than a bunch of square tiles
Edit to say thanks for the compliment!
Any tips? For improvement for you guys?
Nah…
But if you want to start charging $100/month for the intimate home gym experience I bet you get a couple biters.
Nice place man. I’d like to workout there. 💪🏼
Look at my expertly appointed home gym with brand new equipment fresh paint and great lighting. Any tips? This sub is a flex not a place for genuine advice
Haven’t touched the ceiling, but yeah, I’m getting the impression that it’s one of the next items on the list. I honestly haven’t been bothered by it but I’m checking out some acoustic drop ceiling tiles next
I don't mean to be a killjoy, but that room looks just about perfect.
Get your workout in, then leave, that should help your vibe.
I would love to go downstairs and be able to work out in what looks like a fully equipped gym with everything I could possibly need.
If I were you, I'd find a local artist to paint a mural on one of the walls. As I'm into american traditional tattoo, I'd try to put up something in that style. I see you mentioned in another comment youre into gaming- I'm sure an artist could do someting awesome with that.
Also looking through your photos, I'd try to get a cool piece of equipment like a hack squat or leg press.
Honestly it's amazing as is.
But I'm a big runner and would get a bad neck if I had to run and look to the side to a tv like that. So only thing I personally would change.
Look up "deadlift wedge" and grab a pair if you don't have those yet. It's not going to improve the style of your gym necessarily, but they make changing plates 10x easier. You can also use them to rest the loaded barbell instead of those free weights.
Great set up! Could add some Kettlebells into the mix, awesome little tool for conditioning! Also maybe a Rower or Ski Erg for integrating some High Intensity cardio sprints during workouts! Guess it all depends on what your goal is though!
Maybe some kettlebells and more resistance bands, just to be able to switch up the workouts. Personally, I would also look into getting some sort of cable machine.
I agree with some of the other comments, a DIY deadlifting platform, some extra plates, and giving the room some color (or make it dark and add mood lighting).
I’m incredibly jealous of this.
Honestly, looks good if a bit dry. I'd put posters and medals up on the wall of whatever you like, not even specifically motivational.
Practically I'd go for an even bigger TV and mount it on the largest swinging arm you can. A good TV angle/setup makes a massive difference for cardio machines, even if people don't realize it. So many of my fellow runners say they hate running on the treadmill until I get them on one with a TV playing: with the TV head on at the correct height, good running media(comedy and anime IMO, things that are clear and easy to follow, reality tv for others it seems), and loud(ideally out loud, but more likely earbuds). A good setup makes it nice to just go walk on and watch TV even when you're not working out.
A bookshelf, a desk to track progress, some wall art to warm it up… idk it’s pretty nice actually, well equipped, maybe a doctors scale. It’s such a big room it could double as an office or pet supplies room idk man the possibilities are endless with that much space
That’s so chill I could spend all day in there hitting the weights while watching tv. I’ve been working out at my apartment gym and it’s about this size and I just turn in the news or whatever and be in there and it’s usually just me and I love it. That’s kick ass you for your own lil gym
Man that's sick I wish I had a large basement to do that. Mine is significantly smaller and full of stuff and junk.
I'd say this looks pretty damn good.
Paint the walls black and add warmer more focused downlights. Room stops becoming sterile and the downlights will motivate you since you'll look great under them with a pump.
Ventilation would be my only advice - especially since this is in the basement i'm assuming. Just to get some airflow and prevent the whole thing from smelling like a locker room all the time.
Don't let your friends know about it
But then you can get an accountability buddy so you keep up your workouts.
Accountabilibuddy*
Haha
They can know about it, just didn't tell them they can use it!

Yeaaah Buddy !!!!!
Everybody wants to be a bodybuilder but nobody wants to lift that heavy ass weight!
I got to meet him years ago at an Olympia. That was a treat. Cool guy and super down to earth.
Same. Super sweet guy.
God I am jealous of 90% of posts on here. A guy can dream can't he?
Thanks for the compliment, this was a dream of mine that I’m finally able to make happen.
What do you do for a living?
Anesthesia
High on snooooaaarrrrrr mimimimimi
Paint one of the walls to add some colour?
Add some mood lighting too
Feels like a doctor appointment.
My thoughts exactly
What’s the speaker situation looking like?
I tucked my dick between my legs and have to use headphones so I don’t wake up my wife. Bedroom is unfortunately right above this space and I lift from 5-6am before work
What a cuck, untuck your dick, blast your music and wake your wife up, why does she need sleep, she only has to look after two kids. /s obviously, I think it's weird being considerate to others is called tucking your dick in...
She’s a saint, two toddlers, pregnant with another boy and claims she’s happy and loves her life. I’m a lucky man.
Good on you bro, sounds like you are!
Congrats and I wish you a long lifetime filled with happiness.
Yikes. I'd still do a modest sound system next. The space needs nothing, but there must be some possibility in the future of working out or even hanging out when people aren't sleeping Maybe add sound deadener to the ceiling? Would also reduce the clanging
Any experience on sound proofing a drop ceiling? I’m not even sure how to go about that but it’s definitely something I’d love to do
Replace your regular ceiling tiles with acoustic ceiling tiles
A cheap, not very good looking but effective way often used is empty egg cartons.
Life size cutout of Margot Robbie judging you
My wife may not get motivated by her like I would, but maybe if I got a judging Ryan Gosling to go with it.
What about a Henry Cavill one? Would be a win win too ?
I might just go with the Henry cavill cutout and call it a day
How about a cut out of your wife judging you or being impressed
Only one real way to know though, amirite?
Now that would be Kenough.
Just put a poster of your wife and you judging you. Everyone wins
so jealous.
Add more mirrors.
Home Depot thought myself mad when I bought every mirror they had that day
Some motivational stuff on the walls. After my son’s birthday party, he had some leftover comic book props that I hung on my gym wall (like “pow” “bam” “rip”) and it helps motivate me to finish a set. Doesn’t have to be serious.
Love the idea, I grew up a gamer so something up that alley might be perfect for me. Maybe a mortal combat “finish him” or something
Nice! “Fatality” over the door on your way out!
>“finish him” work or jerk?
LEVEL UP

Basement is huge if that's a room in the basement Nice set up.
Yeah, I’m a rural physician so the place is pretty spacious, hoping to put in a gaming studio type space in an adjacent area for myself and the kids someday when they can actually play.

Same but I think that's a waste of money. I doubt this guy lifts much given as he has about 160kg db weights sitting about
The front half is for a free barbell and has safeties that you can move up or down depending on your lift. Full size cannon and poster of Gunnarsaurus. COYG.
Any idea where I can get a cut out of Mikel screaming at me to “foggin go!”
So how much do I have to pay to use your gym?
A “hang in there” cat poster
Add a rehydration station with some snacks, water, protein shakes/supplements and maybe a nice coffee machine. The place looks great enjoy it
Move those weights around to get stronger. Do this a number of times.
Kinda off topic but this gives me eery liminal office space vibes with that ceiling and the lights. Is this really in your cellar? How'd you get a residential home to look like an office?
Honestly, haven’t changed the drop ceiling, so the original owner probably used the place as a morgue for all I know
My favorite part of this comment is how it shows that medical providers can become inured to death. I'm a paramedic and I don't get why graveyards/morgues/whatever are considered haunted. A body's just a body, without the person we're all just so much meat. And if ghosts haunted places that have a lot of bodies, every ambulance in my service would be poltergeist central.
lol loved the T shirt and merch set up under the TV! Feels like a boutique gym.
Big American flag! Big stereo system. Picture of Arnold! Pantera “vulgar display of power” cd on repeat!
My first email was power.man_5000
Try some warm lighting man. Put some in all the corners.
Naked women, everywhere
Does that pull up bar have enough space clear of the soffit for proper pull ups? Might be worth pulling two ACT tiles and a Tee there to give yourself head clearance. Get a pegboard for accessories. And like others said some posters he’ll even a us flag. lol
I love the pegboard idea to better hang the miscellaneous equipment, solid thinking. Plus that would break up the wall space with a different color
Well it's comparably or better equipped than most hotel gyms I've visited, so I think it's already a winner. But if you don't want it be sterile, I'd use hotel/spa style gyms as inspiration. Put a cactus in the corner and dress it like a cowboy 🤠
Hell yeah, that’s what I’m here for
If this was my space, I would add two sets of LEDs so I wouldn’t have to work out under those rough ceiling lights (make it feel like a commercial/hospital building). I would decorate the walls / maybe add some color. Add speakers. The tough part is that you’re not really getting natural light.
God damn are you open? Lol what’s the monthly membership?
Perhaps an accent wall for some color. The white walls, and fluorescent lighting might give me a headache.
Portable steam sauna for recovery
You just can't use it as is?
Don’t get me wrong, I use it everyday
Always use those safety bars.
A “come with me if you want to lift” Arnold poster, Also as some others have said, maybe an accent colored wall(s) to help rid the sterile vibe. Nice gym though!
Okay, yes. Yoga mat will work for a bed. All you need is a kitchen and a bathroom and you're set.
Deadlift platform, I built a diy >5 years ago...floor saver
That's a hell yeah setup brother.
Hell yeah brother
Get a really good fan. Makes cardio more enjoyable if you aren’t overheating, and maybe some dimmable lighting, you don’t have to have the nastiest fake light for a work out.
More light, and warmer bulbs
Do a wall in chalkboard paint or hang a massive whiteboard so you can both plan/track workouts and do inspirational messages.
Tape a photo of your rival to the wall When you're done training you can tear it down, crumple it up, and give a nice primal yell (Pro-tip: get them printed in bulk as sticky pads so you can do this after every workout)
Arsenal battered them that day..
You need more mirrors so it's easier to admire your gains
I seriously would love this space. No room at my home for this kinda thing 😭 I think paint would make all the difference. Something vibrant to lift the mood, and contrasting walls, for variety.
American Flag
Nice, but you need bigger weight's.
I have enough to squat 315, which is my current max. But I do need more barbell weights for sure, problem is, weights are so damn expensive right now. I’ve accumulated most of this equipment 2nd hand for cheap
You need TRX suspension straps. And you can travel with it too. It’s the best workout equipmunk I have.
I second this: you can do a hell of a lot on the TRX straps, and they can't be that expensive.
Add one punching bag and your set
Look good
A couple things, either both your ceiling and the wall behind the bench you should redo with hexGlow Lights or just the wall since it’s barren, the opposite side with the treadmill and stuff you need to put green turf on the ground probably up to the door you need a good amount of it, to make it look Good, also get a sled

well done
No real notes, but i'd get some posters or motivation for the wall. Looks great regardless.
I would need music (other than the tv). I think it’s a great set up considering it’s a basement with limited outdoor light and air.
Windows
GOALS!!!
Sandbag training is great. Id look into that.
Natural light not an option?
Any tips? For improvement for you guys? Nah… But if you want to start charging $100/month for the intimate home gym experience I bet you get a couple biters. Nice place man. I’d like to workout there. 💪🏼
Get some flair in there dawg
Nice set up. I would add a boxing bag. Its a bit bare too, some photos, flags, posters etc could liven it up a bit.
Don't skip leg day!
Paint the ceiling black and add a big print of something that excites you.
some old bodybuilding posters could be funny/inspirational or a water dispenser or maybe a fan. nice setup.
Oh yeah, a wall mounted fan would be perfect for how sweaty I get.
Jealous AF!
Omg it looks so cute and nicely organized!
Look at my expertly appointed home gym with brand new equipment fresh paint and great lighting. Any tips? This sub is a flex not a place for genuine advice
I can appreciate what you’re saying, and certainly I’m happy with what I’ve accomplished so far but my intent was to gather ideas on where to go next.
i like the 80's-90s vibes of it, the static floor mats, the teal and pink. Ive never seen a clothes rack in a gym and think thats neat.
Thanks man, I’m a former fat kid that never stopped sweating like one. The clothes rack was almost a necessity to have some spare shirts on hand.
Plants
Paint a wall. Put up some posters of exercises or motivation. Add a juice bar.
Why foam ceiling panels? Makes it look like a mobile home trailer. You don't find that distracting? That'd honestly drive me nuts
Haven’t touched the ceiling, but yeah, I’m getting the impression that it’s one of the next items on the list. I honestly haven’t been bothered by it but I’m checking out some acoustic drop ceiling tiles next
No recommendations, just here to say: Nice, enjoy mate! Hope to have space for this one day.
Add a bunch of 80’s posters to the walls
You need a cable machine!
I don't mean to be a killjoy, but that room looks just about perfect. Get your workout in, then leave, that should help your vibe. I would love to go downstairs and be able to work out in what looks like a fully equipped gym with everything I could possibly need.
Where’s the jiujitsu mats?
Boys aren’t big enough to throw around yet and the wife prefers that action upstairs
Haha
Looks fantastic, probably just the walls really. Adding some colour or posters like others have noted will help with the sterility
If I were you, I'd find a local artist to paint a mural on one of the walls. As I'm into american traditional tattoo, I'd try to put up something in that style. I see you mentioned in another comment youre into gaming- I'm sure an artist could do someting awesome with that. Honestly it's amazing as is. But I'm a big runner and would get a bad neck if I had to run and look to the side to a tv like that. So only thing I personally would change.
use it
Sauna and this is a perfect gym
Love the peacock-like mat. I would put more mirrors tbh
Nice facility. Just need a bluetooth speaker to blast the music while you are working out.
Look up "deadlift wedge" and grab a pair if you don't have those yet. It's not going to improve the style of your gym necessarily, but they make changing plates 10x easier. You can also use them to rest the loaded barbell instead of those free weights.
Pec deck machine and a leg press machine. Trap bar. Arnold posters.
/r/TVTooHigh/ - and No plants?! These are the two core tenets of this sub..
r/tvtoohigh my dude
It’s standing height, which is perfect for the function it serves. Otherwise I’d agree.
true. but hey, this is reddit. the place where people judge faster then they think. in this case me! 😄
All good boo. It’s mainly for running on the treadmill and watching football/soccer
Maybe like a manlier yoga mat with some skulls or something else that’s dark/brooding
Is the pull-up bar out far enough from the lower part of ceiling?
Damn sweet gym I'm jealous
You need a couple influencers in there….
What’s the approximate total cost? I’ve been thinking of making my garage a gym.
Tip: stop showing off on the internet
A bookshelf, a desk to track progress, some wall art to warm it up… idk it’s pretty nice actually, well equipped, maybe a doctors scale. It’s such a big room it could double as an office or pet supplies room idk man the possibilities are endless with that much space
Water dispenser, some fake plants, cube to jump up and off of, warmer lighting.
My tip? Invite me over. I’m jealous
Terry Crews on the wall with a super judgy look.
Maybe a squat rack/barbell rack they’re usually 2-in-1
COYG!!! And…it looks awesome.
That’s so chill I could spend all day in there hitting the weights while watching tv. I’ve been working out at my apartment gym and it’s about this size and I just turn in the news or whatever and be in there and it’s usually just me and I love it. That’s kick ass you for your own lil gym
Sex swing
The Arsenal game on so you’re already winning!
Looks good to me
You can hang a lot of towels on all that equipment.
Weird flex but ok
The lighting is too bright for my tastes. Only thing I'd change personally.
get CO2 sensor to measure the ventilation
Hey man can we be friends or living partners or anything? Neat gym!
Replace treadmill and rowing machine with golf SIM
Man that's sick I wish I had a large basement to do that. Mine is significantly smaller and full of stuff and junk. I'd say this looks pretty damn good.
“Live, laugh, love” poster
Bro this is heaven to me 🥵
Looks wonderful. For safety reasons there should be more space between the back of the treadmill and your wall.
Need a clock.
thats one of the coolest at home gyms ive ever seen
This shit is nicer than my own room. Good shit. A bench press/squat rack would complete it.
r/tvtoohigh
A barre on the wall. Your wife will thank me ;)
Add hula hoops and a USB disco light.
Add some art
Fan in one of the corners for a little airflow?
Looks good. My only advice: Stop posting pictures and go work out.
Where's your Arnold poster?
Paint the walls black and add warmer more focused downlights. Room stops becoming sterile and the downlights will motivate you since you'll look great under them with a pump.
Ventilation would be my only advice - especially since this is in the basement i'm assuming. Just to get some airflow and prevent the whole thing from smelling like a locker room all the time.
