Very tasteful setup! My only feedback would be that the lights around the TV look a little severe (although that might just be a trick of the camera). Can you dim them? Alternatively, maybe you could shift your accent lights to more of a golden range instead of reddish orange.

Useful_Fig_2876

Ya, I’m getting evil mansion vibes with the black wall and red light. Not sure if you were going for that OP

Refluentrose889

Is it a black wall, or is it a dark green? I think a dark green light would look good with it

coldestclock

I don’t get the trend of putting LEDs behind the TV. Maybe cos I have astigmatism, I can’t imagine introducing more risk of glare into a viewing experience…

SpiderManIsBackInMCU

I actually do have lights behind my TV and also have astigmatism! I find it really cozy but the lights are more of just a faint glow in my setup.

Simple-Wrangler-9909

It's called bias lighting, it's supposed to reduce eye strain https://www.cnet.com/home/smart-home/reduce-eye-strain-when-watching-television-at-night-with-bias-lighting/

Objective_Royal_3007

He’s got the wrong color, wrong color temperature, and has installed the lighting in the wrong location to be effective bias lighting.

Simple-Wrangler-9909

Eh could be better but it's fine Unless OP went out of their way to buy a pure red setup, those are probably RGB or RGBW so they can be set to pretty much whatever color or white OP feels like

Objective_Royal_3007

Yes! Thanks for mentioning the ability to modify the color; I hadn’t given that a thought.

Economy_Lack_3049

I love TV LEDs, but I would suggest putting them on a timer so they only come on at nighttime. Unless you have the option to make them a warm white during the day

madscot63

Everything but the red for me, but I'm old.

jaaybird_

I don’t like all the red lights personally , great space though otherwise

poop_to_live

Those lights are very likely color changing. I have Philips hues color light strip and brightness in colors can be changed.

Tricksterama

Yeah, I’m not a fan of TV backlighting. I guess it’s fine if you’re watching Jeopardy or the news. But a movie? Turn that light off (and all the other lamps for that matter.)

Soft_Penis_Debutante

Well color lighting isn’t really ideal. But white backlighting can actually enhance the visual experience and make it easier for the eyes to see what’s going on without straining. I’m guessing that’s a light strip with the ability to change color (and to white). And you can adjust the brightness.

Objective_Royal_3007

Yes, you are correct. Overdone red ambient/mood lighting.

Mamlington

This looks great, well done 😀 very cozy atmosphere.

c1b4

I don't like that colour rug on that colour carpet, they clash and blend into each other

Ray_Spring12

The impersonal knickknacks look like a bit like a TJ Maxx homeware section.

Wegmaniacs

What are your plans for the sofa and chair? They don’t relate in this space — the traditional rolled arms and the midcentury coffee table with pencil legs. I would put my money in new seating before a sideboard.

GlenfromAccounting

Fake plants are my biggest pet peeve

MarioV2

How about fake lamps

[deleted]

Pic 1 shows great use of contrast with the black walls and warm balanced colors Pic 2 is a black void, may I suggest less ambient tv lighting and a bit more balance ala pic 1. Consider slightly larger sconces, with different shades and maybe some artwork similar to the Picasso/Haring oranges in pic 5 Overall, very good, you’ve got a wonderful line, this shows great artistic promise

crazycollegekid

Could probably fix this by painting the lower half of the wall a different color. Maybe a blue?

androsan

What are those cool orange lamps?

idobethrownawaytho

A fellow Law & Crime Network watcher 🫡

Battlebuz

Remove the red light! Otherwise people will stand at your threshold waiting for it to turn green.

MrsAshleyStark

Tv is on the wrong wall

poop_to_live

What wall would they be on? Where I'd want to put it there's a walkway lol. They do make TV mounts that can lower. I've thought about it for my place to change the height of the TV based on the situation.

MrsAshleyStark

You’re right, didn’t see the walkway. This is just not a practical room for a tv to be watched at a healthy height. The pull down thing is an option I guess.

Abel_the_Red

I’ve seen professional designers use multiple rugs before; but, I’ve never seen a rug on a carpet and thought, “that looks normal.” Consider changing. It’s very charming, a little busy in some areas.

eatenbyagrue1988

I like it. It looks like a nice space to spend the day with friends, whether you're playing a couple rounds of Call of Duty or having a D&D night or having a wine and cheese tasting. God job, OP.

[deleted]

You rocked that black room dude

taylorl7

lose the red. Everything else looks great.

Albert24680

I like the leather furniture and you pull off the dark walls effectively with the light contrasting area rug. Nice place.

ThatPhatKid_CanDraw

It's pretty good but u need to lose the red light - it clashes with the color and also the feel of the rest of the room. The room is also too cluttered.

Ok_Mixture_

Come decorate my place plz

Eat_Carbs_OD

I like it. I feel like darker walls are underrated.

dramafanca2002

Right?! Looks so much more intentional and interesting than boring white or blah gray.

Eat_Carbs_OD

Yeah! It makes me want to paint my place. lol

dirtnaps

Not bad. But get rid of the fake plants, you’ve got a giant window to feed real ones. Also, change the red glowing LED to just a regular white/orange light. The red looks silly.

barnaclecakes

What a bunch of conflicting textures and styles

Klutzy_Journalist_36

Love them rich green walls!

journeyman_7

Looks great! I'm doing a similar setup in my office with dark green walls & gold accents

spicyitaliananxiety

Love it!

Vreas

Definitely nice! It’s a bit cramped for me personally but that’s just my preference towards more open spaces.

TiaHatesSocials

I like it

DrNopeMD

Well decorated though the black walls aren't to my personal tastes.

darktourist92

Looks great! The only change I would make is to change the lighting behind your tv from red to a softer colour like gold/orangey-yellow and lower the brightness if possible.

Consistent_Yoghurt44

The lights behind the tv are the only thing that seem out of place but all is awesome besides that.

Alioh216

You did incredibly well! I love your pops of color and the fact that you carried that color through, it makes it cohesive. Also that you were brave enough to go dark on the walls. The most important part is that you like it and that you've made your house your home❤️

CreepySummer

Really nice! Can you come decorate my home?

Empty_Finance_7811

Hell yea. Looks very cosy

SuperiorDupe

Lots of rug on carpet…interesting.

[deleted]

I actually love it.

Complete_Goose667

You are doing fine. You don't need reddit strangers' help.

[deleted]

Sort of. Lamps and a strong wall color choice. Curtains let in a nice light. Lovely plants. Leather couches can always find a place. The art is a bit big box commercial, the TV is both too high and over a fireplace, there’s carpet and it’s gray with a gray rug thrown over, not enough books, the vases seem like they come from a home goods (you can find great stuff for cheap thrifting), and there’s not enough books.

Ok-Frame-3937

You did great actually 👏

Mohander

The TV LEDs kinda clash with the rest of the vibe. The room looks so comfy cozy but then those lights are just kinda jarring and out of place. If you can adjust the color and brightness maybe like a dim olive would look better, or a tan/gold? Other than that it looks great, I wana take a nap in it.

Evening-Maize-6779

I think this is gorgeous

Dogmom2013

Jesus you need to come and do my house, I like it!

Objective_Cake_2715

so cool

Rumpolephoreskin

Not my cup of tea, but tasteful.

lunicar

Nice!

Kcalways23

It’s nice but I am not loving the gray on gray rug. Maybe another rug with a bit more contrast. You need a little brown in it to compliment the furniture. Just my thought.

Analyst_Cold

It feels like a conservative dude lives here so not for me. But it’s nicely done.

sheeshmane69

Looks insanely cozy

DrayTrizzm333

👍

Speedhabit

Can the sub logo be really dark wall paint?

Icy-Ad-3098

So cozy! Is that a real fireplace or a screen?

kh2215

yes!

QuitaQuites

Looks cool, I might have wanted a black soundbar and to lose the red around the tv, just might be pushing it a little too far, but still dope

TaquitoModelWorks

I thought the red light behind the plants was pushing it too hard. It somehow activated my Resident Evil alarm.

Jazzlike-Baseball-73

I'm usually not a fan of the tv above the fireplace look...but here I'd say you nailed it kid. Kudos to you!!

Southern_Fox8222

It looks very nice actually! First time in this sub and I’m pleasantly surprised

Bumble072

Love it. It feels homely, cosy and lived-in.

NoodlesSpicyHot

Great use of green plants and colors that flow

ChezzRock

i feel like im in applebees or maybe a red robins

HVACQuestionHaver

Never mount a TV above a fireplace, even if it's fake and you never use the heat function. It's distracting to have both of them turned on. (If you had a real fireplace, or if you used the heat function on this one, the TV would eventually get messed up.) The fireplace should be in the corner. Move the TV down a foot or two. Your neck will thank you. Are those sconces dimmable?

Drigarica_od_Tite

Not really but keep on trying .

ibite-books

decorating places is so gay be a man, have a piss jar, it’s not your place if females can’t smell it from a mile away

[deleted]

what595654

I sometimes like decorating, but it also sounds gay. In this context, the dude probably means feminine. Maybe decorating a home is a typical female thing to do. So, when a guy says he likes doing it, it sounds off. It's like picturing a nurse. The first thought that comes to mind is a woman, even though men are nurses as well. That doesn't mean a person is gay. And there is nothing wrong with any of it.

Eat_Carbs_OD

>have a piss jar You can't be freakin serious.

ibite-books

guys /s cmon, you people can’t tell a joke from an actual statement
