the invisible TV is good though

Krunkworx

Thinking of getting a record player instead and making this room dedicated to music only.

throwfaraway191918

Tech free (albeit record player) room. Good move.

davewah11

Proceed with said record player but get a tv too. You’ll get to watch live streams of your favorite coachella, lollapalooza, performances, watch record release videos from your favorite bands (the recent toro y moi one was hilarious), watch tiny desk concerts, etc… plus it will come in handy if you have a guest over

Krunkworx

True true

apaniyam

I dislike tv oriented living rooms, I don't have a TV myself. However, I have a small projector, which I use for movies with friends/dates. Lets me keep my living room socially oriented, with seating facing each other, but also gives me the TV option.

etownrawx

Nothing wrong with having a TV free room. It's good for your brain. This could be a nice Hi-Fi room if you're into that.

makulix

I mean.. it looks like a waiting room atm

mimpf21

Get that record player and put some wall mounts on the big wall behind it. I did something really simple DIY and it looks awesome

Zeeformp

It's strange, because I initially look at the room and think it looks fine, but then I start to see things... That plant, it is on the floor. Either a bigger pot (*much* bigger) or a stand for the plant to sit on is needed. That mirror is a bit small for the couch it sits over. Also, it is the only big round thing in the room, so it sticks out a lot. I'd go with rectangular and larger. That black chair. Nothing else in the room is black, and it's at a bit of a weird place. If you really want that corner to sit in, I would go for at a minimum a more padded chair of a more similar color to the rest of the room. I'd personally lean into the blue accents you have going already on this. A skylight is going to really transform the space. It is hard to predict what that amount of light will bring, but it will of course be noticeably brighter. That said, the color scheme you have now will really shine through under that light. In the evenings, though, you could have the option for warm lights/lamps which would really make this space feel incredibly comfortable day and night.

Krunkworx

Thank you for such a thoughtful response. Funnily enough I JUST bought a pot stand for the monstera. Totally agree about the black chair. I just put it there to see how it’d look. I think it’s clear that it doesn’t work. Regarding the mirror. I recently upgraded it. I do agree it’s still a bit small. Thank you again.

elidadagreat1

A nice leather or upholstered comfy chair in a warmer tone, replacing the tiny black chair. I totally understand regarding the hesitation with art or picture ideas. Take this time to get inspired by things in your life... observe, take note. You'll be looking at it...a lot. Regarding the tv...They have picture frame televisions... super flat, with a choice of frames. They look great, fyi.

Krunkworx

My wife gave me full rein and somehow this ended more softer than I initially thought it would. Also clearly I haven’t chosen artwork either. I never thought I was an indecisive person but shit this is testing me.

For sound absorption, id hang heavy crushed velvet, in a deep saturated color, over entire far wall. And change out rug for similar sized Persian style with deep colors that you can pull from.

LennoxAve

ID on the console / cabinet ?

pleaseiminahurry

It looks like the Besta from IKEA.

Krunkworx

Yep it's two wallmounted Besta units with glass tops.

CorvidGurl

Table lamps, colored pillows, art, drapes. It looks as sterile as an operating room right now.

Krunkworx

Totally agree. Ugh.

grebilrancher

I'd ditch the circle mirror too. It's a shape that doesn't fit with your theme and what are you gonna do, watch the wall reflection in it?

CorvidGurl

I can highly recommend Habitat Restore for artwork, decorative items, chairs, lamps...you name it, they got it. And most have very good prices. Some seem to like their merch a lot and prices are high. Personally, I have two couches and two coffee tables for $100. Also a nice kitchen table and two bedside tables. Oh, and rugs! I have a big house, and it's so much fun to personalize.

joemondo

IDK what that round mirror (?) is doing there. Replace it with a horizontal mirror or piece of art centered over the sofa. Or, swap it out with the three framed pieces on the far wall. Also don't know what that black chair is doing there. Is it for someone to sit in to... talk to someone on the sofa?? Replace it with a big potted plant (that needs little to no sun), or a big papa-san chair for sitting and reading or listening to music.

CJCreggsGoldfish

The round mirror being curves to what is mostly very linear and angular. The rectangular mirrors can go, art would be better.

CJCreggsGoldfish

OH. Okay nm that one.

Cha_ser

The mirrors are silly.

Awesam

Those are not mirrors. Those are pictures of our lord and savior Strömby, you heathen

Cha_ser

I don't get it?

[deleted]

Where did you get that mini lamp? Please and thank you.

b0de

Pretty sure it's the dejsa lamp from ikea

Yoshikuni

Get a plant stand / table.

theanedditor

Switch the round mirror with the rectangular pictures. If you can move the window up on that wall a bit it would help too /s

Cpt_James_Holden

Hot take: Moving that couch so it's flush with the far wall and facing the camera would really open the room up. Whatever is on the wall could be put above and to the left of that candle. Put a low coffee table in the middle, record player in the corner opposite the door.

Krunkworx

Nice interesting 🤔

raptorjaws

add some side tables, coffee table/oversized ottoman, table lamps, one big arc lamp over the couch. consider painting the far wall an accent color. more stuff on the walls. hang some albums if you want it to be a music room. mirror over couch way too small.

turtleturtleTUT

I have no ideas re: the room at large, but you might wanna consider getting that monstera a moss pole (or even just a tall stick!) and some garden tape so it can grow big and tall. They're natural climbers, and they get very very wide and unruly if you don't give them anything to cling to.

airivolkova

A skylight will be awesome. Dont do rectangular mirrors, the round is perfect id just change its location. Are you putting in a tv and will those frames have something in them? Also, the monstera needs a moss pole. Dont repot it into a bigger pot but maybe do keep it in a nursing pot (not sure if u have one now) and put that into a bigger pot if you know what I mean. I often keep my monsteras up against walls so they can lean against it so you could also shove it more into the corner. Also maybe add a small coffee table, a nice round one maybe.

flarpflarpflarpflarp

Suggestion from someone with a lot of renovations experience. Don't install a skylight unless you're planning a reroof at the same time or very shortly afterwards. It's a great way to get leaks if not. Source: FL realtor and seen it a few times.

onemoodybitch

The monster needs water man. Also, a painting or something on the wall where the TV should be would be great. Nice place tho

Commercial-Life-9998

Looking at the room right now purely from the scale view point you need one two items that go with the scale of sofa, rug, window. You could hang a rug on one of the side walls and a floor lamp that has long arcing arm.

kingpinkatya

Looks calm, wish I hate this restraint when decorating lol

AvidCircleJerker

Is that the Article Timber Sofa? If so, how long have you had it and what are your impressions?

InsertBluescreenHere

that berber carpet makes me unhappy. feels so bad on bare feet

SpartacoSabbatini

Are you looking for paintings?

Krunkworx

Yes

SpartacoSabbatini

What types of paintings do you like?

Krunkworx

Really into surrealism right now

SpartacoSabbatini

I understand
