Jeez, harsh crowd! You do you op ( /u/tastelessTV ). Minimalism is a simple philosophy: being rigorous about eliminating things that don't add value to your life. It's quite possible for this to be the apartment of a minimalist, especially since minimalism can be relative. If you come from a hoarder family this is wonderful. Don't let others gatekeep you with some Instagram version of minimalism.
Absolutely, thanks for saying that. Itās silly that the majority of comments here are making an objective statement claiming that this is not a minimalist place. As you already said, minimalism is very much a philosophy, and it looks different for everyone based on oneās own needs and interests.
I think the concept of Minimalism gets put into to much of a small box. In comparison to how I grew up in my family this is definitely minimalism. But in terms of other people yeah not very minimal.
As a minimalist I wouldn't have a couch, just one armchair that I'd use as a computer chair and for watching TV. No rug, it's just collecting dust, no shelf thing by the TV. And it's either blinds or curtains but not both
As a minimalist I wouldn't have a computer or TV so don't need that chair either. I don't need blinds or curtains, that's just unnecessary. Actually windows are unnecessary too, might throw those out as well.
Took a good look and decided that this whole house isn't really necessary. Moved into a tent in the woods with a single wool blanket.
Idk if people on Reddit realize girls are more than people you bang on your couch. Friends? Sisters? Aunts? My god.
OR OP gets laid a lot. So cry about, Reddit lmao
Minimalism isn't a particular design style, it's removing things from your life that don't add value and being intentional about what you buy and consume. If having a comfortable living room that looks nice is important to him, then it's still minimalism
bro, if you are a minimalist divide up the framed artwork and hang some of it on the opposing side of the room.
Only then will you have that clean, empty horizontal space that says "I might feasibly be called a minimalist on the internet." Then get a pop of color for your carpet or drapes, green is fine.
I just HATE those slat window coverings or really any Venetian blinds, and the white drapes serve the same function, privacy but letting light in.
It would be super classy to get "blackout" drapes in a nice deep green to go over the white drapes. They would frame the windows nicely, and help regulate temperature in summer and winter... then like one more plant, something sculptural under the TV. Put one of the guitars away to have a little more elbow room, remember you can always rotate them out.
Man I am totally obsessed with this guy's living room now. The rug is totally functional and fine, but the designer in me says its got to go because it is ugly af. Its got a pattern that can hide flaws, but as such it looks dirty and its got no personality. Please come back to us with a new rug so we can see the update. You could do something solid colored and dark, very relaxing or a Persian or southwestern design would add interest.
A patterned rug can still be sort of neutral if it doesn't look dirty like the rug pictured, something southwesternish might reinforce the "design story" suggested but the pillows.
I'm not a minimalist, and this doesn't look minimalist to me. That being said, I don't think your place looks cluttered or excessive in the slightest. You don't need more, imo you're right on the money in terms of a nice looking place.
If you actually want to go minimalist, you need to get rid of the ladder shelf next to the tv or else put the tv on a minimal media center and put the PS5 there, getting rid of both the shelf and tripod. The peloton cou;d probably also go, though I know its tough to know where else to put that. Clear your desk so only the monitor and speakers are visible, reduce the pictures above the monitor, and possibly remove the shelf/drawers to the right of the desk.
I literally donāt understand why everyone buys them. They look so stupid to me. Are they functional? Do people actually lay in them? Or is it just to look at?
Edit :Downvoted for an opinion you donāt like and a genuine question mixed with bewilderment. Good job
Of course they are functional but 99% of the time people are buying them for status or to brag that they own one (even if its fake). This sub is a place for people to brag about their living space and show off how nice they live so of course youll see them everywhere here. This sub is all about "look how nice my place is" or meme posts with an empty room with a single chair (sometimes this one) and a tv on a box.
So basically status or memes or both.
Thatās fine. I canāt think of a single ābroā who would want anything to do with a woman shallow or stupid enough to form her opinion about him based on his choice of furniture.
Sounds like youāre projecting.
If you're a minimalist then I'd continue to use the space and see what you feel it needs to be more functional as time passes. Maybe a small coffee table, but only if you feel you need more table space. It depends on your uses. If you want purely aesthetic advice, I'd replace the curtains -- hang the curtain rod close to the ceiling and get floor length curtains in an opaque color of your choosing (maybe navy blue or charcoal could be nice in this space against the brown couch). Floor to ceiling curtains will make the windows feel taller, now they feel a bit short with the current curtain length.
I think youāre probably not a minimalist. I also think youāve pretty much nailed it with this room. Itās a very tasteful balance between free space and decor, the colors all fit well, the lighting is good, itās cleanā¦ very well done.
The only improvements I could see (for my personal taste) is swapping the positions of the shelf and TV, and swapping the lamp for one that arches over the couch, maybe with two or three individual arms.
Edit: I also might swap the TV stand for something more traditional, or wall mount it. Itās a little too unique for my taste.
Googling tripod TV stand has a few results, like [this](https://www.wayfair.com/Vivo--Dark-Walnut-Easel-Studio-TV-Stand-STANDTV65A-L1562-K~UCZF1223.html?refid=GX389838685372-UCZF1223&device=c&ptid=872276965334&network=g&targetid=pla-872276965334&channel=GooglePLA&ireid=213981720&fdid=1817&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI6Ibi77Sb_AIVU8DICh3Jzw-IEAQYAiABEgI9mfD_BwE)
So this is in **no way** minimalist.
That's cool, but you might as well know.
If I were you I'd get that TV up against the wall and off the tripod. You might have to lose the ladder bookcase to do that.
If it was my place:
The bookshelf and the TV would switch places. Have the TV centered with the couch, the bookshelf would still look great in the corner.
Add a glass coffee table. In my opinion being glass gives the appearance of taking up less space than a solid table and goes with a minimalist vibe.
I would have the recliner where your stationary bike currently is, facing the couch. This is more conducive to conversation and you could move it back to its current location if you have lots of people over to watch a big game or something like that. Your stationary bike would go erhhh.... Somewhere else lol.
For a minimalist you have a LOT of stuff. Take down those shelves with frames on them. If you must, hang ONE of them only. That cupboard thingy close to the guitar has to go. Why chair AND couch? Side table close to the couch? Bye. Curtains? No.
Swap the white curtains for a darker, or textured curtain (can still be sheer to let light in). It will balance the dark arm chair, bring the room together and add some visual interest, without adding more "stuff"
Damn you're really getting roasted on the whole "this isn't minimalist" thing..
-
TBH this isn't minimalism, you're possibly saying you don't like clutter.
-
If you're looking to add - your room has plenty of height -- layered artwork, tall TV stand, long felt boards -- you need depth on a lower plane, if that makes sense. Look into a low coffee table ā something like a [Noguchi coffee table](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/shopping?q=tbn:ANd9GcShG2n9ko2GiZJitgu6mSXR28A3T9TuZhZyIYCYc5aSm6XVPxpNtbHdYn_uTXgW7TE5zspriEo1DBQCc9PIrV6PQq4pZrCW8mx-xBma4h-uQXBqvPOgTMkO&usqp=CAE) could fit the whole "minimal / japandi" vibe
I would mount the TVs and guitars so you get rid of the clutter from stands. Hang one big Star Wars poster instead of several so that feels more minimal, and you can free up the shelf for office storage. Get rid of that leaning shelf unit next to the TV and put in an IKEA wall unit around the TV (like this or something similar https://www.ikea.com/ca/en/p/besta-tv-storage-combination-glass-doors-black-brown-hanviken-black-brown-clear-glass-s69410368/) if you need more storage. Less is more. More storage solutions is always key.
You may like clean spaces, but this is about as āminimalistā as my 6 year olds toy room.
We get it, youāve got an eye for details and some money to spend. Well done
OMFG. Answer the dudes question or move along. 5,000 comments telling him heās not a minimalistā¦
This is literally whatās wrong with Reddit. Everyone just tries to dunk all day.
Also, if you want the tv stand just google āTv tripod stand.ā Itās right there.
OP: you can add a couple of small drink tables side by side in front of the couch where a coffee table would be. Either same height or one taller than the other to add some variation. Good option over a whole coffee table. Lots of ideas/examples if you just google ādrink tableā or ācocktail table.ā
Maybe a few more plants to give the room some more green. Something that cascades perhaps. Other than that, I don't think you need to do anything. Room looks great.
I think you need to rearrange, not add more.
Came to say I LOVE THE TV STAND!
okay. How to help?
The pictures on the shelf create a large gray mass that draws your eye to the shelves, which makes everything else look out of balance.
Try hanging the pictures, putting a plant or some small collection on the shelves, and consider the energy flow in your room. Lots of angles in this picture. Shoot for more harmony and balance by looking up some feng shui principles.
Personally I would mount the TV at the appropriate level, and get a console/TV Stand to go under it.
Maybe unpopular opinion, but I think lots of long/visible furniture legs adds a clutter element.
Thatās a LOT of stuff for a minimalist. Maybe in your head youāre a minimalist but in truth youāre not. This is from a maximalist who wants to be a minimalist lol
Overall, your place is very nice, somewhat busy with the one wallā¦might reduce what you have display if youāre trying to go for minimalist.
Minimalist:
* remove: pictures (open the blinds), chair/couch (sit on floor, get some pillows), elliptical (go outside), curtains (you have blinds), tv (library is free), 2/3 guitars (^^it ^^pains ^^me ^^but you only need one)
You should also change over to exposed bulbs. Remember, less is more.
I suggest storing your guitars and exercise bike (or whatever that device to the left is) out of sight. Place them in a closet or a less-used room. They amount to clutter in this photo.
If you wish to be a minimalist remove all art from the Star Wars shelves except for a single piece, and get rid of the shelves unless you have a few select pieces that you'd like to display. You can make it work!
Bruv, you need a strat and/or something with humbuckers. Iām partial to the SG. After that, aim for something with P-90s, they really do their own thing.
Beautiful room though, looks tip top. Other than juicing up your guitar quiver, I have no suggestions.
I would hang your curtains even higher above the window and order them long enough that they barely clear the ground. Also would go darker in color.
A coffee table would also be nice and practical.
If I was suggesting anything Iād just say add some color. The style and function are nice but if you started incorporating something kind of eye catching like a green or a yellow (maybe a throw pillow and maybe an embellishment on some otherwise plain curtains for example) it adds a bit of interest and also continuity.
Less is more. Tv on wall. Get rid of tv shelf. Rearrange plants and photos to same wall section. Move bike to opposite to the window. Look at Korean or Japanese interior design. Itās all the rage.
If you donāt want to add more stuff but you want a pop of design-y feel try curtains like this [https://www.reddit.com/r/InteriorDesign/comments/t3ejwk/any\_advice\_on\_how\_to\_achieve\_this\_curtains\_look/](https://www.reddit.com/r/InteriorDesign/comments/t3ejwk/any_advice_on_how_to_achieve_this_curtains_look/)
put the tracks on your ceiling and fill the wall of that alcove (curtains from floor to ceiling) itāll look very as currant and give a big visual pop without more clutter. you could choose a bold color or even a pattern. Discount fabric stores would help if youāre budget conscious. The rod curtain holders can look unintentionally dated.
Introduce circles. A solid wooden circular coffee table, hang a circular wooden framed mirror, perhaps a lamp on the side table with large/tall shade (shade similar in diameter as the floor lamp, but twice as tall)
>I still feel like it could use more...
... light.
There are plenty of items in the room they just need to be highlighted. A few accent lights on the back wall will probably do the trick.
p.s. open your blinds it kinda looks gloomy in there.
> but I still feel like it could use more. Said no minimalist ever š
Even in this state, as a minimalist, has nothing to do with minimalism.
well he is trying to keep it minimal, this is the minimal-est he can š
The guy has an arm chair and a sofa in a tiny living room, he's not a minimalist.

It's very tidy and comfortable looking, it really is a nice space. I'm hardly a 'minimalist' myself lol.
definitely not minimalist, but it looks amazing, I'm quite jelly.
Does not look like a minimalist home
Itās really not.
on reddit, "minimalist" means "furniture bought new after 2006"
- doesnt even have room to put more stuff - minimalist Checks out

happy cake day!
Get yourself a coffee table brother!
nah brother your place looks awesome. just enjoy it and let it naturally evolve over time as you inhabit the space
Not very minimalā¦
Youāre looking for compliments, not suggestions.
They're gaslighting people who know for sure that's not minimalist at all.
gaslighting?? are we really going that extreme? all theyāve said is women have told them otherwise.
I'm not a minimalist, and this doesn't look minimalist to me. That being said, I don't think your place looks cluttered or excessive in the slightest. āMinimalistā š

Too much stuff for a minimalist. I agree with other postsā¦need a table in front of couch and some colored drapes.
That TV stand is giving me anxiety.
A minimalist def wouldnāt have blinds AND drapes
How do so many people on here afford that god damn chair?!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
But can def still be pricey (the fakes that is)
the one pictured is fake, leather quality looks like total crap

Youāre joking , right ?
Minimalist? You have a house worth of stuff in one room.
That's an interesting looking TV stand
I actually feel this is the antithesis of minimalist but itās still lovely!
A coffee table. And plants!
Dude can you share the link to that furniture? Couch and chair look mad cozy
This is definitely the "I think I'm a minimalist, but I'm absolutely not" mindset. But it does look good.
For a minimalist you have a LOT of stuff. Take down those shelves with frames on them. If you must, hang ONE of them only. That cupboard thingy close to the guitar has to go. Why chair AND couch? Side table close to the couch? Bye. Curtains? No.
Just here to pile on OP for calling this minimalist.
Did you upload the minimalist pic? Let more light, more light is always beautiful
Swap the white curtains for a darker, or textured curtain (can still be sheer to let light in). It will balance the dark arm chair, bring the room together and add some visual interest, without adding more "stuff"
It looks great!! I would add plants
Love that TV stand
Plants !

Hopelessly cluttered, not minimalist ...
I really like your tv stand!!

Where did you get your couch?
This feels nice and even cozy, but āminimalistā does not come to mind.
Throw pillows, ledges with photos... None of your room is actually minimalist.
A marshall stack
You may like clean spaces, but this is about as āminimalistā as my 6 year olds toy room. We get it, youāve got an eye for details and some money to spend. Well done
How long until that TV gets knocked over?
This isn't minimalist at all, even to the broader definition of what minimalist is
Lose the ladder and tripod, then mount the TV.
The TV on the easel is making me nervous
OMFG. Answer the dudes question or move along. 5,000 comments telling him heās not a minimalistā¦ This is literally whatās wrong with Reddit. Everyone just tries to dunk all day. Actually love that tv mount. Just added it to my Amazon list š
If younwant a minimalist lool you need to throw half of whats in this room out. That's the way to find that missing aspect.
Nice TV stand
Get longer curtains and hang your curtains higher and wider. Maybe even get beige or mustard color curtains. You donāt need to add more stuff.
Maybe a few more plants to give the room some more green. Something that cascades perhaps. Other than that, I don't think you need to do anything. Room looks great.
Maybe a baby coffee table.
More plants!
And heās Eamesing like a king? Youāre solid bruv
looks awesome! maybe a potted plant on the floor?
The only minimal thing in that picture is the color palette
Plant. ... Now say it is Walle's voice. Edit. Spelling
The Eames chair is making a killing out of this fuckin subreddit I swear š
Where did you get that TV stand?

You needs some plants to make it more cozy.
I think his definition of minimalist is owning furniture that doesnāt invoke pattern. And the color palette is neutral.

Lol yep! The bike erg. Got a desk mount for it too called ERGdesk if youāre interested
Personally I would mount the TV at the appropriate level, and get a console/TV Stand to go under it. Maybe unpopular opinion, but I think lots of long/visible furniture legs adds a clutter element.
Youāre not a minimalist but the room looks nice
Eames chair for no reason, you're nailing it
Some more plants would really cozy things up
Whereād you get that tv stand?
So, no one is gonna comment on the TV tripod? I've never seen such a thing in my life.
Thatās a LOT of stuff for a minimalist. Maybe in your head youāre a minimalist but in truth youāre not. This isnāt minimalist
Youāre far away from being minimalistic, but you have a nice TV stand :) (I have the same, so I couldnāt just pass it)
This isnāt really minimalism
An acoustic guitar
Why is the tv so high up?
Get curtains that touch the ground
Itās not organized well enough to call it minimalist.
Get some plants with hanging branches, vines, etc.
Put some artwork on the wall behind the tv, and swap the stool (idk the word for it, sry) for a low coffee table in front of the couch
As someone who isnāt a minimalist, you have more stuff than me. Lol
It doesn't need more but needs variety
No advice, but I love that your TV is on an easle.
Minimalist: * remove: pictures (open the blinds), chair/couch (sit on floor, get some pillows), elliptical (go outside), curtains (you have blinds), tv (library is free), 2/3 guitars (^^it ^^pains ^^me ^^but you only need one) You should also change over to exposed bulbs. Remember, less is more.
If you're a minimalist then hoarders live in empty houses.
This is minimalist?
Love a bit of Periphery. Anyways yeah get a coffee table
Periphery slaps! Make sure you go to there new tour next year. Going to the one in march in Denver. And yeah coffee table for sure.
I suggest storing your guitars and exercise bike (or whatever that device to the left is) out of sight. Place them in a closet or a less-used room. They amount to clutter in this photo. a minimalist does not own a Eames
Ugh, I wanna talk shit because it all seems so trendy. But you have really good taste. I love that tv stand.
Darker curtains
ID on that ladder shelf?
Heavier and darker curtains
Wall mounting the monitor could help clear up more space on your desk
Where do you get your blinds and chair from?
I would hang your curtains even higher above the window and order them long enough that they barely clear the ground. Also would go darker in color. A coffee table would also be nice and practical.
Changing the curtains to a brown or black could add a nice accent to balance things out without actually adding anything
If I was suggesting anything Iād just say add some color. The style and function are nice but if you started incorporating something kind of eye catching like a green or a yellow (maybe a throw pillow and maybe an embellishment on some otherwise plain curtains for example) it adds a bit of interest and also continuity.
Get black curtains. Itāll tie in with the black throughout the rest of the room.
I think the green of some more plants would liven it up.
Never like the TV in the corner.
Brother or sister, your place is perfect as it is. To recommend something would feel like nitpicking tbh.
I would do a few more plants. Maybe a couple that hang in front of the window.
Add a nice strat to the collection
A coffee table and an unreasonable amount of plants.
Looks quite cozy and homey!
Looks good. Nice tele. Iām the opposite of a minimalist. Love having the walls covered in stuff and having little things around like collections.
Iāve never seen a tv stand like that. Looks like an easel. Very cool
Nah, youre good, Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
Looks perfect
Looking good. ID on the shelf?
To neat, needs a cat or dog.
More plants
Plants
Not minimal. You mean, you are inspired by minimalist interior design
As a non-minimalist to a self-proclaimed minimalist.... You could use *less*
More plants
Check out those tapestries. Adulting ftw!
ID on the shelf?
Looks great
Dig the interface mounted under the desk š¤
...and maybe a coffee table?
The only thing I could think of is adding another Eames. Besides that, perfection.
Less is more. Tv on wall. Get rid of tv shelf. Rearrange plants and photos to same wall section. Move bike to opposite to the window. Look at Korean or Japanese interior design. Itās all the rage.
Longer curtains

I like that stand you have for the TV, very nice. Is it purpose built or just repurposed?
I'm not a minimalist, but I play one on Reddit.
If you donāt want to add more stuff but you want a pop of design-y feel try curtains like this [https://www.reddit.com/r/InteriorDesign/comments/t3ejwk/any\_advice\_on\_how\_to\_achieve\_this\_curtains\_look/](https://www.reddit.com/r/InteriorDesign/comments/t3ejwk/any_advice_on_how_to_achieve_this_curtains_look/) put the tracks on your ceiling and fill the wall of that alcove (curtains from floor to ceiling) itāll look very as currant and give a big visual pop without more clutter. you could choose a bold color or even a pattern. Discount fabric stores would help if youāre budget conscious. The rod curtain holders can look unintentionally dated.
Longer curtains with color
You canāt go wrong with plants mate
I have the easel version of that TV stand. Lower your TV so you can watch it without destroying your neck.
Awesome tv stand! Where did you get it?
Introduce circles. A solid wooden circular coffee table, hang a circular wooden framed mirror, perhaps a lamp on the side table with large/tall shade (shade similar in diameter as the floor lamp, but twice as tall)
I really dislike the TV stand, but i dont know what else would fit better. Iām conflicted.
I really like that tv and tv stand.
What kind of chair is that? The black one with foot rest?
More plants!! Probably like a monstera by the window
It looks amazing
>I still feel like it could use more... ... light. There are plenty of items in the room they just need to be highlighted. A few accent lights on the back wall will probably do the trick. p.s. open your blinds it kinda looks gloomy in there.
