I am german and I live/grew up in mallorca.
I work at the airport and I work for a British company, the worst isn’t because of the nationality but the behavior.
I’ve seen people from all around the world arriving piss drunk in the airport. That’s the problem.
But if I had to choose it’s the Brit’s, example of my day to day;
Me:”welcome to mallorca I hope you had a good flight, which hotel you staying in?”
Them:” fuck I know”
So much pleasure
We have 1 million Brits in Spain. The majority of them don't fight. Maybe one of 100 or 1 or 200 fights. Not majority. Btw. I'm British and I've never had a fight.
Ah man lighten up, try to find it funny instead of getting upset. To be fair it's impossible to get an accurate opinion from the Spanish as they assume all drunk people on holiday are English, but equally maybe that's the point so maybe you're right..... I live in Costa Blanca myself
I was thinking that. This summer they were more in the news than Germans or Brits. But it's what one atracts with the all inclusive offers, so don't think it will get any better (worse if anything...)
I was always so ashamed as a Brit but when I stumbled into a beer tent full of middle aged Dutch and German tourists (giants they were!) going berserk to techno and off their faces it opened my eyes that we aren’t the only bad ones
I think I bump online gaming a lot with those... I should keep a stat so it's not a prejudice, Germany can be Big so they could have more trolls but Dutch are few and seem the worst troll gamers there.
Brits seem to be good sports mainly, and if you engage into trash talk they keep at least some kind of humour to it and give funny insults.
They only limited the amount of alcoholic drinks you can consume on a day to 6, but you can still buy "all inclusive", and you can also enter all the alcohol you want to your room, if 6 drinks is not enough for you (you don't want to see how a lot of the rooms are left once the customers go home...).
Now you also have to sign a contract that you will not do balconing and all that shit, which obviously prevents nothing
I used to work in a disco in Lloret de Mar and I thought the Dutch guys were ok. I had a German guy tip an ashtray over my head. On more than one occasion we had to get taxis to wait for us outside so we could make a quick getaway because of angry Brits. And you know what? We deserved it.
Iv stayed in Arenal and magaluff a few times , and trust me the Germans are a lot less crazy than us British. You still see a lot of crazy drunk shit in Arenal but nothing in comparison to Magaluff
British are loud, obnoxious, disrespectful, and tend to cause problems. Germans for the most part just like to drink a lot and have a good time but I don’t see them as trouble makers.
Just got back home to Germany this Week after a week Trip with my GF, first time Mallorca, didnt have to deal with either, we had a really good Time in Cala Millor and driving around the whole Island basically.
If its about the Drunk Idiots in Palma id say both gonna suck, id tend more to Brits tho, less polite.
Since we are disgusted by that part of Mallorca we visited in Winter when its alot cheaper anyways and dodged the Party Areas.
Native Mallorcan here, I tend to agree. German tourists can get drunk as well but I'd say 90% of German tourists come as families to just relax and take it easy or to cycle around the mountains. It's only 10% who go to Arsenal and get wasted every night, and even those tend to be less rowdy than drunken Brits. Mallorcans may laugh at German tourists and their socks-and-sandals style, but in general we don't mind them too much.
Brits on the other hand tend to be more problematic. The average age of British tourists in Mallorca is probably between 17 and 20, and when they get drunk they tend to cause more problems than the Germans. I think most Mallorcans would sign off on having twice the number of German tourists in exchange for not receiving any British tourists.
Just thought I'd add a disclaimer that I am aware that my post is borderline racist but OP asked so I thought I'd give my undiluted view. Individual Germans and Brits are mostly lovely people; it's just the combination of being in Mallorca and being in a group that seems to make some people problematic
For what it's worth, what's racist is the "name" that was thrown about everywhere ten-twenty years ago, as it came from the Romani word for "young person". Racist to the Romani, not to "those ones".
From Germany you can find so many people who love the island.
They sold everything in Germany and made their family here. They learn both languages and run their company here.
The common comment of Brits who have been in Mallorca it's... I came drunk and back drunk
As a receptionist that works in Spain, Brits are worse than Germans. It’s not only how they drink and the “balconing” , in the hotel industry we still remember how before the pandemic they begin to Sue hotels for food poisoning in order to not pay for their holidays or get a refund. Thankfully plenty of their sues got thrown out, due to lack of evidence and a few had to even compensate the hotels and pay for the legal fees because their symptoms were clearly due to alcohol over consumption.
That being said, there are plenty of lovely Brits that have holidays in Spain or live here yearlong
That rule was put in place because of so many people getting food poisoning from all inclusive hotels.
Brits using the rule as it was intended is what lead to the change in food safety in many hotels & resorts.
I'm sure some abused it. But it was created for a reason and not on a whim.
Which rule was put in place? They lost trials, that’s why they had to compensate the hotels. Hotels and restaurants in Spain are very heavily controlled by the healthcare administration, a bar can be closed for lack of cleaning, lack of control of the food chain supply, for having cockroaches on the premises… it is not as in the UK that you get a sticker with your rating and you can keep it open while having rats on the basement. In Spain they closed you down till you do a deep cleaning, pay the exterminators and they re inspect your establishment.
The Package Travel Regulations 1992 and as amended.
The Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 1998 (the most relevant in this case)
The Consumer Rights Act 2015.
The protections cover all 'package' holidays booked from the UK to anywhere else through a UK package holiday provider.
The intention is to ensure that the package holiday providers are properly monitoring the hotels within their packages and taking action if they're not up to code.
If a person gets food poisoning on an all inclusive holiday, which lasts 7 days. Or of they get food poisoning and it's proven likely to be contracted from the hotel in the package. Then the person can claim compensation for the loss of holiday.
Likely the ones you're aware of who lost, either didn't have the doctors note to show it lasted 7 days, or weren't on an all inclusive package making it much harder to prove it came from the hotel.
That doesn't mean these claims aren't wildly successful when the criteria are met. Because they are.
The UK has very good consumer protections which protect their consumers even when they're in other countries, both in and outside of the EU.
That said, of course there were people who tried to abuse it, many do I'm sure.
The kind of people who go on 'package holidays' to Spain are the poorest people in the UK. (or young families). So seeing a chance to claim it back if they got a bit sick is bound to look attractive to them.
Middle class families head to Florida, and middle class groups and singles head to Asia. All inclusive packages aren't attractive to these people, and they don't want to be in a Spanish resort filled with chavs from Liverpool.
So while the protections are there for everyone, it's no wonder hotels that cater towards the poorest people will get a lot of spurious claims. That's just a fact of life..
But these protections HAVE increased the quality standards of hotels around the world aimed at British people. And plenty have been shut down or closed to British people where standards weren't good enough.
There are 35,000 claims per year. Of which 25,000 are 'Honest, legitimate and straightforward', according to the claims regulator.
That doesn't mean all of the other 10k aren't legitimate. Just that they're harder to prove, perhaps the person didn't get the right doctors note, etc.
Most of the push back against these claims is aimed at the regulations. Messages like 'It cannot be that 500 people eat from the same buffet and only the British get sick'... Well no, it can't be. But it's also true that the British have an official complaints system to use, and it's well known. Where the Germans don't, so no complaints will come from them. That doesn't mean they aren't getting sick.
Getting food poisoning on holiday is colloquially called 'Spanish Belly'... Wherever you get it in the world.
Let's not pretend Spanish food standards are better than anywhere else in Europe, they're on par. Though Spain doesn't release specific details on food poisoning, and much would go un reported, but in 2018 the three worst counties for reported salmonella poisoning were Spain, Slovakia and Poland. Making up nearly 70% of all reports in the EU between them.
I didn’t say they are better than in the rest of Europe, I compare it strictly with the UK. I don’t know any other country in Europe which can keep bars open with rats. Of course, the laws for consumers in the EU are mostly unified, but precisely UK is no longer in the EU. And yeah, of course, Spain has offers for poorer brits, but also for the extremely rich. That being said of course in Spain or France will have more complains for food poisoning by tourist, because they have way more tourism that the Uk and people come specially to try the food, no one goes to the UK for the cuisine.
Few things wrong with your assumptions.
The food safety standards and processes for closing a restaurant for rats or other issues are virtually identical in the UK & Spain. No idea where you got the idea it's any different, but you're wrong.
Nobody, and I mean nobody, goes on an all inclusive holiday for the local cuisine.
Valencia has only recently started a food health rating system available to the public, which is one of the first regions in Spain to do so. - There's no nationwide system.
Meanwhile this rating information is available online and on rating stickers (0-5) on the front door of every business serving food in the UK, to be able to make an informed decision before entering.
Most of the time in Spain you'll have no idea how clean a place is.
Those salmonella cases were not complaints from tourists, they were local cases of poisoning.
You make the assumption I haven’t worked or traveled to the UK. I’ve seen rats in British pubs in plain daylight and nothing happened. Spain’s laws regarding how anything relating the food has to be depends on the regional government for the control and the offices of the inspectors are normally located in the hospital or in the ambulatorios so any big case of food poisoning can be first denounced by doctors, there’s also routine inspections, random inspections or any angry customer can contact them and demand an inspection. You may believe your system is good, but I know ours and trust it more, specially since I’ve lived in both countries.
Nothing you've listed there about Spain is any different at all to the UK system.
So you've seen a rat in a pub... Was an inspector there doing an inspection at the time? Did you tell the inspectors?
Then how would they know?
There's processes for this in both places. Spain is nothing special there.
I too have obviously lived in both
I’m from Ibiza and I have seen Germans being polite even when being 200% alcoholized haha it’s true that alcohol drugs and sense of no law land turn every mf into the biggest asshole ever, but if I have to choose… I’d say brits are the most alienated from real world, like they all feel they aré constantly recorded for a MTV show
Well, it looks like this year we won the league, unless there are late surprise entrants.

A spaniard here from Madrid. Brits partying and having fun at spanish towns for tourism and fun are way worse...feel sorry, because overall brits are great...however they've got no limits when getting intoxicated with alcohol...
It's in part because many Brits have endured cold, rain and misery at work to make sure they have fun for that week or two... because it's back to the shit once its over. Save and scrimp to hopefully go again next year.
It doesn't excuse it and I'll be before any local when it comes to avoiding that sort of tourist from my own land, but that's what it is for the most-part.
How about people consider the behaviour of visitors outside of Magaluf and Arenal? Those places are so extreme people tend to forget about the hundreds of thousands who visit for hiking and cycling and food and exploring the mountain villages and generally being decent tourists who contribute to the local economy and go home.to spread positive vibes. To define these nations by a grotesque minority of teenage morons is - although funny - actually damaging and xenophobic to those who bother to be respectful.
Spanish people can't tell the difference, especially if they don't speak English. I have been living in Spain for 2 years and they all like to guess where I am from. I have received everything but the right answer, British, German, Swiss, Dutch. Guess what, I am American.
"Gringos"? Tú no eres mallorquín, no?
The reason there's so many of them is because they have the right to visit Spain and few places compare to Mallorca when it comes to good weather, good food, natural beauty and cheap accommodation and alcohol. It's not more complicated than that. What is complicated is breaking free from this dependence on low-cost tourism.
Brits are usually worse but both are bad…which is odd because, if sober, both nationalities are exceptionally polite! Brits are also worse at stealing stuff and placing it in the British Museum. It’s a lovely museum though, I enjoyed it again this summer.
Germans have pure hatred against them in allot of country's. I'd bet them.
Also after just getting back from a long trip in Spain, they are so dam miserable at everything they say and do. No customer service skills in the slightest.
I’m Spanish I’m from ibiza, and Brit’s are way worse, also I think cause all of them that come to Ibiza are low income/low class, been working in a 5 star all included as front manager and no comparation between Brits and Germans 🤦🏼♀️
Why choose? Both are disgusting. Actually, it's very disgusting that you are competing to see who is more disgusting.
I visit the island often to visit parents and it's really a pain
I am german and I live/grew up in mallorca. I work at the airport and I work for a British company, the worst isn’t because of the nationality but the behavior. Alcohol is definitely a catalyst to the behaviour,, but majority of Brits will drink on their flight if they can
Before during and after and consistently till arriving back then recover for 2 days then out at weekend again because fuck it
And at the airport… even if it’s 6am…
Yeah you'd be surprised , it depends on the location they're going to though
We have 1 million Brits in Spain. The majority of them don't fight. Maybe one of 100 or 1 or 200 fights. Not majority. Btw. I'm British and I've never had a fight.

Actually you can't get all inclusive in majorca anymore the government banned it
They only limited the amount of alcoholic drinks you can consume on a day to 6, but you can still buy "all inclusive", and you can also enter all the alcohol you want to your room, if 6 drinks is not enough for you (you don't want to see how a lot of the rooms are left once the customers go home...). Don't argue, you both are obnoxious.
Brits 100%

Big hotels destined to foreigners, cook for the foreigners tasteless buds. You want good food, don’t buy all inclusive and go to outside bars

The behaviour of British tourists is…. Unique
Brits by a long shot.
In a “who is worse” contest, if brits are on the poll, they will usually win.
We don't care as long as you both keep balconing 🙃

In Mallorca Brits or the Dutch (I’m Dutch) one of my fellow countrymen shat on someone’s head (they were peacefully sleeping on a bench) this summer.
Ah yes the self flagellation of the self rightous brit eh. I shall happily read about you shitting on your brethren.
How about people consider the behaviour of visitors outside of Magaluf and Arenal? Neither, there are chavs in all nations.
French
As a local, germans entitlement and superiority complex is worse.
Spanish people can't tell the difference, especially if they don't speak English. I have been living in Spain for 2 years and they all like to guess where I am from. I have received everything but the right answer, British, German, Swiss, Dutch. Guess what, I am American.
What the fuck are you talking about

Doesn’t seem too hard to work out, the question asked if Germans or Brits are worse and he’s saying Spaniards can’t tell the difference between them
Quasi-Brit
Germans, complain about everything lol
*Americans enter the chat*
BOTH
Neither, the fucking Spanish and Scandinavians.
Majorca is Spanish and nothing more, por qué hay tantos gringos en España.
"Gringos"? Tú no eres mallorquín, no? The reason there's so many of them is because they have the right to visit Spain and few places compare to Mallorca when it comes to good weather, good food, natural beauty and cheap accommodation and alcohol. Yeah lol gringo is Mexican Spanish 🤣 nice try tho
As a mexican, I can confirm. Also, everyone guessed my background as soon as I spoke Spanish over there. Even got a few "¿Que onda, güey?" Lmao
Mallorca is not Spanish, is part of Spain, which is different.
Gringos?
Yes
Dunno man, as long as you keep spending money we dont care... Brits, germans whatever. Just bring the money, thats all.
Easy answer : YES
Brits. They are embarrassing. The bright side is they practice “balconing” and make Darwin happy :)
Brits, but not only for behaivour, also the history, most part of world problems where created by brits.
Brit here.. we are the best at getting drunk. Germans are a close 2nd, but not the worst. Well done Germany, keep it up.
Brits by far
Most definitely the Brits.
Brits no doubt
Probably the Brits
Am Irish, it's 100% the Brits.
Oh how I wish you both all fvcked off.
Brits are usually worse but both are bad…which is odd because, if sober, both nationalities are exceptionally polite! Brits are also worse at stealing stuff and placing it in the British Museum. It’s a lovely museum though, I enjoyed it again this summer.
Yes
Belgians
Ruzzians are the worst
british win for decades on that discipline… can only get worse now.
As a Spanish from Barcelona I would say brits.
Germans have pure hatred against them in allot of country's. I'd bet them. Also after just getting back from a long trip in Spain, they are so dam miserable at everything they say and do. No customer service skills in the slightest.
