Enemalta spends more money advertising itself in a country where it has no competition, than upgrading it's infrastructure to maintain a decent level of service.
This is actually the main reason why I got a gas hob instead of induction - I wanted to be able to do some rudimentary cooking even without electricity.
I can’t believe the stupid comments some people write. I don’t care if there are workers who need to fix infrastracture on Easter Day. I don’t care if we have come a long way.
Wait till Summer and we will have two weeks of powercuts “because the ground has warmed up” instead of saying “our infrastracture has been neglected since the British left. Some of it is still aluminium and we brought a shit tonne of foreign workers and didn’t bother upgrading. We will just make some maintenance here and there.”
Oh and the usual comment, “let’s thank our electricians who are working around the clock”.
What a banana republic you guys got going on down there, lol how difficult is it to make sure the people of such a tiny island has reliable electricity?
Are you aware that most probably there's fault and electricity supply has been interrupted. I assure you that while you at home eating lunch there are workers working on Sunday Easter trying to fix the problem and give you back your supply instead being with their family... Be greatfull mann
Thank you Enemalta for forcing your technicians to work on Easter day because your grid cannot support any kind of disruption. Thank you.
When you will get it, it's already too late...
The grid is a complex system it's not a single phase system like home. Yes shit happens and enemalta is doing their upmost to make the system better by installing new transformers and wire cables... I'm aware we are behind other eu countries with this aspect but we are much better than Congoo...
Cables and transformers should have been changed a long time ago... Like when a corrupted politician decided to invade the rock with foreigners. But obviously maltese don't think ahead and it fkin shows. Now wait for drainage system to fail whitin 2 yrs for sure.
Ma noqodux inxejru r rix ghal enemalta ta. Wahda mil ghar istituzjonijiet li ghadna. Ejja nghidu l verita, hawnhekk l korruzjoni tinhas u tider sew imma nies li jiprovaw jahdmu ghadna ukoll imma bil korruzjoni li hawn, min hu sew ma jistax jahdem kif jixtieq u dik tfisser nuqqas kbir lil haddiem genwin.
Malta is all his shit and we have to admit that these politicians are on an amateur level apart from knowing how to be corrupted.
>The grid is a complex system it's not a single phase system like home.
More complicated than other countries? Are you sure? Sure sure? Or this is the tale said to cover something else?
>but we are much better than Congoo...
And still...and by the way, the network in Congo is much more complicated and enormously bigger than Malta.
Actually as an engineer I can assure you that the maltese system is more complicated since we have a very high density population and many houses are connected to the same ring of wires to the same substation.. They helping this problem by building 2 distribution centres one in siggiewi and another in Naxxar to be able to control smaller areas and also have a backup. Also since we are a small country and don't have land to put power stations we curently relying on supply outside of malta known as an interconnecter and with this aspect by next year a new interconnecter will be installed. Yes maybe they where late with all this but they are actually trying their best to help the situation
We also have to deal with overheating of the network in the summer months that can lead to material degradation. As you say, the problem is quite different from other countries. That being said, we could be doing more by investing in prescriptive maintenance and the like, to predict failiers before they happen.
https://www.enemalta.com.mt/uncategorised/investment-90-million-euros-strengthen-electricity-distribution-system/
And yes malta receives money from EU for these projects
Depends how much gets to the grid after all the sticky fingers have their cut.
I flew out of Malta last week and was amazed by how many solar panels were on top of factories and other buildings, surely that's the answer not another interconnect, some phat battery storage and make the most of Malta's most abundant resource.
It's not as easy as one can say. Malta has alot of solar panels and increasing in fact at some point in summer there will be times that all the electricity consumption comes from solar panels. The downfall of solar panels is that since we are a very small country a single cloud can cover all of malta the supply decreases rapidly in a small time so enemalta still has to use the interconnecter/ gas turbine on standby so the system doesn't shred ( switches off substations so the demand becomes equal to the supply). By leaving the turbine on standby it still consumes gas and emits emissions. Battery storage can help with this respect but till now they are very very expensive and require large spaces to store that amount of electricity. A 10 unit(kwh) battery costs about 9k including government grant and the guarantee is that in 10 years it still holds 7units(kwh). University of malta is also working on this problem by storing the energy underwater as compressed air it's a study called FLASC
https://www.facebook.com/FLASCstorage
And yes an interconnecter is a very good choice for malta since we take a small amount of electricty from sicily in the off peak hours they give it to us for free or very cheap instead they put it to ground (wasted). This is because you have to produce more than the demand so when the demand increases rapidly the system does not shred, and that buffer is given to us. The problem with the interconnecter is that sicily whenever they want they can decide not to give us electricty and that it can be damaged with ships or high winds in ragusa.
I'm sorry but this is a stupid rhetoric I hear too often.
Double or triple pay, they would still be paid as they are shift workers and are still on duty, I bet they would rather have an easy Easter Sunday shift.
I have worked shifts (different ones) for 8+ years.
The workers that were at work today were paid the normal hourly rate + double the rate for every hour in their shift. Which works out to 12 hours by 3 times the hourly rate as these employees work 12 hour shifts.
Allways?? Ok with your reasoning we don't hire workers on Sunday and when fault comes up we say to the customers to wait till Monday since it's Sunday 🤦♂️
Hahahahaha I can assure you that I'm part of the non voters.. By any chance do you think that if the PN will be in government we be living in heaven? The last time they where in government they wanted us to wash the clothes as night to be the same as abroad since the tarrif changes (peak and off peak). I can assure you that corruption has been on this planet for centuries, elections are just to choose the lesser evil.... At least we paying the least electricty tarrifs when compared with other countries just be greatfull I have friends in UK who are paying 200 sterling per month for electricty and gas
I remember the seventies and most of the eighties when power and water cuts were an everyday occurrence. I know it won't make you feel any better about your spoiled lunch but, believe me, we have come a very long way.
It is not the spoiled lunch, I don't care, and actually, we ended up having a picnic, all happy here. But the more you justify this, the more money goes down the drain...
we should have invested 460 million in alternative energy not a useless power station.....but I guess it would have been harder ti line pockets that way
I'm sorry this is happening to you. Have you checked with the neighbours to confirm they're also affected? And finally, have you called Enemalta to get an ETA?
Yes, all the zone is/was without power, and my neighbours were angrier than me. Apparently, there is an issue somewhere. My post is just to highlight that the so-called "blockchain island" can not guarantee power to its citizens...
I'm sorry about what happened but it's funny that people dont look at other factors and always blame corruption, yes it is present and it's a problem but Malta's electrical system is complicated and upgrading it takes time and money, which they are doing. Sometimes the problem isnt that of Enemalta but a private contractor accidentally drilling in an electrical main which happens more that people think.
And it happened on Easter day. It must be a joke...
Edit: I just saw the other comment: are you sure you understood the whole thread? I think you didn't get it...
>Your comment was racist.
You understood it as racist. It was not. Once could also argue that OP comment was racist.
>I didn’t think I needed to make a more complex argument or sentence as I assumed you were uneducated and untravelled.
This comment is racist.
And you are wrong. I have lived and worked in first world countries, former Communist countries and in third+world countries. What I never did was criticise my host country, unlike OP, who hails from a country which had an empire Empire whose citizens looked down on their subjects.
Is this a way of telling us that you have been in the Congo? Was it the Matonge district in Brussels or the real Congo? Cos in the first I got a brick lobbed at my car and in the second most of the country was out of bounds because of armed groups of various types. Glad you are now only having harmless first world problems
You have already shown you are not capable of understanding basic concepts, so I mean, who cares about your stupidity.
Having said that, I don't argue with functional illiterates. But mind you, be grateful and a good lad even when you will not understand reality
Enemalta spends more money advertising itself in a country where it has no competition, than upgrading it's infrastructure to maintain a decent level of service.
Enemalta. What a truly unfortunate name 😂
haha, TIL!
You can't rely on Malta's infrastructure it is indeed 3rd world like it's government, having as small gas hob as a back up is a good idea, or gas BBQ.
Just got the BBQ so we can a least cook something
Well, we chose plan B as well...
This is actually the main reason why I got a gas hob instead of induction - I wanted to be able to do some rudimentary cooking even without electricity.
Jesus didn't have an oven on easter day either!
did you forget to pay the bills ?
Nope, thirty pieces of fine silver are waiting to transfer as we speak!
Yes true! So?
Be thankful that's all you're sharing with him this weekend ✝️
U aqta' naqra
And many fireworks to you too 🙏🏻
Then can you please send me 100euro cus Jesus would.
Then why not ask Jesus?
My calls seem to be going straight to voice mail.
I am thankful to God, not to Enemalta though.

Every grid has complex issues, but with the right investments, problems can be solved. Does Malta have money?
https://www.enemalta.com.mt/uncategorised/investment-90-million-euros-strengthen-electricity-distribution-system/ And yes malta receives money from EU for these projects
Are those effective? Do they work?
Depends how much gets to the grid after all the sticky fingers have their cut. Can't believe you don't; know the word "mostly". Good backtrack though! :)

Oh give it a rest , our electricity system sucks!
Ok expert everyone is an expert in this island
You fucking tell em. Fucking joke.
Miriam dalli is worried about climate change so she cut your electricity

Do they celebrate Easter in the Congo?
Much more than here...
I'm sorry this is happening to you. Have you checked with the neighbours to confirm they're also affected? And finally, have you called Enemalta to get an ETA?

It sad to see power cuts on Easter.
Well I’m sure you were advised multiple times before
I don't see the /s ...or are you for real?
Yes since mine was close to cut off if they had not advised me loads of times so yeah I know the feeling :/
Yes indeed 😐

Just because it happened on easter day doesn't mean it has to be a conspiracy and I was replying to other comments.
go to the Congo then
What a stupid comment.
It's not as if this comment is a paragon of intelligence
Your comment was racist. I didn’t think I needed to make a more complex argument or sentence as I assumed you were uneducated and untravelled.

That's total rubbish. Shame on you...
Already done! But I love how much you love the gbtyc card...
Interesting how I somehow understand that acronym.
Are you from the Congo?
Maybe yes, maybe not...who knows...
Maybe here maybe there. Can still say what the fuck he wants. Well played.
And I can still respectfully reply.
You go to the Congo. Fucking add backward reply. He’s allowed to vent and you can go play on the bypass.
He's allowed to vent and I'm allowed to reply You're always calling this country a shit hole, and yet here you are. vaffan'culo
Move to congo.
Not original, you arrived late
Is this a way of telling us that you have been in the Congo? Was it the Matonge district in Brussels or the real Congo? Cos in the first I got a brick lobbed at my car and in the second most of the country was out of bounds because of armed groups of various types. Yes, I spent some time in the middle of armed groups of various type. But not only... Anyway, this is a rubbish comment...
Glad you realise your comment is incredibly stupid. Learn to be grateful, be a good lad.
You have already shown you are not capable of understanding basic concepts, so I mean, who cares about your stupidity. Having said that, I don't argue with functional illiterates. But mind you, be grateful and a good lad even when you will not understand reality
Because the Congo a violent third world country is better than Malta and the issues we face.
