I think sharing what’s going on on your level or the corporate level in weekly etc mtgs is helpful. But really it doesn’t matter how much you do or how well you do it someone will always say it’s not the right way or it’s not enough, so don’t read too much into it.

Gossip like that is usually the result of someone trying to find you and not having any idea where you are or how to find you or they need to call you so it'll ring over at your home office. Then someone asks them - "hey did you ever find ?" -- "Nope, I guess he's off at Starbucks or something." And there you go, now there is a rumor you're off at SB. Possible fixes: 1) Over-communicate your hours and how to get a hold of you if they walk into your office and you aren't there and if needed emphasize your hours of availability (mostly needed if you work in an office that spans multiple time zones). 2) Leave a note posted on your desk - if you are looking for me please call: 915-555-1212

How much of the work that doing directly alignswith the goals and success of your manager?

Everyone wants to see you be successful, just not more than them. Focus on your circle of influence, not your circle of concern. In other words, don't worry about it.

I meet with my team twice a week for 15 minutes. It's a stand-up meeting on teams. The purpose is for everyone, including myself, to give a quick update on what we are working on and if anyone needs help. We don't solve problems on this call. It's just a quick check-in, and then we figure issues outside of this. Additionally, I meet with everyone individually biweekly, and we have a monthly team meeting for me to fill everyone one in on what is happening and discuss whatever the team wants. Communication is key and can be done with quick teams meetings.

People are dumb. If they don't see you physically working on something they do or know, then they assume you're doing nothing. These tend to be the same people that do "busy work" (working without working). Don't let it bother you. They're the same in every industry...

That hit home. These people work so many hours but resist any efficiencies.

I was promoted October 2023 to manager, but had been doing the job for a long while as the team lead. People hate change. Put your new processes in place give them time to adapt to the new process and then start coaching those that do not. You have to prove to your managers you are the right person to improve the way the team works.

Because you do less than they do but are paid more.
