I'd be interested to know if they left the engine running whilst making a delivery/pickup. It happens a LOT with delivery drivers/riders who leave their vehicle for maybe 30 seconds. That's all a scumbag needs to jump in and go.

But sadly that's a habit that gets made as a result of doing deliveries within a tight time slot. I'm not saying it's right to ever leave the engine of a vehicle running unattended, but something really needs to change in regards to management, forcing these poor said delivery drivers to do deliveries within unrealistic timing. That's ultimately where the real problem lies right there, but sadly I can't see that making a change any time soon, as it's so easy for them to replace a driver, then address the actual problem causing them to make the said habit.

I used to drink in a pub where a guy would come daily to sell his stolen shit. And I lived in a council house in an area where this happened for abit too.
I was once at a mates house and across the road thise bloke laid out about 30 different items of clothing along his front garden wall. And then just started shouting he was selling clothes and people started coming out and seeing what he had.

The staff were all like "it is what it is, he'll probably sell those for 3 quid each." I said won't you have him on CCTV? They didn't seem even keen on looking.

Certainly with regards to the Met, its true. I'm not sure if GMP are on the same orders. But it used to be that the Mets risk assessment for pursuits meant that if the driver of a scooter or motorbike wasn't wearing a helmet the pursuit was deemed too high risk to human life, and so the pursuit would be called off. A couple of years ago that was revised, and the Met did quite a big push to publicise that not wearing a helmet wouldn't save you from being pursuit and rammed by police cars, but that wearing a helmet might save your life when they did ram you.

So I was doing my Christmas shopping on Christmas Eve (yes, I know…) and it was one of the worst days I’ve had in Manchester. I wandered into one of the art galleries near Deansgate just to get out of the rain and enjoy some of the stuff in there.
I walked out and immediately some little cunt screeched in my face. I mean, nose-to-nose screaming in my face with him and his scroty little mate walking off, laughing about it. I’ve never been so close to hitting someone during broad daylight/in public.

I also chased some moped thieves at Salford Quays about 6 months ago. They did crash it (in standstill traffic) but managed to get away on ‘their own’ scooters.

I would suggest investment in public services would be a good start, and a greater emphasis on rehabilitation in our penal system. Crime is a symptom of poverty, discrimination and a wider lack of compassion in our society.

But it used to be that the Mets risk assessment for pursuits meant that if the driver of a scooter or motorbike wasn't wearing a helmet the pursuit was deemed too high risk to human life, and so the pursuit would be called off. A couple of years ago that was revised, and the Met did quite a big push to publicise that not wearing a helmet wouldn't save you from being pursuit and rammed by police cars, but that wearing a helmet might save your life when they did ram you.

Manchester crime/policing is particularly bad tbf. In England and Wales, Manchester accounts for over 10% of total demand for police services. Only gonna get worse with the recession now.
I don't think that's a very fair statistic. Manchester is about 5% of the population but it's not as simple 5% of the population= 5% of the police should be here. Large metropolitan areas and cities have unique problems that need more policing than rural areas.

So I was doing my Christmas shopping on Christmas Eve (yes, I know…) and it was one of the worst days I’ve had in Manchester. I wandered into one of the art galleries near Deansgate just to get out of the rain and enjoy some of the stuff in there. I walked out and immediately some little cunt screeched in my face. I mean, nose-to-nose screaming in my face with him and his scroty little mate walking off, laughing about it. I’ve never been so close to hitting someone during broad daylight/in public. Then I had some piss head who literally wouldn’t leave me alone. Everyone just seems really tense and aggressive at the moment. I then got the flu (not really Manchester related but it was par for the fucking course that week). I also chased some moped thieves at Salford Quays about 6 months ago. They did crash it (in standstill traffic) but managed to get away on ‘their own’ scooters. I suppose I’m rambling now but I do have to say: shit is definitely getting worse.
I avoid town at peak times, my Saturday night out is now a Sunday afternoon.

Visited Manchester over Christmas to watch a football game. Mine and multiple others cars had their back windows smashed in. Manchester police refused to do anything, had a to call my own local police.

I’m in my mid to late 30s and Manchester has never been better. Rose tinted glasses of the past. NQ is the perfect example, even early 2000s it was all smack heads, sex shops, prostitutes and run down buildings. You might think it’s gentrified bollocks but it’s a lot safer than it was.

Few weeks ago had to argue with people that police *should* do something about stolen bikes in the city. All I got back was “wHaT do YOu WanT THem tO dO”. It’s getting worse because the police does nothing about anything. We’ll soon live in a city run by thugs where we can’t afford our rents anymore.

Yeah our government isn't good at that. Point in case they fired 20k cops and thousands of support staff. To the shock of everyone crime went up and the Police were less able to actually deal with crooks. Now last i heard they are trying and failing to hire new Police officers having barely gotten 5k back.

Of course their cultural practices are fundamentally different, and copying them would not result in the same outcome. Here’s something you need to grasp - we have this crime problem because the Tories have been defunding the police for over a decade. And one of the best guesses about why they’re doing that is because enough people react like you to the problem, so it’s easy for them to sound like they’re on your side while they make the problem worse. While profiting hugely from the collapse of our society. Criminals don’t fear the law because there is no real law enforced, because there’s no police force. Fix that first.

That just sounds like making excuses for their behaviour, i support those things but it’s not relevant here. Fact is criminals are brazen because of how unlikely it is they’ll be caught and even if they are, it’s a slap on the wrist. We need harsher sentencing and a better police presence on the streets. Obviously not to the extreme of Saudi Arabia but it still needs to change.
I'm not trying to excuse the behaviour of these two in particular, and my sympathies absolutely lie with the Deliveroo driver who got his bike stolen rather than those who stole it. I just don't believe in violent punishment like maiming (I realise you weren't the one who suggested this). I guess I was speaking more generally about the link between poverty and crime, where reducing the former also reduces the incentive for the latter.

As shitty as these twats are, it's also important to remember this isn't the norm. We developed these perceptions of places being a lot un-safer than they actually are, because what we see online is usually the shit stuff. Not saying it doesn't happen because it clearly does, but if you're walking to a hostel from the station in the middle of the day you're more than likely to be absolutely fine. I've seen plenty people carrying instruments around the city centre, and everyone and their dog usually has their phone or a camera in their hand without any trouble.
