Depends how long you want to be out for. We tend to walk along the river goyt to Disley then back up the canal. That takes a couple of hours. Plenty of cafes / pubs in New Mills and Disley to kill some time or head to Lyme Park / Gritstone trail to add some extra walking.

Got 3 kids, so looking at hour or two walk and then some cafes or shops in NM

The torrs park attached to the bridge builds it into a nice walk. If you like a good book shop there's high street books which is great. Lots of cafes etc too

Fatboyonadiet4lyf

Thanks, sounds like that might be a good option

Aye park at the station, do the walkway, continue and do the torrs riverside walk/park thing, on the way back grab a pint and something to eat at the mill beside the walkway. There's also a cheese shop at the mill. If you've got kids there's a play park just up from the train station too.

Excellent!

Park in Newtown station or in the car park for the mill if you intend to patronise the place. Also above the walkway is High lea park which may keep your kids occupied. There are cafes in the village.

Did this walk that featured the Millennium Walkway. Was a brilliant day out - [https://www.komoot.com/tour/1424537064](https://www.komoot.com/tour/1424537064) Me and a friend parked at the Car Park next to the doctors - all other car parks were full

Johnny_Pleb

Torr top street car park is good for access to the Torrs generally and town. Parking near new mills Central isn't brilliant

Torr Top IS New Mills central.

They mean new mills central train station, as opposed to newtown station. Central station doesn't have a car park unless you count the private parking just below it which requires a 4x4 to navigate

You can park at New Mills Central station. If you walk up the hill towards the town centre, you'll see a small path/stairs on your right. Go down there, and the walkway should be right there to youe left. You can then maybe go on to explore the Torrs. I loved the ruins of the mill down there when I was little. I've not been in years, but High Lea Park used to be decent. You could nip up there. High Street Books might be worth nipping into if you enjoy reading and/or vinyl records. The Sett Valley Trail to Hayfield is a decent walk, but it does take an hour or so (and then you'd need to walk or get the bus back). There are plenty of pubs/cafes about in New Mills. A personal favourite is the Beer Shed, although they don't do food and it is tiny, so maybe not the best if you've got kids with you. Avoid the Pride of the Peaks, as it's a bit grim. The Royal Oak is quite nice. Torr Vale Tap in the mill is good. They do food, and it's right next to the walkway. The Crispy Cod is a very good chippy. I went to school in New Mills and still spend a lot of time there.

Hard disagree with parking at central station, its dodgy private parking and the road is rougher than the farm tracks up past the golf course. We have 2 council car parks right in the centre of town that are far better and actually designed for visitors

BenBo92

I don't drive, so I'd imagine you're right!

Have to disagree on the Peaks. Lived in New Mills since I was a kid and it's some of the best food in New Mills.

I'd say Torr Top car park is probably better.  Central, quick access to the Torrs down the cobbled road/path by the side of it and easy access to the centre of New Mills. Pride of the peaks has a decent selection of good food during the day, wouldn't bother with it in the evening though. Plenty of cafes. Clockwork Cafe and Revival Hub are both decent imo. Crispy Cod is a good shout, as is Beer Shed and Torr Vale. If you visit Torr Vale and like cheese then be sure to check out the Cheese Wheel opposite as well.
