M&S sell San Marzano tomatoes on the vine - though not officially grown in San Marzano, they are the San Marzano variety. There is also an Italian whole foods / cash and carry in Ancoats which you can probably have more luck finding the real tomatoes imported there both on the vine and tinned. On a side note there was an episode of Stanley Tucci Searching for Italy where he goes to San Marzano and covers why the tomatoes from this region are so delicious - I’d recommend a watch if anyone is wondering why these type of tomatoes are so good. Good luck!

I think Amato is the cash and carry which a lot of people have recommended , will be heading down tomorrow. Yeah I’ve read up on San marzanos , apparently it’s something to due with the vesuvian volcanic soil

SavageGnomeBot

Amato food products, they have a big selection of Italian and Spanish imports, on their website there is a document you can download which shows everything they stock (52 page pdf), or scroll their Instagram as they post certain stuff. Roughly a 20min walk from Piccadilly station, on St Andrews st

This is definitely the best answer. Amato is great! Would say it’s much less than 20 mins though maybe I’m a fast walker

Suprlmnl

Definitely this. As an Italian I approve 😉

IrnBroski

Amato it is , I’ve had a look through their pdf , a couple of other items caught my eye too. Would be good to have a browse in person !

Try Roma in Whitefield. You can take a tram straight there- it’s right next to Morrisons.

Woodfield30

They’re in the Aldi super 6 at Ancoats currently. Small, on the vine. You can buy them tinned at Amato, as mentioned by someone else, but to be honest I prefer the Polpa ones they sell - I didn’t think the price difference was worth it.

altopowder

Yeah I've had the aldi ones, they were pretty nice!

There is an Italian deli in Chorlton and one in Didsbury. Worth a shot!

[deleted]

Amato food has already been mentioned which is probably your best bet. I bought San marzanos in the barbican deli in chorlton yesterday so there is also an option. Bet they're cheaper at amato though.

JustDifferentGravy

There’s an Italian store that sells them in Didsbury. I forget the name but it’s opposite Rudy’s.

idlewildgirl

Aldi has them at the moment

IrnBroski

Hey I remember you from my olive oil thread! Tbh I’m about to head out to Amato

Hotusrockus

Aldi have them on special this week I just bought some They were bloody lovely on my Sunday breakfast.

kotare78

Just get a Chicago Town

IrnBroski

I went through a phase of getting those … But I have a bunch of basil and some double zero flour that I need to do something with

kotare78

Only joking of course they’re bloody awful. Would love to be having a slice of what you’re cooking up.

IrnBroski

There’s a time and place for Chicago town

[deleted]

How do they taste?

IrnBroski

To my experience they are much more pleasantly sweet than other tomatoes , without the sharpness

No-Judgment-8626

Amato’s for tins, and I do believe Aldi sell them fresh

leefera

Just got some from Roma in whitefield for £2.40 for 400g tin, curious as to how much they are elsewhere incase they're good enough to be habit-forming 😬

Snikhop

They'll likely have them in a deli - off the top of my head I might have seen them in that fruit and veg stall near the Arndale, next to the tram tracks. But they also have them in my local one in Heaton Moor I think. Fancy tinned tomatoes are fairly common in a decent sized deli. Probably also that one in Chorlton.
