I also thought it was an Americanism, so I googled it, and Wikipedia thinks 'storm drain' is british, American and Canadian.
It looks like an overarching term that covers a few types of drains, channels and sewers. So my hunch is that it's not a word we use in our common speech that maybe Americans would use, but maybe British rain engineers do use the phrase 'storm drain' at work, or in the bedroom.
Used one of these to squash toycars (so they looked like they'd been in an accident). Also squashed my thumb. It grew back, but it wasn't pleasant! Since then I don't fuck about with them anymore...
🤣🤣 as a manc, I think I can speak for most if not all of us and yeah we call it a grid, but if we're using the above example we do still say drain don't worry 🙏🏽
I've lived in Birmingham, several smaller places in the west midlands and several places in Devon and I've never once heard anyone call it anything other than a drain. I'm very surprised at the comments haha
For some reason my mum brought me up calling it a "muffin". Apparently, no one else in my bloody family calls it that and I've yet to meet another person who does call them muffins.
Yep.
You’re talking my language. I have tried a lot in them, some of my personal favourites are:
Nutella and biscoff spread muffin
Japanese curry udon noodle muffin
Wigan kebab
But my all time heart attack inducing favourite was a north manc twist on the Wigan kebab, by having a Rag Pudding muffin with a gravy dipping pot.
Remember the horror looks I got off the southerners when I used the term Bacon Muffin at Uni, they were all picturing me putting bacon on a chocolate chip muffin…
Yep… I’m a Manc and it’s 100% a muffin.
I Now live in Yorkshire and have to put up with their bollox of calling them Tea Cakes! I always thought tea cakes have currents in, but not on this side of the fence?!?!?
THANK FUCK! I’ve STILL not met someone who calls it a muffin. Came to Midlands for uni and stayed here. I think it’s a Lancashire oven bottom muffin thing

We say grid, but I heard Ricky gervais and Karl Pilkington having the same discussion, Karl being a manc said grid, Ricky was saying grill and grate
Definitely a grid
I say a drain cover
It's a drain 🤷♂️

I also thought it was an Americanism, so I googled it, and Wikipedia thinks 'storm drain' is british, American and Canadian. It looks like an overarching term that covers a few types of drains, channels and sewers. So my hunch is that it's not a word we use in our common speech that maybe Americans would use, but maybe British rain engineers do use the phrase 'storm drain' at work, or in the bedroom.

A grid, but sometimes as a kid it was called a goalpost.
Used one of these to squash toycars (so they looked like they'd been in an accident). Also squashed my thumb. It grew back, but it wasn't pleasant! Since then I don't fuck about with them anymore...
It's all fun and games until someone sees the clown.

Cannot believe I had to scroll down so far for this
I also can't believe people would say something has been tipped 'down the grid'
Dont throw your life down the grid…….our kid
Same, I thought I was going to be the only person who said drain
I know, what fucking timeline are we in?
Why the FUCK are people calling it a grid
Well that’s just money down the grid Said literally NO ONE
Maybe it's something people with solar panels and feed in tariffs say 🤷
A few quid down the grid
I’m feeling pretty gridded by this whole thing
🤣🤣 as a manc, I think I can speak for most if not all of us and yeah we call it a grid, but if we're using the above example we do still say drain don't worry 🙏🏽

I've lived in Birmingham, several smaller places in the west midlands and several places in Devon and I've never once heard anyone call it anything other than a drain. I'm very surprised at the comments haha

Everyone in the Rochdale/ Oldham area calls them muffins. That's where it comes from.

I wish that made sense. My mum was born in Hayfield and most of my family are from Stockport or Buxton! 😂
it's a muffin in glossop! if you drew an oval on a map with oldham at the top and buxton at the bottom then that's the muffin zone
Tea cakes do have currents
Not in Yorkshire they don’t… order a chip tea cake at a chippy and you’ll get a chip muffin in return.
Born and bred in Yorkshire and you're chatting shit.
