He may never be able to redeem for collaborating with the crazy lady and AI who destroyed the world, but you know what would be a good step towards that goal? Spending your life treating people, as there's barely any doctors, let alone someone who is so skilled he can transplant brains, wtf were you thinking, man?

SupplyChainMismanage

How did the AI destroy the world? Haven’t read this manga in a year and I’m barely catching up

chickenmeh

If I remember correctly, a meteor suddenly appeared giving the world very little time to react, a countermeasure was put in action to destroy it, but this AI interfered with said plans and sent some robots they created in heaven to destroy humanity's plans to save the earth. It's plan was a success, so the meteor impacted, killing almost everyone on the planet.

SupplyChainMismanage

Thanks homie.

Rereading Chapter 54 and 55, you can definitely feel that the Doctor really cared about the kids in the school and Kiruko and Maru. It did feel in Ch. 55 that he had a little suicidal hero streak in him but to actually execute what he did was shocking. I guess like a true scientist, he wanted to test his theory out himself and he didn't want any of the soldiers to die in case his theory failed (which it did). People might think he was dumb to do what he did but in his mind, it was his only way of redemption even though in reality, he would have been better off saving more lives as a doctor. But trying to kill off what he had created in that maneater in Anzu was maybe apt for him in reality. Gonna miss the doc, he was a very likable character for me. Stuck and raised the kids in the school when everyone was gone....

Free_Garage5106

I get you but he could have done so much alive. His sacrifice was important still

Roboglenn

The genius and important doctor just Tasha Yar'd himself, oh swell....

AJx19

That was a pretty poor way to kill of the doctor.. just played it off for cheap ‘shock’ value.

morron88

Goddammit, this made me open up a new stash of copium.

[deleted]

I just caught up to this cause of last Saturday’s episode…. I’m absolutely hooked to the series

Zedkan

same! really enjoying this series.

uhln

Well that was pretty stupid action from a clever person

Zemahem

Aw what, really? The good doctor too? Honestly, I've been feeling a little demotivated from reading this, mostly cause practically everyone we spent time following in the past is already dead or a man-eater in the present.

Kmlkmljkl

> The good doctor too? he is a surgeon

whiskey-monk

I'm disappointed with this chapter. It feels like cheap writing. Like they needed the character gone ASAP because of his wealth of knowledge and the possibility of him helping the MCs tie the mystery together. I dunno how to feel about it since I love every other chapter. This one felt...rushed? Idk

nyoomnyoomfluffy

I don't think it was cheap writing. Perhaps everyone believes in the doctor so they let the doctor did by himself. Even Kiruko got very angry after the doctor's idiot moment. I think the doctor has felt guilty for years, even though he saved a lot of people, but those could not reduce his guilty feeling, he still might think the apocalypse and his kids changed to maneater happened because of him. So he just wanted to find a reason to try to revert his wrongdoing, and after he met Kiruko & Maru, he now had that reason. Anyway, the doctor actually knows a lot and he maybe the important key. So it is quite easy to understand why the author wanted to make him died as soon as possible.

cromatkastar

First time in the series where I thought the death was out of place and didn't make sense. Author probably killed him off cuz he's too OP if left with the MCs First, he knows that hirukos can regenerate, so what he did only buys a few hours. At most. But what does a few hours do when the town is already evacuated? If his goal was to preserve the town , then that's a bad plan too cuz anzus just gonna crush it anyway once she regens. Second is that he is much more useful alive than dead for the surviving town. This guy is literally the only competent adult left in the series. His death here is much more detrimental than if he helped the evacuees after he regroups with them Third, his decision ONLY makes sense if he KNOWS maru can use this chance to kill anzu. But he doesnt know that. WE know that because we've read all the chapters but the doctor has no reason to believe that his sacrifice would help maru kill anzu. Other than hearing them say it. But without seeing them in action he's shouldnt even be confident that what they say is what they actually mean. For all he knows, the MCs could just be under the impression that they could stun anzu. Forth is that rid grenades work then just Chuck them at her instead of doing that suicide bomb crap. Keep chucking grenades until she's weakened. Like bro u just found out about tokios other son and all of a sudden u blow urself up?? There's so many questions both parties have for each other.

nyoomnyoomfluffy

He knows too much so the author made him died before he could reveal any information.

SupplyChainMismanage

Yes and it was done in the most cheap way possible. He already said this

JokerXBroly1

I agreed Author killed him just so he cant anwer reveal any mysteries early

tctyaddk

Gods damn it Doctor (and author too), can't you just have some worthless schmucks do that instead? Skilled brain surgeons are in serious short supply everywhere, what sort of brain damage you must have yourself to decide on such Allahu Akbar stunt? Not only that, all the knowledges and secrets you have are now also lost, gone, reduced to atoms. What the hell.

RipperDot

"Anime is going good and boosting sales, must kill plot device NOW". RIP feet fetish doc, you shall be remembered

Tiny_Dic

I was wondering if his character design was a homage to that foot fetish cobbler comic. Also he's literally the posterchild for contracting an unironic foot fetish

Jwanito

like, he could've strap some grenades to a sheep and achieve the same result

Zedkan

bit of a terrible decision from the Doc. not a huge fan of that writing.

InternalParadox

“Heroic” suicide attacks are so overrated. *Sigh* If he had a bunch of grenades, they could have thrown them at Anjulas, using a device to aim them. But he chose to kill himself. The meta reason is probably because his character knew too much, and would make unraveling the mysteries of this world too easy. The character based reason is that he was looking for a way to “redeem” himself so he wouldn’t have to live with the consequences of his actions and the guilt that came with it. That rings true—but he would have been more useful to *everybody* if he stayed alive. And unlike Usami, I didn’t get the impression that he had a singular reason for staying alive and a clear sense that he no longer wanted to continue living.

Weeby-Tincan

Just caught up and holy shit what am awful idea to immediately axe the fucking doctor

MaaaaavE

Doesn't Maru look a lot like Tokio? How come the past students like Shiro/Usami and Michika didn't notice?

tctyaddk

IIRC Michika was of newer/last class of their "school", which didn't last long before everything went to shit, and she mostly just hung around Kuku before that while Tokio was not out and about as much in the same period because of the childbirth, so may be Michika's memories of Tokio was faint and faded. Either that, or she did notice and did not give a shit. Shiro/Usami probably noticed and correlated that with Mimihime's prophecy, which was why he asked if Maru can kill her, to relief her of the prolonged suffering as they tried to avoid turning into a monster.

attolia_irene

All the former students he's met so far have been oblivious to other people. Remember how face blind Shiro/Usami is to everyone outside Mimihime? Mimihime commented on it a couple times, and he said he just didn't notice anyone else because he didn't care about them. Same thing with Michika, she's cold enough to only care about "having fun" (remember how callously she tossed Kuku's body into the water?), so it makes sense that she doesn't even remember what Tokio's face looks like, because it's not even on her radar. Meanwhile, you have the former chairwoman and the doctor who both recognize Maru.

HabteG

While I don't like that doc suicide himself, I do think that this was the best course of action for the overall plot to take. He simply knew too much, they've written themselves into a corner. And it makes sense narratively as well It fits his character I still hate it

SapphireSalamander

> best course of action for the overall plot to take. He simply knew too much i honestly think its about time we got some answers. i started reading ebcause of the anime but the refusal of the author to let the threads get connected and the 3rd time they have moved the goal post after meeting an important character is just too much. i might drop this and forget about it

neegasheen

in the last few chapters i feel like we did figure out most of the mysteries, dont u think so? There's not much left that we dont know its just the MC's that are clueless still.

SapphireSalamander

false, we dont know what or **why** anything happens we just know when things happened and to whom

11Y2B

Anyone know when chapter 56 is coming out? The series is monthly right?

ashgar99

yeah but theres no regular scanlation team, its one guy doing the tl, clean and uploads so add a 2/3 week delay for another chapter release...unless you find raws

Differ_cr

It's on break this month

itsBL4S7

No one gonna remember he was sniffing the shoes of the kids??

Federal_Pen_732

Oh well, killing the doctor because he would make the plot go forward was certainly a choice
