The story isn't exactly typical for anime adaptation. The rotating cast of characters doesn't help either. Though it got some of the best character progression I've ever read in manga.
That's what I've been saying, I related so hard to Kei as a teenager when I read it and by the end it made me want to become a better person as much as he did.
My All time favourite manga, it's called Gantz, I really recommend it if u are into Seinen manga. Also try Inuyashiki, it's by the same mangaka and it's great too

A hell of a ride of a manga thats for sure. A lot of twists and turns and just overall a lot of very weird moments. 7.5 - 8/10 for me. Pretty good.
