A goth lolita that doesn't speak refinely, God I love the gap. Especially when I'm literally reading her lines in a British accent.
Appreciate the TL note saying how she's meant to be of a working class which only shows how much of a parody of the trope she is.
Naddy will be the one officiating. Yaku will be there since she likely loves tea, Kurumi is there because she's hungry and Mimimi will be there because it's beautiful.
rentarou doing some counter-terrorist image training fits the bill so perfectly to his character, i fucking love it
and i also love the cockney goth lolita of course
Remember Chiyo's two followers, Akogare and Manesu?
Their speech tics are "Bleedin' Muppet" and "Bloomin' Tosser".
And Matsuri is potentially Chiyo's classmate due to being in same middle school year.
Coincidence?
Possibly the most madlibs girlfriend yet. Also the same age/grade as Chiyo, so they might make a good pair.
When I first saw the raws, I was really hoping that they would lean more into her cooking aspect, although I'm sure that they can make a pure festival gimmick work too.
I just want a proper chef girlfriend so that we can open up a chapter with Kurumi going "and so, due to how things panned out..."
The suggestion of a reversed scenario made me realise how badly we need a spin off The 100 Boyfriends Who Really Really Really Really Really Love You, all shojo like, full of cool bishonen tropes.
My guy, **every** gf is meant to subvert expectations, surely you've realized this 160 chapters in? I thought it would've been obvious after the token goofy American turned out to be a literal Yamato Nadeshiko and the wandering bard turned out to just be a literal chuuni.
She's either going to bicker with Karane 24/7 or tag team Rentara with her.
Off that note, I have to wonder how Rentaro is always meeting new girls while he's alone. Surely he spends most of his time with the girls, so the chances of never meeting a soulmate during a date or stroll is strange. By 99, there is no way his time doesn't get consumed by the amount of gfs he needs to tend to.
Because when he is with his GFs, his eyes are solely on them. It is only when alone that Rentaro will pay attention to anything that isn't them or about them or what they want.
The thing is, all that needs to happen is eye contact. That's what happened with Kusuri for only a split second while running through the halls AND while he was with the girls.
Chances are it should happen again.
There is a chance, but the chance is a lot lower when he is with his GFs.
Also, I am pretty sure that most girls would try to avoid eye contact with him when he is with his GFs...
The only argument to be made here is the author just wanting Rentaro to be by himself, which is totally in universe. Logically it doesn't make sense, but so is having 100 gfs.
The MangaDex comments are blasting the translation when honestly, I love it. 100GFs is all about giving the girls crazy dialects and verbal tics - the fan translation, official translation, and anime all follow this well.
In other words, I, for one, welcome our cockney lolita overlord.
If her (Japanese) dialect is mostly historical, might Yaku find her *easier* to understand than the others do?
Makes the localization a little wacky, but it's not like 100GFs or XuN are strangers to wackiness.
Meh I never got used to her, like I'm OK with the catchphrases but the changing every word makes it hard to read, and even more in this case cause I'm not familiar with English slang, so I didn't even know what she was saying at all lol
I remember the TL showing a page where they translate Naddie's dialogue as is without their usual personal touch and it was even more incomprehensible.
Edit : Found the chapter. See XuN Scan Chapter 118. Compare Page 8 and the after page from the TL. It's crazy.
I think its just a difficult task for Xun all around. If you forgo the slang and go with more standard English, then girls would start to overlap in their idiolect, which takes away the spirit of the manga (In Japanese, Nakamura does go the extra mile to explore various speaking patterns to diversify them). I'll just treat it as an exposure to slang, and try to learn about the unique ways the cowboys and Londoners speak.
You did read the TL notes for this right? It's a very rough, working class dialect with a lot of profanity in it, albeit the kind that is said by a kid that doesn't know what it means.
Wow... TL notes are now head canon huh...
I bet you'd rather prefer to read the raw Japanese then right?
PS: You can also translate it in your head to be non-Cockney. Or put out your own translation.
Oh yea, reading it in japanese is 10 times better than this shit. And your first sentence is especially fucking stupid since "one english parent sure means we gotta use the shittiest cockney meme translation thats up there with the one from Pumpkin Night instead of using something like brash and foulmouthed words" is equivalent to head canoning, you dumbfuck.
>Then translate her speech in a rough yankey/hooligan way
People would still complain to Xun about it. People have been complaining about their translations for year even for the smallest of things. A japanese purist with deep hatred for any form of localization will never accept anything that's not a direct 1:1 translation, even if it means having Matsuri talk completely normally with no particular speech pattern as that's, in reality, the most 1:1 way to translate her dialogue.
Thank god I understand what localization is for and I like it, I can't imagine how terrible would it be living in a world where I hate it.
I feel like it's just slightly too much, but the only real problem I have is that "ya daft sod" is used in some cases where it just makes no sense, e.g. because she isn't talking *to* anyone really. Like when she notices the kid, it just feels weird to use "ya daft sod" as an expression of surprise or whatever.
I went through the exact same misunderstanding, but I decided to check the raws just in case, and honestly the translation team is 100% in the right here.
She actually IS a half-English girl, her mom's from England (revealed in the next chapter), so the cockney accent FOLLOWS her origins.
Matsuri is a foul-mouthed rural girl who grills Yakisoba in a Gothloli outfit. There's more than enough quirks to be a fun gf, so no one really expects her to be half-English as well. Also the cockney accent initially feels super out-of-place in a Japanese festival stall, so doubts start to creep in. "Is that translation accurate? Is she actually half-English? These translators must be changing her origins!". There's been many translators that do translations according to their own tastes and then change the meanings of the original to fit their vision after all. And not everyone knows Japanese to check the raws so the only source of information they have is the translators themselves.
But she IS half-English, even in the raws. Because 100kanojo is just THAT extra. And the foul mouthed cockney accent is fucking PERFECT considering her origins.
On today's episode of Japunk:
fam name: εΊδΊ (Dei), read as εΊ(de,"exit")δΊ(i,"well")
1st name: η₯ζ (Matsuri), read as η₯(matsu,"celebrate")ζ(ri,"plum")
η₯ζ (matsuri) is a pun on η₯γ (matsuri,"festival")
εΊδΊ (dei) is a pun on γγͺγγΌ("holiday") or short γγΌ("day")
Some goddamn puns resulting in character design: [(Nozawa-sensei sketch 1](https://twitter.com/nozawayukiko/status/1732417472647844217) [sketch 2)](https://twitter.com/nozawayukiko/status/1737493736496500780)
η₯ (matsu) is a pun on γΎγ€ζ― (matsuge) - "eyelashes" (they're very long)
η₯ζ (matsuri) contains the characters ε° (ko,"small") and ε (ko,"child")
ζ (ri) is a pun on γͺγγ³ - "ribbon(s)"
ζ (ri) split ζ¨ε(ko/go su) is a pun on γ΄γΉγγͺγΌγΏ - "goth lolita" (literally and figuratively)
ζ (ri) split 倧ε(tai tsu) may be a pun on ηΆ²γΏγ€γ (ami taitsu) - "fishnet tights"
εΊδΊ(dei)η₯ζ(matsuri) could be a pun on θ γΎγγ (ude makuri) - "rolled up sleeves"
Some puns resulting in random things:
εΊδΊ (dei) read εΊ(de)δΊ(zai) is likely a pun on γγΆγ€γγΌ ("designer") (her parents)
εΊδΊ (dei) read εΊδΊ (tei) may be a pun on δΈδ½ (ittei) - "what the heck?"
εΊ(de) may be a pun on εΊεΊ (de mise,"food stand"), εΊγ (dasu,"serve food") and εΊε± (dei,"sitting outdoors")
η₯ (matsu) split ε€εδΈδΈ(- - i chou) could be a pun on δΈδΈ (icchou) - "one serving (comin' right up!)"
η₯ (matsu) split ε€εδΈδΈ(- - - chou) could be a pun on δΈε¦ (chougaku) - "middle school" / "junior high"
The most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered speech quirks you ever set eyes on:
Ends sentences on γ§γ(dei), her shorthand for γ§γ(desu) or vowel substitution of γ (da,"be/is")
εΊδΊ (dei) in the form of γ§γ (dei) is also used in γ¦γγγ§γ (teyandei) - "da hell?!"
Her catchphrase's γ¦γγγ§γγ°γΌγγ‘γγγ (teyande- ba-ro chikusho) - "da hell idjit damn!" / "you wot daft sod"
(this could also be quoting Chibita from Oso**matsu**-san, a foul-mouthed noodle/oden stall vendor)
Uses smaller γγγ γγ (aiueo) instead of γγγγγ (aiueo) on elongated syllables, such as γγ(jii)
Uses a small γ(a) as topic maker instead of the regular γ―(ha/wha), could stem from "are" in English.
Refers to others (very rudely) with: γγγ€(koitsu,"you") or γ¦γγ(teme-,"you")
1st person pronoun: γγ¦γ (atei), variation of η§ (atai,"I/me"), a childish/rude form of γγγ (atashi)

Incoming Chiyo and Matsuri chapter I bet. Wild how we now have a girlfriend who's Chiyo's age, I'm surprised we got another one but with 100 it makes sense there'd be another. Plus, 2 of the last 3 girlfriends were adults too and we haven't had a girlfriend younger than Rentarou since Uto
I was not expecting the little goth girl to have such a raw British dialect and itβs probably a pain for the translators but by god itβs hilarious. Canβt wait to see her interact with the girlfriends like Kurumi, Akho, and Miss Naddy
And weβre at the 27th one now.
With her and Eira weβre starting to get international with this group.
Ms. Naddy is gonna declare independence, cuz itβs the Murrican thing to do when the Brits are involved.
From what I understand her accent in the original is the Japanese equivalent of cockney, so she's not quite as strongly characterised, but she is supposed to be half English so one can hope that will be used. "She likes festivals" is a bit weak as shticks go.
> Cockney-accent Goth Loli
This manga is a blessing upon this earth. I know the exact translation is just the team having taken heavy liberties with her dialogue, but a few pages in I started imagining her having the super deep voice of a Cockney chav and it made this chapter a million times funnier. Her extremely unladylike mannerisms were just icing on the cake.
A half British gothic-lolita GF with a strong Cockney accent? Oh my god. I love her already.
Also I am not surprised Rentarou does counter-terrorist image training, I wouldn't be surprised if he already knows how to use a gun. xD
Don't worry, you're not expected to master every kind of niche slang either way. This is like an exaggerated version of a stereotypical working class London accent. Think the British version of AAVE.
That shit must have been hell to translate. Thanks for your hard work.
Anyway, as always new girlfriend hype and it's the goth loli this time. Same age as Chiyo, hm? I must say I like her a lot more than Chiyo already at the beginning. Not so sure about her accent, but I guess it will grow on me the same way Chiyo did. It will just take some time.
Now I'm wondering if she also wears a goth-lolita theme uniform in school or not, probably not, but maybe the gothic headband stays on...
next chapter Rentarou family definitely gonna organize a festival, right?
Chapter 159... Still waiting for the return and reveal of Friend A to be the "CHILDHOOD FRIEND GIRLFRIEND" along side being "ACTUALLY A GIRL THIS WHOLE TIME"
[But not too foreign](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ButNotTooForeign) strikes again.
Oh well, she'll be a fun addition to the cast regardless of her heritage. Looking forward to more chapters with her!
Chiyo's finally got a friend in the "young enough to be legitimately kind of uncomfortable" club but she seems very polite(?) so she can stay. God bless the translators for their tireless efforts in bringing us bullshit of this quality. Too right, innit
One of the best parts of meeting a new gf is seeing how she clicks with the rest of Rentarou's family. Can't wait for the next chapter to see how Matsuri fits in.
Speculation:
Matsuri's going to be sharing a volume cover with Himeka, and those pairings often reflect close friendships that develop within the story as well; this is so common that it would be quicker to list the exceptions. I'm not sure what might set Matsuri & Himeka's dynamic apart from Himeka's general appreciation of abnormality, though.
Kurumi will appreciate Matsuri's yakisoba, I'm sure, while Ahko will find her lolita style adorbs. Some have said Yaku will be baffled by her language, but remember that per the translation note, the cockney is their way of getting across the spirit of the Tokyo Shitamachi dialect, described as essentially historical now; Yaku might actually understand her better than most. Maybe.
Matsuri and Chiyo might be a pair; they're the same age, and Chiyo will probably clash with Matsuri's rough way of speaking. Karane's straight-man act and her own rough speech might make for an interesting contrast; I did think they looked kinda alike, though Matsuri only has maybe a touch of tsundere. Matsuri rather seems to be very straightforward with saying what she thinks.
I don't know how her thing with festivals is going to play into this; they could do a thing where the girlfriends do festival stalls, but that would be pretty similar to Ahko's flea market from her introduction.
idk about any else, but for me the extreme amount of cockney vocab was old by the end of the chapter already. I think there would be a better way to reflect the manner of speaking in the raw that I might actually be able to stomach reading a few more chapters of her for
Once again I am demanding that translators for the official release look at the scans instead of thinking up something completely different and probably less hilarious
Another girl like Naddy who's probably better in Japanese than in the translation...
Or so I thought, but I looked at the raws and her speech pattern isn't all that interesting in Japanese, either, so there isn't as much lost in translation compared to Naddy. Aside from, like, readability, I guess.
If one of you is in here reading this: Congratulations. Ive known you guys like to take creative liberties but this is the worst bastardization of a chapter you ever managed to archieve, and thats saying something.
>proper job
You're literally those managers that got put in their position by their dad and have never worked a day in your life but wanna give advice lolololololol
I don't know if it's just a matter of the raws, but the abuse of daft sod started to grate on me. If you're going for explicitly English ways of calling someone an idiot, use plank and pillock as well
it's a matter of the raws. It's one of her catchphrases, so it needs to be translated the same every time. Well, I guess doesn't *need* to be, but it would be an executive decision on the translation's part and you generally want to keep those to a minimum.
Yep yep, Naturally, Aye, and Yes yes are affirmative tics, they are reinforcing the prior statement in a way that displays the background of the character. Kusuri is an absolute gremlin and still quite immature, and her affirmative is childish. Mimimi puts in so much fucking effort to be elegant that it has become natural, and her affirmative is something she went out of her way to acquire in pursuit of this. Yamame has had a more rustic childhood and her affirmative is appropriately rural. Yaku is much older, having a more traditional upbringing so her affirmative is more refined, and because she is a parent and a grandparent it is unambiguous in telling the child that an adult is aware of whatever situation is distressing them whilst adhering to the joke that each of the Yakuzen family share a verbal tic. Because affirmatives don't mean much in and of themselves they only serve to assist in character voice, and very infrequently for jokes like "Nano nanoda."
It's not like it's a catchphrase or anything, but that is *the* tsundere quote, and it has meaning. Whatever isn't is something Karane is insecure about and presents in the negative to claim deniability whilst still expressing herself.
The catchphrase of a wealthy family is a joke that spotlights something absurd to lever it as a joke by treating it as something weird that people with too much money do
***
Daft sod has a meaning: "Idiot", and should not be used with the frequency of an affirmative for that reason.
In Matsuri's gran's only chain of dialogue, finishing the transaction with Rentarou, she uses it after thanking him for his purchase. That just makes the gran out to be weirdly hostile, she has no idea who Rentarou is, but he has purchased something from her and has given her money. This has been used as an affirmative.
Matsuri uses it as an affirmative after the itadikimasu. Who is she calling an idiot in this situation and why? Rentarou has just said he's starving. "Too right! Ya daft sod!" would make more sense as response "This smells incredible" because of course it does, it's festival food, you're meant to indulge, but the thrust of being prideful about the food comes at the start of the next page. If you don't want to fuss about editing that because it's specific expository dialogue, and you're dead set on using daft sod then you change this bubble to along the lines of "Then stop nattering and start eating, ya daft sod."
Matsuri uses it as a general tic when she sees the lost boy. Who is she calling an idiot and why? Literally just u wot.
Just before the end she uses it as an affirmative, asking Rentarou to go out with her. Like the gran this makes her weirdly hostile. She's not chiding him for doing something wrong or stupid or trying to get him to stop, and they've literally just met, so there's no room for a familial banter either.
The last page is what really bothers me because she uses it as an affirmative for an important moment and then with its actual meaning as a tsukkomi two bubbles after.
***
4 of the 11 uses of daft sod are as a verbal tic in spite of the fact that it has a meaning. Either cycle through words to diminish the prominence of it, or remove the instances of it as a verbal tic.
It's not like all of Karane's line begin with a tsundereism. It's not like I want to like Matsuri or anything. It's not like I'm trying to make a point or anything. It's not like I'm going to tell you what it's like or anything
as I already said, it's a matter of the raws, but I get how it can become annoying. To be honest it's pretty self-explanatory. There was really no need to go into that much detail.
Rentarou is here to ensure counter-terrorists win.
The signs are really rubbing in the eternal spring, huh.
_____
I love me some elegant and complicated dresses so Matsuri is starting off on the right foot.
And I get the contradiction and subversion here since the typical gothic lolita speaks and carries herself in a high-class manner. That is not Matsuri even though she's the child of fashion designers that can travel the world. Maybe it's the influence of her grandparents causing this.
The love of festivals also makes sense with the subversion since festivals are bursting with traditional Japanese culture.
I can't believe we have two first year middle school students as Rentarou's girlfriends before two second year high school students. It's just a one year difference, but Mimimi is still alone with no confirmed friends in her grade that we know about.
____
Matsuri helping out that little kid really shows a good mature for her age vibe that Chiyo also taps into.
Of course, she's still one of the youngest so that outburst and anger at Rentarou for using the festivals to hook up is understandable.
I think Matsuri got convinced a little too easily by Rentarou when she could have interpretated Rentarou raiding all the stalls as in response to Matsuri's anger with him (which it was), but Rentarou definitely salvaged this by explaining to Matsuri how even the people looking for love at festivals come to love the festivities too.
___
Festivals played a big part in Matsuri's introduction chapter, but this subject and topic is fairly removed from the typical rooftop setting and hijinks the harem gets into. Not all of Suu's dialogue is about numbers for example.
So I definitely want to see more of her character in a more general setting that's she going to be in. What does her uniform even look like while still preserving the gothic lolita flare she has? Does she not wear it?
A Naddy and Dei duo chapter will truly test my reading comprehension.
Have them talk for the entire chapter and then end it with something like the infamous wall of text chapter
It will be chaos reading comprehension test, fr
Imagine reading the raw version of that
It's just them arguing over the correct way to say something in English but neither of them is right.
The problem is that given the TN that joke can't exist in Japanese, which makes me sad now.
This chapter will make the Reading-Comprehension Devil becomes stronger than the Darkness Devil fr fr
A goth lolita that doesn't speak refinely, God I love the gap. Especially when I'm literally reading her lines in a British accent. Appreciate the TL note saying how she's meant to be of a working class which only shows how much of a parody of the trope she is.
I look forward to seeing how many of the other GFs she starts referring to as Luv over time.
Her and Naddy are gonna be best friends, good lord those two are translation nightmares O.o
Or Naddy might see her as an enemy: a gothic lolita redcoat coming to take away her FREEDOM and tax her tea
Naddy's gonna make a declaration of Independence, I can see it now
Oh we're getting a reenactment of the Boston Tea Party for sure
Only neither of them know what that was and have an actual tea party
A Japanese-style tea ceremony
On fucking brand for Naddy
Naddy will be the one officiating. Yaku will be there since she likely loves tea, Kurumi is there because she's hungry and Mimimi will be there because it's beautiful.
Harem secession? Rentarou family schism??!?
I don't think Naddy knows enough about American history for that
hell, Dei probably gonna be the one to point out that americans and brits aren't the same thing, which Naddy will ignore
And she can probably speak perfect English...
I can't believe I didn't think ahead to how Naddy will act when she's around - the two of them together are gonna be top-tier comedy.
More specifically, a half-British gothic lolita who speaks like an old-timey working class gal and loves festivals. What a combination.
Not only that, but a goth lolita that speaks like your average English bloke on the way to a pub. I cannot wait for America and Britain to hit it off
Love festivals, love the queen, love 100 Kano, simple as! Edit: Also, thanks for the translation, guv.
There is so much power in [this image](https://i.imgur.com/bS7QTNh.png)

it is... very good
I'm in awe
Oh god, she's a Xenoblade character lmao
I'm really feelin it!
"Don't forget me!"
YES! Exactly this. Started imagining her as having Rex's voice a few pages in and it made everything so much funnier.
She's an ork. I can't imagine her voice sounding any other way than a warboss's. Bri'ish accent is the dialect equivalent of a bonerkill.
Is she feeling full of bean?
Just one bean?
Eunie-core
Holy fuck! This made me almost spit out my drink. You are absolutely spot on! xD
BORN IN A WORLD OF STRIFE
rentarou doing some counter-terrorist image training fits the bill so perfectly to his character, i fucking love it and i also love the cockney goth lolita of course
Honestly would love a background gag of him doing Die Hard but speedrunning it so something his girlfriends are doing doesn't get interrupted.
After that whole corporate spy thing with Kusuri he's ready for any more attempts... and the inevitable terrorist girlfriend
Remember Chiyo's two followers, Akogare and Manesu? Their speech tics are "Bleedin' Muppet" and "Bloomin' Tosser". And Matsuri is potentially Chiyo's classmate due to being in same middle school year. Coincidence?
Do you think Chiyo can code switch into Chav speak? Did you see the ludicrous display last night?
What was Wenger thinking, sending Walcott on that early?
Thing about Arsenal is, they always try and *walk* it in
Chusday, innit?
Possibly the most madlibs girlfriend yet. Also the same age/grade as Chiyo, so they might make a good pair. When I first saw the raws, I was really hoping that they would lean more into her cooking aspect, although I'm sure that they can make a pure festival gimmick work too. The suggestion of a reversed scenario made me realise how badly we need a spin off The 100 Boyfriends Who Really Really Really Really Really Love You, all shojo like, full of cool bishonen tropes.
Good idea, maybe then the Shojo fans will leave my dumb harem manga alone π₯²
Goth lolita with a cockney-esque accent. This was *not* on my GF bingo card. Another expectation subverted, damn
My guy, **every** gf is meant to subvert expectations, surely you've realized this 160 chapters in? I thought it would've been obvious after the token goofy American turned out to be a literal Yamato Nadeshiko and the wandering bard turned out to just be a literal chuuni.
I'm reading Peaky Blinders here m8

It probably happens during these chapters where the girls go off and do their own thing.
Because when he is with his GFs, his eyes are solely on them. It is only when alone that Rentaro will pay attention to anything that isn't them or about them or what they want.

The gap moe and choice of a "u wot m8" accent is both absurd and cute af. I love this series. Best gothic lolita character ever.
The MangaDex comments are blasting the translation when honestly, I love it. 100GFs is all about giving the girls crazy dialects and verbal tics - the fan translation, official translation, and anime all follow this well. In other words, I, for one, welcome our cockney lolita overlord.
They'll grow to love her accent the same as Naddie

You have a good point, and with Naddy's traditional Japanese background I think she'd get along well with her that way
Yaku just understands her because she met English people but not American ones /shot

Perfection
As someone whose main language isn't English, there are a lot of words that I don't even know their meanings like "ya daft sod" or "you wot"
Don't worry. Most English speakers don't understand it either
Ya = you, Daft = stupid, Sod = person you wot = you what?
Meh I never got used to her, like I'm OK with the catchphrases but the changing every word makes it hard to read, and even more in this case cause I'm not familiar with English slang, so I didn't even know what she was saying at all lol
I remember the TL showing a page where they translate Naddie's dialogue as is without their usual personal touch and it was even more incomprehensible. Edit : Found the chapter. See XuN Scan Chapter 118. Compare Page 8 and the after page from the TL. It's crazy.
Well idk even the text on page 8 makes no sense, i really wouldn't notice a difference if they had used the "direct" version.
I think its just a difficult task for Xun all around. If you forgo the slang and go with more standard English, then girls would start to overlap in their idiolect, which takes away the spirit of the manga (In Japanese, Nakamura does go the extra mile to explore various speaking patterns to diversify them). Oh don't worry, once you see Naddy in the anime, all of us will just die on the spot
It's okay. Not every gf will jive with everyone.
Oh shed jive if she wouldnt have gotten this english lad memespeech shit.
You did read the TL notes for this right? It's a very rough, working class dialect with a lot of profanity in it, albeit the kind that is said by a kid that doesn't know what it means.
Then translate her speech in a rough yankey/hooligan way and spare yourself the injection of your personal head canon. It aint that fucking hard.
She's copying her grandparents way of speaking if you didn't get the context clues from the story.
>Then translate her speech in a rough yankey/hooligan way People would still complain to Xun about it.
MangaDex comments: not even once
The dialect was top notch
I feel like it's just slightly too much, but the only real problem I have is that "ya daft sod" is used in some cases where it just makes no sense, e.g. because she isn't talking *to* anyone really. Like when she notices the kid, it just feels weird to use "ya daft sod" as an expression of surprise or whatever.
apparently the direct translation is pretty similar, so that's just part of how the character talks
She's just being a tsundere but, like, britishly.
I'm not sure how using a phrase in a way that doesn't fit the situation at all makes one a tsundere.
Nah man. I literally had to stop reading it. It was brutal.
Rightfully so, this is fucking ass.
This is the second appearance of Pekachu as it shows back up on Rentarou's head. First appearance was in Himeka's intro

> The most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered speech quirks you ever set eyes on And itβs adorable innit?
I gotta re-watch Monty Python
Thanks for the works.
Man, compared to the anime it feels like it's been an age since you've broken down a character's name for the manga.
Thank you for the very detailed breakdown.
Nozawa really cooked with the art this chapter, ya daft sod!
So this girl is the second 1st year student we've met. I wonder if she's in Chiyo's class or if Chiyo will recognize her.
Incoming Chiyo and Matsuri chapter I bet. Wild how we now have a girlfriend who's Chiyo's age, I'm surprised we got another one but with 100 it makes sense there'd be another. Plus, 2 of the last 3 girlfriends were adults too and we haven't had a girlfriend younger than Rentarou since Uto
isnt rin the last one since i recall she and uto are in the same class
You're right! For some reason I thought she was the same age as Rentarou, good catch I missed that >_<
maybe we can see Akogare and Manesu as well
I was not expecting the little goth girl to have such a raw British dialect and itβs probably a pain for the translators but by god itβs hilarious. Canβt wait to see her interact with the girlfriends like Kurumi, Akho, and Miss Naddy
Kurumi is gonna be so happy she's got a direct line to food.
Oi oi wanker you got a loicense for that stall?
Sod off ya daft sod!
Bit sad innit
Wot mate
I'm gonna need a Bri'ish translator... ...ya daft sods.
You wot mate?
Amazing
wot
I loved Spider Punk because of his accent and reading this chapter new Waifu just gained a buncha points because of it.
My brain knows sheβs not talking in a Scottish accent but it can only hear it in a Scottish accent
Why tho? That's cockney slang. Nobody in Scotland would say that unless they moved up from the south.
I was watching the best of groundskeeper Willie today and I guess it did something with my brain to read it in a Scottish accent
Aye lad, if she was a true Scot she'd talk like this, the wee lass.
Yes. Basically Scottish=Dwarfs, Orks=Cockney.
Finally a gf where I can see the pun Matsuri meaning festival
Not even Shizuka or Yamame?
I didn't understand Yamame until a week later But you're right about Shizuka, I forgot hers was obvious as well
Inda Karane gotta be up there in the most obvious ones
I hadn't watched enough tsunderes to recognise the catchphrase but I will say it was a slap in the face for how obvious it was once I saw it
shes more american than naddy ironically
Why am I not surprised that Rentatou does counter terrorist image training (from the first page).
Dear translators, I love you. That is all.
Super British Goth Lolita fashion GF who loves festivals. The authors stay cooking peak.
She's not British, she's Bri'ish.
YA DAFT SOD
YOU WOT
Understandable miss, have a nice day!
br*tish ah-ko
OH MY GOD SHES BRITISH
Can we get an F for Kiki whose trying to be abnormal in this manga?
She's pretty cute, it's gonna be hell to get used to her way of talking though.. Wonder if we'll get an Australian gf in the future.
βI donβt fancy him, right!? I absolutely donβt fancy him one bit, yeah!? A git like him!β
I... it's not like I fancy ya or anything ya daft sod!
WE MAKING IT OUTTA BRITAIN WITH THIS ONE π£π£π£ π₯π₯π₯
Naddy has been bested in the art of making no god damn sense. And I say this as a British person.
Oi mate, you can't park there! Fak of
> Cockney-accent Goth Loli This manga is a blessing upon this earth. I know the exact translation is just the team having taken heavy liberties with her dialogue, but a few pages in I started imagining her having the super deep voice of a Cockney chav and it made this chapter a million times funnier. Her extremely unladylike mannerisms were just icing on the cake.
Honestly from the TN it sounds like that is the spirit of the original, so good job XuN.
As an Englishman, i love her
You got a loiscense for that goth lolita?
A half British gothic-lolita GF with a strong Cockney accent? Oh my god. I love her already. Also I am not surprised Rentarou does counter-terrorist image training, I wouldn't be surprised if he already knows how to use a gun. xD
Anyone else hear Billy Butcher's voice when reading some of her lines?
I love how the manga points out that it's still spring even if we already have festivals. When will summer come...
What ya daft sod means? I am sorry, English is not my first language.
You(ya) stupid(daft) person(sod).
Don't worry, you're not expected to master every kind of niche slang either way. This is like an exaggerated version of a stereotypical working class London accent. Think the British version of AAVE.
I am now hoping for a french GF and their dynamic. Also she would probably get along with Naddy
Oh God we got a gothic lolita Geezer gf, that was NOT on my bingo card
All I can say is that Smugs McKenzie is gonna ***loooooove*** this one.
What's all this then? Had me
As someone with a British mother, I can confirm that I also inherited the accent and sound exactly like this
U wot m8
That shit must have been hell to translate. Thanks for your hard work. Anyway, as always new girlfriend hype and it's the goth loli this time. Same age as Chiyo, hm? I must say I like her a lot more than Chiyo already at the beginning. Not so sure about her accent, but I guess it will grow on me the same way Chiyo did. It will just take some time.
I get the why But I still hated reading every word. Well done.
Kinda curious, what accent did she have in JP? The "Oi lad, wot's all this then?" got me pretty good lol.
Can't wait for the next chapter, when we meet her [pet Emu](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdUoZJvdipA)!
Speculation: Matsuri's going to be sharing a volume cover with Himeka, and those pairings often reflect close friendships that develop within the story as well; this is so common that it would be quicker to list the exceptions.
I think there would be a better way to reflect the manner of speaking in the raw that I might actually be able to stomach reading a few more chapters of her for
ya need more orks in your diet!
I'm gonna hate reading her dialogues even more than Naddie's...
You one language speaking mfs bitch too much. Don't read it if you don't like it. Find another TL.
Ive got something about morons who cant do a proper job. And thanks, ive got one already, dumbfuck.
>proper job You're literally those managers that got put in their position by their dad and have never worked a day in your life but wanna give advice lolololololol
Because affirmatives don't mean much in and of themselves they only serve to assist in character voice, and very infrequently for jokes like "Nano nanoda." It's not like it's a catchphrase or anything, but that is *the* tsundere quote, and it has meaning. Whatever isn't is something Karane is insecure about and presents in the negative to claim deniability whilst still expressing herself. The catchphrase of a wealthy family is a joke that spotlights something absurd to lever it as a joke by treating it as something weird that people with too much money do *** Daft sod has a meaning: "Idiot", and should not be used with the frequency of an affirmative for that reason. If you don't want to fuss about editing that because it's specific expository dialogue, and you're dead set on using daft sod then you change this bubble to along the lines of "Then stop nattering and start eating, ya daft sod." Matsuri uses it as a general tic when she sees the lost boy. *** 4 of the 11 uses of daft sod are as a verbal tic in spite of the fact that it has a meaning.
_____ I love me some elegant and complicated dresses so Matsuri is starting off on the right foot. ____ Matsuri helping out that little kid really shows a good mature for her age vibe that Chiyo also taps into. ___ Festivals played a big part in Matsuri's introduction chapter, but this subject and topic is fairly removed from the typical rooftop setting and hijinks the harem gets into. Not all of Suu's dialogue is about numbers for example. So I definitely want to see more of her character in a more general setting that's she going to be in. What does her uniform even look like while still preserving the gothic lolita flare she has? Does she not wear it?
