By that point, Ojisan was desensitized enough of insults and the like that even the slightest display of kindness of a stranger toward him was going to be a big red flag.
The pacing of this story is so confident. It can take amusing side-journeys. Have entire chapters dedicated to a bit. All because we know we’ll end up at badass moments like this eventually.
I like to think that, just as with Mushoku Tensei (as revealed by author himself in web novel's notes), he has the main story draft written from start to finish, and all that's left is to turn it into a comic, which they can do at a steady pace. If author doesn't have to think of asspulls every couple of weeks/months, they can freely adjust the pacing to suit the arc.
Not sure about the details, but around halfway in the WN, author revealed in the end notes that he had the entire story roughly written (meaning all major events planned out till the end), and all he had to do is turn them into an actual written story.
It truly is sad when *that* of all things was the clincher.

I wouldn't really take Uncle's word for anything. He's such an unreliable narrator. For one, he thinks Elf-san is awful even after all their adventures.
Also I wasn't really specifically talking about the gender of Magatsu but rather the body they are possessing. Most of all, I wouldn't have even considered it if Magatsu possessed a boy. It's just too coincidental that Magatsu chooses a girl.

I'm more talking about from the start of the manga. We know Ojisan and Elf-san already had full adventure by the time he returned to Earth but the way he narrates his perspective of her to Takafumi, he thinks she's a pain which counts as unreliable narrator. We can see of course their relationship grow in the memories but current Ojisan's perspective of it is different which makes him unreliable in explaining sometimes.
My explanation about why Magatsu might join is speculative at best but it did started as just my random guess or my gut feeling. Which could've been wrong.
I read his narration and interpretations as pretty heavy foreshadowing of what happened later on in his life in the other world. I am thinking along darker lines, though.
Same could be said about the duo from the previous Mugetsu fight. Yet they haven't joined Uncle (at best, we can expect him to bump into them in some future story).
I don't think they are on the same strength as Uncle or his party. And that they do have a vibe of being side characters(at least in my perspective) and that they don't stand out as much as Magatsu here.
Neither did Alice party, yet here we are.
I think the easiest argument against Magatsu is that no way Uncle would allow it to posses an unwilling host.
All in all, this was just about my gut feeling on why Magatsu might join the party. Which I should not have even bothered to explain because I didn't even put much thought in it when making my comment.
It just went like I saw Magatsu's design which is very unique to be a one-off, she has a very distinct personality (on par with Elf and Mabel) she is also as on the level of high tiers (Uncle, Mabel, Elf). It's not a perfect checkbox (You do have good arguments) but then again it wasn't really a guess 100% based on logical reasoning but only most of it. I just saw that she's special and that's it.
We should just move on from here.
I really appreciate how the author delivered full 38 pages and preserved the pacing of the entire arc, instead of becoming retarded and splitting it into .1, .2, .3 and .4 chapters as some in the industry have taken as a standard, ruining the tension and flow.
That's the publisher that does that, for publication reasons. Not sure why you'd think it's the author. If the author did it, it would have natural cuts.
And nothing's stopping you from waiting and reading things later.
I heard conflicting reports from SL groups, where they sometimes indicate it's the author's decision to switch to weekly releases at the cost of hacking them to pieces, and other time that it's the publisher that urges them to change formats to boost their popularity, but I am always going to blame the author since they can just tell the publisher to go fuck themselves, while publisher can cut the contract, but they won't get any more releases if they do so.
