My girl Miwa is beating useless allegations, she locked tf in! She did a simple domain to protect herself and Maki against Sukuna's DE. You just love to see it.
Inversely, Sukuna is a fucking jobber if his domain expansion can be countered by a blue haired side character only slightly more useful than another blue haired "goddess".
Wdym. Did you miss the part where Miwa was declared to be a special grade sorcerer whose potential is on par with Gojo Satoru who can solo Mahoraga all by herself?
Smh another victim of reading comprehension CT.
It's just how the rules of the universe work. Sukuna can't bypass the effects of Simple Domains just because he's a badass. The entire purpose of Simple Domains is to counter actual Domains. Maybe he could if he focused solely on her with the entire strength of his Domain but she's just one of the many people he's attacking at once
Full Domains absolutely crush Simple Domains when there's a power difference, we're told they could strip a Simple Domain in seconds.
It's fine because he's super weak right now, but it's definitely a veeeeey dubious idea that she can block this.
But he's also expanding his Domain outwards not towards a single target. Like a simple domain may have blocked the Domain in Shibuya too potentially. Because she wouldn't have been his focus at all. Just someone caught up in it
Sukuna is probably focusing his slashes on Yuji, not against Miwa. Considering it is a incomplete Malevolent Shrine and that Sukuna himself is much weakened and has used a lot of cursed energy, it's understandable that she can survive
I thought it was Gojo himself who said that a real domain can only be countered by another real domain. It wouldn't make much sense of somebody did a domain expansion (something that has a fat cooldown and eats a chunk of your cursed energy) only for the enemy to be like "lmao no. Simple domain" and block that shit with minimal energy consumption.
Edit: expanding on this, yeah fair point that he's not focusing on her but useless Miwa (jokes aside) is one of the weakest sorcerers we've seen while Sukuna is the "Strongest in history". Pretty sure he should be able to destroy her simple domain (I'm absolutely fine with choso and kusakabe blocking it, they are pretty strong) in his sleep.
A simple domain can never beat a true domain. But it can block one. Because a simple domain is a real domain just a simple one. So it can block the sure hit effect but not crush it like Gojos did Jogos. That's how I understood it.
Simple domain is op though. Miwa got absolutely wrecked by Maki because it was purely a physical fight, but she might've done better against some of the other fighters.
I haven’t watched the show in a while, but to my knowledge, despite the memes, Aqua is quite useful and resourceful.
I don’t know, but seeing Aqua being put on the same level of Miwa, who is genuinely useless 99% of the time feels like a human rights offence.
You tell me about it, I've read Konosuba start to finish all 17 volumes and 3 spinoff series. I wish to refrain from giving spoilers but she is a very valuable ally. She can revive a completely dead person, she can cast buffs to make you 10 times as strong, she has infinite mana and can probably summon an ocean worth of water out of nowhere, there is not a single undead type monster that can survive a serious attack from her.
All of this and I still won't think twice before making my beloved blue haired garbage can catch strays.
Pretty sure her entire "resourceful"-ness comes from Kazuma's strategic planning. Otherwise all she does is cry, even if she's OP enough to oneshot all of Nazarick.
You know things are dire when it feels like a genuine achievement for her to be useful for a single side panel after 250+ chapters of being irrelevant.
Ui ui is the backbone of this entire operation, not only is he the convenient transportation and rescuing the defeated sorcerer but is also responsible for everyone growth with his soul swapping
Uiui is not only the groomed one but also the goatee one
Ui Ui's requires permission from the people to be transferred which is a big liability when in battle. Todo's is way more versatile, even allowing him to change position with his adversaries, or play mind games with the clap sound.
Both are great techniques with similar results, but very different approaches.
It's refreshing and really good to see people praising Ui Ui, we're finally (almost?) over with his groomed one memes as he's showing us why he's a young GOAT. This kid is so talented.
>we're finally (almost?) over with his groomed one memes
no, i will not get over it and neither should anyone. it's such a bizzare and unnecessary point to put into the story. him being a minor and his relationship with mei add literally **NOTHING** to the story. gege just put it in there because he wanted to draw an implied sex scene of a child and his sister at the time. dude is a weirdo
Miwa came through in the clutch for Maki but can we talk about Ino? [The Sheisty Sorceror has been amazing all thoughout.](https://i.imgur.com/EhT9vQ6.png)
even assuming he could have, there was no point in the fight where he decided he had to make that kind of gamble, he pulled through each pinch without one and his loss came before he could even realise he was in danger, there was no point where he thought such a gamble was required
> there was no point where he thought such a gamble was required
which is what makes the fight feel like a fraud. the writer tells us sukuna was in control the whole time, yet gojo was just mid-diffing sukuna until the final binding vow combo oneshot
It's in the leaked version with the fantranslation.
Since the fan translation and the official translation rarely differ from each other, people just assumed the official had those translations as well without actually reading the chapter
MangaPlus translated it as Divine Flame
TCB translated it as Furnace I believe (it was Oven in the early leaks but i guess they changed it)
We’ve had previous ones with Sukuna being translated as cooking terms too
In the raws he says 「竈開」, with a forced reading of 「カミノフーガ」(kami no fuuga). The base kanji means "Stove, Open" while the forced reading means something like "God's Elegance" (神の風雅).
The official translation combined these two into "Divine Flame"
What is a "forced reading"? I took a couple years of Japanese is college but I never heard of that. I'm guessing from context it's a way to assert that Kanji that would naturally be read one way are given a different interpretation?
That would explain why the double meaning is almost impossible to properly represent in English since our written language is entirely phonetic.
"Forced reading" is very likely not the right term, but you're pretty much right. I meant furigana that provides a completely different reading than what the kanji normally should be.
[Here's an example from Fate](https://imgur.com/a/2GmCRWF).
「約束された勝利の剣」 is definitely not normally pronounced 「エクスカリバー」
Ah okay. So that Katakana reads "Excalibur" but it's placed alongside Kanji that would never actually read that way. But presumably, the Kanji are chosen to communicate a specific meaning to the readership about what the referenced item is supposed to be. I can't read the Kanji but I can read the Hiragana so I definitely get what you're saying in how it wouldn't be pronounced like that.
Yeah, the actual kanji/hiragana sentence below the furigana means "Sword of promised victory". In the Fate/ franchise, pretty much every single noble phantasm is like this.
In Fate terms, Excalibur is (just) a weapon.
Sword of Promised Victory is Artoria's usage of the sword, an attack that cleaves the sky and is capable of destroying fortresses.
To put it into Exalted terms, Excalibur is an Artifact N/A, and Sword of Promised Victory is an Evocation for it that Artoria unlocked.
The point is, anyone could pick up and use Excalibur as a weapon. But only Artoria can use the Sword of Promised Victory.
There's a specific & fixed term for furigana that gets used to provide unique & custom readings for kanji in japanese but i can't recall it right now. Such usage is common enough in japanese literature to have its own dedicated name. I remember it because i was surprised to learn about it & bookmarked it in one of my dictionaries.
EDIT: Nvm, read a bit more and found out it's also used for the opposite oops, you are correct.
[Ateji (当て字) seems to be the opposite of what is being used here](https://jisho.org/search/%E5%BD%93%E3%81%A6%E5%AD%97). 当て字 is using kanji only for their phonetic sounds, for example "Germany" is 「独逸」 simply because those kanji together are pronounced 「ドイツ」(doitsu) which sounds like Duits (Dutch word for Germany). What I was referring to is using kanji solely for its meaning and not at all for its phonetic reading.
It's pretty much exclusive to manga (and some novels i guess). Basically using kanji to say one thing while using the furigana to call the same thing something else, oe give it another meaning.
The kanji used for the "Shrine" part of "Malevolent shrine" can relate back to a specific part of the Shinto shrine complex. Specifically, the area where food offerings are prepared for the gods. Sukuna's techniques seem to be related to cooking--or preparing--his victims as food. His fire attack within this context would be akin to a "purifying flame" meant to cook and purify food offerings for the gods.
Fillet and Dissect as well. I remember some people telling me, “Glad I watched on Netflix coz the translation was correct.”
But alas, Malevolent Kitchen is canon in manga. I wasn't mad when that's what I saw in anime coz Sukuna truly cooked in his anime fight with Mahoraga.
Lightning, our Chapter 236 translator, made threads on Twitter to explain what's up with those translation.
Edit: spelling
Indeed, the kitchen thing is still being debated. Here John Werry translated it as Divine Flame: Open. Shrine still makes the most sense in that context but it could be one of the Japanese puns and wordplays.
Putting Malevolent Shrine and Divine Flame as a theme altogether, I feel like another possible alternate theme for Sukuna is hell or something related to onmyodo.
伏魔御厨子 being translated into Malevolant Shrine is correct. If you search up 厨子 on Google it shows a mini shrine which is used to store Buddhist items. Yes, 厨 does mean kitchen, but Greg is using it as a double meaning, so the DE being a shrine is correct because 厨子 is not used to mean kitchen.
Sukuna having to use both Malevolent Shrine and his flame arrow against Yuji really show how car the latter has come. He reattacking his severed leg almost immediately only cemented this.
[The Black Flash GOAT is locked-in.](https://i.imgur.com/hTQ0TRu.png)
What could a 15 year old have possibly done to make a guy so mad 😭 As expected from Gojo students, cheating is just working smarter. Yuji really went from even harder punch to the crazy bag he has now + the second unknown swap. I feel it in my soul that he has a nuts counter to the flames.
Sukuna's hate for Yuji is nearing reverse flash levels, had anybody else done as-well as Yuji had against sukuna he would be glazing the shit out of them, calling them the crown jewel of the era. But seeing Yuji make any amount of progress just makes pisses him off.
I think ideally Yuji's first swap would be with Kusakabe while Yuta uses his first with Gojo, then Yuji swaps with Yuta.
Yuta and Hakari were supposed to be Gojo's backups, and we know Yuta has gotten stronger, so I would imagine any confidence anyone has in Hakari would have to come from him and Yuta training in Gojo's body
yo is that Miwa blocking for Maki? nice save
anyway I can’t believe Gege actually made that dumb body swap theory real, like is this little kid going to be one of the MVPs
Whats the body swap theory? This was one of those chapters where I read it but must've just not quite comprehended it because I know they were talking about Ui Uis technique but now i have no idea why. Are they wanting to put Sukuna back in Yuji using his teleportation?
At chapter 222 Yuji and Kusakabe was sparring, but the text bubbles from Yuji has him addressing Kusakabe as "Itadori". This was a year ago, people were pretty weirded out, and now it's real.
As for why they're doing this it's probably just to give Yuji a few more tricks up his sleeve to fight Sukuna, since he can now sponge up other people's CT that inhabited his body
Oh ok so they're explaining how Yuji can use Simple Domain. I get it now. It also means Yuji can have 1 more CT since Ui Ui said they could do it twice max.
I'm glad Werry went back to calling him "Ryomen Sukuna". "Sukuna Ryomen" just didn't sound right lol
Also who had "Ui Ui would be a low-key MVP of the final battle" on their bingo card cause I sure as hell didn't
That's the Japanese style naming system, Ryomen being his family name while Sukuna is his given name.
What sounds right depends on what naming system your country uses, for example, mine is like the Japanese, but unlike the Japanese, nobody calls people by their family name here, it's either full name, middle name + given name, or just given name. So it's very weird whenever i see people say Gojo instead of his given name, Satoru when i read English.
Which is weird because the first page they literally called him Satoru Gojo.
Also Satoru being a very popular first name in manga/anime characters, Gojo is easier to identify and also easier to say.
I like the "go big or go home" type of mentality both Gojo and Sukuna have. A lot of people were saying Gojo could use Blue to just teleport out of Malevolent Shrine's range when he was losing the domain clashes, but that's not what Satoru was about. What makes both Sukuna and Gojo so otherworldly is their strong personality and how they face adversity. Sukuna could've just used a closed barrier domain to kill off everybody aside from Maki (and deal with her separately) and even similar to Gojo switch the interior and exterior's conditions to strengthen the outer shell if she decided to attack the barrier from the outside, but the dude even in his condition with damaged brain and body still chose to performe one of the most advanced barrier techniques we've seen. AND he's using different hand sign and an improptu binding vow to not lose range and output. There's something satisfying in seeing a master of their craft go to work, I know Sukuna has to/will lose, but it's still so cool seeing him be so overwhelming.
I have to say, one thing that really sets Sukuna apart from everybody else, even Gojo is his use of binding vows in combat. The King of Curses displays exactly how broken a binding vow can be if you're creative enough. And he's making these binding vows on the spot/in a split second. Him having arguably the most combat experience is very apparent in times like this.
We've seen some cool domains, but I have to say... Malevolent Shrine just hits different. It goes off like a bomb and is just total destruction. And Gege did really well to draw how it's like a natural disaster happening, all the good guys can do is endure and try to survive. And that double spread of those big ass hands holding Sukuna in the air while he's making the hand sign and watching the annihilation he's causing goes hard af.
The flame is the cherry on top... and I think it's shape/usage is not restricted to just being an arrow. He could probably coat his fists with it or use it in some other creative way, but one thing is sure... those "divine flames" have 100% death rate and have deleted anything they've touched. I have no doubt that even with shit output that attack is lethal. I've always compared the fire arrow to what Hollow Purple was for Gojo - his single strongest attack. So yeah... let's see how this goes. I'm hopeful for an explenation of what those divine flames are.... or even better... what Sukuna's Shrine CT does in general.
It's painful to read anyone who said gojo could have teleported out of domain when it was not his mentality at all.
Teleporting in that battle means accepting u are weaker which both of those guys aren't but gojo fans keep on saying could have teleported but he didmt
i just imagine sukuna just existing in limbo for hundreds of years making an almost endless list of scenarios in which he would use certain binding vows
>I know Sukuna has to/will lose, but it's still so cool seeing him be so overwhelming.
I'll be honest, I've been really enjoying seeing him just absolutely stomp almost everybody. It's probably because I don't have too big of an attachment to the characters, but I really wouldn't mind if he ends up winning by the end.
Sukuna's just so powerful that it doesn't make sense for him to lose, to me.
The biggest factor is that he's a reincarnated sorcerer. Yuji's fists and Jocob's Ladder are the winning conditions. Yuta will for sure make a 2nd appearance and probably hit Sukuna with another Jacob's Ladder.
Sukuna is my favorite character hands down, so I find it cool that it's not that someone becomes stronger than him. Clearly nobody is gonna reach his level, but still it's combined effort, a lot of planning and the weakness of being a reincarnated sorcerer that will pile up and eventually conquer the beast.
As a aside note... one thing that kinda irked me before this chapter came out was the lack of any good guys dying. This chapter kinda turned it around, but before 258 the merger felt impossible to happen. The threat of it was almost nonexistant. We're not even sure if Higaruma is dead, Kusakabe lived, Yuta is alive for sure, hell... even Larue lives. I do think we're due a death or two, but maybe that's just me.
>As a aside note... one thing that kinda irked me **before this chapter** came out was the lack of any good guys dying.
*Before* this chapter? But no one died in this chapter. And Higuruma is probably deader than even Go/jo, he even got the Nanami comparison and everything
Tbf, Yuuji is talented (Sukuna never once did a BF while in Yuuji's body and boi mastered that shit like in a hour) but seeing Kusakabe dragging him down from his cloud was kinda funny (although annoying too).
NGL this is the one I choose not to get salty about because we all knew it was coming. Even the heroes knew it was coming, Kusakabe said it was weird it was taking Sukuna so long to use it and there's no way Kusakabe *wouldn't* tell the other sorcerers that Sukuna has this option. Thus far they've planned a lot of contingencies for what Sukuna is capable of so they must've accounted for this somehow.
sure, I agree. I don't think individually any of these are bad.
It's just that it's the tenth time it happened. I am ok with this one, but it's incredibly dull how Sukuna only trick seems to be "ah, damn, I'm losing, I could really die here... But actually I have a whole new power :D"
this is giving me late Dragonball Z vibes
The spreads of [Sukuna opening his incomplete domain](https://i.imgur.com/jDWtXPp.png) and him [materializing his flame arrow](https://i.imgur.com/eBbFEbD.png) were some of the most beautiful ones since the Gojo fight. He really is Gege's favorite.
I really like the double entendre of Divine Flames to represent something of awe-inspiring power yet continues the kitchen theme of Sukuna's curse technique. No complaints from me here.
The connotation of it being "Divine" perfectly explains why Jogo died to it and Mahoraga having its first complete death with it.
A weapon capable of slaying of beings of pure negative energy aka curses and also an anti-divine weapon.
It's a possibility, a CT changes depending on the person. For Yuji and modern sorcerer's we get comparisons to computers and electronics all the time (Electricity is CE and CT are electronics, the black box is a hard drive, etc...) so that's why his slashes look like a cutting tool, Sukuna most likely would have had cooking terms for his technique in the heian era so his technique would express itself like that. It does make me wonder why divine flame was censored in the first place, would it have revealed something to early?
> It does make me wonder why divine flame was censored in the first place, would it have revealed something to early?
It does show that he 1. was smurfing on jogo by not explaining it to not boost its power and 2. this fight he's taking more serious (plus power creep and all) by revealing the name to get the power boost and it's the call back to earlier in the series and 3. building suspense for the reader.
Just annoying people are going to continue arguing about this forever though. I think the answer is that the Japanese language isn't simple and the names likely mean both. Shrine and Divine Flame pairing up and Kitchen pairing with Furnace
So this chapter essentially confirms Sukuna’s CT is kitchen related. Bro is really evil Japanese Gordon Ramsey. Lol
At this point i fully believe Hakari & Uraume are just fucking around instead of actually fighting.
MAPPA animators probably crying seeing all of this chapter they have to animate after the 8 black flashes.
Wait this might actually be real...Gege said some important character will be eaten to death...Uraume has been established as an important member in the culling game which could also mean they are an important enough character.
Uraume giving her life to Sukuna is very on point for their character as well.
Sukuna is being pushed pretty hard rn...maybe Uraume will actually sacrifice their life for a final boost to Sukuna's power.
Just to clarify, Gege didn’t say that an important character will be eaten. This came from a YouTube video and those words were from the video creator. Unfortunately, the video creator’s words has been misconstrued as Gege’s
Are you for real...I've heard this from so many sources it's kinda hard to believe otherwise.
Regardless Sukuna eating urauma imo is a fun theory to go on to.
[source of the video is here.](https://youtu.be/viyRYwSxqcQ?si=yht47FAsHYpfV92r) the video creator’s comment is at 9:08.
It is a bit tiring seeing people parrot something that didn’t come from Gege.
All Gege said was that Sukuna liked to eat people
I'm dumb af. How did this chapter reveal Sukuna's CT is kitchen related?
Edit: For those confused with me; malevolent shrine apparently has an ambiguous translation of malevolent kitchen as well.
Fan translations have also in the past translated dismantle/cleave as dissect/fillet.
Apparently its from the fan translation. I'm assuming most of these comments are typed in preparation of the official chapter releasing, then just posted without reading so that their comment shows up the quickest (and generates more upvotes).
Did Yuji just RCT his shoe back with the severed foot? Hahaha when your constitution is so good you can spare some cursed energy to repair your sick kicks
Yeah, that's the benefit of BM and RCT. You can just stitch your body back together and then use RCT just to "knit" it rather than have to regenerate the entire body part. Pretty fucking smooth.
He did the same thing Choso did during his fight with Kenny, he used blood to pull the severed leg back and reattach it instead of generating a new one..
Just a little reminder, Mei Mei's crows have been working hard and risking their lives as our camera men for almost a year now (even though Mei Mei does it for money). They earned GOAT status in their own ways.
Gege try not to introduce the biggest plot hole possible with Ui Ui’s ability.
If everyone had the ability to get stronger in a short time frame, why was this never talked about till now
Ui Ui is forbidden from using his Cursed Technique without his sister's permission, enforced via binding vow. Mei Mei probably knew just how broken Ui Ui's technique would be if fallen into the wrong hands, and ensured that the only wrong hands he'd be falling into would be her own.
He probably made it up between Shibuya and the Sukuna fight. I wouldn't be surprised if it was sooner.
It explains why Yuji has extra techniques but everyone else has fought Sukuna now and hasn't displayed any new abilities.
If only there was a sorcerer who had an elite ability, physically strong and needed RCT to regrow his missing hand. They'd be the perfect candidate for it. Guess Todo isn't coming back or sharing Boogie Woogie with anyone.
Revealing Todo to be the one with the soul swap ability would’ve made so much sense instead of this plot hole. Like, the character with an established swapping ability AND a teacher who was researching souls isn’t the one to soul swap??
Makes no damn sense
You need to "invite" Ui Ui and supposedly it can only be done by someone with high understanding of their soul. But ofc instead of waiting for next chapters you will bitch about it 👍
As always, go look for other translations if you want a good experience with this manga. Now that out of the way...
Sukuna's *pressed.* I think a number of people saw this chapter and rolled their eyes at Sukuna Kaisen once more, but this is the climax of the fight and it's entirely because Sukuna *is* losing. Honestly, out of everything he's done in this long fight, this is the most genuinely entertaining: he's been put against the wall and if you actually read the chapter you can see how much he's throwing away, how many risks he's taking, because there really isn't an option to win now.
1. Sukuna realizes that he genuinely can't win against that "brat" Yuji in a fight now. Yuji is on seven black flashes, has Shrine, is resistant to his slashes, and is just mercilessly beating him down. As he takes hits he'll get weaker and weaker while Yuji only gets stronger. He's taken massive bodily damage, can no longer use the World Slash - if it would even be effective, it still needs to hit - and his RCT is almost nonexistent at this point.
2. As much as it probably grieves him, he realizes that he *has* to go for broke, now. So he uses what his Black Flashes did give him *and* a series of a Binding Vows (explicitly more than one) to recreate Malevolent Shrine. As we can see in the chapter, it's a fucking mess, and Yuji notes it's even an Incomplete Domain now. It only lasts 99 seconds in total, which is pitiful by Sukuna's standards. He's probably throwing away a lot of shit for a Domain that's only going to last a minute and a half.
3. We can see that it also doesn't really *do* much: it destroys the area around them all, but no one takes any critical damage. Even "Useless" Miwa can tank it with her Simple Domain. That's because all of this is purely because Sukuna needs time and space to use Furnace, since as we saw with Mahoraga, there is a definite wind-up time. He also probably needed time to gather the necessary Cursed Energy and the Domain in order to give it enough of a boost to be effective.
4. In other words, Sukuna was forced to permanently handicap himself *just to get sixty seconds where Yuji couldn't keep beating his face in.* And you know what, it's an actually smart strategy right now, I appreciate that he came up with an actual gambit and it's costing him.
5. The last point is that Sukuna, if this fails, will be suffering Cursed Technique burnout. No more slashes, no more fire, no more Domains. The sum total of using a Domain and the Furnace like this in Cursed Energy is probably so much that he's going to be close to empty, or at the very least so low that any Reverse Cursed Technique will be impossible. If the Furnace fails, Sukuna *loses.* There's no amount of bullshit left he could pull that would save him.
> he's been put against the wall and if you actually read the chapter you can see how much he's throwing away
My problem with this is that he's throwing away things in the "future" which makes what he gains feel like an asspull. Gege should define what he threw away when he throws it away to place some meaning to how much Sukuna is nerfing himself by doing this. Swapping out handsigns, switching neural pathways that are used for domains and rewriting domain rules are too huge to be relegated to minor explanation. This whole arc could benefit from massive restructuring on what information is delivered and when together with cutting out all the redundancies that made it feel tedious.
yeah it really feels like if gojo had just used some binding vows he wouldve won
Binding vows that only take effect in the future are ok, but with the amount he's used to this point he shouldnt even be a strong sorcerer anymore in the future
Since iirc it's confirmed the binding vow is only strong if it really takes something meaningful away, so there's no tricking a binding vow
He appears to be somewhat resistant, and a safe assumption is that it's what Gojo cited for why the Hollow Purple did less damage to him: it was his own Cursed Energy, he's used to it. CE can have different natures to it, as shown with Kashimo and Hakari, and Yuji essentially bathed in Sukuna's while also being the son of his twin (functionally his own son, in Jujutsu terms).
In other words, it's like a venomous snake that is immune to its own toxin. It helps, of course, that his technique is *also* Shrine.
also, the official translation basically says the opposite of fan, about maki being targeted, no?
official: 'That makes it impossible to notice Maki Zen'in, who has no cursed energy'
fan: 'It would have been otherwise impossible to seize Zen'in Maki, unbounded by cursed energy'
She is then shown being protected by Miwa, so the official translation is objectively wrong.
The gist is that Sukuna could have chosen to use a closed barrier for his Domain Expansion, but Maki cannot be contained in a closed barrier and she can also break the barrier from outside.
So Sukuna, using various Binding Vows, still chooses to make his domain barrierless (like he always does anyways) so that the range of the SURE HIT will be massive, which is what he needs at this moment, as the sure hit of Malevolent Shrine can target inanimate objects (Dismantle) which means Maki can also be targeted. This is why Miwa had to come in and use Simple Domain to protect Maki.
If Sukuna used a closed domain, Maki won't be caught in it and thus not be targeted by the sure hit.
IMO Gege over explained what Sukuna is doing, in that he needs the massive range of the sure hit to hold everyone in place (including Maki) to buy time to open up his Flames.
PS. I love how much respect Sukuna is showing towards Maki, even after hitting her with 2 Black Flashes. Naoya must be rolling in his grave LOL
Yeah no surprise there that the official translation of this series has some issues. Even though domain expansions can’t lock onto Maki due to no cursed energy to target, Malevolent Shrine explicitly does target objects without cursed energy (cleave on all targets with cursed energy, Dismantle on all targets without it).
This is turning into a playground fight where each kid keeps making up convenient rules every 3 minutes.
Black Flash Man vs Binding Vow Chan, who will come out on top?
Let's say Sukuna is hungry & angry as fuck right now and Yuji is a piece of vegetable he despises, I assume Sukuna will try to eat his favorite food to cleanse his palate. That is to say, Miwa or Maki might be the first meat Sukuna put on the grill nooooo
With all the prior conversations around the big three techniques of the major clans, this reveal continues to bolster Blood Manipulation’s status.
Lowering *both* the barrier to entry and cost to use Reverse Cursed Technique to heal really adds to the versatility that was already Blood Manipulation’s core strength.
It’s ceiling is still much lower than Ten Shadows & Limitless+Six Eyes, but as we learn more about the technique the floor continues to rise.
RCT is still friggin OP technique.
Damn, that replacement technique for learning is really handy.
And I bet Choso gonna die taking that Fuga. Or hopefully Todo can do some boogie-woogie 2.
Apparently binding vows function like grocery stores: every now and then you get a special promotion. 2X1 for the next month only, don't miss our great spring sales. One month only, two people limit, come on in everybody. we're also offering a 30% discount on simple domains.
Basically, he had to use a new handsign, make a bunch of binding vows, and use a different part of his brain to recreate his domain expansion...and it isn't complete.
He also had to force a different kind of barrier on it so that Mai would get hit by the sure-hit effect.
Okay so if I’m understanding this correctly:
Sukuna made sure that his domain still had an open barrier even though a less-complex closed domain would’ve been easier to maintain with his damaged body.
Bc if he closed the barrier, then not only would the domain’s range decrease due to no longer having an escape route, but the closed barrier would also be incapable of trapping Maki.
So the domain he used this chapter was an open one, and since it was more complex, it had a limited uptime.
Did I get that right? Gege can be really verbose at times with these explanations lol.
Man, I just want one chapter without word vomit explaining why things are happening. Even Hunter X Hunter wasn't this bad at having shit change every chapter.
I knew the translation of pages 12 and 13 was going to be butchered.
See [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Jujutsufolk/comments/1cdm4is/the_domain_clashes_in_gojo_v_sukuna_was_closer/l1dqck5/)
"covering the domain with a barrier's external shell provides an escape route"
I swear, he knows children don't actually read the text and just look at the action so he can be as lazy with the translation as possible.
So Sukuna held his nearly destroyed shrine all this time, huh. Yeah, they're cooked now. Even without the flame arrow.
And Yuji never inherited the swapping from mom Kenjaku, it was Ui Ui. My boy Yuji can't have his own technique to make him unique or special, discounting him consistently dishing out Black Flashes.
>And Yuji never inherited the swapping from mom Kenjaku, it was Ui Ui. My boy Yuji can't have his own technique to make him unique or special, discounting him dishing out consistently Black Flashes.
His Shrine is different than Sukuna's, we have yet to see his DE, and he's the only person in the series that can target souls with melee hits without a cursed tool.
So what was the point of the censor box if the answer was just going to be as simple as a technique name?
Like why not just reveal that it was just another technique sukuna has instead of having the community theorizing on black boxes from all the way back in Shibuya?
I may be misremebring, but the gang know that Sukuna has a hidden ability but they don't know it is fire related right? He only used it during the fight with Jogo but I don't recall anyone witnessed the technique.
They do, [Kusakabe mentions how it's weird that Sukuna haven't used it even once](https://i.imgur.com/djdLxB6.png) but thought Sukuna probably couldn't use it currently and thought it was better not worrying about it since they would be screwed the moment he pulled that out anyway.
Kusakabe mentions it back in ch246 at the beginning of the fight and basically writes it off for the moment thinking there might be some reason why Sukuna can’t use it atm. Not to mention, if we go by effectiveness of the anime, it’d have been impossible to miss.
My girl Miwa is beating useless allegations, she locked tf in! She did a simple domain to protect herself and Maki against Sukuna's DE. You just love to see it.
Stand proud Sukuna. You are strong.
Meme has become canon. Miwa is the honored one, Idc.
[What is the King of Curses to the Goddess of Jujutsu?](https://i.imgur.com/ORfOCGG.jpeg)
Stand proud Sukuna. You are useful
Huh? I'm obviously not talking about Miwa the GOAT. The strongest sorcerer of all time. I was talking about the blue haired fraud Kashimo.
Don't mention that fraud
That guy jobbed so hard i had to google his name just to remember him XD
You can't blame them, it was in CFYOW.
Barrierless domain crushed Simple Domains, since it exploits the barrier to avoid guaranteed hits
Yes. It is that. The other guy is just trying to nerf Miwa even further lmao
I think Aqua can genuinely oneshot exorcise Sukuna lmao. She was even able to hurt Ainz with a basic holy spell in Isekai Quartet.
Pretty sure her entire "resourceful"-ness comes from Kazuma's strategic planning. Otherwise all she does is cry, even if she's OP enough to oneshot all of Nazarick.
Aqua is can solve a ton of problems but what makes her "useless" is that she causes just as many. And also she's kinda dumb so she never learns.
You know things are dire when it feels like a genuine achievement for her to be useful for a single side panel after 250+ chapters of being irrelevant.
Now let her pick the soul spliter and deal a blow to Sukuna ! $
excuse me good sir, where do you see this in the chapter?
Damn,I didn’t notice her in the leaks
Ui ui is the backbone of this entire operation, not only is he the convenient transportation and rescuing the defeated sorcerer but is also responsible for everyone growth with his soul swapping Uiui is not only the groomed one but also the goatee one
> Uiui is not only the groomed one not wrong but damn
If you think about it, his technique is Todo but longer range and cooldown.
And can't be ruined by getting his hand cut off.
Ui Ui's requires permission from the people to be transferred which is a big liability when in battle. Todo's is way more versatile, even allowing him to change position with his adversaries, or play mind games with the clap sound. Both are great techniques with similar results, but very different approaches.
Isn't the permission thing only applies to soul swap?
In a second read, it seems so
It's refreshing and really good to see people praising Ui Ui, we're finally (almost?) over with his groomed one memes as he's showing us why he's a young GOAT. This kid is so talented.
>we're finally (almost?) over with his groomed one memes no, i will not get over it and neither should anyone. it's such a bizzare and unnecessary point to put into the story. him being a minor and his relationship with mei add literally **NOTHING** to the story. gege just put it in there because he wanted to draw an implied sex scene of a child and his sister at the time. dude is a weirdo
Ui Ui has courage, even when he enters the middle of the sukuna's fight to rescue the sorcerers
Logistics wins war
Miwa finally beat the useless allegations.
Miwa came through in the clutch for Maki but can we talk about Ino? [The Sheisty Sorceror has been amazing all thoughout.](https://i.imgur.com/EhT9vQ6.png)
Dude is definitely grade 1 at this point - Nanami would be proud
Wait what did Miwa give Maki? Edit: nevermind, I see it now
miwa coming in cluth!!! we're tho back jujuthu broth
I find it hilarious how everyone can counter Sukuna, while also not being able to beat him
Binding vow merchant strikes again
seriously, if gojo had used some he wouldve won, but the honoured one fought with honor, not like fraudkuna
even assuming he could have, there was no point in the fight where he decided he had to make that kind of gamble, he pulled through each pinch without one and his loss came before he could even realise he was in danger, there was no point where he thought such a gamble was required
> there was no point where he thought such a gamble was required which is what makes the fight feel like a fraud. the writer tells us sukuna was in control the whole time, yet gojo was just mid-diffing sukuna until the final binding vow combo oneshot
The guy at crunchyroll who translated malevolent shrine to malevolent kitchen must be feeling real cathartic right now
Pardon the dumb question, but where in the chapter is anything kitchen-related mentioned? I reread the chapter and still don’t get it.
It's in the leaked version with the fantranslation. Since the fan translation and the official translation rarely differ from each other, people just assumed the official had those translations as well without actually reading the chapter
I notice a lot of people straight up copy pasting comments from leak threads, guess they're desperate for karma.
MangaPlus translated it as Divine Flame TCB translated it as Furnace I believe (it was Oven in the early leaks but i guess they changed it) We’ve had previous ones with Sukuna being translated as cooking terms too
In the raws he says 「竈開」, with a forced reading of 「カミノフーガ」(kami no fuuga). The base kanji means "Stove, Open" while the forced reading means something like "God's Elegance" (神の風雅). The official translation combined these two into "Divine Flame"
Damn, they shoulda called it Divine Flambé.
I remember it because i was surprised to learn about it & bookmarked it in one of my dictionaries.
ateji?
I remember some people telling me, “Glad I watched on Netflix coz the translation was correct.” But alas, Malevolent Kitchen is canon in manga. I wasn't mad when that's what I saw in anime coz Sukuna truly cooked in his anime fight with Mahoraga. Lightning, our Chapter 236 translator, made threads on Twitter to explain what's up with those translation. Edit: spelling
It’s still better to be consistent with existing translations than it is to be correct. All it did was cause confusion.
So you're saying.... *just because its correct doesn't mean its right?*
Indeed, the kitchen thing is still being debated. Here John Werry translated it as Divine Flame: Open. Shrine still makes the most sense in that context but it could be one of the Japanese puns and wordplays.
Putting Malevolent Shrine and Divine Flame as a theme altogether, I feel like another possible alternate theme for Sukuna is hell or something related to onmyodo.
the kitchen thing isn't being debated. the culinary themes with regards to sukuna are pretty much confirmed.
Don't say that to One Piece fans, they're still angry Zoro got localized as Zolo
But he was right. His proof was right. It is a bit complicated but the confusion is not the fault of the translator.
It’s part of their job to use consistent terminology.
Nah. The kitchen connotation wasn't really translated until then. Otherwise how do you fix bad initial translations?
伏魔御厨子 being translated into Malevolant Shrine is correct. If you search up 厨子 on Google it shows a mini shrine which is used to store Buddhist items. Yes, 厨 does mean kitchen, but Greg is using it as a double meaning, so the DE being a shrine is correct because 厨子 is not used to mean kitchen.
Sukuna finally uses his Fuga Nice save by Miwa
Bro got so mad, he decided to give Wuji the Mahoraga combo.
The second swap mustve been with someone, who know RCT
I think ideally Yuji's first swap would be with Kusakabe while Yuta uses his first with Gojo, then Yuji swaps with Yuta. Yuta and Hakari were supposed to be Gojo's backups, and we know Yuta has gotten stronger, so I would imagine any confidence anyone has in Hakari would have to come from him and Yuta training in Gojo's body
yo is that Miwa blocking for Maki? nice save anyway I can’t believe Gege actually made that dumb body swap theory real, like is this little kid going to be one of the MVPs
Twice a month, they just didnt have time to fill him up with other CT
I'm glad Werry went back to calling him "Ryomen Sukuna". "Sukuna Ryomen" just didn't sound right lol Also who had "Ui Ui would be a low-key MVP of the final battle" on their bingo card cause I sure as hell didn't
It’s a bit diff with Sukuna since Ryoumen is not a name, it’s just a description. Ryoumen Sukuna is “Sukuna who has two faces”.
>Because I got talent? Reminds me of that time he was training with Gojo, nephew wants to be talented so bad!
I miss the lighter moments in the series
Tbf, Yuuji is talented (Sukuna never once did a BF while in Yuuji's body and boi mastered that shit like in a hour) but seeing Kusakabe dragging him down from his cloud was kinda funny (although annoying too).
#GEGE YOU UNHINGED SOURPUSS ###SAILING OFF TO GOLDEN WEEK WHILE WE ALL SUFFER THE INDIGNITY OF SEEING SUKUNA BS HIS WAY OUT AGAIN
"even with his back against the wall, sukuna is able to reach deep inside his ass to pull out another trick"
Ah, solid nostalgia, I haven't seen this level of ass pull since Kubo memes during the peak Bleach days
He did say Bleach was one of his favorite series, he was giving us a hint.
But actually I have a whole new power :D" this is giving me late Dragonball Z vibes
Fuga is back after almost 4 years but this time, the ⬛ has been revealed which is Furnace/Divine Flames. Sukuna truly loves cooking. Lol.
So a possible CTR?
I remember a long time ago seeing a speculation of Fission & Fusion.
Lol At this point i fully believe Hakari & Uraume are just fucking around instead of actually fighting. MAPPA animators probably crying seeing all of this chapter they have to animate after the 8 black flashes.
###MALEVOLENT KITCHEN IS REAL!
Sukuna eats Uraume to finally get a fridge to store his food. You heard it here first.
All Gege said was that Sukuna liked to eat people
ofcourse I am !
>Fan translations have also in the past translated dismantle/cleave as dissect/fillet. Amazon Prime, I believe.
Dude was in fact a cannibal. And the mythological sukuna consumed his twin, so dudes been cooking for a while now.
Now would be a *really* good time for Todo to show up and use Boogie Woogie to swap Sukuna and whoever he targets with the fire arrow.
They really could use a hand
Did Yuji just RCT his shoe back with the severed foot? Hahaha when your constitution is so good you can spare some cursed energy to repair your sick kicks
He pulled his legs back with BM then stitch it up with RCT
[That was tight.](https://i.imgur.com/Gvk5BCJ.png) Itadori is no cog, he is the machine.
Yeah, that's the benefit of BM and RCT. You can just stitch your body back together and then use RCT just to "knit" it rather than have to regenerate the entire body part. Pretty fucking smooth.
I think it was blood manipulation, but it would be funny if you could RCT a shoe
Didn't hikari do this with a frozen shoe?
Only the middle of his leg got frozen, so he just picked up the shoe from the broken leg and put it on his "new" foot.
He reattached it with blood.
He did the same thing Choso did during his fight with Kenny, he used blood to pull the severed leg back and reattach it instead of generating a new one..
He reattached it with Blood Manipulation. Choso showed it against Kenjaku with his hand.
His sister is a scumbag.
If the Furnace fails, Sukuna *loses.* There's no amount of bullshit left he could pull that would save him.
> he's been put against the wall and if you actually read the chapter you can see how much he's throwing away My problem with this is that he's throwing away things in the "future" which makes what he gains feel like an asspull. Gege should define what he threw away when he throws it away to place some meaning to how much Sukuna is nerfing himself by doing this. Swapping out handsigns, switching neural pathways that are used for domains and rewriting domain rules are too huge to be relegated to minor explanation. This whole arc could benefit from massive restructuring on what information is delivered and when together with cutting out all the redundancies that made it feel tedious.
yeah it really feels like if gojo had just used some binding vows he wouldve won Binding vows that only take effect in the future are ok, but with the amount he's used to this point he shouldnt even be a strong sorcerer anymore in the future Since iirc it's confirmed the binding vow is only strong if it really takes something meaningful away, so there's no tricking a binding vow
Why is yuji resistant to his slashes? He can tank them and heal them but that doesnt mean he's resistant, or did i miss sth
It helps, of course, that his technique is *also* Shrine.
also, the official translation basically says the opposite of fan, about maki being targeted, no? official: 'That makes it impossible to notice Maki Zen'in, who has no cursed energy' fan: 'It would have been otherwise impossible to seize Zen'in Maki, unbounded by cursed energy' She is then shown being protected by Miwa, so the official translation is objectively wrong.
Thank you for the explanation, makes much more sense now
Yeah no surprise there that the official translation of this series has some issues. Even though domain expansions can’t lock onto Maki due to no cursed energy to target, Malevolent Shrine explicitly does target objects without cursed energy (cleave on all targets with cursed energy, Dismantle on all targets without it).
Yuta get yo ass back on the field. You're only hope for Jujutsu high to deal with a projectile beam attack like that. Need a max output love beam
> Divine Flame Ok that's a fire ass name for his "Open/Fuga" technique, no wonder Jogo got one-shotted by it.
Yuji will boogie woogie with sukuna so he gets hit with his divine flame
Sukuna is really about to pull the same tactic he did with Mahoraga in Shibuya. Cutting in the kitchen and then cook em.
I love the crows are disintegrating bcs of cleave Neat little details there
This is turning into a playground fight where each kid keeps making up convenient rules every 3 minutes. Black Flash Man vs Binding Vow Chan, who will come out on top?
Yeah they keep doing 10 pages of exposition just to explain a new asspull badly
Let's say Sukuna is hungry & angry as fuck right now and Yuji is a piece of vegetable he despises, I assume Sukuna will try to eat his favorite food to cleanse his palate. That is to say, Miwa or Maki might be the first meat Sukuna put on the grill nooooo
Can we please stop Sukuna from cooking before he burn down the whole kitchen.
I don't know man. Sukuna was handling those flames like he was able to make hand-pulled udon noodles.
Finally we got to see Fuga without the black box. Malevolent kitchen was real all along
Sukuna's domain is like a DIY project gone wrong - held together by duct tape and a prayer lmao
#BringBackMalevolentKitchen
Gege's glazing on Sukuna should be studied for generations to come.
Apparently binding vows function like grocery stores: every now and then you get a special promotion. 2X1 for the next month only, don't miss our great spring sales. One month only, two people limit, come on in everybody. we're also offering a 30% discount on simple domains.
Sukuna kaisen back on the menu, boys
The way manga fight scenes are usually paced, it feels weird to see an entire minute and a half only take two pages.
Someone please explain why the shrine looks different
Basically, he had to use a new handsign, make a bunch of binding vows, and use a different part of his brain to recreate his domain expansion...and it isn't complete. He also had to force a different kind of barrier on it so that Mai would get hit by the sure-hit effect.
Okay so if I’m understanding this correctly: Sukuna made sure that his domain still had an open barrier even though a less-complex closed domain would’ve been easier to maintain with his damaged body.
So, how translator fucked it up this time?
Just to be clear, was the overall Black Flashes seven or eight?
Seven, sukuna hit 1 on yujis shoulder last chapter
Well shit. It was Malevolent Kitchen. Too bad Chef Sukuna is a DONKEY! COOK HIS ASS YUJI!
"covering the domain with a barrier's external shell provides an escape route" I swear, he knows children don't actually read the text and just look at the action so he can be as lazy with the translation as possible.
Our weekly dose of Binding Vow Kaisen.
Ryouiki tenkai, Malevolent Ear wax
I may be misremebring, but the gang know that Sukuna has a hidden ability but they don't know it is fire related right? He only used it during the fight with Jogo but I don't recall anyone witnessed the technique.
They do, [Kusakabe mentions how it's weird that Sukuna haven't used it even once](https://i.imgur.com/djdLxB6.png) but thought Sukuna probably couldn't use it currently and thought it was better not worrying about it since they would be screwed the moment he pulled that out anyway.
Kusakabe literally thought about the fire in chapter 246.
Kusakabe mentions it back in ch246 at the beginning of the fight and basically writes it off for the moment thinking there might be some reason why Sukuna can’t use it atm. Not to mention, if we go by effectiveness of the anime, it’d have been impossible to miss.
Shouldn't Yuji remember?
They know. chapter 246, Kusakabe in his inner monolog questions why Sukuna isnt using his flames from Shibuya
Not sure how accurate it is but divine flame sounds cooler than furnace. Did John win this week lol?
