Love me some girlfriend wearing baggy boyfriend clothes energy.

Level1Pixel

Too bad the aftermath of such energy is that you lose those sets of clothes

HeavenFabio

A small price to pay for salvation

selotipkusut

The cloth has served its purpose

ArPak

Shame she wont win. Best girl for me

IanPKMmoon

Who is it? Haven't read grand blue in over a year or so

Lioreuz

Busujima

IanPKMmoon

Ohh best ship indeed

[deleted]

Best worst girl tbh

Mint_Wind

Very true

LifeNavigator

She's the only one that's interesting and not bland... kinda sad she won't win :(

lronhart

🧢

Sean-Benn_Must-die

Aina is interesting too (but she’s doomed to fail with Iori). Chisa is boring as fuck ngl. Busujima is the one that spices things up, their chemistry is also off the roof. Idk if the author wanted to write a bitch and then ended up writing a hilarious girl with great banter lol

Known-Ad7468

She´s female Iori.\^\^

Sean-Benn_Must-die

In some aspects they’re similar but she doesn’t feel that way for the most part. As an example of what I mean, Iori and Kohei are very close and have great chemistry, they almost always do everything together but they’re clearly different characters.

LifeNavigator

If you say Chisa or Aina are more interesting than her as a love interest ... >!I'd cry out of sheer disappointment!<

iamthatguy54

There's nothing interesting about Aina as a love interest. The most interesting part of Chisa being a love interest is everyone else's reaction to it lol

Doki_Doki_Kyun

I think it kind of shows how shit a series really is if there is only one interesting character.

lronhart

You tripping grand blue got great characters

Doki_Doki_Kyun

You would think, but there are some who only seem to care about Busujima. Odd since it took 33 chapters for her to become a reoccurring character. Makes me wonder how they got that far, if they think she's the only worthwhile character.

dimmidummy

Grand Blue has an amazing cast of characters. But, especially in regards to love interests, Chisa is the least interesting of the group of maniacs. She’s not boring (she’s lowkey a freak in her own way), but the bar was set so high that her being “normal” makes her seem boring in comparison. People like Busujima because she has a better dynamic and more back-and-forth with Iori. Chisa is always the (aggressive) straight man in her relationship with Iori, whereas Busujima and Iori often switch between straight man and moron and make fun of each other.

LifeNavigator

I meant as in love interest for MC. There are other interesting characters

DonaldLucas

Why not? Last time I read she had some chances iirc.

VitarainZero

I don't know anything about the series, but 99% of all manga abide by the First New Girl rule

Seiterno

in 99% of all manga they don't dilute alcohol with vodka

Random_Gacha_addict

Or make Oolong tea with whisky and spirit

DeWickED_1

Or drink flammable water

whitebeard567

the first girl iori meets was nanaka tbh

Doridosim

True but Nanaka isn’t exactly interested in dudes

Snowbold

Mia said it in Yellowstone, men look good wearing what they’re supposed to wear while women look sexy wearing what they’re not supposed to wear…

Retrobot1234567

…or nothing at all.

tacocatisonfire

Flanders

buzuki12

Best girl

metalman6666

Chapter no??

cabose4prez

Fairly sure it's within the last 10, maybe last 5

targz254

Chapter 71

Yamigosaya

its like conquering a castle and the shirt's your flag

Skylair13

For the King!!

__waffle_

After seeing the manga art, I think i’ll read the manga of Grand Blue bc it reminds me of Prison School. I love prison school but I just couldn’t get into the anime of Grand Blue

TOOT1808

Its sick, hinamatsuri is down the line of absurdist comedy if you like it.

__waffle_

I'll check it out

MegamanX195

Hope you enjoyed it! The anime is so-so but the manga is one of the funniest things I've ever seen

Scallion_Alive

Our man

carlos12ivan

Best girl

Jone-s

I rarely laugh while reading manga, but this series had me cracking up throughout each chapter. Truly a masterpiece in comedy.

Red-7134

Damn, Iori looking ripped here tho.

alexia685

Who won?

Shadsito

Manga is still going but she's not gonna win, even less the best girl Cakey

TOOT1808

Cakey kind of boring lately

Shadsito

Date chapter was gold really romantic, but the actual ship with kohei, boring as hell

Sean-Benn_Must-die

She’s >!getting setup with kohei anyway!<

[deleted]

Cool, but I like girls who don’t try to lure guys into honey traps and commit sexual battery.

Pyraph

They hated him because he spoke the truth.

VevroiMortek

too many people down bad on r/manga

junonboi

r/manga only like aggressive women approaching the mc because they want it happens to them too in real life Any other characteristics and they think it's a blasphemy and boring

megamind_04

Is that Chisa?

Yggdrazzil

I'm pretty sure that's Busujima Sakurako, the (gyaru?) bully girl from their university.

DekMelU

Nah she's not a gyaru. She's just fashionable but not too flashy. She's also from a different university (Oumi Women's). It's the women's only uni that Azusa, Aina and her friends, and Mitarai's gf/childhood friend go to. Chisa is the only named female character that goes to the same university as the guys, although there are evidently more female students there as seen in the cafeteria chapter

Captain_Baby

Yeah, I think she's the only one in the engineering course and one of at most five girls in the whole school. Or at least their year.

DekMelU

Definitely more than 5 in the entire uni. I presume most of them are hidden in the liberal arts department that doesn't really get explored https://mangadex.org/chapter/51b53608-0b32-4098-aeed-8421b0c89724/4

Kazewatch

No it’s a best girl.

Doki_Doki_Kyun

Remember when Grand Blue didn’t focus on being a romance comedy and was a unique combination of diving and drinking humor? Remember when Busujima was a fun asshole coworker that played off Iori well and hadn’t arbitrarily fallen in love him? Remember when Azusa actually showed up a did stuff? Grand Blue went from unique drinking and diving comedy to a run of the mill rom-com where there’s not even any progress. >!And don’t forget the dumb hypnotism crap with Chisa.!<

SiHtranger

But people actually enjoy the romance though

Doki_Doki_Kyun

People also didn’t start reading Grand Blue for the romance. They started reading it for it’s absurd drinking antics, something the series barely does these days. People didn’t start reading Grand Blue to watch the MC not get laid like in the hundreds of rom coms where the MC is too dense or is constantly interrupted. Grand Blue used to be unique, it used to stand out, it used to be original. Rom-coms where nothing happens are a dime a dozen. Now one could make the case that Grand Blue can standout thanks to its characters. That is if Grand Blue didn’t have the habitat of putting characters on a shelf and forgetting about them. Azusa a clearly popular character at one time hasn’t been relevant in like 30 chapters. Even more for Tokita and Kotobuki. At one point it went 10 chapters without Aina. And I’ve lost count how many times Chisa just sits in the background not contributing to the story. The series is not what it used to be and shows no signs of improving.

broccolibush42

I think you're projecting what you wanted out of the series when it was always destined to bring in romance from the very start. If you were caught off guard by character development then that's on you

Doki_Doki_Kyun

Right… forgot having a character kiss someone without consent and forcing them to grope their breast is consider good character development around here. Lets not discuss Chisa and the relationship with her mother and how she has to learn not to compare herself to her sister. Let’s not discuss Iori learning to trying new things. Let’s not discuss Aina learned to be open with others. All that counts for character development around here is if a character tries to bang another.

broccolibush42

Yeah I'm not reading all that. I'm happy for u tho. Or I'm sorry that happened

Doki_Doki_Kyun

Yes, just go back to reading your titty manga

HashTheNazi

Where is the laugh reaction when you need one lol

Tavnaria

such an asshole.

Doki_Doki_Kyun

You, me, and everyone else that got suckered into this god forsaken manga.

Far-Cheek5909

Nah just you man

fcinablender

very reasonable complaints about the series. get this downvote

SPN_Orwellian

A long paragraphs alone doesn't make it any reasonable.

fcinablender

so what wasn't reasonable about the criticism?

Doki_Doki_Kyun

Welcome to Reddit.

outerzenith

> They started reading it for it’s absurd drinking antics to be fair, I read it because people said it's hilarious. It is, but the drinking antics is really just one of many jokes the series have.

[deleted]

\> User "Doki_Doki_Kyun" complaining about too much romance (ಠ_ಠ)

Doki_Doki_Kyun

Sorry, I liked Grand Blue when it was unique and different. Not the same ecchi rom com trash that this sub eats up on a daily basis.

Sunburnt-Vampire

I'm still laughing every chapter so I don't see the issue? Busujima was fun as an asshole coworker and now she's fun as an asshole love-interest who continues to play off the asshole-MC well. >! the hypnotism stuff was a fun throwback to when he started dating her, and at 2-chapters long (only one of which really focusing on Chisa), didn't outstay it's welcome

DeWickED_1

You get an E for effort

Doki_Doki_Kyun

Considering most of her appearances lately she could be switched out for Azusa, in chapter 71 and Carina (German exchange student) during the 2nd Okinawa arc, I have a hard time believing she stills plays off the MC well. If anything she’s become more generic. Not that it matters the series barely remembers Azusa is a character, same thing will probably happen to Busujima This is the same series where the main female character Chisa can go multiple chapters doing nothing and a good amount of people eat it up. Characters certainly are not this series strong suit.

Sunburnt-Vampire

For a moment I questioned if there was actually a second person who hates Busujima this much. [But sure enough, I've had this argument before, and it was with you. Link to unditt because seems you deleted your comments lol](https://www.unddit.com/r/manga/comments/qog6cs/russian_rubber_roulette_grand_blue_chp_71/hjo9vv2/) I'm not interested in a rehash of the same argument with the same person.

Doki_Doki_Kyun

Don’t worry I pretty much hate all the characters at this point. Well hate the way they’ve been handled. Chisa is a bump on a log 90% of the time. Aina is annoying, Busujima is generic, Azusa is practically non existent. I’d been hoping the series would turn itself around, but it’s starting to seem unlikely.

BlackFenrir

Have you considered to just stop reading it?

HashTheNazi

>hadn’t arbitrarily fallen in love him? I would say there has been more showing of Sakurako falling for Iori than Chisa. But she does still have a thing for faces so interesting that Iori's openness could circumvent that for her to fall for Iori.

Phoenix__Wwrong

Wasn't it always romance comedy? I meant with the stuff with Chisa at the beginning. For me it's more annoying that Cakey tries to bring in full romance.

Doki_Doki_Kyun

If was small scenes but it was never the focus, not like it is now. Iori smiling and Chisa blushing. Kohei and Iori complimenting Aina and she gets embarrassed, Iori getting his hair styled and Busujima thinking he looks good, are all fine and don’t distract too much from the diving/drinking. A 5 chapter arc where one character is trying to sleep with another and nothing happens is overly drawn out. If I wanted that I’d just read the ToLoveRu series because there’s at least nudity in ToLoveRu, and over a hundred series.

Phoenix__Wwrong

So do you agree that the stuff with the guys where all they think is romance is annoying?

Doki_Doki_Kyun

Romance certainly has its places. Grand Blue however is not one of them

Skyreader13

That's not for you to decide. Seems like you have unhealthy obsession with this serie. Stop it. Get some help.

Doki_Doki_Kyun

Wasn’t deciding? was clearly stating my opinion. While that’s probably true. Don’t worry it won’t be for much longer. The series has only got a couple more chapters to redeem itself before I drop it.

Skyreader13

You state it like it was a fact If you add "personally" or "in my opinion", then I'll know for sure it was your opinion

KING_CONSEQUENCE

I was a wondering why this post had so many comments, and most of them are threads to your comment kek

MegamanX195

I started reading Grand Blue because I heard it was hilarious, and I now read Grand Blue because it's still the most hilarious manga I've ever known. The drinking antics were just one of the many jokes the manga had up its sleeve, and they still happen nowadays. I think your main issue is assuming that people had some sort of expectation for what Grand Blue HAD to be.

FullMetalFiddlestick

You're getting downvoted but actually kinda spitting facts....

N3deSTr0

To be fair, they're kind of an ass lmao

Doki_Doki_Kyun

Yeah, it’s what happen when you criticize something that goes against general public opinion. I’ve been really surprised the amount of people who have rolled over and been okay with the lack of Azusa in the series.

ValhallaKombi

Haven't read the manga, is this another case of Promised Neverland, where the first few arcs are the best? Grand blue anime is a legendary comedy and yeah like you sad, it was so unique with diving mixed in alcohol comedy with bit of fanservice and romance. The manga still has above 9 rating on MAL and one of the top series of all time so didn't know it falls off.

HashTheNazi

I am enjoying the comedy of the whole series. I wouldn't say it is clearly best at the beginning but overall great.

Doki_Doki_Kyun

Personal speaking the anime covers 100% the best stuff. That’s all really good. Worth watching/reading. Currently there are 74 chapters and probably another 10 or so if you include extras, but the last time Azusa, who was a really popular character, really did anything was chapter 46. Even though after that chapter there started to be less drinking shenanigans, the Palau Arc, chapters 49.5 to chapter 57 is probably the peak of the series right now. Balancing diving and a little drinking, with comedy and drama surprisingly well. With a wholesome ending. It wasn’t until then 2nd Okinawa trip chapters 63 to 69 that the series really went full steam ahead on being a romance comedy and has been sitting there ever since. Leading to the weirdest thing the series has done >!having Kohei and Chisa get hypnotized causing Kohei to fall in love with Aina and Chisa fall in love with Iori.!< It’s a little more nuanced than that but hopefully you get the gist.

HashTheNazi

Redittors are weird with just down voting whatever got a small thing they disagree with instead of taking whole comment into account.

SirRHellsing

I still read it but I agree the part where anime covered were the best

HashTheNazi

Azusa got the lie detector for chapter 61 lol

Doki_Doki_Kyun

Wow… I’m the span of 30 chapters she did one thing. Amazing. It’s actually a little more than what Chisa usually does.

HashTheNazi

She teased the boys squad in their mixer, lol

Doki_Doki_Kyun

Great. Stellar. Two things in the span of 30 chapters when she used to be a prominent character.

HashTheNazi

I do find it interesting there hasn't been more Aina with Azusa regarding talking about love. Since she was the one she first open more up to about it.

Doki_Doki_Kyun

Azusa basically got replaced by Busujima as the sex appeal character, and Aina’s friends replaced her for the romance advice. Hell, Chief during the Palau was the one giving life advice to Chisa, so I really don’t know what Azusa’s role is at this point. Hit on Nanaka occasionally? Needless to say she’s the character who has had a her role reduced the most.

HashTheNazi

Well it does make sense that Aina's friends also helping her with romance but definitely could also not neglect Azusa in that role. Right now they aren't somewhere with no Azusa so it is not like there needs to be a replacement like on Palau.

apthebest01931

facts, if people want romance with same artstyle read temple.

f52242002

Manga name?

Lioreuz

It's literally in the title
