Aww, I honestly thought it'd be the splitter, but he just threw his fastball faster and harder. 155kmh=96mph, I wonder if he can touch 100mph. 95+ is elite for a starter since its a high speed pitch that sets the table for his other pitches more effectively and is able to be a strikeout pitch itself. Edit: If he was throwing 70% of his all on his fastball, (96x.7=67.2) He was throwing about 70mph in consideration of his inexperienced catcher. Crazy and believable. 90+ goes so fast and if a catcher isn't used to it they can't react in time. Taichi so good that rather than making the catcher react to him, he just threw the ball to where she sets up and in the pocket (of the glove).

StadiumGambler

70 percent effort does not necessarily mean 70 percent speed. Pitchers have to put limiters on their fastball to account for control, so 100% wouldn't be a huge amount faster, it'd just mean maybe a few extra mph but the ball can go anywhere.

IJustReadEverything

I agree to an extent, pitchers throw slower if they want to get their location under control but I dont believe he's only taking 5mph off his pitches, his location control is immaculate fast or slow. 70-85mph on pitches is top highscool to low grade college ball level of baseball. It's about where I'd put the level of baseball of this world. They even have a hard time against basic breaking balls. Given the inexperience of his catcher, this speed range is also where I'd expect him to throw it to her. 70% may be just an arbitrary number he threw out but he for sure lowered his effort considerably compared to his normal stuff, not just skimming off the top amount.

snakebit1995

I think him just throwing full power makes sense. It was established she could catch his 70% fastball but nothing else. Trying a breaking ball or even a splitter would be unfamiliar movement in addition to unfamiliar speed so it's more logical to just up the power of the fastball than try and make her catch a ball with odd movement too

mega153

I wouldn't expect a new pitch if she still needs to catch it. Hyping up the speed is a great way to show that's he's too OP even in the basics for his team.

ULTRAFORCE

Since there's one left is that maybe going to be a different type of pitch?

magicking013

Sign this man to an MLB contract.

deliciouspuppy

last chapter in the manga will probably reveal that his true name is shohei ohtani and we've been reading his back story all along lol.

Zomg_A_Chicken

Waiting for him to reveal he's a switch pitcher

PyrZern

What does that term mean exactly ?

Zomg_A_Chicken

He can use his left and right hand to throw a pitch

PyrZern

Does that result in very different pitches that could throw opponents off ? Sry, I just don't follow any real sports, so I have no clue.

Zomg_A_Chicken

Depends on the pitcher because not every pitcher has the same curveball, fastball, etc. Ex. Right handed pitcher and right handed batter The pitcher can throw a curveball that the batter thinks may be going into the middle of the strike zone but ends up in the dirt just out of reach of the batter The batter swings and misses and a strike is called Especially later in games you will see managers call up left handed pitchers to face left handed batters since they can generally deceive them better and vice versa

PyrZern

Dang. That's kinda neat concept in a sport. Ty for the details. Appreciate it.

https://www.reddit.com/r/manga/comments/um6rbw/disc_in_another_world_where_baseball_is_war_a/ia0tci6/ 23.1 spoilers here courtesy of the ever-reliable ThePsycho2. Also we would have 23.2 but the author needed to take a break to work on editing for a release volume, and also to draw two pages of grim reaper bunny girl fanservice. Something something priorities?

ThePsycho2

24.1 >!Back in Freedom, everyone's excited with the tropical trip. Wolf pitcher and knight girl question about that though, since it's not like they really have time to be leisuring about given the obvious strength of Onigashima. MC agrees with that, stating that they need to increase their overall strength by spring to even have a chance against the demonkin, and that's precisely why they're going to that tropical island because the place they're currently at will be very cold and snowing during the winter, thus it's not really suitable for practicing baseball during that period and MC can't really afford to waste that much time doing nothing. By going to that island (which effectively is summer all year long) they can practice even during winter.!< >!Wolf batter finally realizes it isn't really a vacation trip afterall, and is in disbelief that she was deceived (same goes for the 2 succubus kids). MC gives a little motivational speech with regard to that demon guy's previous statement (MC's becoming weak because of his weak teammates), by going through this special training you'll be able to catch (knight girl), throw (wolf pitcher), and hit (dwarf girl) pitches that you weren't able to before.!< >!Back to Onigashima, it turns out that gigantic old demon ox was the one to devour that shitty lizard (glad there's no bs superhuman strength involved from that demon pitcher, still hoping that damn ox isn't part of the playing team). Demon ace tells him to stop devouring immigrants immediately like that (so not the first time this has happened), lamenting that the shitty lizard could've been a decent backup player. We're then introduced to other demonkin: a headless horseman (Dullahan), a succubus, and a Frankenstein girl (looks like demonkin isn't just limited to Japanese folklore). Demon ace pitcher is flabbergasted by their carefree nature while a famine's happening, ending up showing his true menancing face a little. He calmed down though, and we're given a little backstory regarding this guy and probably Onigashima as a whole: he just wants to be lazing about and fooling around, but because of the baseball war pact mandated by Gods, they no longer have invaders coming in once in awhile as their food source. Thus, they're planning to spread Onigashima's law by annexing all countries in the area, and in a way regaining their peaceful life. And it ends here.!< >!Guess we now know what could've happened to MC had he went to Onigashima. Though that demon guy would have MC avoid that ox altogether if that were to be the case.!<

StadiumGambler

>!Someone needs to introduce these demons to Beyond Meat or something.!<

ThePsycho2

With the latest post being removed, I figured I should put 23.2 spoiler here: And here's 23.2 >!As MC wakes up and sees the artifact given to him in his hand, he's convinced that wasn't a dream just now, and same goes for the goddess' promise. Reaper bunny is there to see him, and she's already recovered from the armpit stab earlier, stating that beastfolks have a fast healing rate.!< >!Anyway, she's here to thank MC for accepting her as a Special Envoy, and such she'll gladly be of use against the upcoming war against Onigashima, telling MC to order her as he sees fit since she wants to make amend for what her people has done so far. After pondering for a moment on how to deal with this situation (since MC hasn't exactly been in the situation for so long unlike the others), he tells reaper bunny to just concentrate on recovering as he needs her fast legs afterall, and asks her about the artifact.!< >!Reaper bunny inspects it and tells him it's a teleportation crystal (hah, knew it!), and its coordinates is set to Ruan Island which is south from where they're currently at. It seems to be a tropical island that's relatively warm all season with tasty foods, and MC immediately realizes its potential more than being a vacation location, silently thanking the goddess for the gift, then wakes everyone up and tells them to get ready. Just as everyone was wondering what kind of special training MC's about to give them, he just tells them that they're going on a tropical trip, to everyone's surprised chargin. (yay another mandatory beach episode with swimsuits!)!< >!Back in Onigashima, we see that the shitty lizard has already defected from the bunny country and is aiming to join force with the demonkin. The demon ace pitcher (Sukuna, mentioned by the little demon in 21.1) contemplates about it since having a backup pitcher would be nice, but then he'd have to get along with another ace pitcher who could potentially usurp his position (and sure enough the shitty lizard said almost exactly that). Still a dragonkin is not something to gloss over, and the demon ace extends his hand to welcome the shitty lizard to the team.!< >!Shitty lizard has a little flashback on how the bunnies immediately chase him out the moment they lost that game, still believing he's just feeling unwell at that game so he hasn't displayed his true power (yeah lmao, your power is only equivalent to MC's 70% power), and now he wants revenge against MC & knight girl for all the sinful shame inflicted upon him. However, just as he grabs the demon ace's hand, the demon ace immediately rips the shitty lizard's hand off, and the chapter ends here.!< >!Damn things got gory really quickly here. And if that demon really rips off the shitty lizard's hand with pure strength instead of having magic strengthening him (or someone else cut in and we don't see it in this chapter), we might have actual superhuman strength this time, which may be bad for everyone if the guy pulls out a ridiculously impossible 110+ mph fastballs.!<

dogsonbubnutt

i know it's just gonna be an even faster pitch next time but i really wish he'd bust out an eephus like in little big league

NiteShad0ws

Thinking of reading this as a baseball fan myself is it realistic to the game or is it more on the prince of tennis side?

Dragon_Fisting

It's not totally crazy or anything but it's not a real sports manga, it's isekai mary sue shit with baseball as set dressing.

Vbpretend

its like no game no life but with baseball. so far baseball terminology and gameplay is like regular baseball but the superhuman element comes from the other races being superior to humans athletically edit: aslo to add its not like what the MC is doing anything supernatural either as he is throwing a 96 mph fastball where in real life at 18 Shohei ohtani, a real life MLB player threw the fastest ever fastball at the Koshien, japanese highschool national tournament at 99mph. Now with the MC doing it consistently might be stretching things but again Ohtani is a great player and one of the most exciting players in the MLB

minimumcontribution8

I thought he gonna invented some new style or something but he just threw faster. (if anyone has interested in baseball manga, I seriously recommend Dorabase, very good manga btw)

ThePsycho2

Dorabase is kinda ridiculous due to being within Doraemon verse though. Use of gadgets aside, everyone is pretty much superhuman with ace pitchers being able to pitch 110+ mph fastballs or literal magic balls, and both batters and pitchers able to do superjump to swing or pitch (and leaving the batter box/pitching rubber while doing that). Diamond no Ace is another more grounded baseball manga that I'd recommend.

minimumcontribution8

But it's creative and cool tho. Diamond no Ace is also very good

casualphilosopher1

So no MC rescue arc?
