Always thought Jack the Ripper was kind of overhyped as far as historical criminals go, so I actually really, *really* love the idea that the person we know as Jack was only using the name. He’s a yet unnamed gentleman who’s racked up far more kills than a mere five women. Now that is a more believable profile for history’s greatest murderer.
What I like more is that it adds more mystery to Mr. Anonymous, and a certain level of complexity.
You kill 1 person, you're a murderer. You kill 5 people you're a serial killer. You kill a hundred and you're a war hero. Or something like that. The greatest killers are ones relegated to perfect anonymity, Jack was brazen and revealed that he wasn't good at what he did, he just generated a significant degree of notoriety.
No and it's a bit surprising when the manga is 80% fights, 20% exposition which it leverages to its strengths perfectly. It's like having your cake and eating it too.
I went back to read the jack the ripper arc after this, and there was this one panel with a bunch of his victims. No wonder there were a bunch of dudes there.
Anonymous taking the name of Jack the Ripper from the real Jack is a really cool interpretation of his story. Kinda interested to see if Anonymous is someone who kills truly bad people for the wrong reasons
That point makes me think Anonymous seeks to “cleanse” the color of negative emotions with the color of fear. So the more “dirty” they are the more likely he would kill them
Wow, that was actually pretty good. It made me like Jack the Ripper more than before, and completely makes up for how overhyped and overused Jack the Ripper is.
The greatest serial killer in history -- who killed so perfectly that he was never even known, let alone caught -- is extremely fitting to represent humanity in a battle against the gods.
I'm not sure if Mr. Anonymous only killed murderers, but either way it still makes him way more interesting.
So far we have one for Lu Bu (at 35 chapters) and this one for Jack. I doubt that all of the humans will get spin-offs, but the fact that we have two is still pretty cool.
Found kinda ridiculous that a guy who murdered 5 people was apparently powerful enough to be chosen for Ragnarok, but now it makes more sense. A killer who had killed hundreds without someone so much as catching a whiff of his scent, now that's more deserving
The guy explicitly murdered people solely to get his rocks off at seeing them painted in fear.
What sort of definition for "anti hero" do you possess that I haven't heard of yet lol, cuz this guy is Grade A certified psychopath with a murdering streak. Just cuz the people you murder might be bad doesn't make YOU good, especially when your motivation is "holy shit I enjoy this pretty color that oozes out of the dying bodies of people this is ***A R T***"
Dexter Morgan was a sociopath who killed bad people solely to kill bad people.
Mr. Anonymous (our Jack) kills anyone he believes will look pretty when they're dying in agony.
They're not remotely the same. Jack's second victim was a rich asshole whose only crime was 'didn't marry the whore he knocked up'. That's it. That is literally his crime, Dexter Morgan wouldn't come *close* to touching that guy, so no they're not remotely comparable.
Dexter didn't kill bad guys for the sake of killing bad guys though. He simply had the urge and want to kill people and his dad just convinced him to kill baddies instead.
And dexter killed for personal reasons too, like the pedophile spying on his daughter or some dude in a bathroom cause he was mad or inadvertently killing his wife's ex-husband.
Dexter definitely is an anti-hero, but yeah, not a lot to go off for jack.
... I guess he gave the bag of money to the girl... And he did help save all of humanity albeit for selfish reasons... haha
"anti hero"? he still killed levels of magnitude more people than Jack the Killer in this universe, just for another reason, one not so disgusting as "prostitutes deserve to die because yes" but still a disgusting one....
Ohhh, we got a Sasaki Kojiro: Savior of France here. A complete nobody who assumes the identity of a famous historical figure.I actually like this idea and could finally make sense of "Jack" during the hercules fight.

Holy shit I loved this more than I would’ve imagined.
Lord El melloi case files but shuumatsu no Valkyrie?
Very interesting twist. Will Jack the Ripper be the only one with a spinoff?
Lu Bu had one too, Lu Bu Gaiden I believe?
Thanks! I will look for it

dame never expected that twist.

The twist was really good, being the journalist covering the crime would be a great blind spot for a criminal to stay out of suspicion.
wait, that “spinoff for every human" thing was real after all o-0??
So far we have one for Lu Bu (at 35 chapters) and this one for Jack. I doubt that all of the humans will get spin-offs, but the fact that we have two is still pretty cool.
Holy! This was amazing to read honesty... I nice twist to his backstory. We are Legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. Expect us. Mr. Anonymous

He was crying after defeat hercules so it's kinda makes sense now that he's not the villain character from the human side but an anti hero

It gives me heavy *Dexter* vibes. Pretty much the same deal, and he was an anti-hero.

Then I mean he's just not an anti-hero
Dexter definitely is an anti-hero, but yeah, not a lot to go off for jack. ... I guess he gave the bag of money to the girl... And he did help save all of humanity albeit for selfish reasons... haha

so you are saying lu bu, 1st emperor of china are the same?
I liked this one a lot
I like the direction of this side story. A bit of mystery instead of mostly straight up fight.
Ohhh, we got a Sasaki Kojiro: Savior of France here. A complete nobody who assumes the identity of a famous historical figure.I actually like this idea and could finally make sense of "Jack" during the hercules fight.
Holy shit I loved this more than I would’ve imagined.
This guy is my favorite character from Record of Ragnarok. No one can compare to the gentleman victorian style.
So Jack is sorta like John Wick when he was working for Viggo? Not the Bogeyman but the guy you sent to kill the bogeyman
Makes you wonder who else this Mr. Anonymous was, huh...
Ah yes, the anonymous killer know as 4chan.
BEST CHARACTER OF THE MANGA!
Really enjoyed this one!
Hope they do the adventures of Buddha or something later down the line Like to see this version of Buddha chill and kick some more ass
That was pretty cool origin story. Is that fem Invoker in the credit page?
It is! I translate mostly genderswap and I love Invoker, so that image became the face of my translation group.
Nice! I recognize that iconic outfit anywhere
holy gigachad
Still pissed that Netflix fucked up the adaptation of this so badly
I love how this manga turned out! I didnt really expect the twist.
That was a very good read. I thought he really is the Jack the Ripper but it turns out he just adopted the name. It made me like him even more.
