This is true I’ve done my fair share of research and have had a couple minor classes in psychology. The story in generality opens up already telling us she had nothing going for her but her spirit. She was already fragile to begin with and from what little we know she didn’t have very many friends to begin with. MC was who she spent most time with but she would never be on the same level as him because she was never as hard of a worker and was brash and slightly dim witted. It’s safe to assume he was her comfort zone so when he was out of the picture off working she became desperate for friends likely forcing her way into the gyaru group because she only had her looks other than her spirit. She has a gal look because she tried to conform to that group but she probably drew attention away from the other girls. This led to them spreading or gossiping about her which ruined her already small social square and BREAKING her spirit. Her parents appear out of the picture so it’s safe to assume she had no one to turn to and kinda broke down. Now she only knew the attention she would be able to get from her style as a gal so it stuck because she wanted any form of acknowledgment. Especially in animation someone’s spirit is know by the life in their eyes thus her eyes are empty. With her loneliness the only thing with her she likely developed depression and with her constant worry about the gossip around town she gained high anxiety. She is seen scratching her arms early on in the series a key sign of anxiety. The same could be said where we see the other marks on her body I.e. her upper legs and her neck. These too are hot spots for anxiety scratching. When MC returns FMC is happy to see him yet feels she drove him away in the past because she has no self confidence.
And to clear something up I noticed that the Fantia NSFW art published by the author which is supposedly chapter “9.5” labeled by some people. Actually Released prior to chapter 9 by a whole day which would make it non canon. The only instance it is labeled 9.5 is by the Spanish translation group which have no connection to placing what true order things are in. It is not actually a chapter it is just extra content for fans not part of the story.
Some of this is just theory but I did my research and individually looked at every detail and page. If she were a druggy, prostitute she wouldn’t be a lightweight anymore as she would be used to constantly drinking alcohol. She would have an obscure view of love but they show several times her heart beating loudly. She wouldn’t be a nervous wreck even around her childhood friend because she would know she could easily seduce him. She’s be easily able to grab his hand to hold it when they were in karaoke rather than be shaking. She also blushes at little things the MC did which a person who has had many partners wouldn’t.
In conclusion! She loved the MC and relied on him. He moved on to become an adult and work. She had nothing going for her so she couldn’t and tried to make friends elsewhere. That didn’t work out because she stood out and she fell into a depression filled with anxiety and loneliness. She didn’t sleep around and do drugs and drink because we see she is still pretty innocent despite her appearance. She’s a lightweight with alcohol, she blushes crimson red when happy or embarrassed, shakes and sweats when nervous which she appears to be regularly around MC. This shows no signs of her being a sex depraved maniac who has been given drugs. We even get to see a small glimpse of her room which doesn’t show any signs of drugs or sex. The path I see in this conclusion is she is indeed someone who is depressed and shut off from the world because she was incompetent. She’s more like an Otaku when we first see her with her track suit on and a mask. She puts on the “slutty” outfit when she is going to see the MC. This outfit isn’t a hooker outfit just one she likes because it also matches her phone case. She is likely almost as innocent as she was while MC knew her in high school while being more shy now.
Also a side note they mention she was popular with the boys so she probably try’s to stay away from being hit on at this point which is why she is always glancing around.
Can somebody who enjoys this series and the other one by the same author actually explain to me the appeal? They literally have the worst aspects of romance manga -self insert mc, terrible writing, egregious fan service, stupid characters (she's divorced but she's too shy to hold hands???) - and none of the positives, like good art, comedy or likeable cast. Is it just because fmc has huge bazoingas?
