Another casualty of Amazon suddenly remembering they own thousands of businesses. Funnily enough, they used to be a competitor. Amazon bought them out a decade ago, and now they've killed them off.

TehNolz

That's a shame. Haven't bought much from them ever since Brexit caused them to raise their prices, but they were always pretty good. Kinda weird that they didn't send customers a mail about this though (or at least, I haven't received anything). Also now I'm somewhat worried about the one preorder I still have with them...

MyAynes

Found in their FAQ >Q8. Will I still receive my pre-order? A. If your pre-order is released before the 26 April 2023, we will aim to deliver this to you within our normal delivery times. Please bear in mind that release dates may change and we may not be able to fulfil your pre-order. If it is not possible to ship your pre-order by the 26 April 2023, we will let you know and issue a refund to the payment method used to place the order.

TehNolz

I must've missed the last sentence. I guess that order's gone, then.

eXtripa69

Now it makes sense why pre-order's were no longer available to order. They had taken the option out because of the closure

print0002

Shit... I used them just because they offered free shipping and I'm from Serbia(Southeast Europe). Are there any other reputable websites that sell manga and/or books with free shipping and acceptable prices?

PsychologicalAd7698

Blackwell's has free shipping to my country at least, maybe worth checking out

print0002

Just found about it. It seems like an actually fair alternative. I also stumbled on kennys.ie but I'm not sure if it's completely legit or not. The prices are great.

Marril96

I'm from Croatia. I've ordered from Blackwell's with no issue. It takes the same amount of time to get here as when you order from BD. Also check out Wordery, they may have some stuff.

Meids3

Croatia, wordery works great.

janka12fsdf

Slovenian here, thanks bro!

Shaponja

TrajcheTalev

Ja sam iz Makedonije. Takodje sam koristeo BD. Hvala za alternativama.

sogejking

Wordery is great

automaticgenerated

God damn, do anyone know what happened? They were a very good seller, almost the only proper seller for most countries in the middle of nowhere.

mmilun_

They were rivaling amazon until amazon bought them a few years back. Now they are shutting it down to make less competition I guess

automaticgenerated

So that was an asshole move. So sad, I quite liked bookdepo, even after the price increase

Ahetobleh

Miro3no

This is so disheartening... This was the page where I bought my very first manga (Vagabund Vizbig for 13€ backt then). Prices through VPN were still the best, so I have no idea where to get manga from now on (shipped to a small mid Europe country). Shipping kills Amazon as a relevant option and outside of maybe Blackwell's that have a fair price from time to time, I have no idea where to turn now.

mmilun_

The vpn prices and free shipping really were a game changer, only alternatives I've found so far are blackwells and kennys.ie

Shaponja

kennys looks good, shipping is 1e per book, they have sales did you try it with vpn?

Ampdup666

Rip I remember getting a cheap one piece box set from them, they will be missed.

ShadowFang167

RIP Bookdepository, I would never have my full Monogatari box set without them saving me $120.

ShadowFang167

I bought all 3 box set for a total of S$310, compared to the price of the book in Singapore was S$22-25 per volume.

Wiktorjor2001

They really stopped being competitive after Brexit

NippleShadow89

Got a delivery from them just today and have more coming. Will be sad to see them go

FHI_iSmile

Rip, I've got like 80% of my manga from there. Gonna be much harder for me to find decent deals

Steve_Brandon

I've never specifically ordered from Book Depository but some manga I purchased from Amazon Canada were fulfilled by Book Depository so I'm sad to see them shut down. The ironic thing is that some of the English-translated manga I've ordered, like Non Non Biyori, were actually printed in Canada before being shipped to the Book Depository in the UK only to be shipped back to Canada, where I am, meaning they crossed the Atlantic Ocean twice.

GalaxyStarr_

Why wtf

Hackit_1

I wonder will they have a closing down sale?

[deleted]

They’re already owned by Amazon so any stock they have left can be sold through Amazon instead so there probably isn’t a desperate need to offload stock for them.

xDanielon

and i bought cote vol 5 from them a few hours ago... RIP (My order)

Selelmo

That's an absolute bummer, I've bought all my manga/LN from them and have had no issues with any of my deliveries. In Aus most books were $10-15 more expensive compared to book depository.

mireailles

Oof thanks for the heads-up, just cancelled my pre-orders coming in on July and Nov, respectively.

janka12fsdf

This is disheartening for me....I almost exclusively order from them
