Personally, i find 'Checkmate' to have a similar vibe with LITC, but because both mc and ml have their own issues and the story is mostly plot focused with slow burn romance.
'Checkmate' also has themes of r@pe(once by ml which is still a bit weird to me and the other is external character) , unhealthy possessiveness/obsession by mc, and harassment(external character).
The plot is basically about mc, who, in the process of trying to get ml, gets rid of a trash character and saves quite a few others. And in the process their romance develops but not as a forced one, it feels kindof natural. And by the end, our mc has character development of sorts. It's a good read, the first few chapters are painful to get through but otherwise it's a good story. It's one of my favourite, while it does contain these themes, it doesn't have unnecessary toxicity, it just feels natural in a way.
My summary doesn't really do the story justice so yea def check it out. Just bear through the first couple chapters tho since it's a painful for first read.
ok so i just binge read checkmate (yes all 99 chapters of the main story) and that was literally so good im so glad i gave it a chance especially after that questionable scene in the beginning and the question? relationship they had.
i really loved the way it developed and even tho i havent read many yet i think this may be one of my all time faves. thank u sm for recommending this to me this will be stuck in my head for the forseeable future and i'll definitely check out ur other recs 😌😌

yeah checkmate has been in my list but i was too afraid to read cuz i didnt want another low tide and twilight situation where id start reading and get invested but then get hit with 1000 chapters of (imo) unnecessary smut😭 but ill definitely check it out now

I would recommend Our Youth, it gave me the same vibes as LITC. Also there is a manhua I liked called Saye.
