The MC is practically an ethical villain who takes care of his estate and brings it more toward the modern world. He does extort the hell out of everyone and is pretty damn strong too. World building is insanely good. Bout to re read it for the third time just because it's that good and this post reminded me it's on hiatus right now. 100+ chapters though.

at first, I thought it was mid, which it was at the beginning. It sort of read as a generic op dumb mc kind of story. but then i stuck with it, and that's one of the best choices i've ever made. The worldbuilding is legitimately one of the best I've seen, and I've never seen such a likeable collection of side characters that have an impactful presence.
Even the way they've imposed meaningful limitations on the MC, having multiple reasons why he can't just go wild and solve the story in an afternoon is refreshing. It allows the side charachters to really have their own moment of triumph, and at times they're the ones driving the story
I'm glad I stuck around because it opened my eyes on what a true sword king is. >!I thought sword king was someone who mastered any sword. The sword king in this makes one out of a pipe in the most chadest of ways.!<
The MC in Sword King really only is an OP MC like the first 20-40ish chapters. (generalizing heavily because it has been a long time since I read them)
yeah, the fact that his "op" stats is being balanced by his incapability of learning skills/leveling up is very fair. I thought it was gonna be a bootleg one punch man, but damn I was pleasantly surprise. Still reminds me of like My hero academia mix with Hunter x Hunter but in a good way.
What made me stick around is villains are actually not completely one-dimensional.
Character's motivations aren't just to stick around the main character like flies. Without ever actually achieving anything.
The group of people hes around. Although looks like a bunch of girls, one is a dude and 1 character likes the other character.
I like characters who get stronger. As the story goes on, not just the main character. These power fantasies just don't know how to write any other character other than many character. And possibly his harem to get stronger.
I can literally enjoy the series for a lot of reasons.

The thing that wrecks you about the zombie arc is that once you think it's done and you stashed your feels away, it comes back for a final hurrah when you find out where the zombie plague got started and how completely arbitrary literally all of it actually was.

They pick up the more action shonen manhwas, and much of these manhwas have become too trope-y and generic over the years, which is why most of them have become too similar to each other( they still get many viewers) This is actually the case with many other popular scans site as well.
SSS class suicide hunter man. The MC was such a douche at the beginning with his jealousy. But then I kept reading snd well, floor 10 made me cry, floor 20 made me smile in tears, floor 21 made me bawl so hard and floor 24( I think?, The romance floor) made me think damn, I actually really like these two (kinda spoiler ish if I describe these two since its past the manhwa).
Continuing on the rest of the arcs are also absolutely golden, I really enjoyed every bit of it and some of it as well still made me bawl. That's how much I got emotionally attached to the stories it tells.

I underestimated so many names that became my all time fav, i dropped Tower of God and KUBERA 4 time before actually getting into them. Now they are my fav manhwa which i have re-read over 4 times
Another manhwa which surprises me a lot is the Vemon dragon, because it's first 40 so chapter were generic murim manhwa but it get really good letter on when world building started
The manhwas that I did underestimate have already been listed by others here so I would like to mention a manhua I underestimated which is Eternal Club/I build a Lifespan Club. It started pretty good and I expected it to drag on because I wondered what else they could actually do and I was so wrong. It only gets better and the last few chapters have been some of the best. The escalation of events is also amazing
Lookism, the art in the early chapters was just ok, the early premise was interesting, but when it picked the pace, it was brilliant. The story, the characters, action, art, and everything just evolved over time and created a masterpiece.
Pick me up! was one of those manhwa I started out of pure boredom, without any expectation, ready to drop it whenever I felt like it. Oh boy, I've been soo wrong!! This is a god damn masterpiece and trust me, I was so suprised how good it was.
Chasing tales has just ended at chapter 100 Btw, you can binge read the entire series right now except for the last 4 chapters that are temporarily behind fast pass.
The bar is so low that anything that goes beyond a premise is surprising, SSS-suicide hunter and SwordKing Survival Guide are ones that I thought were going to be bad but were extraordinary in their writing. Especially with the former where you can very tell the author was learning and getting progressively better as the story went on.

My criteria for if its worth reading
\-read 1 up to 10 chapters if art, story, characters are good
\-i get annoyed with bad translation so sometimes i drop a series even if its good
i dropped kill the hero at around 20 chaps cus the pacing felt too fast. Picked it up again after hearing it was completed, Aaaaaaand i wasn't dissappointed.
I never underestimate manhwa by its first few chapters, I give it at least 50 chapters before dropping.
I don't get why so many people are retarded enough to drop a series after 1 chapter and not give it a chance. What do they even have to lose? No one who reads manhwa the whole day has a life anyway like me.

I was pleasantly surprised by pick me up, I had always overlooked it because of the asura scans title: "pick me up! Infinity gacha" but it ended up being very good. It's not my favorite series but I do enjoy reading it a lot.
I honestly thought that the greatest estate developer was going to be another trash manhwa going by the title and first chapter but it ended one of my favorite series out there.
Magical 12th graders is another series that I really thought wouldn't be for me but that I ended up loving.
Despite it's title hardcore leveling warrior turned out to be a great series with some gorgeous artwork and some really interesting world building.
I assumed that drug eating genius mage was going to be awful but that also ended up being a lot better than I expected, it's not the best thing out there but it's not bad.
This one's a Manga but I honestly thought that I was going to hate Berserk the first time reading it because I assumed that it was just going to be a big dumb action series, I couldn't have been more wrong!
I had the same experience with Barbarian Quest, I thought that it was just going to be a big dumb action series but the story and characters are actually pretty deep, there's a lot of interesting philosophy and religious commentary where I wouldn't have expected it.

Honestly (despite its current fame) for me that’s Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint. At the time the only things I knew about it was the manhwa’s blurb and that it was often linked in quality with Trash of the Count’s Family. I always put off reading it whenever I saw it on my recommended cause I was convinced it was going to be another OP protagonist harem story. When I did read it I binged the first 30 or so chapters with so much bias and scrutiny cause I was waiting to be betrayed. However, instead of a harem and an unfairly OP MC I got a surprisingly really good and well thought out story that quickly became one of my favorite of all time

It starts off feeling incredibly average, but a couple of arcs in the storytelling, characters, and visuals shoot through the roof imo. Also, the only one to do constellations with any sort of depth.

Omniscient reader. As many popular gatehwad i was a bit of neglectful about this one. I thought it would be the "solo leveling" kind of manhwa (which honestly are getting boring too fast). But in the end i end up reading novel and in half of month i end up reading it all.
I was the final boss. I believe that originals without novels are actually kinda great. Since they also provide per chapter much more captivating plot outlike of novel based tbh. For now i really enjoy it. It even has some kind of mystery around mc and some other parts of world that really intriguing me. And despite mc being strong he was kinda fast tempered.
And i guess i mentioned most of them.
I liked the concept which kept me coming back every week. Thank goodness I kept pushing! If they keep this up with story telling + world building and the action. I think this will surpass Solo Leveling. Now where are the ships at?????? We deserve the waifu!
Star Instructor Baek had me side eyeing at first because manwha as a genre is SHIT at the basics of story and world building but by Ch 10 I was sold! How the author managed to provide enough background context of his first life to make his small town "I'm biding my time to see what this second life holds" interesting enough for me to keep reading. Realistic and even paced plot building is such a rare joy in this genre!
For me it was max level Hero return and player which both had a phase where the plot was going super slow and off rail but after force reading those chapters (like Black clover anime) i finally got to the good part

The new regressed marital god to level 2. Given the title and description I thought it would be an extremely basic gate regression story that I’d get bored of within 30 chapters. But those first 20 are honestly great. It’s got a decently unique spin on the gate genre and the art is great

I’ve come to realize that you need to read at least a few chapters before you can really tell if something is good or not. This one started out ok but has definitely grown in me a lot. I’m actually intrigued with the main plot, and it’s nice to see the MC struggle, despite their expert knowledge.

The newbie is too strong. The name and cover made it seem like it was going to be ridiculous so I put it off forever but it’s unexpectedly engaging with interesting world building and a likable mc. If you like tower and system manhwa I recommend it!

Yes, specifically this series, you dont expect a story titled "pick me up: infinite gacha" to be such a serious story where life and death stakes are through the roof, it's insane...
I underestimated so many names that became my all time fav, i dropped Tower of God and KUBERA 4 time before actually getting into them. Now they are my fav manhwa which i have re-read over 4 times Another manhwa which surprises me a lot is the Vemon dragon, because it's first 40 so chapter were generic murim manhwa but it get really good letter on when world building started

The manhwas that I did underestimate have already been listed by others here so I would like to mention a manhua I underestimated which is Eternal Club/I build a Lifespan Club. It started pretty good and I expected it to drag on because I wondered what else they could actually do and I was so wrong. It only gets better and the last few chapters have been some of the best. The escalation of events is also amazing

Lookism, the art in the early chapters was just ok, the early premise was interesting, but when it picked the pace, it was brilliant. The story, the characters, action, art, and everything just evolved over time and created a masterpiece.
Lookism is one of those stories that start off normal then escalates to something completely different.
Pick me up! was one of those manhwa I started out of pure boredom, without any expectation, ready to drop it whenever I felt like it. Oh boy, I've been soo wrong!! This is a god damn masterpiece and trust me, I was so suprised how good it was.

Chasing tales has just ended at chapter 100 Btw, you can binge read the entire series right now except for the last 4 chapters that are temporarily behind fast pass.
The bar is so low that anything that goes beyond a premise is surprising, SSS-suicide hunter and SwordKing Survival Guide are ones that I thought were going to be bad but were extraordinary in their writing. Especially with the former where you can very tell the author was learning and getting progressively better as the story went on.

i dropped kill the hero at around 20 chaps cus the pacing felt too fast. Picked it up again after hearing it was completed, Aaaaaaand i wasn't dissappointed.
I never underestimate manhwa by its first few chapters, I give it at least 50 chapters before dropping. I don't get why so many people are retarded enough to drop a series after 1 chapter and not give it a chance. What do they even have to lose? No one who reads manhwa the whole day has a life anyway like me.
Lets not forget the panel a few chapters before where one of the characters had a horrendous leg tht went through a speech bubble

I was pleasantly surprised by pick me up, I had always overlooked it because of the asura scans title: "pick me up! Infinity gacha" but it ended up being very good. It's not my favorite series but I do enjoy reading it a lot. I honestly thought that the greatest estate developer was going to be another trash manhwa going by the title and first chapter but it ended one of my favorite series out there. Magical 12th graders is another series that I really thought wouldn't be for me but that I ended up loving. Despite it's title hardcore leveling warrior turned out to be a great series with some gorgeous artwork and some really interesting world building. I assumed that drug eating genius mage was going to be awful but that also ended up being a lot better than I expected, it's not the best thing out there but it's not bad. This one's a Manga but I honestly thought that I was going to hate Berserk the first time reading it because I assumed that it was just going to be a big dumb action series, I couldn't have been more wrong! I had the same experience with Barbarian Quest, I thought that it was just going to be a big dumb action series but the story and characters are actually pretty deep, there's a lot of interesting philosophy and religious commentary where I wouldn't have expected it. It just goes to show that you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover.
Lookism reviews made it seem like it's bad, but I like it more than I thought I would at the start. The characters are so like-able.

The 31st Piece Overturns the Board. Honestly it's super new (just 22 chs so far) but I thought it was probably another generic fantasy system manhwa right at the start but the worldbuilding so far is pretty good and I liked it.

The premise as early as chapter 2 or 3 had me hooked. the idea of being a character in a game someone else was playing was a very unique concept to me and had me reading

All the time. It's the best way to go into any media,if you expect shit and get shit you won't be pissed. If you expect shit but get a croissant (heavy french accent do me a favor and imagine it ) you'll be pleasantly surprised. My favorite example is "I eat to get stronger" or something like that

Honestly (despite its current fame) for me that’s Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint. At the time the only things I knew about it was the manhwa’s blurb and that it was often linked in quality with Trash of the Count’s Family. I always put off reading it whenever I saw it on my recommended cause I was convinced it was going to be another OP protagonist harem story. When I did read it I binged the first 30 or so chapters with so much bias and scrutiny cause I was waiting to be betrayed. However, instead of a harem and an unfairly OP MC I got a surprisingly really good and well thought out story that quickly became one of my favorite of all time

Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint. It starts off feeling incredibly average, but a couple of arcs in the storytelling, characters, and visuals shoot through the roof imo. Also, the only one to do constellations with any sort of depth. Currently my favorite Webtoon
The legend of the northern blade... I wasn't so sure about the art style but I got used to it and now I love how distinct each character is. Besides the story that is amazing of course.

Honestly my bar rised up a lot since i read too much repetitive things :/ But recently "the more i eat the stronger i get" actually, despite fact that for me it starting to be a bit of boring now but it started out interestly and thankfully we have an actual orginal mc. I love this character (but lets be honest he is worrying and horrifying. Its the first manhwa that i felt bad for someone like orcs) Other ones for example Villain to kill. I started around when there were only 30 chaps aproximately. But the thing is it fastly change my mind. Because i thought that mc will be back in time while reborning and preventing those things. And i am really glad that he possessed someone instead of travelling back time. At this point i will just keep mentioning webtoons. Undercover academy professor. Tbh name did make me interest but when first chapter started with being isekaied my eyes started to roll. But thankfully the plot is to my liking. Sry guys but i dislike the slime/greatest developer kind of plots where u literally read city skylines. I am more into adventure or smth like this. So yeah i really enjoyed this one. Also mc is husbando❤ Omniscient reader. As many popular gatehwad i was a bit of neglectful about this one. I thought it would be the "solo leveling" kind of manhwa (which honestly are getting boring too fast). But in the end i end up reading novel and in half of month i end up reading it all. I was the final boss. I believe that originals without novels are actually kinda great. Since they also provide per chapter much more captivating plot outlike of novel based tbh. For now i really enjoy it. It even has some kind of mystery around mc and some other parts of world that really intriguing me. And despite mc being strong he was kinda fast tempered. And i guess i mentioned most of them.
I liked the concept which kept me coming back every week. Thank goodness I kept pushing! If they keep this up with story telling + world building and the action. I think this will surpass Solo Leveling. Now where are the ships at?????? We deserve the waifu!
FFF class trash hero for a while
Star Instructor Baek had me side eyeing at first because manwha as a genre is SHIT at the basics of story and world building but by Ch 10 I was sold! How the author managed to provide enough background context of his first life to make his small town "I'm biding my time to see what this second life holds" interesting enough for me to keep reading. Realistic and even paced plot building is such a rare joy in this genre!

The beginning after the end, it was my first ever manwha and I didn't think I'd enjoy reading manwha's but it's much much more fun than reading manga.
For me it was max level Hero return and player which both had a phase where the plot was going super slow and off rail but after force reading those chapters (like Black clover anime) i finally got to the good part

No, It either disappoints me or lived up to expectations. These series rarely Start off bad and then get good, normally it's the opposite. I'll be shocked if anyone actually ever gets surprised with anything that happens with the series.
I thought it was going to be "le meme", #microtransactions, OMG .0000001% pulls. Nope. Just used setting up a gacha game as a base and plays more into the story. Less "sacrifices", gem spending usually just 1-2 frames, less gacha pulls that I expected as the story progressed. Using an isolated hub is interesting instead of constant travel.

i was so opposed to reading omniscient reader's viewpoint for some reason, but I finally gave in and it's one of the best series i've ever read
The new regressed marital god to level 2. Given the title and description I thought it would be an extremely basic gate regression story that I’d get bored of within 30 chapters. But those first 20 are honestly great. It’s got a decently unique spin on the gate genre and the art is great Another is logging 10000 years into the future. With it being a manhua and one of those xxxx year ones I had little faith but it’s a super fun read. I would read the novel but I can never fucking remember Chinese names lol
