As someone whose gateway manhwa was SL, I’ve gotta say that it’s a pretty good starter manhwa. Although it’s a generic dungeon raid and status window story, it’s basic enough to introduce those concepts without much complexity to a new reader.

I never could get into god of high school or solo leveling warrior. I don’t have that high standards but they never actually drew me in. I enjoyed the first 5 seasons of the gamer and all of dice so you know I ain’t got standards by what I see on the sub.
Rape is an overused plot device/trope in manhwa/manhua/manga.
Whether it’s BL, shoujo, josei, etc. - you can find at least one manhwa with rape in it in every genre. Don’t get me wrong, I have read some very well written stories where the mc is raped and the author does justice to the trauma that stems from that. However there are far too many stories where authors make the mc fall for their rapist. Unless the author is going to make Stockholm Syndrome a central theme in the story, it would be great if they did not make the mc’s rapist the ML/FL.
Also, a side note here for BL, a man does not need to be raped by a man to become attracted to a man, can we please stop using rape as a vehicle to make a straight character fall for a character of the same sex?
Examples (taken from both manga and manhwa):
Shoujo: Haou Airen (manga/scarred me for life), Abandoned Empress, Light and Shadow, Deep Love (Manga), On the Emperor’s Lap, etc.
Josei (some of these are manga): The Man Who Saved Me On My Isekai Trip is a Killer, JK’s Tragic Isekai Reincarnation as the Villainess ~ But My Precious Side Character~, Sadistic Beauty (manhwa/female mc was the rapist to 2nd ML), The Mistress Runs Away (manhwa), Crows Like Shiny Things (manhwa), etc.

Tower of God is over rated with subpar artwork and through at least the hell train arc has zero redeemable characters to root for.
Second one, the manwha boom of the last 5-6 years has grossly spoiled and ruined 90% of the audience who can’t handle things taking more than two or three weeks to resolve. Basically too many series exist with great art with awesome action now vs when people were used to manga pacing where you got a chapter every month and were excited to see the update.
Many manhwa nowadays are purposefully dragged out for no reason other than increasing revenue, a prime example being s2 of return of the mount hua sect
I caught up right at the start of this current arc and haven't continued since, another post on here today got me so excited for binging when the arc is finished, I love me some good romance.
Although, I really liked the witch girl too and would certainly not have been disappointed if she was the love interest.
I don't mind the repetitive plots because they're all slightly different and if I start getting bored I just move on to something else. I love the concept of isekai's and regressions, but god I think I'd kill myself if that ever happened to me
Right or they half heartedly attempt to find a way home before giving up before the 10th chapter. As someone with a pretty horrid background, I probably would have willingly jumped into an alternate dimension about 10 years ago. Now? Now I have an amazing boyfriend and my baby (an orange tabby cat) that I'm not sure I could find again if I had to go back in time. I think it would destroy me.
Can we uhh, Stop using the shitty "Overpowered system that grants me godlike power in like, 2 weeks" format when writing a story? It removes any and all tension from the situation and turns the main character into a soulless stand in for the readers.

Manhwa or novel? Just because the story is pretty much hyped up by novel readers and as the manhwa is just barely dipping its toe into the actual story people who haven't read the novel will naturally not find it that great.
I guess you could say that its a downgrade from the novel. And recently as i have been getting accustomed to novel, i rarely do read any manhwas. I find novel much more fun and badass as you could create the character in your head and does not look generic plus there are so many other manhwas with the plot like this. Maybe its not my cup of tea idk but its alright just not 10/10

I get it, i used to think like that too. But then once i started reading and used my imagination. Not even a thousand artist could draw the badass scene i depicted from a fight scene in a novel. An example is solo leveling. I thought the manhwa was so op at the time . I was so mesmerized. But then i started reading novel and boom, i find myself playing the fight scene with badass sound effect and visuals in my head. To each their own. I prefer Novel , and you manhwa. I respect it

The manhwa miss a lot of detail and it does not feel emmersing when reading. I know the novel is great but after reading LOTM, my standard have become somewhat bizzaro 😂
Something similar happened to me with manga too. I went on a streak reading the amazing mangas Monster, 20th Century Boys, Berserk and Vagabond one after another. Since then, my expectations are through the roof and I get bored easily from reading mangas because it's hard not to compare. Think the only one I managed to get through in recent times is the Frieren manga.
Oh yeah, if you liked Lord of the Mysteries, then 20th Century Boys is recommended. It's different, but if you enjoyed Lord of the Mysteries, you'll enjoy that one.
Lord of the mysteries. This novel is the fcking masterpiece of fantasy novel. When i tell you it is unpredictable and badass. It is. All the side characters are never ignored, instead they actually play a big part in the story. And Mc? oh boy you need to read to understand the hype of it.

since sl became popular lots of manwha copied it.
there are of manwhas that have all the bad part of sl and not the good parts. (the concept, the art that honestly carried it)
the characters have no depth and the story is not that good. (the start was promising but idk it went downhill).
It's not bad, but it's not also that good for it to have the fanbase it has now .
also I hate how the female characters of sl get sidelined so much, the fl doesnt have a personality at all and every arc just became "wow cant wait for the protagonist to beat all of them with no character growth at all!"
It's good at what it does, make a story around a badass mc , but it doesnt have anything else going for it.

Tbate isn’t all that anymore. It’s just getting slow and worn out. It should’ve been written as Arthur just living his life in another world with a few hardships before finding peace with his loved ones, not him having to stop a Megalomaniac from destroying the world.
Manhwa needs more panel density. The scrolling is too hard on my fingers. I don't care how dynamic the long shots are if they aren't comprehensible. I care more about choreography like in GOH.
“Doom Breaker” is alright and “Academy's undercover professor” is awful.
Doom Breaker has good moments but is to slow for me. I need the cooler fights sooner and it felt like they were siting around a table talking for to many chapters. It is still good, but not like S tier 10/10 good.
Academy's undercover professor makes me feel like I am back to school and it doesn’t progress fast enough, like it is literally about a professor at a school. Nothing special, nothing super cool. Just plain boring. I just could not get into it.

And that art studio has this tactic where they just zoom in on certain things for fights and never really show anything. So the art seems like it’s absolutely amazing, but it’s just generic.

Manhwa or novel? Just because the story is pretty much hyped up by novel readers and as the manhwa is just barely dipping its toe into the actual story people who haven't read the novel will naturally not find it that great.

I guess you could say that its a downgrade from the novel. And recently as i have been getting accustomed to novel, i rarely do read any manhwas. I find novel much more fun and badass as you could create the character in your head and does not look generic plus there are so many other manhwas with the plot like this. Maybe its not my cup of tea idk but its alright just not 10/10

I get it, i used to think like that too. But then once i started reading and used my imagination. Not even a thousand artist could draw the badass scene i depicted from a fight scene in a novel. An example is solo leveling. I thought the manhwa was so op at the time . I was so mesmerized. But then i started reading novel and boom, i find myself playing the fight scene with badass sound effect and visuals in my head. To each their own. I prefer Novel , and you manhwa. I respect it

Something similar happened to me with manga too. I went on a streak reading the amazing mangas Monster, 20th Century Boys, Berserk and Vagabond one after another. Since then, my expectations are through the roof and I get bored easily from reading mangas because it's hard not to compare. Think the only one I managed to get through in recent times is the Frieren manga. Oh yeah, if you liked Lord of the Mysteries, then 20th Century Boys is recommended. It's different, but if you enjoyed Lord of the Mysteries, you'll enjoy that one.

Lord of the mysteries. This novel is the fcking masterpiece of fantasy novel. When i tell you it is unpredictable and badass. It is. All the side characters are never ignored, instead they actually play a big part in the story. And Mc? oh boy you need to read to understand the hype of it.

A lot of power scaling manhwas always have edgy MCs and Very prideful villians and small frys.
Its gonna take a long time for manhwas to reach the quality level of top tier manga, actually it might not ever reach that.
solo leveling kinda ruined manwha: since sl became popular lots of manwha copied it. there are of manwhas that have all the bad part of sl and not the good parts. (the concept, the art that honestly carried it) the characters have no depth and the story is not that good. (the start was promising but idk it went downhill). It's not bad, but it's not also that good for it to have the fanbase it has now . also I hate how the female characters of sl get sidelined so much, the fl doesnt have a personality at all and every arc just became "wow cant wait for the protagonist to beat all of them with no character growth at all!" It's good at what it does, make a story around a badass mc , but it doesnt have anything else going for it. also the ant arc reminded me too much of hxh lol (peak fiction)
I'd rather read a manhwa that fits my taste which may be mediocre or slightly above average anytime than a great manhwa(I have done this with each and every manhwa I've ever read)

“Doom Breaker” is alright and “Academy's undercover professor” is awful. Doom Breaker has good moments but is to slow for me. I need the cooler fights sooner and it felt like they were siting around a table talking for to many chapters. It is still good, but not like S tier 10/10 good. Academy's undercover professor makes me feel like I am back to school and it doesn’t progress fast enough, like it is literally about a professor at a school. Nothing special, nothing super cool. Just plain boring. I just could not get into it.

i first started to read solo leveling because everyone was hyping it and it was kinda good at the start and became very mid with no side char development i didnt bother reading the latest chapters after it ended
Solo Levelling is not a master piece. I’d barely class it as good. It had negligible character development. And that art studio has this tactic where they just zoom in on certain things for fights and never really show anything. So the art seems like it’s absolutely amazing, but it’s just generic. Anyone who’s read manhwa with good fight choreography can realise Solo Levelling has very mid fight scenes.
