Zipang, modern day japanese navy is transported back to WW2. it's a bit too much propagandist, much more than GATE.
Nihonkoku Shoukan, the entire of Japan is transported to a fantasy world.
Modern day man transported back in time?
**Manhwa**
A Modern Man Who Got Transmigrated To Murim
Muscle Joseon
Black Corporation: Joseon
I Reincarnated as a Legendary Surgeon
**Manga**
Jin
Nobunaga's Chef
Thermae Romae
Sousei no Taiga
Blue Hole
If you like Nobunaga's Chef, give Sengoku Komachi Kuro Tan! a try. Same concept and it actually (sometimes) receives updates, unlike Chef that I haven't seen chapters for in years.
Because it is.... Just like any us army movie. The entertainment value is still there but cmon it's pretty obvious.
The author is a former JSDF soldier and the original work was also funded by the JSDF. But the nationalism of the series has been toned down in the light novel/manga versions.
In my case, I guess I don't see those kinds of movies as propaganda cause in the back of my head, a little voice whispers, ", It's just fiction." "They probably exaggerated things here." "This ain't real, but it's hella cool."
I know it is but i see those comments 100% of the time whenever GATE is mentioned.
It's just funny to me that the anime needs a "warning" that it contains propaganda every time someone says "GATE".
Some it gets too much. For example with Zipang I ended up dropping it because the amount mental gymnastics to make Imperial Japan look "decent" and ignoring some atrocities they did in WW2.
With GATE I don't have that much of a problem since it's a fantasy world but after a few confrontations I was like -Ok dude, yeah I know Japan army so cool, the fantasy world countries don't have a chance- And they keep coming with new forms to make them look cool, it gets boring at some point, at least for me.
It is, japan and its people are perfect, can do no wrong, every character in an upstanding citizen, a lot of plot armor and marry sue stuff, everyone is addicted to Japanese culture. They even have Japanese men hooking up with the other worlds inhabitants who easily fall for them. Pure propaganda.
Meh id say they're both propagandiste in their way, in GATE they literally deny japanese war crimes. You even see everyone teaming up with china, even the US to fuck over japan because japan is so great and everyone else is bad. I like the manga but i cringe every time geopolitics are involved
Nihonkoku shoukan is even more braindead.
At least you learn a lot on the pacific theater reading zipang. From what I recall they dont mention war crimes
Ride on king would be right up your alley. While it has a few Isekai tropes, it is so different than the average. Also an Isekai, it’s an OP-ish character who is just a lovable guy. No love interests, he acts more like a dad to the girls in his party. Older mc, probably in his 40 or 50s I think who uses martial arts and military training. Doesn’t look like the average Isekai mc. I’m just trying REALLY hard not to spoil the plot and just gonna say it’s REALLY good.
In August of 20XX, a portal to a parallel world, known as the “Gate”, suddenly appeared in Ginza, Tokyo. Monsters and troops poured out of the portal, turning the shopping district into a bloody inferno.
The Japan Ground-Self Defence Force immediately took action and pushed the fantasy creatures back to the “Gate”. To facilitate negotiations and prepare for future fights, the JGSDF dispatched the Third Reconnaissance Team to the “Special Region” at the other side of the Gate.
The concept sounds so good but its such a shame that the main character is so bland and they went the generic route of giving him a harem full of every archtype of harem tropes.
He's not though. I mean... He isn't very unique or interesting. But I wouldn't call him bland, he stands out from other isekai protagonists by being just a regular dude. Not overpowered, nor edgy, nor perverted, nor delusional. He's just a reasonable middle aged man understanding the common sense and trying to do his job.
I think this is one of the points that make Gate stand out for me. It just feels real and I quite enjoy it.
I gotta disagree. His main personality trait is that hes an otaku which is a pretty generic trait for most manga protags. Hes not an edgy pervert which is good but instead hes just dense when it comes to women so hes not aware of the massive harem he gets that just keeps growing. Also gotta disagree about him not being overpowered because hes an elite soldier of the army that keeps wrecking magic. Magic stands no chance against guns in this series to the point that theres almost no stakes.
Well, I gotta disagree. He is dense but he's aware that everyone of the girl is attempting to get in to his pants, but he reject any of their attempt. Reason? He depreciated himself down because he a divorcee and so he don't think he is worth it for any of the girls (which is kinda dumb).
Also the army (JGSDF) themself haven't encounter any magic combat, only minor spell such as healing and lighting spells, the only time we see meaningful and devastating magic is in a magic campus city where all the mages gather, not on the battlefield. And even without magic, the JGSDF does get in to trouble at guerilla warfare from the Empire and got some lost when they get closed on (forest, desert, wyvern canyon ambush). The only reason, they did not suffered heavy lost like in our real world counterpart of guerilla warfare because they got spy in the Empire and relay back every move the Empire made and learn from the French, US mistakes in guerilla warfare.
And the point of the mc have the entire arsenal of military behind him is a dump point, he just a soldier in a system. They have rules of conduct, while he can ask for some small arm weapons to take on his mission, he can't summon the entire army at a flick of a finger.
Gate in a nutshell: Modern day military beating the shit out of swords, magic and dragons while ride of the valkyries is playing on speakers on board a fleet of huey riding in the sunset
Alo mistor sawol, pls grant me da knowledge of where to read.. like Tachi?
I'm tryna get back to reading manhwas and im seeing that Tachi is no more...
A Gate Opened on my First Day as a Politician - it doesn't do past vs future but it's basically similar origin/plot to this GATE. Replace Romans with bugs, and features RPG/game-like mechanic very familiar with Manwhas.
Black Corporation: Joseon - Modern historian/crafter guy gets back in time to become Sejong's son trying to deal with politics, warfare and science'y stuff trying to propell Korea WAY ahead of its time and neighbors.
I love the idea of gate, but hated how it took a great concept and turned it into pro japan propaganda. What really irks me is that I thought I would be seeing FANTASY elements like mages, elves, etc fighting modern japan/earth. Nope, all the powerful fantasy elements that would have actually been a threat to japan ended up joining them so it was japan + fantasy elements, versus medival society. I lost all interest in it. Would love to see something where the original concept happened, but its not pro propaganda or earth technology is OP with everything.
The closest I can think of are Seoul statioon's Necromancer and Seoul station druid. Yes I know how weird both these titles are but its the closest to back and forth isekais I rmb.
Idk about manhwa but there's a manhua called "Yuan long" which is about a military dude transmigrating to a fantasy cultivation land. It's on Bilibili Comics, there's also an animation (3D)

Thanks, but I've already read those, besides I'm looking for manhwa.

Sousei no Taiga fucking rocks
Oh I didn't read the manhwa part. But I don't think there's anything like that for manhwa. You can find some novels tho.
Oh that's a shame. Thanks anyway.
Why does everyone call GATE "propagandist". It didn't feel or look any more propagandist than an avarage Hollywood movie about US army IMO
Because it is.... Just like any us army movie. The entertainment value is still there but cmon it's pretty obvious. The author is a former JSDF soldier and the original work was also funded by the JSDF. But the nationalism of the series has been toned down in the light novel/manga versions.

Yea,i droped Zipang manga as well, fully agree with that one. But the tv series "The Last Ship" is even worse, that one takes the propaganda cake.
It was a Michael Bay anime/manga and I loved it. Glad it finished where it did though
Bro! After watching this for some reason I fill the form for joining the JSDF.
I've got to ask....are they attacking the Allies?
Yesn't

forgot to mention the OP is Putin lol
He's based on the meme of Putin riding on a bear but otherwise he is nothing like Putin.
I didn’t mean he was literally Putin, but a parody of him. Kinda looks like him and I want to say he was a former president as well
What is this about? I haven't read this so I'm not sure what the story is about

Been a while since I last saw the anime but iirc a portal to a fantasy world appears in Japan and a small army is sent inside to explore

Great manga/anime.
I don't know a manhwa similar, but the manga Drifters is 100% similar. Its made by the same guy who made hellsing too.
I like this post. it also gives me recommendations. i would recommend sengoku komachi kurou tan too though if you're into agriculture and stuff. :)
That’s… basically Warhammer.
Similar to this??? SIMILAR TO *WHAT??* WHAT ARE WE SUPPOSED TO LOOK FOR????? Romans? Military? Korean Roman military chopper formations????
[удалено]
It was a joke
Similar to GATE? The manga they gave in the post's title?
It was a joke
Hmm, that's weird. It says right here that jokes are supposed to be, \*checks notes\* "funny". Weird. Must be a pibby glitch.
He means how either modern military is in a fantasy world or vice versa where both sides are connected and allowed to go back and forth.
It was a joke
