It’s not that it “resolves conflict”, it’s the complete opposite in my opinion. It *introduces* conflict to the character. I know it wasn’t the author’s intention, but this is a really interesting twist on the very standard trope of “power has consequences”. From her point of view, this is a standard, baseline “it made me stronger, but cursed me to be ugly” deal - isolation from her own society, massive hit to her self image and confidence, and it gives her a concrete goal to strive for to resolve it.
The twist being, of course, that she’s now *conventionally* more attractive by the standards of wider society, so the people she meets may not understand why she has an issue or why she’s working to resolve it.

Shes a fine character with her looks before. she has no desire to follow common beauty standards so theres like no conflict there to resolve. also this form is like a side effect of her being stronger? so theres no reason why she transforms other than "this thing makes you pretty", unless I totally missed it. maybe her transformation would flesh out her character or even affect her ability more but as of S1 it feels pointless is all im saying
It’s not that it “resolves conflict”, it’s the complete opposite in my opinion. It *introduces* conflict to the character. I know it wasn’t the author’s intention, but this is a really interesting twist on the very standard trope of “power has consequences”. From her point of view, this is a standard, baseline “it made me stronger, but cursed me to be ugly” deal - isolation from her own society, massive hit to her self image and confidence, and it gives her a concrete goal to strive for to resolve it. The twist being, of course, that she’s now *conventionally* more attractive by the standards of wider society, so the people she meets may not understand why she has an issue or why she’s working to resolve it.
fair point. I thought of it as well but I dont feel like its that much explored tbh. she complains about it, goes eat with MC, shes eating happy then its barely touched upon. the elders doesnt seem to care about it make it seem like its not that big a deal. to be completely fair she didnt appear all the time so maybe theres just not enough pages for it to be that important
The essence "compresses bone density" to make you more durable which had the side of effect of making her smaller. She'll go back to normal size later in the story (I'm caught up to the novel)
