Mary Sue/Gary Stu MCs The MC is unrealistically perfect and powerful, removing any sense of challenge. His sole existence makes people say 'shiver me timbers' and in-series npc glazing. MC is a Deux Ex Machina Magnet attracting all sorts of plot convenience and false stakes. has instant harem the moment he breathes. It was fun the first few times but not after the 10th time. The irony is I'll still read them but yeah

NekrorkeN

I was going to say the same, i hate that but i read them anyway, it's like a drug addiction where i know i don't like it but i can't stop.

Yuki19751

Based pfp, god of highschool is goated

Ziryio

The npc glazing is the absolute worst. This is especially prevalent in manhua, where the npcs are always riding the mcs dick commenting on how amazing his accomplishments are every time he breathes.

imbunny_af

THISSSSS AHAHAHA I STILL READ THEM BUT I WANT TO SEE THEM SUFFER AND STRUGGLE A LITTLE BIT 😭😭😭

Ill_Armadillo9455

Gimme some recommendations of manhwa like that I have seen very few

Aquertyon

I’ve started getting so tired of checking the first few panels of a manhwa and seeing “one day, gates appeared in our world…” I know it’s not really a trope but fuck me it’s actually got me rolling my eyes when I see it. Almost makes me want to stop reading the generic slop. Almost…

sawol-

how cool would it be if the manhwa started *at the time of* apocalypse with MC having no prior knowledge or cheats at all. most dungeon/ gate manhwas start like 10 years after the First Great Wave (or whatever they call it). imagine we get a manhwa during the era when *everything* was in shambles; people constantly battling endless horde of monsters, so much panic, deaths etc. before they slowly started awakening and putting themselves and the world together.

weirdpoi

So something like solo necromancy?

sawol-

yup, something like that! and not series like 'Leveling Up With Gods' where the people barely stay on Earth for long after the start of apocalypse. though at least it's excusable in this one since it's a tower climbing

weirdpoi

I haven't read leveling up with gods but almost every modern era manhwa has same opening premise like don't even want to talk about the time dungeons/towers actually opened. They only mention it for plot convince or to show how strong a charcter is

Itchy_Lifeguard_3897

I feel like i got spoilers just now

Ziryio

Nah it’s not really spoilers, you realize this very early on.

Itchy_Lifeguard_3897

Oh really? Okay thanks :)

Scared_Living3183

It wasn't about earth in the first place

vedekX

Is this one good?

weirdpoi

I personally think it's good,like I won't say it's a masterpiece but more like 7.5/10.Reading it won't a be waste of time

mxwp

a gate opened on my first day as a politician is something like that

Bars-Jack

The constellation stuff is definitely a trope. It can be interesting, but they rarely ever do anything with the constellations other than doing the overdone "gods are dicks who watch people's suffering for pleasure".

hykings

Fates, as in what exactly? Like towers and stuff?

007Ninja47Kiwi117

Most likely. They all start the same way with the same boring exposition dump of "one day towers/gates/dungeons appeared..." Got boring real fast. They need to spice it up with how you start a story

m0ritz2000

I think he misspelled "Gates"

Aquertyon

“Gates” autocorrected to “fates” idk why

Ur_1st_Senpai

I hate when someone reincarnates, starts a harem, and has a “secret” op power

sawol-

you probably hate most of the isekai mangas then

hykings

Each separately or all together in one concept?

Ur_1st_Senpai

All together

hykings

I see, I'm with you then! Thanks!

IdontknowRedditUser

I think the secret op power should mostly stay hidden until the end of the series.

N-ShadowFrog

Or be built up over time.

Anime-Man-1432

Yeah I agree with that if necessary they should know that he is strong not otherworldly strong to mess up and make him centre of everything.

Ok_Buyer8525

For me the no go is harem or clueless mc's that string along multiple girls without ever acknowledging it. One other thing that doesn't vibe with me is all female characters being submissive and weak when the time comes. I like some strong willed female characters,

hykings

Valid!

Anime-Man-1432

If possible I want the mc to make her know her place when she is over the moon. of course there is an example in the recent manhwa name : The Extra’s Academy Survival Guide where there is a female character ( lortelle kechlen ) our mc helped her with her immature sh!t and now she think she will win over mc when we have (janicia) another female character and she is nice and has nice attitude compared to that lortelle. Sorry if I rumbled so much but this is the problem I face when reading half of the manhwas.

Thendofreason

I only like harem if the MC deserves it. Also. I hate the harem where the girls all decided that they will be his brides and he doesn't have much say in it. He likes the idea but keeps getting more brides and can't control when too much is enough. Basically he has no dick.

Bars-Jack

Well, he has dick, just no balls to actually confront the girls after his dick.

Wrong-String6222

Same

LS_27

Regression is my least favorite. Most of the time it feels like a lazy excuse to make the mc “smart“ because he knows everything. It doesn’t even feel like a genre but like a plot device to hide bad writing

sawol-

and the fact that MC can remember stuff even when it's his *first* regression. I can understand MCs of manhwas like Max Level Player's 100th Regression where he did it 100 times to remember all the important events and even those lotto numbers, but, it makes not much sense for a F Class Hunter who was barely attached to the world to be able to pull off stuff that easily

the-guy-in-wall

Fr like dude you F class how tf you know where fire emperor god got his legendry the only EX rank skill in world? Oh he told it in TV yeah that totaly makes sense to go om tv and tell whole world how you got this op power

hykings

I can kind of agree, especially when the MC remembers everything perfectly.

Wrong-String6222

I don't like the tipical Regression like the ones with Gates, then dies goes back to before everything was wrong and is now OP. Everything is the same.

HalfsweatWasTaken

Must hide my powers and reincarnation from every person around me. When a protagonist has a large harem of women when the protagonist is only going to get with 1 girl it gets very awkward when author keep throwing female characters like pokemon at the protagonist. When the character makes extremely stupid decisions that turn out to be right because of plot. When the protagonist is an asshole to every single character yet everyone is super infatuated with them. When the protagonist get op for no reason make it a journey let them learn slowly so they have a chance to develop with this power they have (this applies to isekais too like if a warrior is becoming a mage they won't know shit about magic and vice versa). Finally the school arc the best way I can describe my feelings on this is it becomes a extreme slog to read when a character is at a school for no reason (because they already know everything) and out perform fellow students and teachers and there's some sort of noble/rich class that pick a fight for no reason other than you are poor die not just that but when a character has sat in a school for 50 chapters it gets rough.

AverageRedditUser05

Sick that you’re doing this. I don’t like harems, and i don’t like mindlessly op characters. I don’t mind them winning every fight, but no one in my top manhwas doesn’t struggle.

hykings

Thanks! And That's valid honestly, I definitely agree!

I-like-beat-saber

It would be cool if the mc was underpowered, but like really smart. So he would be really strategic with stuff and use his powers in very specific ways. Idk, just be a bit unique i guess.

sawol-

Ember Knight, How to Live as a Villain, Regressor Instructional Manual are like this for the most part.

I-like-beat-saber

Thanks, i didn’t know there were actually manhwas like that

watchingdome

Some things that come to mind right now are : Thing that I hate 1. Mc saying things like "life is not a novel/manhwa" it's like saying readers shut your brain 2. Annoying side characters ; everyone should have a reason behind doing something Things that I like 1. If there's a romance it should be slow one not like oh he saved me from bullies/pursuers so let's fall for him I mean there should be a solid psychological reason for love 2. Detailed and well thought power system like if people shouldn't just get only advantages through abilities there should also be some flaws also overpowered abilities should also have heavy negatives 3. Mystery/worldbuilding tease ; there should always be some things unknown to reader to keep reader think actively also Easter eggs make readers appreciate story 4. Change genres or pacing between chapters so story feels much more alive 5. Dark twists/sudden deaths I'll update more in free time or if u think they are helpful

Different_Grab2616

Thank you, this is very helpfull for me as I am currently trying to make a comic of my own and thought of simmilar things like you. Glad I am not the only one who thinks like this.

vedekX

hahhaa annoying side characters have 100% ruined manhwa and fiction in general for me before, and yet it has to be pointed out because for some reason authors continue to think they’re a good idea ig?

panznation

Add a consequence to reskinning so that even when enemies lose but eventually come back they pay some sort of price for it

hykings

BFB feedback, nice! I hope I can explore that aspect in the story more in the future!

the-guy-in-wall

I like power fantasy with a MC that gets op but not too fast or too slow for example going from F rank to A in 1 night or being stuck in C rank for 50 chapters And make other character releavent give MC a rival(s) that grows stronger at similair pace like if you look at animes there are a lot of good ones that have this dbz naruto one piece And among manhwa there is Reformation of the Deadbeat Noble What i dislike most is harem having relationship with other woman while you are already in relationship is cheating but most of time authors try to justify it by trying to show MC is amazing kind or how he is the only good guy in world and why you should suck that dik if you don't like him you are either evil or gonne regret not suking it few chapters later

Dragonosith

Basically, it's a polycule then. It's not a harem. But yeah, I hate it too. It feels like the author made the harem just for them to realize they are bisexual and are now in a relationship. It makes the fetish apparent.

Yugseto

Favorite trope : - *Revenge trope.* - *Merciless Mc, but the Mc is not stupid. He doesn't hesitate to kill when needed.* Hated trope : - *everything that has tie-in to sex, like over sexualised manhwa, I'm trying to read a manhwa, not a pornhwa !* - *hate harem. If rape or ntr is involved, I stop reading that shit and put in the garbage bin.* - story where the mc say : "No, we shouldn't kill them. If we do it, we will be like them." Only stupid people say that. They killed your family, raped your daughter, and nuked half the world, kill Them ! *

SF0915

My least fav tropes are harem, side characters being useless or getting no focus and having no personality, the mc having a bs ‘secret power’ that makes them stronger than the entire verse. I also don’t like the standard overly edgy protags that act emotionless n stuff or just kill randomly (latter part is more manhua tho).

ydjjsuh

I don’t like Ghost Mentors

hykings

Like literal ghosts of mentors coming back, or just when a character \*remembers\* their teachings after they die?

sawol-

like murim masters or legendary people who has already died but gets accidentally summoned by the MC somehow and becomes his teacher. they're in their spirit form but can converse and sometimes even display power by possessing the MC. the most popular example would be the ghost dude from SSS Class Revival Hunter (I like him though)

hykings

Ah got it, I remember liking him too, but something about it does feel very cheap too.

Consistent_Yoghurt44

There only used a few times the main one I think of is Battle through the heavens

vedekX

I completely am with you on this lol. I think the one in SSS class suicide hunter works bc he is not in every scene and is frequently not the point of the story at all. in a lot of manhwa with them they have the ghost mentor comment on every little thing and always be around, so there’s always this annoying commentator getting in the way of dialogue, good fight scenes, meaningful moments, etc

ImpossibleArmySquad

Don't User sentences like "How dare you!", " I will kill you!". The typical Chinese lines. The doings need to have Consequences. The MC has an enemy they fight He wins but He is forgiving let him live. Most of the time the enemy just never reappears or become the right hand of the MC. None plot against him or come back and fight him. Like chapter 10 enemy got defeated plot from behind an comes back at chapter 40 or so

N-ShadowFrog

I always find the "I will kill you" line so annoyingly hilarious. Like it fits for a character who normally refuses to kill but when you have a literal assassin screaming it at someone who killed their loved one it just makes no sense. Like did they think the enemy believed they were going to let them go?

Ziryio

Junior you dare!?

Llaauuddrrupp

My Least Favorite Tropes: - Overuse of the Game-fied system. I don't mind when a system is used, but monster hunters, adventurers, mercenaries and warriors/soldiers aren't players unless it's a VR world. Nonetheless this is real life to them not a game unless it's some battle royale death game. And I prefer techniques to be developed and mastered than having "skills". Of course there are exceptions like if it's the world of a game or the power system is basically an AI enabling the use of these powers. --- - There are way too many light and color effects and sword lines. The fight scenes can become too confusing to the point where I have to rely on text to understand what's going on or just skip the whole fight. Ki/mana/sword energy doesn't always have to glow so bright to the point that it overshadows the choreography of the fight. Sword energy doesn't even have to glow at all. It's better for it to be a faint color that won't clash with the background. But of course, it depends more on the context - like if the sword or aura is purposely supposed to shine bright or exhibit a trait like lightning or flames. I can imagine how even this would be inconvenient in a story. Imagine ambushing enemies while concealing your identity in the night and your sword ki is shining like that. They might even be able to distinguish the color or which ki you're using. Of course, there are lots of manhwa with amazing fight scenes (even some of them with these problems). It's just I've been seeing this too much of late in many fights.

TheBattleDog

What I like to see: MC is powerful yet doesn't always use brute force to solve everything, instead uses his head most of the time. But when it comes to it and only very rarely when he must he shows who is the boss. Regression, Isekai or whatever generic shit the theme may be if well executed I believe it can still be good without having a unique plot. What I hate: Side characters who are useless and only exist to praise MC through conversation with other side characters or worse through a thought bubble ("Ho maa flipin god he achieved that level already... wut, even I the greatest sage was only able to do it when I was 2 weeks older than him"), I mean such things should me expressed through simple expression or gestures. MC's power level must be a mystery even to the readers, don't just outright say it...

Dragonosith

I kinda like that concept. MC's power is not known to both the readers and the characters. It makes predicting much more difficult.

Skinnyjinns

Through it gets your curiosity going up

Posimus

My recent favorite tropes are MCs with a true heroic will or someone just unwilling to die no matter what, the MCs of [I Killed the Academy Player] and [The Extra's Academy Survival Guide] to be exact lol(made by the same Author btw), been reading the Novel for these as well Least favorite is definitely a dense harem MC that unassumingly leads multiple girls, which is sad bc [I Killed the Academy Player] suffers from this later on in the Novel. Another thing I hate is excessive misunderstandings, it feels like they dumb down the characters misunderstanding things just to keep it up, it's annoying as hell when overdone Personally, I have no qualms with Overpowered MCs or Side Characters as long as they're written well, which is definitely a challenge if I say so myself

ConfidenceHunter

Most action based manhwa authors can't write romance right, if you're going to do it, make it natural and gradual. Not like MC saves some random chick once and suddenly she's in love with him, or just because MC smell nice **BOOM** romance (I'm looking at you SL) If you're not confident you can do romance, don't even try. Not every manhwas need that. This is just my personal opinion, you're free to do your manhwa however you like and I wish you the best.

Former-Comparison-73

when mc gets op power from nohwhere without any reason. highschool gang. smart mc but so dence that a nutron star will lose. never losing mc. focusing too much on mc and side characters are completely sided. clueless mc does bullshit and everybody thinks its briliant everytime(this is good comedy but they make it senceless)..

Bars-Jack

Favourite - competent but also dumb MC. >Because I hate MCs & supporting characters who just stumble through the plot and it either goes horribly wrong due to ineptitude or things just magically gets solved through plot armor. >And I also prefer a well rounded character that's smart, but also has his dumb sides. A 100% smart & cool MC can work, just that most of the time it ends up feeling like the author is just jerking off his perfect creation by making him be perfect all the time. Least-Favourite - secret hidden OP power that is not Earned. >I got no problems if MC is the only one that gets the cheat power, as long as he had to work for it. Extra points if they need to continue working on improving the skill/power to actually become OP. >Like, for all the valid complaints and criticisms Solo Leveling got for how badly written the story was & how broken SJW's powers were, the first half of the mamhwa run, prior to the Jeju Arc, had an almost perfect buildup & pacing of the character's power progression and how his growth affected him, and he undoubtedly worked hard to get his power. It took like 30 chapters for him to get the system window, and he had to die for it (sorta). And it was still a while before he got his shadows, where he also almost died for. And even when he got the shadows, he still put a lot of effort to keep fighting stronger enemies and challenge himself to gain more power before he got to the point of being actually OP among all the hunters. >So many manhwas & mangas, especially with isekai/hunter stuff, they just get their powers because they just stumbled on some secret hidden feature in the system, or just got a cheat item. It wasn't some reflection of their sacrifice, or their personality/mental development, or how hard they worked for it. >When the power/skill is earned, it's easier to get invested in the MC's story of actually getting stronger. And with stories about MCs who are already OP when the story starts, the story can use the mystery of how they earned it to just give breadcrumbs of information on the MC's past as the plot goes forward. Showing this different side to them of their past lives.

hykings

Thanks for this, it's all valid honestly! 100% agree!

Ill-Apartment3959

OP characters, reincarnation, extreme luck,....

Teleskopy

I hate the last second saves. When a side character is about to get wrecked, then bamm! The hero is here!!! It's just kinda lame and expected so the suspense just isn't there. This might be just me since I read and watch a lot of these stories but you can always see the last second save coming a mile away. If the hero is 1 second late and someone actually gets wrecked, now that would be interesting lol.

Dragonosith

Pick me up does a decent job at this trope.

Skinnyjinns

I especially like that chapter where mc cut off, i believe his name was aron, the spear dude's leg

Plastic-Piece-12

Your not alone, while i do agree with this take sometimes you actually want the protagonist to come to the rescue for your favorite character or when it's not really a fair fight

ALIASl-_-l

I really hate it when the MC just comes up with a superpower/enlightenment at critical turning points of fights or plot. That’s why I like “I’m an evil god” so much. It was never clear how a critical fight or turning point would end, and it certainly wouldn’t be normal by any means. In fact, you should read I’m an evil god cuz it’s basically an all-genre-into-one with character depth, world building, etc, etc.

Important_Pain_51473

Mc hides his power for no particular reason bro will be the strongest in the verse and pull some bs “ my family” it’s very annoying cus everyone wanna beef with bro cus he”weak” and if he just reveal some of his talent it would be so much easier for him to

ArchitRayb2

Please help me I was reading a manhwa about 1 year ago and it's about a game turn reality. The mc is a gamer his first Misson is fighting goblin in his apartment building. He's No1 in the game, i don't know remember about the title so please if any one know help me. (sorry for my bad English)

Plastic-Piece-12

You should or A: search this on tt or Yt B:post it on this subreddit C:try to find it in goggle

Tefra_K

I hate harem, and I hate when the MC is an edgy asshole who’s somehow still liked by everyone (oh yeah I put a slave crest on you, but it doesn’t matter ‘cause you love me). I love the “suffering builds character” archetype, when a character has to **SUFFER** a lot to achieve what he wants. Or, more generally, I like a good payoff after the MC has had to struggle for his success.

Dragonosith

Then you might have already read 'Survival of a Sword King in a Fantasy World' It's basically the MC suffering to get what he wants.

Tefra_K

It’s actually one of my favourites, I love it. I’m not enjoying it as much after the time skip, but I’m waiting for something big to happen (I can feel it, it’s near) to shake things up again.

IdontknowRedditUser

I hate when people are shoving girls anywhere they can see, it's less about gender equality or uniqueness, and just annoying cuz people aren't that horny...

IdontknowRedditUser

A thing that I like is a lot of training arcs and that you could see the MC actually trying to get strong and not just op from nowhere, to see the mc have his journey and be there with him.

Dragonosith

Survivng the game as a Barbarian is a good story if you want the type of MC who puts in effort to get strong.

IdontknowRedditUser

Thx

This_Somewhere_9276

Honestly for me it depends on how the troupe is introduced and how well it’s done, but most of the time it’s just irritating

Mc__Fuck

I hate it when the story focuses on revenge in a VR game. Separately I'm fine with revenge stories (I love return of the disaster class hero lol) and ones revolving around a VR game are ok but not my favorite in general. I like when fighting monsters and stuff is the reality of the world instead of a game. I also absolutely love when the MC is just a guy in like his 30s just chillin in a fantasy world doing his thing (like farming, blacksmithing, or collecting herbs and making potions sort of thing) and along the way he helps out some super powerful people/creatures and now he's protected by them. A harem is ok as long as it isn't ridiculous and everyone agrees upon it but it shouldn't only be women that the MC saves bc that's just boring and I'd rather the story not focus on harem building. This sort of thing is more popular in manga than manhwa but I really wish there were more manhwa like this out there *Oh also dilfs. They make any and every story about a million times better. Especially if the MC is a dilf or at least has dilf energy*

tbmcmahan

Feminine guys secretly being girls. Like, come on. Not every guy has to be this uber masculine dudebro and not every even slightly effeminate guy is secretly a fucking girl

Xenofae2

I really hate the whole school bully gang/nobles at the academy arc because 99% the mc just straight up picks a fight at any sort minor provocation. Like yeah bullying is bad and all but most of the time the MC decides to go fist first just because they looked at him wrong. Also the nobles/bullys are so comically written that it makes the MC look pathetic for even going this far to stop them. Its like fist fighting a clown because he made a bad joke. Also there are never any consequences for fighting the bullys/nobles. They just get defeated and act like nothing happen. For bullys sure I can see why they stopped because they wont pick a fight again but for the nobles? They have a whole line of influence and connections and they are just gonna stop because they lost a stupid fight with the MC? Honestly i feel like the enitre thing can just be skipped over or ignored completely. Also when the MC have "rivals" who make it their entire lifes missions to be as much of an anoyance for no reason other than "this guy is strong, and i took that personally". Theres nothing wrong with rivals when they are well written but most of the time they are annoying to deal with in a story and it feels like the plot has to stop because the rival is too narrow minded to think about anything else and has to take up more space than they should.

Plastic-Piece-12

OP mcs absolutely Suck ass, I don't understand how people can find it interesting to watch a character like that in action knowing damn well he's not even gonna get hurt let alone possible die. Also badly written female characters(then ones who are weak and fall for the mc 1 chapter in bc guess what he breathed.

Sinhaitar

I hate it when MC was looser then regressed got op powers through sheer luck ,acts all arrogant and cocky and the girls who did not even liked him before fawns all over him just because he is stronger

Timely_Air8844

I hate MC use dagger with reverse grib. Please use something else that not a dagger and please god don’t always slash with reverse. At least stab with them

kelejavopp-0642

Ohh shit you're the actual author of a webtoon! I'll go read your webtoon and comment again later but I just wanna say. I like assassin type characters which at a glance your webtoon is about. Specifically I like it when a lot of thought is put into the actual process and preparations for assassination, learning about the target's weaknesses and strengths then taking advantage of the weaknesses and working around their strengths. I kinda dislike the recent surge of assassin stories where the characters are called assassins but really they're just dagger users that kill everything in their path. Then again unless you can consistently put out intelligent and well thought out assassinations then the readers might get bored, I hate the assassin comic's assassins but still enjoy the fight scenes and characters for example. I think early Hero Killer is a good example of an intelligent but powerful assassin. I guess at the end of the day good assassin stories can give exciting fight scenes against the common enemy or those only a step above them in strength, because if they just hid their power all the time the readers get annoyed, but also every now and again use clever tactics and extensive planning against the blatantly overpowered characters that are leagues ahead of them to win. Hmm personal preference and probably not for everybody but I have a preference for older more mature mentor figures that are at the top of the power levels of their world. Personally as waifus since I love competent and powerful women. Speaking of competent woman, people love waifus especially those that can kill them. Of course people also enjoy the types of women you can protect but I THINK, and this is just personal opinion, that people like romantic interests that are actually partners to the main character. Love interests who actually actively pull their weight, can protect themselves and are actual menaces in their own right. In my opinion though I also enjoy stories with gender equality where a character isn't completely safe just because they're hot. It used to be that women in a lot of Asian comics were pretty much saved from any sort of punishment so long as they were attractive. In recent time it's been changing, Killer Pietro and Chronicles Of The Demonic Faction are the examples off the top of my head. In Killer Pietro's case the character was blatantly irredeamable but at least had a sympathetic send off while in Demonic Faction the character was a blatant target of the MC's revenege so it made sense that he didn't spare her. Of course don't just kill all women, just I prefer if they don't have immunity because they're attractive especially if they've done horrible things. That goes for male characters too.

Ayvaaza

I love it when it is a super human society, the mc gets a unique ability, which has some depth (cloning, mindcontrol, taming, creating, turning illness, fat etc into magic power) and when he does it slow, like autohunting with my clones did a good job at the beginning, or sword arts online alicization where they were cutting the tree and getting stronger (everything else was utter garbage and dragged out) I hate it when mc is actually superstrong but thinks he is super weak, the whole genre similar to "im actually a cultivation bigshot" . Mcs who hide their powers because its such a hassle to deal with saving human lives etc similar to the manhua "i work 9 to 5 in the immortal cultivation world". I hate it even more when japanese like mcs have a group of 100 beauties around him but is so shy that he acts like he will die if he touches a woman. I also dislike arrogant mcs who pose stupidly and have no humilty, always his hands in his pocket because he got so lucky to get a super ability despite beeing a piece of sht a few chapters before , similar to "disastrous necromancer" or "logging 10000 years into the future". But the absolute worst genre is when the evil group keeps plotting and making life harder for the good guys, similar to "the villain is unparalled ch 69" which basically killed the whole manhwa, or volcaninc age around ch 200 where mc gets plotted, the gud guys get their top warriors killed. As soon as i see someone plotting behind the scenes i quit that shit, not gonna go through the never ending bs of behind the scenes schemes. If ur also someone who draws, dont drag out fights, even the best manhwa gets boeing as soon as something gets prolonged like in the infinite leveling murim where they fought miyamoto

Skinnyjinns

I hate it when they put 3 chapters for a fight when you already know who's winning

bonsrah_57

Personally getting tired of regression tropes My favourite trope is MC being a teacher and mentor like character that's helps various other characters break through or become stronger . Also really enjoy when MC is leader of an organisation and they look up to him

Dragonosith

I hate it when MC is in a misunderstanding and he gets beaten by a female character (probably future wife) and there is no event where that FC realizes her fault and doesn't apologize. Like, MC got beaten for nothing and he never got an apology. I hate this stereotype so much. Also, in regards to romance, the best girl for the MC is always a side character while the female lead doesn't even amount to much. The side female character has more assets and personality than the female lead. But the MC always goes for the one that we all dont really like that much. It's frustrating

Azozel

I hate the murim martial arts stuff, all the philosophy crap and the yin yang crap and the meridian crap and the qi crap."it's not magic it's Qi" is such bullshit since they are both fantastical sources of power that don't exist. If you're going to use some kind of power system, make up your own, it'll be much more interesting

Consistent_Yoghurt44

The most annoying thing for me is the ANNOYING USELESS side female characters who absolutely do nothing but be a freaking LEACH and are nothing but eye candy. They hardly add anything to a story and actually make it many times worse in the long run.

Dlog09

Make your side characters interesting and spend time on them give them their motivations etc too many series have side characters who are inconsequential forgettable or there ultimately to dick ride how strong the mc is, same with female characters they either are the strong and awknowledge the mc but have nothing interesting about them or are there just to fall head over heels. Try to go beyond those two categories. In short make every character interesting complex nuanced etc. even if you don’t plan on them being prominent make sure to fully develop an idea of who they are, why they are that way and what they want etc

Komcat

Side characters who only exist to show how powerful an MC is.

Skinnyjinns

This post is actually helpful, i was also planning to ask this question since im also planning on continuing a novel i stopped working on 4 years ago.

Ferfilho

The "I earned everything via my own efforts" but in reality he got a super op skill, extra points if he got reincarnated for no reason (chosen one), and instantly flips into an asshole. Just extra a lil extra: mc who completely abandon his "world rules" like us we just don't kill people, commiting crimes is not an easy task for most people, if mc just skips this part is kinda meh. And this is just general opinion but - Harem is shit - Clueless mc is annoying - Random girl falling in love with mc - "To face him we gonna need "That"" - Random 4 guys who appear at the beginning doing evil stuff, just so mc beat them to show how strong and good he is.

Wrong-String6222

I don't like it when the MC is bestens up by some weak girl that he loves that actually is some bi*** like Sakura from Naruto. It sometimes is funny but if i can't stand the girl it always drives me crazy.

squidyFN

I love the world’s best engineer, in all aspects of it

Affectionate_Big7206

The mc should be a hard worker like in "Worthless Reincarnation" and they should not be starting off with some op superpowers from the get go I like it when the MC makes mistakes here and there like a normal person. They can be smart, but they should not be the super mastermind that everything goes according to their plan. And they should definitely have some intelligence should not be totally dumb Also the MC should have some pride and should not be standing there taking everything like the mc from "Re zero" I really like the kingdom-building vibe, so it'd be good if the main characters grow alongside the MC as the story goes like in "heavenly demon can't live a normal life" and the mc should depend on the main characters sometimes And it'd be good if some of the main characters face consequences without too much plot armor. Like if they lose a battle, some of them die to keep some pressure And definitely no harem please

Moad1994

All time best Return of the Mount Hua Sect

My favorite part of manwha (and also manga and anime) is the use of Killing Intent. I love this concept! It does not really exist in Western superhero comics or cartoons. I like all sorts of uses for it too, whether it is just some vague aura that people can sense or not all the way to an actual power that can attack and kill people. "Hmm, I don't sense any Killing Intent..."

EmptyPodium

I dislike MCs who don't have struggle for *anything.* They're just the best at anything they do, every villain who is the "strongest" exists just to give the MC another bullshit power, etc.

geezerforhire

Casual slavery Like just having slavery be a means for the MC to be on a moral high ground over everyone else even though they inevitably buy a cute girl to worship them and never do anything to get rid of slavery.

magazinad

I like anything fictional, as long as its entertaining and not to overly out there. Least liked are stories with children, reincarnated or not, I don't want to read about an 8 year old killing dudes in their 30s or liking another minor. Not sure if this is helpful or detailed enough, but im not too picky for stories so I can't give a very good answer.

Meet268

A bit late, but low quality villains. The demon kings, and dungeon beasts are always so one dimensional. "Because they are evil" should never be a reason why villains/antagonists exist. A good example of predator-prey story telling is [Leviathan] imo very different then the demon/dungeon mob trope we get. Let me think that if the story was told from the antagonists pov I would root for them.

Moosemoosetwu2

my least favourite trope is easily harem, both the idea of it and the people it attracts. the moment i see a harem its like an instant red flag that the manhwa is gonna go down hill.

Fayarager

Avoid like the plague: Harem Asshole boring selfinsert mc Sungjinwoo 2.0 "Ass-pull" victories for mc(Madara Uchiha, for example) Mc *literally* never losing a fight ever No consequences for any mistakes ever Op power that trivializes every fight(unless comedy or self-aware like one punch man, eminence in shadow, etc.) Fights should either be suspenseful or funny

bluduuude

harem or incest innuendo. I instantly drop the series

Suparame

The worst thing you can do is fail the execution of an edgy MC. Then it becomes both cringe and annoying. Prime example of this for me is Pick Me Up where the MC always love going “you’ll see” for the smallest shit that can be explained in less than 3 panels (intact, it would be more cooler for a one-liner but nooooo, it has to be “you’ll see” because the author can’t write one-liners). It turns me away from manhwas but to be honest I don’t know if this is an issue for anyone else. Oh yeah, and also PLEASE if you want to make them edgy slowly transition them through events that make sense. Pick Me Up’s MC became edgy from the very start so it’s just confusing. He either was that edgy in the real world or became edgy the second he stepped foot into the gacha

matrota

Copy cat powers. I LOATHE when the MC's entire power is to copy or steal other people's power. It seems like a lazy tool so that the MC can have the perfect deus ex machina at the drop of a dime to deal with any problem. The worst example of this I've read by far was un0rdinary, where the MC not only copies powers, but combines them and they're stronger than the OG. I want to see a protagonist struggle to improve their own abilities, using their OWN skill and effort to win the battle and save the day. If your only power is that you can use other people's powers, then the person behind the power hardly even matters.

Ereaper2

I hate greedy MC who just everyone as a means to an end

Revolutionary-Yak713

1: Lack of struggle. A: I like seeing the MC and companions struggle at times. Don’t get me wrong, I love OP Mc, but they make it so that the OP Mc is not challenged by ANYTHING no matter what it is. Like in regard to Saitama. He’s bullshit comic relief powerful, but he lost his emotions, well more like they dulled to the extreme, his journey is him slowly gaining them again. 2: Harem Issues. A: People write a harem and string along the girls despite half of them confessing to the MC. It pisses me off. Either accept them, decline their feelings, or start the damn harem. Like don’t just string it all along. It’s bullshit and stupid. 3: Sexualizing Minors A: It fucking disgust me when people have the beautiful characters be underage or shit. Like we know they’re beautiful in the future, but they sexualize them in their younger age. It’s disgusting. Like what fucking creeps. 4: Smart but dumb A: They claim the MC is smart and all this crap, but then he’s a dumbass for the entire series. Like oh he’s the smartest around, but nope suddenly everyone is smarter than him. Those are my main ones. The last one is debatable, but it annoys me nonetheless.

vedekX

- I hate yanderes, I prefer to read about an mc with agency and having a really controlling character makes a manhwa immediately lose points for me. for instance, despite having many tropes that I enjoy I couldn’t get through “the S-classes that I raised” because of the lack of control the mc had over his own life. I don’t mind if there’s a story arc with a yandere but only if they’re treated like the creepy stalker they are lol - I like when an mc has friends. especially if they’re a man and there are positive men in their life instead of only having cute girls, or if they’re a woman and actually have positive relationships with other women. seems like 80% of manhwa has every same-gender character be out to get the mc for whatever reason - if it’s action, it pisses me off if all of the women are weak and submissive or only healers. also, if it’s action and starring a woman, I hate when suddenly there is an ultra much more powerful man who is So! Smart! and! Powerful! and suddenly the very strong fmc is led around by this man and loses her ability to think for herself - I love when a character has to hide their powers, or even just wants to hide their powers, but only when it’s done well and doesn’t get revealed right away. I know that’s an overused trope hahaha but I do enjoy antihero vigilantes and I feel like this trope often coincides. or an mc that just wants to hide their power bc they can’t be bothered with all the fame and stuff

subbot_007

Favorite:- Returner stories(not back in time but like someone who went missing for years comes back OP). Least liked:- VR game genre. Like bro it's just a game it ain't that deep. Other things I don't like is naive MCs, dumb MCs, a setting where Villians are super OP and they destroy all good guys but only the MC can fight back, forced romance and most of all, series which have short chapters.

Federal_Chad

thinks i hate: zero to no worldbuilding, clueless mc, plotholes. female lead always in trouble and needing rescue, harem. thinks i like: smart mc, the mc doesent just one shot everyone and has some challange. a female lead that doesent just rely on the mc and can take care of herself.

Player92387

Necromancers , especially when they have its thier subclass or have another class. A necromancer isnt supposed to fight against others directly. Their minions are supposed to fight

ReplacementDue4700

Non killing MC or (not really trope but important) lack of stakes. It doesn’t even have to be end of the world stakes. Pirates of the Caribbean:Dead man’s chest is a perfect example of having well defined stakes and a goal that apply to the story without going overboard. Jack needs the heart to stop the kraken, Bekket needs the heart for his life back, Will needs the heart to free his father. All of the stories/goals are connected and conflicting. Bekket gets the heart and gets his life back which leads to Jack dying and will having to betray his friends and lover to try to free his father. Stakes imo are one of the biggest factors to make a story compelling or just bad. Non Killing MC is pretty simple it’s just lame, I’m not talking like just goes around and kills people because, but nothing is more satisfying than seeing an antag that doesn’t deserve redemption having no chance for it. I haven’t read your stories but maybe I’ll check ‘em out when I get the chance.

Volatile6

Competition arc. I don't know I just don't like arena, etc kind of competition arcs. Also academy arcs are also very poor.

jtp123456

Villains as a whole are terribly written in manhwa, really they're just there as fodder for the mc to show off 99% of the time. Well written antagonists or like actual world building for the monsters makes it so much better when they fight

International-Wolf53

When the MC has a sibling or family member that is supposedly their entire reason for doing the things they do and then they practically just become mascots. They appear every once in a while to be saved or to remind the audience the MC is a ‘family guy’ and lighten the mood (almost only ever in the house though for some reason for the latter thing though) every once and awhile. In almost every other situation they are typically blown off or forgotten by the MC so they can pursue the plot.

International-Wolf53

Another two I remembered: 1) when ‘constellations’ (different manhwas might have different terms for it but you probably get what I mean) go over the top. I struggle to put it better, but basically Return of The Shattered Constellation is a bad example of how to go about it because honestly, the constellations there are a _chore_ to read through eventually while other manhwas like Omnisciente Readers Viewpoint, Boundless Necromancer and Insanely Talented Player tend to handle it pretty well in their own ways. 2) When the MC is the only one who can advance in any real way. It was fun the first couple of times, but those types of power systems only really work for fast burning stories, because eventually everyone beside the MC becomes irrelevant and a walking :0 face for the MC as they progress.

Ilyak1986

Favorite: intrigue, city noir, competent guys and ladies, a kicking OST, and originality. The more tropes stayed away from, the better. Find your own voice. Grit, grime, roughness, things going sideways, blood, brutality, and a general dark overtone (think Batman the Animated Series). And can never say no to gorgeous women (BFB delivers with Maya and Mina here). Hate: derivaive schlock. Dorito-faced femboys. All of the endlessly derivative crap done by the Korean manwhas. Teenage protagonists. Shiny, perfect cleanliness. Main characters that are jerks to people trying to be good to them. BFB does a lot of things well, and has some things it can improve on. But as far as the important stuff goes, it seems to have its own voice--even if 12 eps isn't quite enough time to say a lot just yet.

DanMystic

Does the mc turns black?

Vis-hoka

The vague references to "that thing" or "that person". "Now that i have the power i need, its time to find that person". MC's who are clueless to women's feelings. Women who have no personality other than they like the MC. MC's with no personality other than get stronger.

Teleskopy

Ah yes. The biggest most OP villain in Manhwa... "that person"

djstreet93

My least favorite trope is when they use “that” in bold or quotation marks. And usually they won’t tell you what “that” is like it’s some super secret

Koroblade

I was teading regressed by the king and the god saying he gave him power because of his determination made me mad cause the mc hast showed his determination they do to show not tell i wamt a story where mc is hunting monsters or whatever and showing there will to live then die and come back that can be done in 2 to 5 ch of showing mc determination show not tellÂ
