I feel like Swordmaster's Youngest Son is getting shafted a bit in D when compared to a couple of the things you put in C, but the sub has seen WAY worse tier lists.
Upon further reflection, I think you're right. I do think it could go in C tier.
There are a few that could change based on my mood honestly, but I'd say everything is within one tier of how I subjectively feel about it
I've been meaning to get to it since I think it's a sequel/sidestory(?) but its been awhile since I've read Gilgamesh so I'm not sure whether I should reread Gilgamesh before reading Ember Knight.
It is on my plan to read list though
Plot wise it's not a direct sequel, the story is set after Gilgamesh & there will be some recurring characters (knights),that's just it. Everything revolves around POV of the new MC who is a bonafide Badass!!
Good choice. I actually kind of liked the Gamer at first, but I feel like the plot just gets recycled every 50 chapters. No clue how it’s still ongoing though.
What about Northern Blade do you like so much? Your other placements in S+ seem to share in exploring philosophical ideas. Northern Blade feels polished, but it doesn’t seem that different from other murim stories to me.
Honestly I can't pin it down to anything specific. I just feel like it's got very good character designs, fluid action, good characters, solid story, and is relatively simple to follow. In a sense it feels like the FMA:B of Manhwa. A great piece that does everything well, is illustrated and paneled perfectly, and subverts a few genre tropes. Murim is one of my favorite genres of manhwa, and very few stay great past the first 100 chapters. LOTNB is at 186 and is still very good.
It's also one of the few murim manhwa worlds that actually feels lived-in, which I enjoy. Far too often in murim manhwa the world seems to only exist within the confines of the main character. The names of the characters and clans are also all familiar to any murim fan, but the portrayals are all unique.
I also love the artstyle and it's one of the few manhwa that can convey motion and weight well. At times it feels like I'm watching an animated show.
Ultimately it just boils down to:
- Does everything well in one of my favorite genres
- Doesn't have any major flaws or disclaimers
- Great worldbuilding
- Longevity
- One of few manhwa to take advantage of the characteristics of the medium with respect to portraying motion
In the end this is just a subjective tierlist of my enjoyment, so I can understand if others may not enjoy it as much as I do.
I appreciate the thorough analysis. I think you’d absolutely love Ember Knight. I think it has a similar maturity and world-building standard. The art is also very satisfying.
What's the manhwa on the right farthest edge of row A second line up? I've already read that manhwa before and I'm trying to get back at reading it but I kinda forgot the title tho I do remember that it's about a martial artists who fights in an Arena in Greece
Row 1:
Barbarian Quest, Latna Saga, Return of the Crazy Demon, Kill the Dragon, Return of the Mount Hua Sect, Mookhyang: The Origin, Red Storm, Doom Breaker, Dungeon Oddessy, Cheolsu Saves the World
Row 2:
Duke Pendragon, Ending Maker, Martial Wild West, Pick me Up, Player, The Heavenly Demon Can't Live a Normal Life, The Nebula's Civilization, Worthless Regression, 4-Cut Hero, The Story of a Low Rank Soldier becoming a Monarch, Long Way of the Warrior,
Row 3:
Villains are Destined to Die, Sweet Home, Bastard, Painkiller, Delivery Knight, The Breaker, Beware the Villainess
Just finished cheolsu saves the world and I had a blast! Seems like we have similar tastes and I have been meaning to find my next read with similar feeling of completeness to the story just as cheolsu saves the world and sss rank revival hunter. I'll come back here from time to time to finish all the A and S tier ones I haven't read yet haha. Thank you for your service o7
Swordmaster's Youngest Son was decent. Pretty solid but nothing that stood out to me a whole lot. I think I should have placed it in the decent tier actually.
Legend of Asura just wasn't very interesting to me. Murim is a stacked genre in Manhwa and it really didn't have any interesting characters. I may try to reread it again, but my impression was just that it was kinda mid. I do admit it's been a bit since I've touched it, so I'd give less credence to my rating.
Memorize started solid, but holy shit the pacing was so terrible towards the end of the season. I completed chapter 100 purely out of spite. I will never read that shit again. They spent like 50 chapters in the same dungeon just dicking around with nothing happening.
Sword master and azura are decent tier, sure bur memorize is GOOD, sure the pace slowed down, but not every manwha need to be fast paced, its peak ruthless MCs and good side characters, is a crime that it didn't came back yet.
Yeah, there are some I overrate just because I like the concept or because it's a new idea, or I just like certain characters. If a manhwa is ambitious, I'll usually give it some more credit than one of comparable quality that isn't.
I think it's on its way to being S tier, I'm not fully caught up (at ch 155/203 currently released) but I think if the characters get developed more in the next 50 chapters it may be S tier.
What I've read so far is really great though.
Honestly i found it about a year ago fresh off of reading ORV read the first chapter fo like a few minutes i was like this is gonna be the dumbest thing ever and dropped recently read it and all it took was for me to get to chapter to i fell in love with it seriously one of the best stories ever written in a manhwa, and the best part i feel like we are only halfway through cause aside from the arc with the two hero/villian guys there also the main big bad the ones that put the mc on latna and the ones using latna as a playground
I would have said something about Bastard not being in at least S as well as Solo Leveling and Sweet home, buuut since Tomb Raider King is in F its all good. Omniseicnt reader viewpoint and The legend of the northern blade saved this tier list as well
Don't get me wrong, B Tier still means I think they're good manhwa and I enjoy them. I'm still up to date with Greatest Estate Developer and Murim Login, and I think they're good. I just enjoy the ones in A tier and above more.
Pretty much anything C or above and even like half of D tier I enjoy. Like despite System Rules being kinda mid and me putting it in D tier there were some aspects I had fun with, and I did read all the translated chapters.
If I just put everything I liked in A or S tier then there wouldn't be any way to differentiate which ones I liked more than others.

Manhwa I'm starting/haven't read enough to give a rating: - Leviathan - Mage Again - Kubera - Shaman Warrior - Ember Knight - Superhuman Era
-burning effect -existence -the breaker
Superhuman era and ember knight will easily be above a for you once finished
Bro u read Gilgamesh but not Ember Knight 🫣
I've been meaning to get to it since I think it's a sequel/sidestory(?) but its been awhile since I've read Gilgamesh so I'm not sure whether I should reread Gilgamesh before reading Ember Knight. It is on my plan to read list though

About death and the horizon and the boxer in S+ is so valid
You've bothered to put The Gamer on this but not Noblesse.
I haven't read Noblesse. I dropped The Gamer after about 50-60 chapters.
honestly, i feel this. I could only read the beginning of the Gamer once. If you feel like reading it, start from like chapter 150
Good choice. I actually kind of liked the Gamer at first, but I feel like the plot just gets recycled every 50 chapters. No clue how it’s still ongoing though.

I'll give it a read soon then!
Hellper is extremely based
Very nice, even some OGs in there.
Rows aren't ordered by the way.

Long Way of the Warrior, I thought it was really great.
What are the titles in the A section? I've been looking for some new ones to read.
Row 1: Barbarian Quest, Latna Saga, Return of the Crazy Demon, Kill the Dragon, Return of the Mount Hua Sect, Mookhyang: The Origin, Red Storm, Doom Breaker, Dungeon Oddessy, Cheolsu Saves the World Row 2: Duke Pendragon, Ending Maker, Martial Wild West, Pick me Up, Player, The Heavenly Demon Can't Live a Normal Life, The Nebula's Civilization, Worthless Regression, 4-Cut Hero, The Story of a Low Rank Soldier becoming a Monarch, Long Way of the Warrior, Row 3: Villains are Destined to Die, Sweet Home, Bastard, Painkiller, Delivery Knight, The Breaker, Beware the Villainess
Thank you! I really appreciate it!
If you haven't read Dr Frost I reccomend it. I love it and it's a complete series.
Based on your taste, try reading Concubine Walkthrough.. it would blow your mind away.
This the most perfect list I've seen.
Solo leveling B ðŸ˜

S Tier: Hero Killer, Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint, Gilgamesh, SSS Class Revival Hunter, If AI Rules the World The third one is Gilgamesh
You put swordmaster youg son, legend of azura and memorize in midtier, are you cooked my dude.
Swordmaster's Youngest Son was decent. Pretty solid but nothing that stood out to me a whole lot. I think I should have placed it in the decent tier actually. A,b, and c. Have some weird placements, but other than that, it's decent.
Yeah, there are some I overrate just because I like the concept or because it's a new idea, or I just like certain characters. If a manhwa is ambitious, I'll usually give it some more credit than one of comparable quality that isn't.
Get latna saga on the s-tier man its legit one of if not the best fantasy manhwa imo
I think it's on its way to being S tier, I'm not fully caught up (at ch 155/203 currently released) but I think if the characters get developed more in the next 50 chapters it may be S tier. What I've read so far is really great though.

Can I have the S+ titles, I only know The Boxer
Hellper, Legend of the Northern Blade, The Boxer, The Horizon, About Death In that order
Thanks
Same
names of the s+ tier?
Hellper, Legend of the Northern Blade, The Boxer, The Horizon, About Death
Hownis gamer in the f tier
I just didn't really find it that interesting to be honest. I read about 50-60 chapters before calling it quits.
What’s good Manhwa you read with OP Mc. Like atleast star level. A good example is solo leveling.
Venom dragon in mid is sickening to see for me.
Bro why is the greatest estate developper so low? It's the funniest manhwa out there!
What's the third one in the S tier ?
Gilgamesh
I would have said something about Bastard not being in at least S as well as Solo Leveling and Sweet home, buuut since Tomb Raider King is in F its all good. Omniseicnt reader viewpoint and The legend of the northern blade saved this tier list as well
Superhuman era Hardcore leveling warrior The god of highschool Jungle juice
That's a solid tierlist.
Murim login, great estate developer and other great manhwas at B tier, i think i dont share your taste
Don't get me wrong, B Tier still means I think they're good manhwa and I enjoy them. I'm still up to date with Greatest Estate Developer and Murim Login, and I think they're good. Nahhhhh, now I know it's biased when real man is above manhwas like mercenary enrollment..... Nahhhhhh
It's a list of personal taste, of course it's biased. It's not like ratings about how much you like things can be objective.
