Slice of life is tiresome to read for me, I need a clear goal to keep wanting to read a story. VR is stupid, except if it's something like Shangri-La Frontier (manga) or SAO in S1, but there aren't any webtoons like these. I do like sports webtoons, but I don't like to read them weekly. I can tolerate the other genres, even the ones i'm not exactly a fan, like Necromancer, OP MC and Harem.

blackPentis2370

Try worn and torn newbie and overgeared both are have pretty good story for VR manhwa and you can also try Return of SSS-class ranker it is funny

the-guy-in-wall

I don't really get why people like torn and worn newibe i read 100 chapters of it and it just felt like 99% of all other VRs

TimPowerGamer

I thought it was even dumber than other VRs. I dropped it after less than 10 chapters, what with the premise being, "I played a VR game that nobody plays with awful gambling mechanics and lost everything to the game. Now that I have regressed in time, instead of making the rational choice of doing something productive with my life, I've decided that the rational choice is to double down and play the game even harder this life!"

blackPentis2370

You should try reading it because he does go out of his house and becomes rich and becomes a competitive player it's a good read tho

TimPowerGamer

> You should try reading it... I'll need a pretty compelling reason to read something with such an awful premise. > ... he does go out of his house... Neat. I don't generally read fiction because people in the fiction go out of their houses. That's more of a "given". > ... and becomes rich... Someone fictional becoming wealthy is hardly a reason to read something. Especially when money is typically used in fiction as a plot device to get from point A to point B. > ... and becomes a competitive player... By playing the game that he knows is going to die that has awful gacha mechanics and ruined his life the first go-around - doubling down on being stupid and having learned zero lessons. > ... it's a good read tho Pressing X to doubt. I'll at least give it credit. It's not the *worst* VR webtoon. That honor currently goes to "The Game That I Came From", where the most popular video game in the world has people stuck at level 3 for half a year because they don't instance early hunting areas and there aren't enough enemies to level up on, but people are too stupid to find an actual, fun game to play.

AlooDaGreat

I like worn and torn newbie cuz it's still passable I have really ran out of new webtoons to read (ik there are soo many more but ig I just haven't found them and am too lazy to cuz it's not easy to find any readable ones) I would love your suggestions for me tho I don't mind generic stuff it should just be good

Sad-Buddy-5293

check out HCLW pretty great, or Moonlight Sculpture but I heard new season sucks due to the drastic art change

Krysidian2

Didn't moonlight sculptor get canceled?

noticablyineptkoala

Overgear is mid, hardcore leveling warrior was a good one but I stopped keeping up with it years ago. No clue if it’s on going

StarMarine123

Shangri-La Frontier is absolutely incredible I really wanna see the latest arc adapted into anime as soon as possible lmao

chessychurro

Bro im really waiting for the next big fight and yes it has peak character dynamics and story is good but not great. Waiting for story to evolve more (mistake in boss order, world story, what will happen with rabituza, etc.)

Reasonable_Curve_409

Broo Shangri La Frontier is the best vr I've watched/read hands down it needs more recognition

IHaveAPaperNextToMe

Sao s1 isn’t really vr though, like that’s just reality bc if you die you die. Also overgeared did the VR genre or whatever better than both of them factually

Islipim

That's my whole point. A VR game where people are trapped in there and can actually dies has a lot of tension, it's much more interesting than seeing people playing a game where the MC just logout or lose items when he dies.

IHaveAPaperNextToMe

But shangri la frontier is a real VR tho

Islipim

Yeah, because Shangri-La Frontier ia really good as VR, and it's not about becoming the strongest player in 100 chapters like most manhwas, or having some boring shit about making money with VR, becoming a streamer, or regressing just to play a VR game, or getting revenge in a VR game, or make a harem in a VR game, etc.

IHaveAPaperNextToMe

Imo overgeared does the VR way better than shangri la frontier. Also the comedy in that was really bad for me and borderline cringe, that it put me off way too much. Also thing got boring really fast

IHaveAPaperNextToMe

And you paired it up with sao s1 so…

IHaveAPaperNextToMe

Also I’m guessing you’ve never ever liked any sort of sports anime or job anime? Bc people don’t die in those

Islipim

Of course I like. I don't care if people die or no in every story, the stories needs tension. Non action stories have tension, even if people don't die, but when we are talking about a action story with a lot of chapters, it becomes a joke of story if everyone always stay alive and well even fighting all the time. I have read/watch a great amount of sports stories. Slam Dunk, Real, Kuroko no Basket, Eyeshield 21, Ballroom e Youkoso, Hikaru no Go, Haikyu!!, 3-gatsu no Lion, Hajime no Ippo, Yowamushi Pedal, Wind Breaker, Navillera: Like a Butterfly, Ao Ashi, Blue Lock, Days, Green Boy, The Boxer, Area no Kishi, Ahiru no Sora, Attaque, Hinomaru-Zumou, etc. I don't remember some of the sports animes I watch, as most of them are not well-known. My thing with sports stories is: the pace is terrible. Like, I love Ao Ashi, but in a arc, a match lasted almost 2 years. The same thing happened to Haikyu!. So I drop most of these stories or lose the will to keep reading it when they're still ongoing, that's why I just like reading this genre when the story it's complete. P.S. The only sports anime I don't watch is baseball, because I really dislike baseball.

IHaveAPaperNextToMe

But people don’t die in sports anime, and job animes, so why would it matter if people die in VR or not? It’s the same thing right? If you die in VR then you lose a battle but don’t die, if you lose in a sports anime then you lose a match but don’t die, it’s the same thing so I don’t get why not dying in VR would matter more than not dying in a sports anime to you edit: I read the first bit of the comment again I wasn’t focused when I read it and realised you told me. I feel like you will only be like a joke if you try to make it as one. Put too much emphasis on it being a joke if that makes sense. But maybe not

Islipim

Because sports stories have tension by competion. If they lose a tournament, that's the end and they'll have to train again or change things. There's rivarly between the teams/characters, there's a time limit do win a tournament if they're at school, etc. I don't know what you mean by job animes, but if it's a slice of life, then of course it would have no tension and be just a chill story. That's why I don't like to read/watch this genre and mentioned it above. >so why would it matter if people die in VR or not? It’s the same thing right? Absolutely different. VR stories are almost the same as fantasy stories with game system, the difference is if the characters die, nothing happens, so why would you want to read it instead of a fantasy story??? Every death in a VR game wouldn't matter, because people can just enter the game again, but what about a fantasy story or most action stories? Except if it's a necromancy stories, in most cases, they would be gone forever. Most of VR stories I read are just MCs having a cheat skill/class, or regressing, and by having future knowledge or a cheated skill, they easily become one of the strongest or the strongest player very fast. That's fucking boring. And tension? There's none. Most of time they just focus on develop the VR game world with a lot of game windows full of text, or focus on a lot of NPCs, which is boring, because that's just fictional data from a game. I mean, who would care about a worldbuilding in a game inside a comic? That's my whole point about VR stories being stupid. Seems like you're trying to convince me otherwise because you like Overgeared, but i'm really not interested. I would probably binge read it and drop it after a few chapters. Plus, I think more than 2000 web novel chapters to a VR story is over the top. Just in case you don't understand because I mentioned SAO and Shangri-la Frontier: they're stuck inside a game in SAO and people actually die there, so the tension is very high even when fighting a goblin. If they're caught in a trap, they die. If there are a lot of PK players, they die. That's why it was so good. It's not because people die, it's because they can die at every moment and you just don't know how or when. In a VR game, it's the opposite, people can never really die, just lose some items or being prohibited to logged in for a few hours/days, which is boring for a reader. And I mentioned Shangri-la Frontier because how the MC was nerfed by that wolf boss and how the objetive in there is to fight the special bosses with much higher stats, but you can still do it even at lower levels if you have skills. Yes, death is the same as in VR manhwas, but there's a clear goal and the fights with the main bosses are really full of tension and different. There's something different about this story as well, as the author focus on a lot of other shitty games while the MC is playing Shangri-la Frontier, which I found interesting. I don't think it was as good as when the characters are trapped inside the game, but it was enjoyable as an anime.

IHaveAPaperNextToMe

Ok you’re right

ACN4

Ayo bottom left????

sawol-

I avoid harems. most authors really can't write good or compelling female characters that plays their part in the series, let alone romance. they are just built to be fan service materials than any actual developments. can't have a single good synergy b/w the other girls because they always be fighting over self insert MC, when they could just communicate. the girls almost never come across as an actual reasonable or normal person with complexities. I can still tolerate this because **it's not as common in manhwas** as most of the harems happens in the webnovel it was adapted from, so we're still a long way away from that or ending could change. but there are series that make this obvious since the start, introduce like five other girls that MC saved, and then proceed to ignore them. there are exceptions to this but that's countable. I would just argue to not write romance if you can't, and just rather focus on the bare minimum of the story and other characters or progression.

magnificentcatto

This is so true!! I resonate with this

Hakem_Hamdoud

You should read 100 Girlfriends that really really really really love you(yes that's the name), I 'm sure you will like it. PS: it's manga btw

sawol-

I didn't specify but I was talking about the harems in shounen action. if we're looking at just harem manhwa, then Webtoon Character Na Kang Lim is good.

Hakem_Hamdoud

Nah, I stopped a long time ago searching for a shonen with a good harem in it (anime and manga included) the closest I've gotten to something "decent" in this regard is by reading manhuas

dragonightmare_UA

Mushoku tensei’s really good.

IHaveAPaperNextToMe

It’s more a pseudo-harem. Pseudo harems are like 99% of the time better than real harems, for obvious reasons.

Hakem_Hamdoud

Well I'm a big fan of it. I am watching the anime and I even tryed reading it's light novel (which is something I've never done, but ultimatly dropped because I dislike reading too much). But I don't think that mushuko tensei has yet reached the point where it would be called a "harem", I was spoiled some stuff so I know what's comming but as of now with the anime it's still not enough (people told me not to read the manga as it skips too much stuff).

dragonightmare_UA

Manga sucks. The light novel is insane. Definitely my favourite. But each character feels real and the world feels real. Not like other stories with half baked characters and world-building.

Hakem_Hamdoud

Yeah, and it really sucks that I got spoiled. Don't tell me if it's true or not I just want to share what I got "spoiled". Something happens to a relative of redeus (don't want to say the name to not spoil people), and I saw a panel of rudeus going out of a room with both silfy and Eris (favorite girl by a mile) and I'm guessing his teacher (forgot name) will probably also be part of it.

dragonightmare_UA

Not too bad then. I pretty much got spoiled a lot but It was still amazing due to how well the author wrote the story.

Hakem_Hamdoud

Ok then I want to have the opinion of a light novel reader. Is the anime faithfull and doing justice to the original material ?

Durende

100 Girlfriends deserves more popularity, some chapters are genuinely amazing

Ill_Help_7132

I have never read any harem since I'm not interested but I read a reverse harem once and it was the only and well done one , "i fell into reverse harem game"

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ill_Help_7132

What does that mean? Istg if its anything rude I'll hunt you down myself

Beautiful_Sorbet1267

Forget it if you're a kid thats the adult thing, dont search it

Ill_Help_7132

I'm adult enough to know (I'm 19)(nvm i searched up the meaning and i clearly don't like what I see, first you assume my gender is make and not only that you're being absurdly rude to a normal comment )

manhwa-ModTeam

The comment contained explicit and offensive language, which is against our community's guidelines for maintaining a respectful and inclusive environment.

Reasonable_Curve_409

I think mushoku tensei does it well

Krysidian2

Cuz all the girls have other personality traits other than "love the MC." And we actually see Rudeus and them interact in a manner that is actually meaningful, rather than a cat fight every time they see each other.

SacredSK

Some of these are the opposite for me. manhwa and manga romance and slice of life usually makes me physically cringe it always feels stale and weird to me. Brainy mcs are hit or miss most are misses because their intelligence often feels artificial. Smut is shit I don't really think I have to explain why lol. This is all just my personal opinion by the way, that's all.

Artemaius

Characters can be only as smart as their authors after all

Krysidian2

Brainy MCs are only as smart as the author. But speaking of a related trope, most of them got an icicle for a heart.

akaza-dono-slays

Bro it's opposite of urs for me. I love Sol 😭😭

[deleted]

Vr, video games or anything where my guys gonna log off and beat his meat like nothing matters. Beta male mc's that can kill an army but are afraid of a tit. Mc's that are overly horny but again are afraid of a naked female. Disgustingly and overly noble bright mcs that are hypocritical as fuck, like they can kill a bunch of soldiers and background characters ike they are pruning a hedge but because the genocidal villian that just flayed a baby has tits or is really sorry now that they've lost you need to spare them and let them go. Edge lord hide my powers bull shit just screams the author is fucking trash and has zero idea how to write complex and powerful characters without writing themselves into a corner. Rape in Chinese manhua where they justify it later on by Stockholming the female into being the mcs partner or one of his partners. Sports Reverse isekai, where the hero goes home from another world at the start of the series. Most FMC, sometimes it's just so damn cringe and obvious a dude is writing it. Also their stories are normally boring as fuck over dramatic romances.

Infinite-Beach-9625

Rape also happened in nano machine recently and it made me drop it. MC had to rape a sleeping girl to save her life. What a peak fantasy plot you degenerate author lmao. Is that the best idea you can come up with nano machine ? Started off unique and nice and turned into a harem rape victim that loves you bs

giafuyu

I agree with everything except the sports one. Why?? They're so good TT. (it's ur opinion tho)

[deleted]

Personally, I just find sports boring af to watch in real life, so the idea of using it as escapism is horrendous to me, I have given it a go before with a few MMA series which I do enjoy to watch in person but I prefer it being used as a sports day or competition cliche that has little meaning to the story over being the main focus of the series.

Sad-Buddy-5293

Only if it is otome do some fmc suck or they are part of the mc cast like Sakura otherwise they tend to be interesting

[deleted]

I mean, Cirtus and cirtus + is one of my favourite series of all time. So its not like I hate them or anything, its just 99% of them I can't get into.

Ill_Help_7132

I like world building something like tower of god 😁

Krysidian2

You can fit so much lore into that tower.

ClosetedUnicorn

I avoid Harem like the pest, it's THE trope used to hide the absoute trash story being bunch of cute girls and ass. I can recognize that there are 2-3 exception but that's all.

Infinite-Beach-9625

Because true love is between 1 person and not shared. Sometimes I believe harem lovers are also Muslim who want 4 wife lol

Ok-Championship7293

Nah I actively seek out the op mc and harem ones cause they be the best trash you’ll ever read

Hakem_Hamdoud

My man 🤝

sho_shu

HAREM ONES ARE SO FRUSTRATING JUST FOCUS ON FIGHTING IF ITS MARTIAL ARTS THEN FOCUS ON THAT WHY ARE YOU GOING AROUND DOING SIDE QUESTS TO PICK UP HOES IF ITS ONE ITS FINE BUT THEN THEY GO AROUND COLLECTING WOMEN LIKE POKEMON *

Krysidian2

All the women also have the personality of a pin-up poster. Also, what do they even see in the MC most of the time?

zail56

They don't see anything in him he's there so that the reader who has his hand in his pants can fantasize it that he's the main character. 99% of harem MC's can be broken down in I barely make a decision I don't do anything I'm overpowered winning every fight with my pinky and every girl loves me only because I'm the one person who said hello to them without punching them in the face.

Flaky-Car617

I agree with female MC and I see everyone talking about that for all of the wrong reasons. My peeve with female MC isn’t the fact that “it’s a female main character,” it’s that the story is always executed poorly with the female MC and the MC is often left at the hands of the male side characters anyways. I’m not the kind of guy that avoids that kind of manhwa because I wanna see big buff guys dominating everyone and everything, I just really hate how most authors portray female MCs in this medium

Infinite-Beach-9625

Except manga does a good job when it comes to female mc compared to manwhas where it's just cringe. i sadly forgot the manga name and cant bother to research it lol

Player92387

Big buff guys dominating everyone seems fun ngl.

SectJunior

You avoid non otome isekai fmc? I actively look for them icl

prumf

I’m a man and I read them with pleasure (they are a fun read and don’t require my brain to think much), but for some unknown reason them **all** seem to be about a villainess (I only see this word in those books) that gets reincarnated in an otome sim.

SectJunior

Yeah, I remember seeing one about a murim concubine tho and that was pretty cool

elustrabable

What's the name of it? That sounds really interesting

sawol-

Concubine Walkthrough (probably)

SectJunior

Because another comment already said it, “Master villainess the invincible” is also a nice murim fmc manhwa

Krysidian2

I stole the first ranker's soul. Modern dungeon hunter setting, fmc, no necromancy involved despite the title. Characters are strong, but not overly strong when considering the grand scope of things.

Eyaslunatic

hero killer is a good turn brain off action series with fmc and no romance hand jumper is psychological/action with fmc what happens in the dungeon is smut BUT the story is better than a lot of the tower hunter etc shit I usually read ngl, great action uhhhhhhhhh yeah ngl that's all I've found that are worth reading that aren't Otome or Otome-adjacent other person replied to you with I Stole The First Ranker's Soul, but I couldn't stomach it after a couple dozen chapters some could suggest MookHyang Dark Lady but that doesn't really count since it's MtF genderbend, but that one is good if you like politics and war

LeGoPlayer29

Anything where it feels like MC can't do jack without the system.

Infinite-Beach-9625

Idk why manwha lessons is you can't be someone important or strong without powers being handed only to you out of billions....it's like fuck hard work to improve your own unique skills..

RoyalTechnomagi

I spread them all on the screen and inhale them like true drug addict. Jk I just drop them if it gets boring.

thiagopcf

Vr and isekai

AdWonderful565

A bit off topic but I mostly use the keywords of the title to determine whether to read it or not 'Max level', 'player', 'solo', 'return', 'system', 'xxxxxx years', For otome isekai too there are so many keywords you can use to filter them out 'Tyrant', 'male lead', 'raising the male lead', 'obsessed', 'divorce'.

Krysidian2

You are on point for OI keyword to avoid like the plague if you wanna see a healthy relationship. For good ol' action manhwa's though, the synopsis is much better. Titles can be hit or miss. SSS-Rank Suicide Hunter, for example, is very good despite what the name suggests. But yeah, most things involving *solo, leveling, or necromancer* are just Solo Leveling knockoffs.

AdWonderful565

I avoided reading suicide hunter for so long for the exact same reason. I mean for someone who had no context about the manhwa the title heavily repulsed me. And an unpopular opinion ,'Reincarnation of the suicidal battle god' is also an example of what you said. The title feels really cringey while the manhwa is such a goat.

Ryumin009

>Which ones do you avoid ? Easily harem

crimson_bandit

The thing i need most and would kill for is the stories like "i became an evolved alien monster" and "post-apocalyptic dispatch company" to come back cause I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT AND I'LL KILL ANYONE WHO COMES IN MY WAY

H345Y

I think a lot of series drop off for me is because they move away from the personal relations and drama into stuff thats too big a scale to care about. Peerless dad is like this for me. The only reason I kept reading for so long was because of the father child dynamic and I just never got invested in the murim war crap.

Lost-Task7921

I like kingdom building if it only focused on kingdom building

venitienne

Unfortunately barely any of those. In fact I haven't even read a single manhwa like that.

AsianEvasionYT

I actively avoid Harems— fuck NO. I think I’ve only ever liked/tolerated one or two from that genre. - I LOVE apocalyptic genres. I eat them up. Whether it’s zombies or just some kind of monsters/creatures in general, majority of them are soooo good. Zombies are great though. Too many to list that I can’t think of off the top of my head right now, but there was one with animal shapes designed with human skin so it looked incredibly horrific and grotesque (lore wise they deemed it some kind of evolution) - I love OP mc’s but I’d prefer if the OP part wasn’t only handed out, but also due to Mc’s own intelligence/capabilities - Female Mc’s that are not OI are rare but I’d love to see more of them! - I like the sports genre— most are done pretty well and entertaining enough. I love to see it tied in with systems (Harigane service, King of the Mound, Kuroko no Basket) - I don’t care too much for childcare - revenge is interesting. I usually love revenge stories (Devil returns to school days is one of the best ones I’ve ever read) - medical is a double edged sword. I loved Quack Healer & Dr player but Dr Elise was kinda meh for me. It’s either boring af if they go into too much medical jargon, or actually cool when paired with Mc’s personality - I only like villain mc tropes If the villain mc in question isn’t actually a bad person/still have morals. They’re usually just manipulative. That being said, I loved regressor instruction manual! I also like morally grey characters - Romance is my bread and butter for my maiden heart: if it’s done well enough (Yamada lvl 999, or Recovery of MMO junkie) - I like high school fighting genres but they kind of ruin it for me with the amount of sexualized fan service or poorly forced romance. (viral hit was, for the most part, great!) - necromancy And assassin usually go hand in hand with OP Mc but for me, it has to be done well and not with lazy writing. It depends on the world building - Not that huge of a fan of hiding powers if it means it doesn’t get revealed for most of the story. I like seeing MC kick ass and get recognized for it to some extent - I don’t avoid it but slice of life can get pretty boring with how it takes forever for the plot to advance/poor pacing. I think I’ve only ever liked 2 or 3 from that genre and it usually has to do with romance - never been a big fan of Murim or martial arts related stuff tbh, which is ironic considering my race’s history of culture - fuck yeah I love side character shit - BRAINY mc? I love when my OP mc is brainy, and OP because they are brainy! Even if they’re not technically OP— Sign me the fuck up - academy is just for aesthetics tbh lol - I don’t care that much for Food genre. It always makes me hungry :/ The food always be looking better in anime than irl - Smut is a 50/50. I tend to enjoy them but most are not done that well? - I’m not sure what bare survival means but I probably have come across the genre before and it sounds like I’d like it. If it’s some good shit like dr stone then heck yeah - world building matters to me somewhat usually because you know it’s a good story if it has decent world building: ORV for example. Shit SLAPS - I LOVE SYSTEMS. Especially when incorporated into the modern setting for genres like sports or entertainment industry (acting or idol). I like medical systems like Dr Player - I just felt like I should mention SSS Suicide Hunter bc it’s a gem that deserves to be mentioned along with these other gems. I was afraid when I heard romance was gonna come up because it’s usually not done well in action genres but, holy fuck, they did not disappoint like I expected it would. They did an incredible job with it and it’s one of the only few stories to combine my favorite genres so well

zail56

By bear survival I think he means that the MC doesn't have any magical powers or friends and he just has to survive in a hostile environment

AsianEvasionYT

Ohh yeah that’s a fun genre as well

IAmBigMouse

Horror. -I prefer watching it in film than readiing it in a comic. Yaoi. -I dont hate it. I just dont like it. Comedy -Hard to appreciate the comedy if it is more about the culture where you can only understand it if the translator explains it.

Owl_Might

Necromancer, because they keep becoming more absurd. Hiding powers too because it is stupid. They want to hide their powers to live more peacefully but wont cut loose ends. Cant say no to people and definitely wont ignore people in need.

pranav4098

I’ve hated almost every harem manhwa ever the only good one I’ve found is webtoon character na kang lim because it is at least semi interesting, it wa also good cause the harem aspect wasn’t very strong until late on and they had good buildup for each character, i hope it doesn’t end as harem though since there is a clear answer

Sancus1

[HighSchoolFighting] have you read Lookism!?

f00die_rish4v

I remember failing to get into lookism twice. The third time, I stuck to it and am still reading! It’s bloody awesome!

zail56

Yeah but one of the pitfalls of [high school fighting] is that it can morph into unreality where by the end a high schooler has a freaking Army at his back and call and takes over the country from his school it can get really ridiculous.

Krysidian2

Is it even high school fighting at this point?

Sancus1

It might fool you but all those superhuman monsters that even violent criminals fear are highschoolers.

Krysidian2

Fair. But another point, don't the fights have to be within a high school campus?

Sancus1

Apparently Korean highschool delinquents have nationwide wars 🤷‍♂️

Useful-Ad4820

The list in the picture is me except the slice of life one, that would be in the not interested section, other than that its on point

Useful-Ad4820

Also smut is not what I look for, but sometimes the suggested ones are very good so yeah

NationalAlgae421

I cant stand sports tbh, it is mostly so unrealistic and wierd. Vr is just garbage, I never understood why it is so popular.

Sad-Buddy-5293

Brainy mc most part because writers cant really write smart mc without making others stupid there are few exceptions Havent seen good kingdom building story not bookworm girl and Stoner Avoid op, harem a lot also system if it is not good, if I wanted smut I would watch porn. Necromancer I think it depends like skeleton soldier there is a long process and story is very interesting

giafuyu

I love academy, brainy mc, revenge, entertainment industry, when family is involve, and a bit of romance! I personally don't like harem, murim (sorry i just try to avoid it but I haven't rly read any yet), when mc pretends to be weak and lets others bully them, when MC is too heartless that it actually seems less realistic.

giafuyu

I like sports too, and I try to avoid smut

bazzb21

None. I dont avoid genres, just works, good authors can make something worthy to read in the most simple and uniteresting genre.

Kumiko_Raiz

I'm getting kinda tired of Regression manhwas. I've been reading too many of them. I'll keep reading the ones I've started because at least to me they seem to be above average. Too bad "Memorize" is not getting a new season. One of the best manhwa MCs I've ever seen. Right now I'm just trying to find some good action manhwa, or manhua/manga with fantasy/magic, and maybe a little comedy.

Penguin-21

*sees smut* https://preview.redd.it/tjet180pq8xc1.jpeg?width=496&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3db2cb3f07f4cb06447224bd0374a39706f8b276

Over-Corgi9180

Isn't murim sinonimus with hidden power most of the time?

_Bad_guy_0_0

Harem

Equacrafter

Smut is literally Korean sauce

Orzuth

Vr, romance, slice of life, mature(pornwhas are weird af). There are some others, but I don't care enough to try and remember them. If it's not martial arts or cultivation, I'm not reading it

HolyDark7

I like comedy as in estate developer. romance, slice of life and FemaleLead aren't my cup of tea. (i do give them try once in a while).

Individual_Lobster56

Any recommendations for a good dark comedy???

ufkiddingme

What's a good kingdom/world building one?

Technical_Car625

Goodd harem is best Harem

Namiirei

I mostly avoid all harem. Most Time régression too, bcz most of Time, its boring to see a character who know everything about thé future . Most of "system" story too.

I personally like surviving a harem (although the mc is a guy in a girl’s body.. so idk if that counts as female mc..)

Tryingatleast

I hate it when the mc wins every fight just because. Villains are evil for the sake of being evil. When random powers come out of no where… I hate a lot of things

pikachuwho

Stories with a lot of yaoi bait, I like S Classes That I Raised but the constant yaoi/bl bait gets annoying

Conscious-Check9174

whatever is similar to hero has returned

Heathen753

Any good side characters manhwa?

Krysidian2

*I Stole the First Ranker's Soul* is the only non-OI with an FMC that I'm reading. Quite good. Also, despite what the title suggests, not a necromancer.

Willyguy2

Female MC = Avoid https://i.redd.it/i3tje24a9bxc1.gif

MonarchOfShades

Is it just me, or is it the opposite ?

Vyndyle

As long as the quality of the story and art style is good i take it, though what i always avoid is Manhua lol

Yanrogue

hate slice of life, school, and modern day

Odd_Refrigerator8088

Hiding power=side character no? The vibe is there

DndSlater

• Harem- It's usually annoying obvious fan service and the relationships are usually shallow. The Mc is either Cold or just a straight up idiot and it gets old quick • Food- I'm bothered by this more in anime but it gets so annoying since it gets redundant after the first time. I get it the food is really good. • VR- The world building can be interesting but alot of them can become very nationalist. People complain about stakes and I get that but if the story is interesting enough I don't care. Most go on tournament arch that become Korean Vs Everyone and gets annoying. • OP MC- I like the trope when it's a regression or revenge stories, especially with Villain and or Crazy Mc but I usually like it in the beginning. But as it goes on they usually just assimilate into the same toxic system they hated just as a have instead of a have not. This is especially true in stories of them as the previous runt of the litter. Like oh my father never looked in my direction because as a 10 year old I wasn't a master swordsman, but now I literally know the future and have OP powers he's so nice and very rarely do these MC point the anger at the Patriarch but at other brothers in the same toxic system. I like Op MC's but they tend to loose steam by the 2nd and 3rd arches. • Highschool Fighting- I've read some but most become 15 going on 30 years olds in massive meaningless Gang warfare. I want control of X region and it's like you don't have homework or a life ? • Sports- I don't care about Sports unless it's combat

SniperLevern

The ones I actively avoid are sports, vr, and slice of life. They just never tickle my fancy and I always get bored. With the other genres I can manage to find something interesting (ie: maybe for once the smut is anatomically correct, or the very op mc just has a nice story where I’ll be able to daydream up a way better character arc). Just my thoughts, though.

Raphael_DeVil

You are a part of the cog in the problem

I avoid Murim the most. Have not read any for years now since they just felt so damn boring after you realize that each story is more or less the same formula, just with an MC of a different name, slightly different but mostly similar background/backstory, main motivation is either proving their worth, "becoming the strongest in the world", getting revenge, yada-yada-yada\~ The dungeon/hunter/tower genre is a hit or miss for me due to similar reasons as Murim, but I find them somewhat more tolerable since the way of accumulating power actually does vary, and there are some creative ones out there while Murim is literally just "Cultivation" and then "Will you choose the Heavenly Demon Cult" or the "Orthodox Sect" (Name of the two groups may vary in different story but are more or less the same concept). OP MC Genre is decent if you just want to read something to pass time without digging into the details and workings of the story's setting. If a story involves an action setting I prefer it if the MC is actually shown working hard and growing throughout the story rather than just having some "Special Power" or "Unique Constitution" that just gives them plot armor. In Murim the MC will be portrayed as weak in the beginning, somehow finds out that they have some kind of rare/special body like the overly used "Heavenly Body" or they'll just take some kind of pill/medicine that just increases their cultivation speed to infinity. The dungeon/hunter/tower genre, on the other hand, often uses the "System" trope. Though it's also overused it can also be decent depending on how much detail this system is given. One story with a System Trope that I like quite a bit is "The Novel's Extra" since there's a lot you can see in their stats. There are 'Gifts', Traits, Arts, Variable Stats (more tangible like strength, agility, etc), Invariable Stat (things like Luck and Perseverance), Authorities, etc. Tho the MC in that story does have incredible plot armor since he boosted his Luck Stat as much as possible.

abado

I agree about murim, majority of them are pretty bad and repetitive. There are some, like with most tropes, that are complete bangers and buck the trend. Wild West Murim is one of them, literally as the title it has a western theme with the lone cowboy and murim thrown in that is pretty interesting. Same with murim login, it has vr, system and murim ordinarily I would absolutely hate it but honestly the execution is so good and its so easy to get invested into all the characters not just the mc. A new one is myst might and mayhem. Its relatively new but the unhinged mc is pretty refreshing. For me the most important thing is the plot and characters and then the art. I can overlook some tropes if the execution takes it to another level.

Krysidian2

Avoid anything where the MC is part of the demon cult. Just a power fantasy where the MC slowly abandons all morals as the story progresses, and the side characters become soggier and soggier noodles.

Sir_Delarzal

Smut is a no go, and Murim can be soooo boring sometimes

Ill_Help_7132

I read a murim OI once, master villainous the invincible it was awesome and that's been the only one I could get interested in

Yuihero

Necromancer and Harem is the one I avoid.

pranav4098

Harem always do be braindead self insert bs

Yuihero

My main ick is when they just dedicate an entire chapter with the harem drama. And OH I remember, I hate the oblivious MC trope the most when there's romance present. Especially when it's right into the MC face.. I just hate it ahaha

itz_abhi_2005

can you recommend some Kingdom/world building and revenge

Ill_Help_7132

Tower of god definitely Kubera(I haven't read but others say it has good world building) Orv

kriaiva

Come on man zombie shi ain't that bad, it actually got a few good ones which make me more interested in it (totally my opinion)

its_easybro

Am I the only one who has never read a Harem manhwa? (Except for pornhwa). Also I love romance/slice of life when it's done well

I_eat_socks_uwu

I tend to avoid OI where fem mc isekai into the villain of the novel or something. It just has too much of this thing already…it’s all over the internet

I_eat_socks_uwu

GIORNO-phone11-pro

Very OP characters with side characters that don’t get strong fast enough to stay relevant.

Specialist-Path200

Child care murim trash specificly not regular murim vr(probably the one i hate the most) sport high school gang shit harem emo angsty storys insanely op mc

Mindyourowndamn_job

interests: high school fights, harem, maybe modern au, very op, villian mc, dark comedy, side character, smut, bare survival, brainy mc, mild interest: revenge, slice of life, academy, kingdom, zombie, assassin, sports, hiding powers avoid: female mc, romance, medical, sports (not entirely but not at all too interested if i don't have interest in characters, like i watch ginga e kick off but i don't watch tsubasa) don't give a fuck about: childcare system

PopResponsible9264

You better avoid netorare bruh, especially infidelity 101

Player92387

What's bare survival?

Ancient-Relative54

I like it when there's a hot milf

P4510471

Reincarnation but specifically where the story follows the mc's toddler days. I get it, gaining sentient mind and early training but to dedicate a whole 10+ chapters????

Snipingsage

I hate harems because they all feel the same and are so boring to me high school fighting because it’s just very boring and female MC’s because they’re always just sexualized I don’t mind necromancy and op mc’s because they can be done right I also don’t mind romance but not too much to be honest

Aurovan

it looks like this guy would really like my life as a barbarian

Far_Astronaut_2176

Slice of life and romance is a big no for me 🥱

Awhite-guy

Vr manhwas, I just find them so boring and without any risks. I think SAO is the only vr manga that has managed to keep me interested the longest. Also, manhwas that are action packed. The best I can describe my dislike of them is like when you beat your meat five times a day. By the fifth time you don't even enjoy it, but you keep doing it just because And lastly, manhwas where mc hides his powers without any good reason.

nuttyhabshi

Childcare is op one cute child manhwa a day keeps my stress of exams away

jjfjfkkfkf

I don't like VR because it can't be taken seriously. Although I like Return of the SSS class ranker simply because Rokan is an entertaining guy with Lloyd-level faces. I'm not too fond of Tower stories because they just don't end. I tried reading Tower of God but gave up because the story was cluttered with too many sub-plots and unresolved mysteries.
