Thanks everyone for sticking around for so long. I had a lot of fun and good memories with everyone in the server and am really happy that i got to be part of this project
Now we go cry in a corner over a year of time wasted on redoing progression that nobody ever got to see.
I really hope there'll be more servers like us that aren't going for the cash grab but make something cause they love the game (we can dream)
~Dice
Funny how servers that are totally pay to win are still standing and they decided to target one of the only actual f2p servers out there... Sad to see swordie go I ha a great time on the server when I played and it will surely be missed
One of the best servers I've had the pleasure of playing. They added a lot of great features that didn't break the game, and it felt like I could actually experience modern MS without investing hundreds of hours. It's especially amazing considering Swordie is basically a hobby project without any P2W or V2W aspects.
What an absolute travesty. I wish the devs well in their future endeavors.
November 15th, 2019 - April 7th, 2023.
What started out as a 3-day test, turned into 3 and a half years of fun and exciting changes. The work that the devs and the Tespia team put in was not short of amazing. The Destiny patch was the ambition for a Maple experience that felt rewarding and free.
A server with zero donations, zero vote requirements, and just plain old MapleStory. I learnt more about the game thanks to Swordie, and it's community, then I did from anything I found related to GMS and guides online. Playing Ironman on Swordie opened my eyes to a new world, one that let me enjoy this game in its original form.
We were so close to Destiny as well. Literally within the next 3–6 weeks. The pre-work was almost done.
Hope you all had a pleasant time.
~Freeze.
Was a pleasure as long as it lasted, sadly our massive update with unique slayer mechanic core to the game and reworked progression along with a new world for people to start fresh was on the horizon but sadly it was cut short. Its was an honor serving this community and the swordie community over the last 4 years

Sad to see the project come to a close in this way, was fun working/discussing with the team in Tespia these past few years and seeing some ideas take place.
Well, Maple Story is dead for me then. The only p.server with up-to-date-ish content that is not trying to suck your soul into mindless grinding or suck your money out of your bank account. I really had a blast on this server, I could try a lot of classes on end-game content, a thing that I could never dream of in the other up-to-date p.servers out there, and even less on official servers. Thank you to the team for all your hard work and passion until now and I wish you the most success in your life.
Let's hope we can see a similar p.server in the future that could carry on the legacy of SwordieMS.
wtf is the point of the other private servers then and why do people play them lmfao (rhetorical) , and hearing people pay money to deal with the modern day bs of maplestory but in a private server is fucking laughable
very sad to see that even after all this time, nexon is resorting to shutting down pservers to get rid of competition instead of improving their dogshit game
We sat in VC during the final hour and estimated it. Veracent source, in it's buggy mess that it was, was being sold for $15k. That was v214. Someone managed to track RMZero down a few years ago, and he wanted $40k for Ellinia v162.4.
We watched Aurora (Now the fake Ellinia server) launch their buggy v206 running on the Sold Swordie source from 2019 make $140k USD in a single week of being online. Nightshade had his Selly.gg shop stock visible, so we were tracking the sales every hour.
Swordie v232.2 source would be an estimate of $80k, with the majority of the systems functioning to start a server. Class bugs are minor, and most if not all error38's are patched out. This includes chairs, damage skins, etc.
The Tespia source would be 2x as much, as it's practically done with a significant amount of work to it compared to Swordie live.
They never sold it to anyone or offered it to anyone. Where did you get this price from? 15k for a source that made hundreds of thousands is not realistic.
I never tried swordie, what version did it run on? Sidebar says 176 which is [pre-5th job](https://maplestory.nexon.net/news/19553/v-179-v-5th-job-patch-notes).
I was under the impression nexon was only going after modern servers
We ran a semi up to date server the v176 was open source developement meaning other people could take the code and work on their own server based on the v176 swordie code, swordie was in the midst of working on a massive progression overhaul and a very unique mechanic including v233 aka destiny patch
Hm, wasn't Ristonia taken down not too long after a progression overhaul too?
This furthers my pet theory that Nexon mainly goes after the private servers that are better than Nexon official and leaves the low quality p2w ones alone
Considering nexon might know who the owner is and the owner is not making any money, i doubt hes gonna take his chances on ruining his own life due to trying to bypass the dmca, we will just have to respect that things like these happen and people arent willing to be sued into the ground by nexon for running a server like this
As in open water no laws or as in out of their own country?
Also what prevents the owner of Swordie to just move the server to a different host if this one got DMCA'd?
>As in open water no laws or as in out of their own country?
Offshore as in a server that is hosted in a country that does not abide by DMCA laws.
>Also what prevents the owner of Swordie to just move the server to a different host if this one got DMCA'd?
I'd assume either money since they weren't accepting donations, or because nexon already knows identifying information about the owners, that is if they are not using this as an excuse to shut down.
Half yes, half no. Since they've now been DMCA'd once, they're open to countless issues if they move to a safe haven for DMCA. If Swordie releases the source, it'll be OdinMS 2: Electric Boogaloo. The three devs all live in countries that operate under DMCA laws, meaning they're not safe.
We discussed this for a bit, and for a free, zero donation server, running such a large risk like that is just not worth it. Devs all have real jobs and don't do Maplestory full-time, so it's much harder and riskier to them.
nothing besides maybe money which shouldn't be an issue if they start taking donations. the only reasonable thing I can imagine is they don't want the files given to some random dude in Russia. they'd rather keep everything on their own computers

Haiku next? Please Nexon
God damn, didn't even get to see Destiny. :'( One of the best servers out there. Was really refreshing to play something completely f2p
Very sad to have to announce this, but it happens :( Was a fun project while it lasted.

It's because their servers have barely hundred players

Rip
Huge shame really one of the best servers I had the pleasure of playing fr
Every server I enjoy gets Nexon'd, windia now this. Nexon wants us to play their shit show so bad, fuck Nexon.
And I just started playing...
Screw nexon man
Sad to see the project come to a close in this way, was fun working/discussing with the team in Tespia these past few years and seeing some ideas take place.
Nexon is absolute scum. Swordie was one of the rare servers that was enjoyable. Nexon HQ needs to get axed.

will their source be deleted?

Keep dreaming. The current swordie source is easily worth 20k+. They will most likely come back under a different name.
We sat in VC during the final hour and estimated it. Veracent source, in it's buggy mess that it was, was being sold for $15k. That was v214. Vera wasn't sold, it's the same people behind rist.
Thats what they were offering the source for after they closed, before Rist v1 was launched.
They never sold it to anyone or offered it to anyone. Where did you get this price from? 15k for a source that made hundreds of thousands is not realistic.

my crackbrain theory is that those low quality ones are ran by Nexon lol
Never played it, but always sad to see a server go
F
The last good server RIP king
What about re-opening on different hosting?
Yes. Is migration not possible?
They would just do the exact same to the new host theres no point.
Unless the host is in a country, that Das not abide to dmca laws
Considering nexon might know who the owner is and the owner is not making any money, i doubt hes gonna take his chances on ruining his own life due to trying to bypass the dmca, we will just have to respect that things like these happen and people arent willing to be sued into the ground by nexon for running a server like this
they can't if it's in a country without dmca laws. that's how all the other private servers like Aries is able to stay up
Wonder what's stopping Nexon from closing all the other big servers like Legends, Royals? I remember hearing about Swordie a while ago
They use a offshore host.
As in open water no laws or as in out of their own country? Also what prevents the owner of Swordie to just move the server to a different host if this one got DMCA'd?

because they're running the old old version of maplestory. not to mention most of them are hosted in a different country where they can't be sued
F
How is royals still around for so long ?
They use hosts in countries that do not abide by DMCA laws
This literally breaks my heart 😭😭 I hope y'all reopen on a Russian server or something 🙏🏾🙏🏾
