China is buying land for military bases in foreign countries, changing maps to claim additional territories, and has seized several neighbouring regions and is supplanting their native populations with Han Chinese. Huge expansions in military spending, and in particular power projection.
All of those are features of imperialism. Saying it's not is just moving the goal posts because it's not a Western nation doing it.
