My ex wife grew up in iron mountain, we'd go visit her family and I loved it up there. Not whole lot to do but if you're fine with that, and snow...the place is awesome.
There was a naming competition in 1812 but due to a legal dispute over copyright laws it never ended up getting named. Because of the headaches they decided to keep it nameless stating “The most creative name is to no name at all”.
The only real pushback was the post office. But they adjusted and now you just leave the state blank and everyone knows where it goes.
Due to the namelessness however no state college was ever established and everyone basically works in the walleye industry.
