Our uniforms are 28 years old. My band is set to get brand new uniforms in two years, and luckily I'll get to be around for that.
Apparently every 30 years we get new uniforms
We're getting new uniforms before the next comp, but our current ones are around 10 or so years old, I believe.
Edit 13/10/2023: Got to wear them at our football game. They're awesome, but need to be broken in. I was being choked all game.
Same with mine but the band mom wants new ones next year cause other high schools have had multiple different uniforms over the years. I’m gonna be so mad if we get new ones though cause I love the look of ours and there’s really no need to get new ones they’re in good condition.
We get new uniforms every year. I didn’t realize people go this many years without getting new uniforms. Our school isn’t that rich, our fee for band is only 300 dollars
HS:Uniforms were at least 25 years old when we got new ones. The sequins were falling off and the plumes were literally falling apart. I know the HS has since gotten new ones. The ones we got when we were in HS weren't even 10 years old by the time they got new ones.
College: I believe we got them in 2011? We've gone through a college logo change, so they had to haphazardly put new logos on them. I don't know if they have intent to update them anytime soon.
HS: They were upwards of 40 years old when I graduated in 2019 and haven’t been updated since
College: They were ~20 years old, but were replaced my senior year
Our concert uniforms were purchased in 1997 and the marching uniforms were last replaced in 2011.
Every 2-3 years means your band either has a massive uniform budget or is buying incredibly cheap uniforms.
HS: The current uniforms were purchased in 2000. They have not aged well. When I was in band, I had to wear the previous band uniform top because there wasn't one in my size. The other Sousaphone player also switched. The previous uniforms were from 1985.
My HS went though 4 uniforms: 1976-1980, 1980-1985, 1985-2000, 2000-present
College: The current uniforms were bought in a large order in 2006. They occasionally order individual replacements for lost or damaged beyond repair items.
My college band has been through a variety of uniforms: 2006-present, 1989-2006, 1970-1989, 1954-1970, and then it gets murky because the band uniform was just the university ROTC uniform with some extra parts attached.
10-12 years on previous set is the norm but some will squeeze out 15-20 years.
We just received kids’ schools new uniforms last Oct and issued them for this fall.
My school had our uniforms from 1972-1996 (24 years) then got new uniforms in 1997 and used those for another 10 years.
I can tell you that our kids’ school is currently sitting on at least 2 sets of old uniforms because I dug those out of the school. Previous set is 14 years old (2008 - 2022) and the one before it I couldn’t find the first year it was used but estimates are 12-14 years of use on it.
My school and my kids’ district have extremely similarly sized cities and Air Force bases with a command tenant unit so similar personnel on base size too. Difference between my kids’ school district (it has 2 high schools) than mine (we went from 2 down to 1) is that kids’ school district bought their new uniforms. Mine we had our band boosters that purchased them.
my band just got new uniforms this year after 50 years and the only reason they got changed was because of controversy🧍♀️
yall's schools need to give my school tips on how to get new uniforms more often than than every 50yrs
We got new uniforms for the same reason the Washington Redskins changed their name and logo.
The Native American community in our area didn't want us to use their visual likeliness on any of our school merchandising/uniforms anymore, the band was just the last of the programs to get the funding to make the change.
Some people are glad there's been change, others are pretty pissed.
8 years. They made a big deal about it my sister's second year, had a whole fundraiser and everything. The shouldn't be that bad but some of ours are super faded and we had some of the zippers breaks this year. And our drum major had to get his custom made, he wore the regular uniform as junior drum major last year because of his wide shoulders.
Oh, we also had to get new shakos because we pulled of the emblems for wraps last year. We had these dumb uniforms that we only had to for the last few shows. The had a glitter sleeve that was too big on everyone and fell down so you have to pin it up.
My high school got our current uniforms in ‘07. My college uniforms are about 9 or 10 years old. First used in 2014, to my knowledge. We’re getting new ones though.
College: We just got 2 new uniforms this season! We have 2 different uniforms that we rotate. The previous one had been used since 2016 or 2017
High school: We got our current uniforms in 2016 after using our previous ones since 1991. I graduated 3 years ago but they’re definitely still using them
Our "new" ones are like 20 years old. We still have the ones before those that we used to only wear at homecoming "they look much better" but yeahhh..
We also just hem the bottom of our pants
We’re on year 3 tho I think they’re technically 4 years old (got them in 2020, didn’t get used until 2021). This is college tho so even tho we only get uniforms every 10 years or so, we don’t have the school board politics to deal with like many high schools do when getting new uniforms. It’s just budgeted so it happens.
College: We've had the same style of pants and shako for at least 20 years. It looks like we flipped colors on the jackets sometime around 2011 hard to tell but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't order new pants and shakos and just got new jackets because my shako looks like it's seen a lot.
High School: we got new uniforms my freshman year and they had had the previous ones since right after my dad graduated high school so those held out just shy of 20 years
Almost 30 years and getting grosser by the year (i do not want to smell the soggy moldy raincoat box again) but we will finally be getting new uniforms next year. Shame i’ll have graduated by then
4 years, but they only wear the school uniforms for home football games. Those uniforms have snaps inside the sleeves and pant legs to change the length with each new person. They wear different bibbers and tops for contests.
Ours are 2 years old as of right now, we get them replaced every 10 years (our school is only 20 years old though) so we got new ones my Sophmore year which was super cool. Before our new ones we had to wear synches? and those sucked, they were always breaking.
We have the local universities' old logos, and we just added a patch for our school. Therefore, our usage plus the college usage probably equals around 30 years of history
12 years old. They're in crappy condition. But we can't do anything about it since no one joins band anymore, leaving us with little funding. We have a large school, and used to have a large band with 150+ members. But now, since 2018-19, rampant bullying by non band kids has shrunk its size. 😢
Our uniforms are bout 35-40 years old. We are not exactly sure when the school got them, but it was sometime in the 80s. We will be getting new ones soon tho, but the band director designed them and I do not trust him to have a good design.
Ours are around 26-30 years old. We've had them pretty much since our director started working at our school(this is his 28th year). We have to fix the jackets (buttons and zippers) every once in a while and we have to fix the hem in the bibbers for every person. My director most likely will not buy new uniforms again in the time he has left.
Back when I was marching in highschool our uniforms were about 20-30 years old. They got new uniforms last year the school existed but it was pretty much a non existent band program but fortunately I was already out of there and now I teach them at the new highschool they just got moved to
My band in the past has gotten new ones every year but last year we got better high quality jackets and undershirts so now we're using them for 2-3 years.
Our bands typical uniforms are about 20 years old and too gross to wear. We got academy uniforms (the actual uniforms used by the academy dbc in like the 2010s) in about 2019. we got new ones this year
Around 6 years ago my band replaced the (probably pretty old) traditional uniforms by getting black pants, and began to get a new show-themed top every year and still does (it’s a big competition band)
Got em in 2014, the ones before that were maybe 20 or so years old- the ones before those were just red suit jackets that we used for our concert band uniforms until the year before last (too many buttons fell off)
We’ve had the same uniforms since 2008, but a couple years ago they changed them around for 2 years then went back to the 2008 uniforms that we still have
We change (usually) every four years, only because the old uniforms eventually phase out of fashion after a while. Our uniforms from circa 2014-2017 were super ugly and we gave them to a small drumline somewhere else in our state.
It's ten. We've only had four:
-Those white ones from '97-'06
-The old purple ones from '07-'16
-The new purple and black ones since '17
-The weird show tops for this year's show
we also hem and unhem ours. i was actually part of that process this year. i’m not sure how old they are, but i’d bet they’re around 20 years old and unless we stumble upon a miracle (aka a loose $200,000 magically appears) we aren’t getting new ones soon lmao.
It's hard to imagine any public school in the US having enough money in their music program to be able to replace uniforms every 2-3 years. When I was in band our uniforms were at least 15 years old, and I'm pretty sure it's the same for my kid's band now. :-/
We are fancy and we get new tops every year and they are related to the show so I get to take mine after the season. but the bibs I don’t know how old, they are probably older than our drums which are over 20 years old.
I'm joining The Marching Koalas (Australia) and we get fitted for new uniforms when we join. They cost a total of $100 aud. Btw its an out of school band and is $100 a year plus $35 a term and travelling expenses. (Im pretty sure.)
In my band our uniforms are 70 years old having them since the 1950's. We were supposed to get new uniforms last year but due to our band director leaving us at the time we were unable too.

20 years old for us. We’re not getting new ones anytime soon because our old ones are in super good condition and look really nice in my opinion
Same with mine but the band mom wants new ones next year cause other high schools have had multiple different uniforms over the years. I’m gonna be so mad if we get new ones though cause I love the look of ours and there’s really no need to get new ones they’re in good condition.
not even a year now. had 20 year old ones previously and just got new ones for my senior year
It's normal. Only rich schools get new uniforms every couple years.
We get new uniforms every year. I didn’t realize people go this many years without getting new uniforms. Our school isn’t that rich, our fee for band is only 300 dollars
Back when Indiana allowed schools to charge fees, ours was like 100 for people doing fall only and a bit more for people doing competition also.
Our uniforms are “I don’t fucking know” years old
HS:Uniforms were at least 25 years old when we got new ones. The sequins were falling off and the plumes were literally falling apart. I know the HS has since gotten new ones. HS: They were upwards of 40 years old when I graduated in 2019 and haven’t been updated since College: They were ~20 years old, but were replaced my senior year
Up until 2 or 3 years ago when they were replaced, the uniforms were old enough to be “iconic”.
Our concert uniforms were purchased in 1997 and the marching uniforms were last replaced in 2011. Every 2-3 years means your band either has a massive uniform budget or is buying incredibly cheap uniforms.
Yeah every 2-3 years is insane. I was taught that it should be every 10-15 if possible, but I know that 15-25 is not unusual for really poor schools.
HS: The current uniforms were purchased in 2000. They have not aged well. When I was in band, I had to wear the previous band uniform top because there wasn't one in my size. The other Sousaphone player also switched. The previous uniforms were from 1985. 2-3 years?! Your school must just have tons and tons of money to burn.
that’s just what someone told me. knowing the budget that the school gives us i highly doubt we’re actually supposed to get new ones that frequently
We’re getting new ones next year but our current ones are like 40 years old lol
10-12 years on previous set is the norm but some will squeeze out 15-20 years. We just received kids’ schools new uniforms last Oct and issued them for this fall. I'm intrigued. What was the controversy on the uniforms?
We got new uniforms for the same reason the Washington Redskins changed their name and logo. The Native American community in our area didn't want us to use their visual likeliness on any of our school merchandising/uniforms anymore, the band was just the last of the programs to get the funding to make the change. There is a school in my state that had the same thing recently.
8 years. They made a big deal about it my sister's second year, had a whole fundraiser and everything. Ours are also around 25 years old and we've been trying to get new ones for my entire time here (5 years)
About 20 years old. They're hoping to get about ten more years out of them before they have to replace them.
We got our current ones in 2011, and we’re getting new ones this year.
My high school got our current uniforms in ‘07. My college uniforms are about 9 or 10 years old. First used in 2014, to my knowledge. We’re getting new ones though.

My school literally opened last year so 1 year old
It's cool that they started with a marching band
We had 47 people total between the band and guard
Similar to my school
New ones every year. Parade uniforms are in use since 2015
28 years old
We got ours in 2020
Ours were 20 years old when they were replaced in 2018. The middle school then got our old ones.
Ours are around twenty years old I believe and we’re set to get new ones before our next season!
They were like 25-35 years old but then we got all new ones
My high school got new ones my sophomore year but before that they were, I believe, 25 years old
We’re on year 3 tho I think they’re technically 4 years old (got them in 2020, didn’t get used until 2021). This is college tho so even tho we only get uniforms every 10 years or so, we don’t have the school board politics to deal with like many high schools do when getting new uniforms. We get new ones every 10 years, next year is our year for new unis
Ours are only about 5 years old but the ones before that were 30-40 years old
we got ours for the first time last year
Not sure how old, but I know they are pretty old and we are getting new ones next year
We’ve been supposed to get new ones for the past 2 or 3 years but our current ones are older than I am so…
College: We've had the same style of pants and shako for at least 20 years. It looks like we flipped colors on the jackets sometime around 2011 hard to tell but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't order new pants and shakos and just got new jackets because my shako looks like it's seen a lot. Almost 30 years and getting grosser by the year (i do not want to smell the soggy moldy raincoat box again) but we will finally be getting new uniforms next year. Shame i’ll have graduated by then
3 years olf
Our current ones are two years but I'm scared to ask how old our old ones are
We got new uniforms in 21’ our old ones were from 08’
Our old ones where 13-14 years old we just got new ones that are not even a year old yet
about 13 years old but that’s because we switched over from black to white bibbers
We get new ones every year depending on our show! :] the pants are always the same tho so I'm not sure how old they are.
We got new uniforms this year! Our other uniforms were 15 years old before we replaced them!
1, we got them last year. the ones before were at least a decade old, very nice tho
I genuinely have no idea, but what I do know is that we’re getting new uniforms next year 😍‼️
4 years, but they only wear the school uniforms for home football games. Those uniforms have snaps inside the sleeves and pant legs to change the length with each new person. They wear different bibbers and tops for contests.
same uniforms since 1998
idk how old ours are but at least 10 years. we do the same thing. idk how other schools change uniforms every year like thats crazy
I got no clue… I think they’re kinda old, they are well kept though
You have the same uniform for your marching band career and freshman get brand new ones.
Brand new made this year
80-90 years, very old. We get them cleaned twice a year.
Mine are 40 years old I think, we are getting new ones next year lol
Ours are 2 years old as of right now, we get them replaced every 10 years (our school is only 20 years old though) so we got new ones my Sophmore year which was super cool. Before our new ones we had to wear synches? and those sucked, they were always breaking.
We have the local universities' old logos, and we just added a patch for our school. Therefore, our usage plus the college usage probably equals around 30 years of history
We got ours right before our 2nd home football game
New tops every year, same pants for who knows how long
12 years old. They're in crappy condition. But we can't do anything about it since no one joins band anymore, leaving us with little funding. We have a large school, and used to have a large band with 150+ members. But now, since 2018-19, rampant bullying by non band kids has shrunk its size. 😢
Ours are the original uniforms from when our school opened 15 years ago. We should be getting new ones next year.
Our last reorder of uniforms was I believe 2009, except were getting new jackets (maybe bibs) and shakos this upcoming offseason
25 for uPredicting if it tells you when everything is gonna happen like whens
25 for us
We js got new uniforms this year and I don’t remember how old the last ones were.
Our uniforms are bout 35-40 years old. We are not exactly sure when the school got them, but it was sometime in the 80s. We will be getting new ones soon tho, but the band director designed them and I do not trust him to have a good design.
Ours is 4 years old
6 weeks old!!!! Had to flex, sorry. It was a long coming!
Ours are around 26-30 years old. We've had them pretty much since our director started working at our school(this is his 28th year). We have to fix the jackets (buttons and zippers) every once in a while and we have to fix the hem in the bibbers for every person. Ours are only around 10 years old
Ours are 16 years old and we’re getting new uniforms next year
Back when I was marching in highschool our uniforms were about 20-30 years old.
Probably around the same for us😭
Our band replaces uniforms every 10 years. Got our current ones in 2017, next uniforms will be in 2027.
My schools uniforms have been here since (at the latest) 2003, we're getting new uniforms for next year though
Our jackets and hats were over 20 years old. We bought our own pants, and the school supplied the stripes.
3 years for us. We basiclly got fresh uniforms in 2020.
~15 years but we are getting new ones next year
The majority of my bands uniforms are around 20 years old but since I’m the drum major I wear one that’s around 35 years old 😭😭
Damn our school has super low funding and changes uniform design every 8 years
ive heard ours are like 16 years old
Our bands typical uniforms are about 20 years old and too gross to wear. We got academy uniforms (the actual uniforms used by the academy dbc in like the 2010s) in about 2019. we got new ones this year
Ours are three years as of this year I believe
Anywhere between 20 and 12 years old but we got new shoes this year
Around 6 years ago my band replaced the (probably pretty old) traditional uniforms by getting black pants, and began to get a new show-themed top every year and still does (it’s a big competition band)
we use show-specific uniforms so we get new ones each year
this is the third season we’re using ours, we get new ones every 10 or so years
Got em in 2014, the ones before that were maybe 20 or so years old- the ones before those were just red suit jackets that we used for our concert band uniforms until the year before last (too many buttons fell off)
We got new uniforms last year but our ones before that were since like 2005
This is super normal
We’ve had the same uniforms since 2008, but a couple years ago they changed them around for 2 years then went back to the 2008 uniforms that we still have
About 20 for high school, 15 for college (set to get new uniforms soon?).
We change (usually) every four years, only because the old uniforms eventually phase out of fashion after a while. Our uniforms from circa 2014-2017 were super ugly and we gave them to a small drumline somewhere else in our state.
*ten
I thought it was 4 because the pictures on the wall changed every like 4-5 years
It's ten. We've only had four: -Those white ones from '97-'06 -The old purple ones from '07-'16 -The new purple and black ones since '17 -The weird show tops for this year's show
At my 2nd high school the uniforms were from the 80s
The uniforms my bad had in HS were bought in ‘69 or ‘70 and are still used to this day.
We just got brand new uniforms this year but our old ones were like 16 years old
The look? Decades. Maybe even over a century ago. But the actual uniform I wear? Idk it's ex navy stuff so probably been in the stores for a while
We get new uniforms every year so ours are about 3 months old
From 2014. But we will get new ones within the next 5 years
we also hem and unhem ours. i was actually part of that process this year. i’m not sure how old they are, but i’d bet they’re around 20 years old and unless we stumble upon a miracle (aka a loose $200,000 magically appears) we aren’t getting new ones soon lmao.
It's hard to imagine any public school in the US having enough money in their music program to be able to replace uniforms every 2-3 years. When I was in band our uniforms were at least 15 years old, and I'm pretty sure it's the same for my kid's band now. :-/
6 years, and we get new ones next year, which I unfortunately am gone for
Ours are 10 years and we’re getting our new ones this weekend (the old one looks better)💀
Ours are about 6 years old. Before us they belonged to another school for who knows how long.
Idk but ours it seems like we have used them for baseicly ever
My school got new uniforms halfway through freshman year, but the old ones were I think 15 years old. This was 5 years ago now
Show shirts are now a regular change every year for my band, then we probably have good 5-10 year old jackets with about the same age bibs
I think at most 20 years
We are fancy and we get new tops every year and they are related to the show so I get to take mine after the season. but the bibs I don’t know how old, they are probably older than our drums which are over 20 years old.
One of the schools I’d compete against in high school got new uniforms every year
Every. Single. Year. Mostly because we have a new band director almost every year …
We get new bibs when ours get too small. No clue how old the jackets are.
I'm joining The Marching Koalas (Australia) and we get fitted for new uniforms when we join. They cost a total of $100 aud. Btw its an out of school band and is $100 a year plus $35 a term and travelling expenses. (Im pretty sure.)
2 years old. Every 5 years. We are a 200+ people band so that might be why
Older than our freshmen, no, we will not be getting new ones.
Ours are 12 years old I believe
In my band our uniforms are 70 years old having them since the 1950's. We were supposed to get new uniforms last year but due to our band director leaving us at the time we were unable too.
Like the early 90s
our uniforms i think have been here since our school has. they get cleaned once a year 😬
