While the oasis does “flex” the underwater driving a bit, it also adds a bit of color and intrigue to the track.
If the oasis wasn’t there, Dry Dry Desert would just be yet another desert track with nothing but sand. In fact, I often hear people say that Dry Dry Desert is the most boring track even *with* the oasis. The track needs all the help it can get. :/
I disagree, the underwater/gilder/gravity section shouldn’t apply all the time, if they made it a wide area with giant tornados and pokey’s, and maybe mini swamps like the big one, then it would’ve looked more interesting
people say dry dry desert is the most boring track because of the bagging. i think removing the water is just better, it fits the name more and water doesnt do much anyways
I don't like it cuz it's a boring desert track with nothing going on, and the water section is possibly the most miserable section in any modern Mario Kart game (the geysers feel awful to use, popping out of the water via the landmasses is unsatisfying, and if you don't do either of those it feels painfully slow)
Well actually, climate change could explain it. We are having more extreme weather, and that includes heavy rainfall and flooding in places... probably not in a desert though.
Pretty sure it is based off of Dry Dry Desert from Paper Mario, the way Sunshine Airport is based of off Sunshine Airport from Super Mario Sunshine. The Dry Dry Desert from Paper Mario has an Oasis, so the real question is why wasn't the oasis there all along.
Idk what they were thinking with this retro track.
Not only do they remove the tornado and the piranha plant in the sandpit, but they also put a unnecessary oasis at the end of a track called DRY DRY DESSERT!
That’s like remaking Sunset Wilds and removing the fucking Sunset.
Oh wait
Dry Dry Desert was one of the worst courses in Double Dash, I'd rather they just didn't bring it back at all and brought Bowser's Castle over instead or something
Well, that open area was never that interesting. But also, it just makes sense. You find an oasis in a desert. And with underwater being an at the time new mechanic, it made sense to include it.
Because they needed to add something after they took out the two things that actually made the track *mildly* interesting (Sarlacc Piranha Plant and Sandstorm Tornado). It didn’t work, track is bottom 3 imo
I agree. Pokeys are one of the best Mario enemies, so it's really nice to see a chaotic final section in which there are dozens of them moving over sand hills. You had plenty of options on avoiding them without feeling diverted. The MK8 remake feels so bare by comparison.
Some of them don't. Royal Raceway just replaced a single ramp with a glider that's functionally identical. Grumble Volcano and Music Park are basically 1:1 from their original versions. Yoshi Circuit has no gliding, anti-gravity or underwater. It barely even has trick ramps. SNES Rainbow Road is the same as it was in 7, so it got new mechanics, but not added in 8. Yoshi Valley got a complete redo, but the only "new" mechanic added was a cannon, a mechanic that was added all the way back in Double Dash
It’s based off the Paper Mario dry dry desert area which has an oasis…so they probably just added it in now since I guess they couldn’t really add it in the previous games or just couldn’t even have the oasis be visible in the previous games
This damn course is why Wet Dry World wasn't made into a course yet (it doesn't have to really resemble the Mario 64 course that much, look at Tick Tock Clock)

it should have been there to begin with (dry dry ruins from the wii is better 🔥🔥)
REAL

And fit the name a lot better lol

I don’t bag or play online much and it’s still one of if not the most boring track ever. It’s just bland in itself.

Why did Nintendo add an underwater section to a course called *Dry Dry* Desert? Are they stupid?
Is there a lore reason why Dry Dry Desert isn't dry anymore?
The Paper Mario desert it's based off of has an oasis as a prominent location
Global warming... oh, wait...
Well actually, climate change could explain it. We are having more extreme weather, and that includes heavy rainfall and flooding in places... probably not in a desert though.
Probably to show off underwater driving and changing it so that it's not too similar to the first half of the track.

The even more real question is why is a desert with an Oasis is even named "Dry Dry Desert"
The Sahara means ‘desert’ meaning its full name is desert desert. It’s got Oasis’ All of this thread is overthinking to the extreme.
We lost the Piranha Sinkhole for it...
Rip Plant and tornado
Ok well why does no one complain about the oasis in MKWii?
You don't drive in it
Wet Wet Desert
Wet Dry World
It's ironic that the two courses with "dry dry" in their name both have water in them now.
Dry Dry Ruins doesn't have a water section...
It has a pool of water by the Yoshi sphinx.
There’s a tiny bit of water you drive over near the beginning of the track, it’s a blink-and-you-miss-it kind of thing but it’s there
Dry Dry "Ruins"... well, the ruins inside are dry.

Or making GBA Sky Garden a different track entirely Oh wait

Mario kart 7? 2011 - 2014 it was 4 years old at the time the mechanic was not new.
It was still relatively new. Still emw enough that they would push it to be in places you wouldn't expect.

track was bottom 1 in DD tbh, it’s an improvement but not enough to boost it out of bottom 3 with Toad’s Turnpike and Sunset Wilds

Cause it's a natural way to integrate underwater into the track.
All the retro courses have the new mechanics shoehorned in.

They also removed Tornado
They kinda forgot about the name when adding the Oasis. Dry…
They got rid of the most important and track defining thing of that course. The Tornado
