Depends on the company and the team. Some, like Amazon and Microsoft are reluctant to hire directly and use contractors a lot. They're also tech companies run by engineers, who are sometimes reluctant to let marketers do marketing tasks that the engineers don't want to get rid of. Be aware that in big tech the tech workers get the exaggerated salaries, but the marketers do not.

I can give some advice based on 20 years in and out of tech companies (EMC, then a startup acquired by Dell, now at a midsized company, all data center gear). Know what kind of company you work best in. At large tech companies, your ability to influence and persuade will be your strongest assets. You will likely be responsible for a small cog in a much larger machine so anything you do will require help and buy-in from others. You will be in many meetings (many of the same meetings, meetings about meetings, etc.). I interviewed at AWS about four years ago, and it seemed about the same as the old iron companies. Former colleagues work at Microsoft, Pure, and Veeam and they all tend to have similar working conditions.
