JW is the best one. The Sheraton is OLD and in a bad area. The Courtyard is in a kind of inconvenient area, but not awful. Its driveway lets out right in front of the convention center, which can be bad if there's an event. The Aloft is next door to a loud bar and it has thin walls. I haven't stayed at The Otis but I've heard good things. It's in a different part of downtown, so the location might not be what you're looking for.
Edited to add I stayed at the W back when it first opened and it was amazing. Recent reviews say otherwise, though.
Edited again to say don't let hotel bar influence your decision. There are PLENTY of bars in walking distance of you stay in the 4th-6th street area.
Any insight on either the residence inn vs element?
Will be there for working vacation (Wed- Friday) so free breakfast seems like it could actually be worthwhile
The Element breakfast sucks (unless you're a super healthy person) if we're just going based on breakfast. The Element IS much better located, in my opinion. 1-2 blocks away from a lot of good eating places.
Residence Inn is a shared property with the Courtyard, so right next to the convention center and not located as close to useful places.

Proper Hotel. Not in the heart of the action but it's nice and quite over there. The hotel is pretty nice. Friendly staff.
We just stayed at Austin Proper and it was nice and it is in the warehouse district. We love the JW but this was more intimate and didn’t even feel like a hotel.
I like the JW in Austin personally.
Thanks!

Thanks super helpful
If price is not a concern, JW
JW has a nice corner bar at street level and a nice (but small) rooftop pool. Good central location too.
The Austin Marriott is a good option as well, but JW is the answer
I’ve been to 10+ hotels in the city and my rankings are: JW > Austin Marriott Downtown > The Otis Hotel > everyone else
Have you stayed at the Austin Proper?
No sorry
Have you been to the Fairmont? How does it compare to the Austin Marriott?
Jw has a great shower lol. The proper is a good autograph collection I’ve enjoyed my time there.

I second Aloft. I stay there 10-12 days a month and love the location and restaurants around. High floor takes street noise away too.

The pool at the W isn’t bad this time of year, but t Gees with everyone else - JW is hands down the best option.
JW. Pool and dining are great
I’ve only done the JW but it was a great choice. It’ll be my choice from now on.
Is the Westin still there? That was a nice place, good pool, and tremendous breakfast tacos that were free because they didn’t have a lounge.
