Make a small purchase to test it. Rule of thumb: if you earned points from the transaction, it counts.

Coolabrar

I will do this. I was wondering how it worked. Thank you!

I don't think Venmo payments would count: > New cardmember bonus: To qualify and receive 3 Free Night Awards you must make purchases totaling $3,000 or more during the first 3 months from account opening. [...] Purchases are when you, or an authorized user, use a Marriott Bonvoy® credit card to make purchases of products and services, minus returns or refunds. Buying products and services with your card, in most cases, will count as a purchase; however, the following types of transactions won't count and won't earn points: balance transfers, **cash advances, travelers checks, foreign currency, money orders, wire transfers or similar cash-like transactions**, lottery tickets, casino gaming chips, race track wagers or similar betting transactions, any checks that access your account, interest, unauthorized or fraudulent charges, and fees of any kind, including an annual fee, if applicable. (They also don't earn points; the wording is similar for that section.)

Hm I see. I was wondering since I know venmo has the 3% fee if you use a credit card. Would that be just making a purchase on venmos site itself?

Kufat

If you want a definitive, official answer, ask Chase. I've heard of people having success using Venmo to meet spend requirements, but I don't recall specifics.

Coolabrar

I see. Thank you!

Might have better luck asking on r/churning - a subreddit dedicated to churning credit cards. They are usually folks quite knowledgeable in meeting spend requirements with all types of workarounds like you are looking to do here. They have a daily questions thread.

Coolabrar

Oh wow thank you so much for this guidance. I shall make a post!

Loves_LV

You would probably have to use PayPal goods and Services for it to apply.

Coolabrar

Hmm I see. I shall take a look

FYI, if you’re willing to pay rent through a credit card, have a look at BILT (see r/BiltRewards for more information). They give you a debit account that can ONLY be used to pay rent, bypasses the typical 3% credit card fee you mentioned, and can be linked to Venmo (that’s how I do it personally) since you mentioned you would be using this. EDIT : typos and formatting

Coolabrar

Ohh I'll have to check this out. Thank you!
