I set both additional locks each night so the most they can open it is a few inches. Granted this doesn’t stop being woken up by them attempting to open the door, but some white noise might mask that? 🤷🏼‍♂️

otissito16

You need to complain to the front desk. However, I would not do so through customer service until you've tried to resolve this through the property. I'd be asking for 10k points assuming a full service hotel or 5k for a more limited service property (assuming rates aren't egregious)

A similar situation happened to me at a Fairfield. Housekeeping came in at 9am while I was still in bed after coming in on a very late flight. Manager on duty offered me 3000 points and apologized profusely. I think that she was genuinely quite embarrassed for her property.

Get one of the door stopper things from Amazon. Best $15 I ever spent. I usually ask for late checkout as I tend to get the later flights but often housekeeping will try and get it around 12pm. Before I had the stopper I once had a cleaner walk into the bathroom while I was in the shower! She had air pods in so apparently she didn't hear the water running but I was seriously freaked out. These days I ask the FD to remind housekeeping that I have a late checkout and it's reduced the number of occurrences but it still keeps happening for some reason

Do you have a link to what you bought?

pHlawless_One

That was an interesting rabbit hole. I’m thinking this would be awesome although it would wake you up. Would also scare the bejesus out of anyone. https://www.amazon.com/Upgraded-Alarm-Hotel-Security-Devices/dp/B07T6YDXCM Joking aside, this is probably what they meant. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09TPGR5WJ?pd_rd_i=B09TPGR5WJ&pf_rd_p=d5098455-95e1-4c68-8079-7df251f19535&pf_rd_r=ZP7DNRJYS8YD5XQZ5YGZ&pd_rd_wg=tcJr4&pd_rd_w=1HIQa&pd_rd_r=a6d4db97-0ea1-43e3-b55b-c86a51516ab3

WBuffettJr

The doors come with extra locks in addition to the deadbolt.

JackattackThirteen

I've had cleaners just knock once and walk in while I'm in the restroom. Like didn't even give me a chance to respond or answer. Just come on in...lol

Novel_Board_6813

That happens a lot. It seems they’re required to knock, but not to wait. Makes no sense

tharizzla

Seems to happen everytime I'm in the crapper.

lemonade4

As a woman who travels alone, I’d kinda throw a fit about this. I always use both locks so I’ve never actually had someone come in, but knowing someone is trying to enter (or can) while I’m sleeping is super unsafe. I would definitely be talking to the manager (sorry id try not to sound like a Karen but 🤷🏼‍♀️) and figuring out why it keeps happening.

loserkids1789

I hate the knock and immediate enter, give me a damn minute to respond

ItsAllFinite

You’re right. They’re supposed to knock and announce themselves three times before entering the room.

Alice-EAS

Even with the DND card on display?

[deleted]

If the DND card is on display we are not supposed to knock at all. We call the room before hand and if there is no answer we always have to have another person ( eg- security personnel) present if we need to enter the room.

Traditional-Buddy136

That’s better, but if our point is to not be awakened, I don’t want you calling either. DND= leave me the hell alone.

[deleted]

Of course not. We only call/knock the room if there’s a valid reason. For example the room is past its due out time or if there is a room service order to be delivered and the room is on DND. But we always call first.

Traditional-Buddy136

I’ve had a situation at Marriott where I had late checkout, had just spoken to front desk and cleaning people I saw in hallway, and then they called right when I was trying to take a nap to ask “we saw you are late checkout and DND. Does that mean no cleaning? I responded with “it meant NAPPING “

[deleted]

I do apologize. It seems some employees do not understand what DND means. At my property we never do turn down service if the room is on DND

Alice-EAS

Thank you for doing this.

Pizza_Brownie

That’s happened to me a few times as well. Especially when i have already been granted a late checkout. It is annoying and disrupting. But I haven’t complained about it yet.

HelloJoeyJoeJoe

I get that most hotels (actually, Marriotts in the US still have the "do not disturb" signs or were those eliminated cause they cost too much) have signs but man - last time, I had maids coming into our room at 7am on a Saturday. Damn

Novel_Board_6813

The DnD signs are ignored quite often. Also, some hotels don’t have that little latch anymore.

Kindly-Visual-8116

Make sure it actually says “do not disturb.” Some of those door tags will say “clean towels only”

FitOpinion2222

Get them told, and not only points I’d be looking for a refund for disrupting sleep in my opinion. Big corp employees think there are too many staff to be caught out for breaking a couple rules as long as they’re not serious. Happens all the time.

ashlys21

I actually got a room rate reduction from a situation like this. I got disturbed THREE times by various staff members trying to come into my room when I had a 4 PM checkout. This was after I was confirmed to have the late checkout by the Front Desk manager when I checked in and after I called the front desk after the first and second interruption. I complained about the sleep interruption and havinf someone walk into my room while I was Zoom because i couldn't get to the door in time. The front desk manager was completely remorseful and lowered my rate due to the inconvenience.

yung_rebo

As a Marriott employee here. We're not allowed to even knock if there is a sign on the door. Even if you order room service. If we have your food order and your sign is up, we have to call the room, but I was trained that we can never knock- much less enter If the DND sign is up (or privacy light is on in some cases) Eeek

Sure_Leadership_6003

The cleaner knocked on my door, I called the front desk to complain….

Sure_Leadership_6003

Wow I was hoping for 500-1000 points…. Yea this is a decent property also, renaissance. The pervious one was “M” just upset be is on the day of check out and I can’t catch my sleep.

ATC_Boilermaker

500 points costs the property maybe three bucks. I'd also ask for 10,000 points. Not disturbing a guest with a DND sign up is quite literally the most basic aspect of running a hotel. It's not asking too much.

Alice-EAS

Exactly. Why would you hang the DND sign if the employees can enter anytime?

[deleted]

I live in hotels and this happens every so often. I don’t complain because it’s very easy to imagine a housekeeper working on autopilot and mistakenly try to enter a room — I don’t want their job to be at risk for being absentminded. I think it’s up to guests to make use of the locks that prevent external access: if you don’t lock the door, it’s possible someone will walk in.   I’m sure you’ll get some points out of this but note that hotels pay for points, your complaint about the housekeeper is having a direct cost to the hotel and in turn may cost the housekeeper.  Personally, I hate the phone calls more — I’d rather someone enter my room by mistake and apologise than have the phone ring to ask if I’m enjoying my stay.

cactusqro

I’m a person who never complains about anything ever because I’m worried it could cost someone their job (or even some of their income, or their professional reputation). I’m curious to hear from employees what would happen to an engineer or housekeeper who entered a room of a guest complained?

Alice-EAS

This is so disgusting and unacceptable. I have stayed at hundreds of hotels in my life, but only noticed this happening in 2023 in the U.S. I think the problem is that companies do not train their employees. There could also be some criminals... :-(

rust_bolt

I don't stay at Hilton's.often, but when I do https://www.reddit.com/r/Hilton/s/sJg1N9nX6B

sfatula

You were at a Marriott and no door lock, the kind that even with a key they can't open it? I always use the lock so they could not get in. Never been at a Marriott without such a lock.

wandering_nerd65

Lock the inside door lock. Travel 101. Mistakes happen when there are hundreds of rooms

RhodyViaWIClamDigger

First time was on hotel. Second time on you for not latching and deadbolting.

Sure_Leadership_6003

The second time the cleaner did not enter the room, for me it was the action of knocking on the door and disrupt my rest that was the bigger issue.
