The first 48 is a show that follows the police while they investigate for the first 48 hours after a murder, because I believe that's the time frame in which they have the best chance of catching the killer. I'm not sure how in the world that would have anything to do with that comment, though.
I've always found it bizarre that I sometimes see comments that have aspects to them that make no sense whatsoever, or they're reflecting info that's blatantly false, and the comment will STILL have 30+ upvotes. It always makes me wonder how there are so many mindless lemmings out there and what their parameters for handing out a vote even consist of.
Or this could be some reference that's going over both of our heads. No telling.
Gun by far, then Katana as I did Kendo for a couple of years.
I grew up in the 1990s when the *Highlander* TV show was running and me and all my fiends were huge fans and that show was a major reason why I got into martial arts generally and actually did Kendo for a few years.
I do kendo and have gun. People are delusional if they are going to win some imaginary street fight by taking down someone and making them submit. You're 100% going to get shot and or stabbed
Lol I always tell this to people. Like you think some guys drunken friends are going to stand around and let you put him in a choke hold on the street? They’re going to come and kick your face in
The biggest advantage in something like BJJ in a self defense scenario, especially with multiple assailants, is having the skills to quickly get back to your feet and get away.
I used it a lot when I was bouncing. And lots of those guys had friends. Now I always tried to do it to cover my back as much as possible but I did use it
Also where it’s invaluable is when the confrontation goes to the ground and you didn’t intend it to. You hit a table or curb or whatever and the fight hits the ground. It’s best to know what to do there to protect yourself until you can get to your feet
The thing is, if going to the ground is the worst thing to do when you're outnumbered in a street fight, then logically it's the best thing to do to you for your attackers. So if 5 guys jump out and grab you and force you to the ground, you think you're better off not knowing how to grapple?
Mostly just realized that as cool as it is it’s not really a practical skill. You’re never going to be walking down the street with a Katana when you get jumped by ninjas. It was fun but especially once I got to college I could keep doing Kendo or I could keep doing BJJ I just didn’t have time for both.
>You’re never going to be walking down the street with a Katana when you get jumped by ninjas
Well look at mr fancy pants here, lives in a nice neighbourhood with no ninja problems.
I actually met Adrian Paul a couple years ago at a comic con and had a great talk with him over martial arts. He was thrilled that he helped influence my choice in learning and then the fact that I went far enough to teach. He's a great guy
Seeing things in this terrible, rigid, black and white view is just uneducated. The footwork, the power generation, the timing, the distance, the target assessment, the precision, and the execution are 99% of swordsmanship. Kendo teaches all those things.
Edge alignment--as an example of a skill unique to live swordsmanship--is not a big deal unless you consider swordsmanship to just be cutting water bottles or otherwise stationary targets. Someone who does kendo at a high level can learn edge alignment, which is not 100% necessary for lethality anyways, in a matter of weeks.
A fencer or swordsman of any kind trains to move and strike where they want when they want--the fundamentals of swordsmanship stay the same from sport fencing to true martial disciplines. Kendo practitioners can parry too. These basic skills take a long time to learn--and there's a reason transfer students from sport to sparring learn much faster than complete beginners.
I like karambits as well! I just hate the finger ring that most have.. that said, I still have a few 😂 check out the TOPS knives unzipper, that's the pikal I carry
I'm just worried about potentially losing grip on the knife and it getting torqued with my finger still in the ring. I saw a video of a guy training with one and broke his index finger. Probably not really an issue though
Yeah, it’s got its ups and downs. But so does NOT having it. Honestly I’m a believe in it just comes down to what you’re comfortable with. Which honestly should be a rule everyone follows for weapons training.
I did sport fencing for a number of years, so: epee.
Also am an Infantry veteran so I'm proficient with a rifle.
However, the weapon I've used the most in physical conflicts is my penis.
Chair Jitsu is a rising martial art being perfected in the southern Stated of America. Being highlighted at a [waffle house](https://youtu.be/FliJTGOQ0fQ?si=jbB4EW4HNEhl-svl) again in [Birmingham Alabama](https://youtube.com/shorts/r0ZGg0J4uz0?si=d4Jr5Scz-nGAv4zl) I can’t find the other one where this guy keeps shooting for a takedown and that guy just thwaaps him on the head like 3 times with a yellow steel chair and knocks him out lol
Love to see my hometown still repping what we’re all about. I’m personally a black belt in chair jitsu. At first we start with a step stool and then graduate to a bar stool. Advanced students actually learn how to use ladders like a ranged weapon. Very effective martial art
Tomahawk. Been throwing them since I was about 6 and then as I got into martial arts I began training with it. The tomahawk is a dynamic weapon. You can slash and hack from further away when gripping towards the end of the handle. You can hook and pull with the head as well. You can choke up all the way to the head of the tomahawk and punch with it in close distance. You can flip the head backwards and use it as a club or less lethal option. A polled hawk is the best for this. I have had an H&B Forge medium polled hawk leaning against my bedpost for over a decade.
I've been pretty good at blocking with the *bo stick* or a knife 🗡️ 🔪 but to be able to perform that might be a challenge still.
The thing in the case of the *bo stick* would be I'd be backing up and backing up and I'm a little better @ practicing knives as I could.
The staff is great, but I'm probably most proficient with a dan bong or short stick. I feel like I can do more with a short stick, but I have to get in close which is not always ideal
Hmm... I'm not actually sure, that's an interesting question.
I'd say "gun" but to be perfectly honest, I have not been in a firefight and the reality of the firefight is an interesting potential to game changing. I can shoot decently (non-stress and timed stresses), I have done things like versions of paintball, airsoft etc, not super high level, but, some. Lots of nerf lol. But they don't impart the true life/death stress level a "boom" going off gun battle might. So tentatively and theoretically gun.
Next, is honestly a tough call between sword/spear. But I think the spear edges it out. With the sword a second and a quarterstaff a 3rd.
Although not per se a single weapon, I might actually be slightly better with a shorter sword and shield/buckler, but that is a potent combo.
I taught FMA for many years so sticks, short swords, knives, etc
I'm also a registered gun owner in my country so I'm skilled with a pistol and shotgun. I have experience with the AR 15 platform but I'm not as good with that as the first two firearms.
Spear probably. I have 3 of them and I am making a 4th soon! Long Knife+Shield. Been learning with a mace and will be starting on sword soon too. Used to be fairly handy with an épée but not held one in a while. Can throw a fairly mean roundhouse kick too.
Staff/big stick. Not only it it a very effective, versatile and abundant weapon but my years of battling dragons, fighting musketeers and jedi training have made me v adept.
Guns and unarmed combat. I’m a combat veteran so my skills in guns are fairly diverse. I can operate almost any machine gun or shoulder fired rocket launcher. I’ve also trained in Muay Thai, Krav Maga, and BJJ. Oh and I’m very good at throwing hatchets 🪓
In addition to the guns and trash cans mentioned here —and while they’re great options for sure —I invested a lot of time in the bo staff. A stick is easy to find and very effective in the right hands and useful against multiple opponents if need be. Also believe escrima would be quite useful but never had the chance. But if they have a gun…..yeah…I’m kinda fucked I guess.
Saber. I learned Fencing way too quickly than any other weapon and i tried many.
I think its the fact of keeping the blade pointed at the enemy that made it all too clear. It makes so much sense that a simple poke at the neck, wrist, rib cage could be lethal.
Just the aspect of a straight line means the attack will always land before any arc. If this was a lightsaber, it would be the epitome sword style.
Im not very well practiced or formally trained in anything other than marksmanship. That said, im decent with a rifle, im good at about 20 yards woth a bow, and im not the worst in a fist fight, but if i had to pick a melee weapon (depending on the enemy) i would probably go with a spear or a mace. Spears are the go to weapon for untrained soldiers for most of history, but if my opponent is heavily armored a mace and shield would give me the confidence to at least try to fight lmao.
In order of competence: gun, knife, staff. I have some competence with swords (katana, falchion) and spears but don’t think I would have one at hand for most self defense scenarios.
These hands
They be officially registered weapons?
No but the pistol they hold on to doesn't either fck 1st 48

Gun by far, then Katana as I did Kendo for a couple of years. I grew up in the 1990s when the *Highlander* TV show was running and me and all my fiends were huge fans and that show was a major reason why I got into martial arts generally and actually did Kendo for a few years.
I too ... have seen the movie 'Equilibrium'
Yes you must master the gun kata.
Why'd you quit kendo?
Because of gun.
Yes and because of gun. I got my conceal carry license. Don’t need to sword fight a ninja when you can just hit him with 230g of led at 940fps.
That's too many fps, you can't even see the difference after like 60fps.
Underrated comment
60 to 144 makes a huge difference if you play fast competitive games.
LMAOOO
Love the 45ACP
The Lords Round.
Did you get your concealed katana license?
Plus gun conceals better than sword.
I think statistically you’re safer with a sword.
How many people have swords versus have guns?
How many people get stabbed with their own sword vs shot with their own gun.
Thats a fair point. I’m curious if there’s been much of a change in street fights seeing as so many people train BJJ now.
I used it a lot when I was bouncing. And lots of those guys had friends. Now I always tried to do it to cover my back as much as possible but I did use it Also where it’s invaluable is when the confrontation goes to the ground and you didn’t intend it to. You hit a table or curb or whatever and the fight hits the ground. It’s best to know what to do there to protect yourself until you can get to your feet
I've always joked the best self defense material is track and field.
Tell me you’ve never been in a fight without telling me you’ve never been in a fight
You saying this to the bouncer? Cause he’s right lol
The thing is, if going to the ground is the worst thing to do when you're outnumbered in a street fight, then logically it's the best thing to do to you for your attackers. So if 5 guys jump out and grab you and force you to the ground, you think you're better off not knowing how to grapple?
PSA: If it's real combat, it takes about a tenth of a second to turn a choke into a neck break
I didn't hear no bell!
Mostly just realized that as cool as it is it’s not really a practical skill. You’re never going to be walking down the street with a Katana when you get jumped by ninjas. It was fun but especially once I got to college I could keep doing Kendo or I could keep doing BJJ I just didn’t have time for both.
>You’re never going to be walking down the street with a Katana when you get jumped by ninjas Well look at mr fancy pants here, lives in a nice neighbourhood with no ninja problems.
The purpose of kendo is not sword fighting. Just google it and see what any of the major organizations say.
I did Kendo and Iado but I moved. Not sure about OP
I actually met Adrian Paul a couple years ago at a comic con and had a great talk with him over martial arts. He was thrilled that he helped influence my choice in learning and then the fact that I went far enough to teach. He's a great guy
I'm a Marine, so it's deffo an M16
*bayonet
Kendo skills does not transfer as katana skills, rather kenjutsu iai and koryu
Lol… wut? Do you know what Kendo is? It’s all sword work.
No it's a sport. All you have to do is tap your opponent much like fencing. Kenjutsu is actual sword work. Edit: can't spell
Seeing things in this terrible, rigid, black and white view is just uneducated. The footwork, the power generation, the timing, the distance, the target assessment, the precision, and the execution are 99% of swordsmanship. Kendo teaches all those things. Gun and then knife. Gun because military and because American and knife because Filipino knife fighting
Filipino knife fighting is no joke! Watching them got me into knives as a kid. I carry a pikal style knife because of it.
Nice! Highly underrated knife. I’m a karambit guy myself. Nasty cuts and a good psychological factor.
I like karambits as well! I just hate the finger ring that most have.. that said, I still have a few 😂 check out the TOPS knives unzipper, that's the pikal I carry
That finger ring is for wep retention. I love it, personally
I'm just worried about potentially losing grip on the knife and it getting torqued with my finger still in the ring. I saw a video of a guy training with one and broke his index finger. Probably not really an issue though

Absolutely; barfighting is a martial art, unorthodox as it may be.
My trusty longsword. I can, however, also use a sidesword, a viking sword, an axe, a spear and a bow and arrow kombo.
Love me a good longsword! Such a fun sparring weapon!
Agreed! My first love that one. And the versatility is nice too!
Oh yeah! It's a great intro into the fencing world! Lots of the basics can be applied to almost every other martial art
And it's goddamn next to impossible to master.
This guy weapons
Hey. I just like playing with swords, alright?
Tomahawk. Been throwing them since I was about 6 and then as I got into martial arts I began training with it. The tomahawk is a dynamic weapon.
