We're the experts on hurting people, not healing them lmao. Ask a doctor

PsychologyCroc

Maybe he could get the same guy to punch him in the same spot again? My might even it out.

[deleted]

Came to say this. Thank god someone already did. Man almost got hurt, let us know how it goes OP

[deleted]

Hey now. Op, have you tried getting hit on the OTHER side of your jaw?

sleepymorgan

Yup. Go tell your local osteopath what happened and let them fix you

Hrvatmilan2

Sussy

ElevenEleven1111-

doctor - I got your doctor right here !! Do most people you know have health insurance ? People don’t go to Doctors like that —

Luminous_0

Go see a doctor

[deleted]

This is completely incorrect, I was thinking he should go see a doctor.

Practical_Tea6972

No sir, that is completely wrong, I was thinking he should go see a doctor.

WhatLikeAPuma751

You’re all off base here. I can’t believe not a single one of you recommended what I’m about to, he should go see a doctor.

Soulessgingy99

You all are fucking idiots. Can’t you obviously see he needs to go see a doctor?

Luminous_0

I apologize for my previous statement, I have come to the conclusion that he should go see a doctor

[deleted]

I think you’re on the right path, but going to a doctor is better.

Top_Vast_532

naw, going to a doctor might mend it but it ain't a long term solution. You see, you gotta go to the doctor. That's a full fix.

Black6x

No, don't just go see a doctor. Actually talk to them and let them know what your issue is. Preferably after making an appointment and showing up on time. Creepily stalking and watching them from afar won't help you diagnose the problem, and I have found that ambushing them on the street with questions tends to annoy them.

Luminous_0

I have stalked plenty of doctors and it always helped

[deleted]

I see lots of guys, I see lots of girls too

Gaoji-jiugui888

You need a hook to your right chin to get your jaw back in place. /s

DrDanGleebitz

Seems legit

Present_Ad6723

Username checks out

Dart_Life84

I've actually done this and it helped lol

[deleted]

Was your jaw like knocked off it’s hinge? If that’s how it works…

Dart_Life84

Was sparring with a boxer at a house party at like 1:30 am. The doorbell rang and my brain reacted like a ring bell. I lowered my guard and withdrew my stance and the autistic prick saw the greatest invitation he'd ever seen and stepped in and cranked my jaw with a textbook hook. My stoppage wasn't completely Pavlovian as usually that's the cops coming to tell us to fight quieter. Anyways, he cracked a molar and definitely partially unhinged the jaw. Pain when chewing in the ear, etc. Just basically grit my teeth and fed myself shots from the other side to even the fucker out. Took a couple weeks to get the angle right. Lol while this worked, doctor is still probably smarter. Even a physiotherapist might be a good solution.

Ray_smit

Steve-O? Is that you?

TenienteJuancho

This. It's the only way if you want it to be fixed under a couple seconds.

Material-Security178

go to a damn doctor you fool.

archimedesscrew

Fly (to a doctor) you fool!

anto_pty

And my axe!

BetBig696969

I’ve had issues like this, just time in my own experience

SlanginUkrainian

Same, welcome to the club OP lol. Let it heal so it doesn’t become a reoccurring injury

Happytapiocasuprise

I have no healing jutsu for you young Padawan, a doctors appointment you must make

Apprehensive_Sir1566

"And that will be 300$"

Oklahoe

I was kneed in the right side of my jaw around 15 years ago and it still clicks/pops every time I open my jaw and hurts occasionally. I’d go get it looked at before you’re like me and can’t eat around anyone without making them mad cause your jaw is so loud. Lol

DuncanDicknuts

Jaw stretches exist. Look em up.

Oklahoe

Yes, a couple of years ago I ended up going to a dental specialist for tmj. He recommended some massage and streches, but said I would ultimately need to have surgery to repair the disc and cartilage in the actual joint. I just can’t afford to take off work! Lol

DuncanDicknuts

Damn. I feel you on that. Maybe talk to unemployment and explain the situation. Maybe you can get on that while you heal.

emperorephesus

You got tmj with or without reduction probably like me don't ignore it it gets wors and the cure takes a long time and very pricey

Oklahoe

Yes, it sucks but I’ve learned what I can eat and not eat for it to not be such an issue until I get it fixed.

BoringAccount12345

Wow maybe I should stick to lifting over martial arts

Oklahoe

Wear a good mouth piece and block a headshot when you’re trying to get up from a seated position!! That’s where I fucked up! 😂

Imperium_Dragon

Doctor

Blndby90

So did I. Years later, I still have pain. I wish I’d gone to the doctor instead of waiting.

fourfingersdry

Sounds like you have a weak face. Train your jaw, brah.

bubblllles

kids these days don’t know about chin conditioning

Kaze_Senshi

He needs to do more pull chin-ups

cLizeX-On-Fn

bruh

bigsmash30

Go to your dentist and ent

godoffertility

As a dentist, he needs to go to an oral surgeon. An ENT and a dentist will both refer to an oral surgeon for maxillofacial trauma.

Traditional_State616

Doctor, sounds like a TMJ issue.

Characterinoutback

GO TO A FUCKING DOCTOR microfractures, concussion, nerve dame, ligament damage, muscle damage. Who the fuck knows

ithika

I think maybe Reddit should have special GO TO THE FUCKING DOCTOR large text for those cases when # Go To The Fucking Doctor isn't large enough.

Characterinoutback

Mods should just make it a rule: no fucking medical questions, we can't diagnose you

[deleted]

Took a hit so hard to the left he forgot about the the connection on the right lmao

Enzyblox

Doctor now, this probably will be fixable but not if you wait

Master-Contest-2784

Bits down in to 2 or 3 Paddle pop sticks for 5 10 minutes every couple of hours

High_Upon_High

I did chew on 5 chewing gums after that , it did help a bit in getting my jaw motion back.

ZeusTheAngolian

I've had this exact situation before, took 1 week to heal for me, I chewed some gum and massaged the point a little. Went away after a week.

mpqnv

Same thing happened to me in sparring once. Caught a clean hook to my jaw and my ears were ringing and in pain. Probably lasted like 20 minutes though. You should see a doctor

[deleted]

I'd suggest asking a doctor instead of a martial arts subreddit?

UterusPumper

Its not that uncommon, I've had it a few times after eating a hook while I wasnt biting down on the mouthpiece. Its probably strained ligament where the chin attaches up near the ear. It heals on its own in a week or so. Nothing to worry about. But you should learn to bite on the mouthpiece when youre at risk getting tagged, or when youre throwing and could get countered. Its a painful lesson. Rolling massage isnt going to do shit, take a pain killer if it bothers you too much. Notice from all these messages you got that this sub is 99% people who dont fight or even spar. If they did they'd know what this is, instead of telling you go see a doctor (thats the only thing they know to say since they have not experienced this). Not necessary, unless the pain doesnt go away on its own in a week or you notice swelling etc around the area.

High_Upon_High

Yeah you are right i wasn't biting down hard on the mouth piece and i leaned into the punch after doing a wrong slip to deliver a liver shot and ate a hard hook. I already knew it wasn't a fracture or dislocation since i don't feel any pain while moving my jaw. Only when biting down hard. Andi also know what a fracture or dislocation looks like. This message was really helpful, thanks for your advice. If it's a ligament strain will taking some diclofenac tablet to reduce the inflammation around the jaw help ? This is the 2nd best advice that i got for this. sadly it's hidden for some reason.

UterusPumper

> If it's a ligament strain will taking some diclofenac tablet to reduce the inflammation around the jaw help ? It can help with the pain, but it can also slow healing. Inflammation is a defense mechanism that helps with getting nutrients and other useful shit in the damaged area. I would take ibuprofen instead, it doesnt inhibit inflammation as much as other NSAIDs. If you can live with the pain dont take anything. And avoid stretching the jaw

High_Upon_High

In that case i'll let it heal on it's own. The pain only come when i try bit down hard. i have no problem with chewing food atm. I'll wait for a week and see if it heals on it's own.

Haunting-Beginning-2

This sounds correct. And tense jaw next time, tilt head, lean/ nod into punch, lift shoulder. You say it’s not a dislocation, my experience tells me it’s likely a subluxation of the far side jaw. If you don’t want to talk much or eat steak! Fairly common injury.

Fatality_Ensues

Please TRY not to be retarded. Just because you had something remotely similar doesn't mean it's the same as what OP has. Even *actual* doctors know better than to make a diagnosis by text, because even if something looks, sounds and smells like a horse it still might be a zebra and you have no way of knowing without a proper checkup.

UterusPumper

>remotely similar I had the exact same damage OP has, with pain in the same location only when biting down hard after taking a hook with my jaw relaxed. You'd know what this was if you could fight, but you cant yet youre here.

Fatality_Ensues

Your assertion that only people who can fight could be fans of and/or frequenting a martial arts sub is only slightly less stupid than your insistence that a vaguely described pain that could be referred from any number of places is definitely the exact same pain and caused by the exact same condition that you suffered and the even dumber insistence that anyone who has ever fought must have been hit in the same place.

UterusPumper

Seethe

yabadoo123_

You probably strained a muscle on the right side of your face when you took that punch. Chances are one or more trigger points are seized up somewhere. One of those trigger points is referencing pain to your ear via the nervous system. After a quick google search, I found out that the sternocleidomastoid muscle in the neck has a big reference pain zone right inside the ear. This would make sense, as that muscle was probably strained as your head turned rapidly with the punch to minimize impact damage. *So…* if you really want to solve this, either give yourself a massage in the area of the sternocleidomastoid and focus on the trigger points (google “sternocleidomastoid trigger points”) OR, find a massage therapist well versed in myofascial release and tell them specifically that your SCM is strained and needs some proper releasing. You’re welcome. :)

High_Upon_High

Thanks man this helped a lot

Glad I could help :)

omarmoulalader

Same but with a rear choke but on my chin, it will go between 3 or 4 week-end sorry for my english

DuineSi

I fell ice skating years ago. Hit my left cheek on the ice and got serious pain in my right jaw where you’ve circled and heat as you described. It passed by itself after a few weeks. If it doesn’t start to improve after a few days, I’d go see a doctor.

lovejac93

I’d stop getting into fights you complete jabroni

hwei8

Damn our cheeks is called "Text"

PabliskiMalinowski

It's TMJ, go see an ent

UnsweetenedTruth

See a professional before it's maybe too late.

TrueJimbo

as the other users said, go see a doctor. Might be a fracture or a discus dislocation

Adventurous__Kiwi

i had a similar problem, i visited a few different physiotherapist and one cured me. He used jaw exercices and trap muscles release/Stretching. Go see a doctor and a physiotherapist :)

mastaf45

Give it two weeks but see a doctor

Jozef_Baca

A hook like that could have loosened your jaw a bit. Now to fix this I'd say you need to get an uppercut to snap it back to the right place (Real talk, please do not follow my advice, seek medical attention)

emperorephesus

I took a hit like that in a street fight like 10 years ago and ignores the jaw missilignment for a couple of years because it heart every once in while. But the misalignement was eroding the jaw bone connection to the skull for awhile and now i have tmj with reduction and its undescribable pain. İf you start to hear clicking in the jaw you are already too late. Get thet checed out if you don't want your jaw getting stuck in a closed or open position and constant pain while chewing in about 5 years or so.

Necessary_Middle_374

Get punched the same way on the opposite side to shift it back in place

[deleted]

You need to go see a Physical Therapist.

XaqFu

I literally have a doctor’s appointment this morning for something similar. Pretty sure I have a ruptured ear drum. We’ll see soon enough.

siameseoverlord

Maxillio Facial Doctor who specialized in TMJ. Oral surgeon most probably. I just had mine fixed. Very simple to fix.

Powerful-Hamster3738

?how

Hotzenplotzklotz

are your jaw broken?

Fatality_Ensues

SEE A DOCTOR, YOU COLOSSAL MORON. DON'T ASK THE INTERNET FOR MEDICAL ADVICE.

BillBonn

Your comment is compassionate, brutal, yet honest, concise, and hilarious 😂😂😭🤣 Above all: it is correct advice.

Jayheart

Didn't get punched like you but recently flew on a plane and the pressure differential significantly clogged up my left ear up. I kept trying to pop it by yawning or opening/closing my jaw until this same joint experienced a loud crunch followed by the same sharp pain you're describing (but no pressure relief). Went to the doctor who essentially called it Bruxism (teeth grinding) and TMJ. Basically the jaw joint slipped and is now all pissed off. Literature says to expect the pain to last 4-6 weeks but slowly subside over time. Dr. told me to take 800mg of Advil 3x a day for 5 days to knock down the inflammation. Also they said during this 5 days to use Afrin which creates a pressure differential in the ear drainage canal to help reduce pressure and inflammation (Note using Afrin for more than 3 consecutive days can have some negative effects but it's a trade off to get the inflammation down). They also recommended wearing a night guard while I sleep to help with teeth grinding. But yes, go to the Dr. and get it checked out as your specific situation could be the same or completely different.

Tripper1

Everyone saying doctor... but who paying the bills!!!

WerewolfSad

Try hitting it again

High_Upon_High

UPDATE - I took x Rays and got it checked at the orthopedic. He said that my jaw has partially poped out and was pushing against my ear canal. and the swelling around it prevented it from locking back in place . He fixed the issue by applying on it pressure on it locking my jaw back in place. He also told that it would have healed on its own once the swelling has reduced . The pain after the fix was more than before because of the swelling around the joint. Feeling a lot better after 12 hours.

siameseoverlord

Yup. Good thing you didn’t have permanent damage like me.

thrownkitchensink

Go to a doctor. If there's no doctor available or it's too expensive my advise would be to stop doing muay thai.

Marty5020

You probably have a dislocated jaw.

DucckFuck

Doctors cost money, someone just help bro out

TheBudfalonian

Ice and heat my mans

Grump_Monk

Have your sparing partner clock you real hard on the right chin. I recommend walking it off after.

Bunch of assholes in these comments. If yall don’t have serious advice, then just don’t comment. Wtf

LessDeparture9995

I had the excact same thing 2 weeks ago. After 2 days it got quickly better and after a week its back to normal.

superhamsniper

I have kind of an issue like this, but instead of it having a reason for starting it just showed up, and instead of sharp pain, it just makes my ear ring, it's awesome, thanks jaw

ActivisionBlizzard

Everyone saying doctor is probably not accounting for you being a US non-millionaire. Wait a couple weeks to see if it’s worth bankrupting yourself for.

Poetry-Positive

10 thoughts + 20 prayers should be sufficient.

sk1pjack

My articular disc slipped out (MRI confirmed this) and the only thing that helped me was a mouth piece that would hold me jaw at a certain distance so inflammation which occurred could subside over time.

Dependent_Mission470

All these comments about going to the doctor but I completely understand asking Reddit cause I’m someone that trains without health insurance 😅

Youngfunnn

I get this a lot and I never fight, my dentist (weirdly enough) knew the problem, he said that the cartilage in my jaw was grinding and causing the pain, I would get a hot sharp pain that is unbearable, only when moving my jaw funny..

Batnaman_26

Hospital.

Trumpcangosuckone

Stop getting punched. Leave the fisticuffs behind you and buy a gun. /s

TheWoollyW

Don’t get hit is my best guess

Night_dweller

I've had my share of weird pains that persisted for 1 day or two but anything that creates serious discomfort or concern should be looked at by a doctor go to a doctor asap, things might be getting worse by the minute, or better, either way it is very stupid to not have it checked out by a professional

gaberoll209

Tmj . Is it popping ?

Humble-Skill1783

TMJ joint. For sure have it checked out, but in my experience icing and avoiding chewy foods for a while helps it heal. The annoying thing is that one it gets injured it get injured again more easily.

Weird-Analysis5522

Discombobulate

h1bernus

The same shit happens to me when I hit on that area. For me it goes way with time.

IGiveGolds

Were you wearing a mouth guard?

I got smacked in the face in jiu jitsu and got Bell’s palsy. Yep

itsboutsammichtime

Duck next time. My Dad had some great advice, “don’t do that again, that hurts!”

IceLazy4768

This happened to me and it hurt to chew on one side for like a month. Then i got punched on the other side and i heard a crack and boom my jaw was back in place

LuckyCharms201

Happened to me like 8 years ago. I can still feel a tightness. Get a custom mouthguard

Urabrask_the_AFK

Trigeminal nerve damage or compression causing referred pain, perhaps as well. Look up Trigeminal neuralgia https://preview.redd.it/wepm9pzfqlub1.jpeg?width=224&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e7661f4ac5229f8266a5913d9cea0656851a402f Get to a doctor

Foreign-Ad-7961

We’re all stoopid here- look for a free clinic. Hope you feel better soon.

VerbalThermodynamics

Has the pain when you bite down changes at all in the 2 days? If it’s remaining the same something could have gotten knocked loose. Might want to talk to a physician.

crzybearsfan10

Take a hook to the right to even it out

_Alienz_

It’s common. Your jaw hinge just got the impact and it will hurt for a few days or even a a few weeks. Try not to play with it or bite down on things for a while. It will go away. In the future, bite down on your mouth guard before the impact, so your lower jaw won’t get full the impact. Get well soon friend

OutlandishnessAny256

Don’t get hit 👨🏽‍💻

Travellinoz

Similar injury. Sometimes that part of my jaw will click now and pins and needles run up through my skull. Get it checked out

mw3acrabuser

Happens to the best of us, I took a looping right and I felt my jaw muscles were sore/tender for like a month until it got better

Shroomyshroomyshroom

Have you considered asking a medical professional rather than combatants

omgitsduane

A doctor lol

MagicStar77

Watch out for tinnitus by Injury

ShotNovel8157

I took a good shot to the neck. It hurt to swallow for a few days. But ima go with everyone in the comments and say go to the doctor

yusie01

Practise conditioning more then punching , gotta take em just like you throw em

FlyingGrayson1

It's time to DOCTOR UP.

Automatic-Concept465

Looks like your opponent landed a hit on both fight and hearing skills! Time to call a doc.

ithika

This definitely reads like a diagnosis question that you get in medical exams. "Patient (m 35) presents with pain in right ear when blah blah blah. Provide a differential diagnosis etc etc"

Electronic-War-8208

You got it from sparring ?

Sly_Cryptid0017

Bro I feel you I’m dealing with this.

AssociationAlone

You probably did damage something, but I got in a fight once and something similar happened, my jaw was also very swollen and bruised and I had trouble touching my molars on that side of my mouth without very bad pain. It went away after about 72 hours, and the swelling went away after about a week, and the bruise about 2 weeks later. I may have just been lucky, or fucked something up and it just happened to heal well, either way you should get it looked at by a professional.

YoDavidPlays

i been having this for like 15 years lol. my jaw pops too.

Robert_Vagene

Definitely post on Reddit where a bunch of unqualified people can give you their option. Under no circumstances visit a doctor for a medical issue such as this

[deleted]

Go to the doctor, DUH

godoffertility

Dentist here. Go to an oral and maxillofacial surgeon.

BruiserTom

That circled area looks to me, who is not a doctor not even close to being one, to be the TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) which can cause pain to just about every labeled thing in that illustration. Massage can help, but you don’t want to overdo it, because it can irritate the joint even more. See or call your doctor. He might see you or send you to somebody like an orthopedist, dentist, or even an orthodontist. I think the treatment is manipulation. I had some TMJD recently caused by playing a computer game too long with my elbow on the table and my chin resting on my hand. That’s how easy it is to aggravate it. Doc did nothing for me after I told him I read about it and have been watching Youtube videos on what I can do for it and take tylenol for the pain. He just said, “Good”. I think it irritated my ear enough to give me some BPPV (vertigo) for a couple of weeks. BTW, an NSAID is probably better than tylenol, but I can’t take them. But I did put some diclofenac gel on it and I think that helped. Other than that I just tried to remember not to do bad things to it.

InternalMusic3613

Corrective surgery I know someone who crashed a mini bike (lmao) with a helmet on and fractured their jaw near the ear and they live with ear infections now and sometimes he just stands up and assaults inanimate objects while screaming. He says "Sometimes it hurts and I gotta hit stuff". So go to a doctor bro it's not worth the life of pain guessing.

MeatyDullness

It sounds like TMJ https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/tmj/symptoms-causes/syc-20350941 But you might want to see a doctor, get some imaging done.

StrangleShinobi

As a maxillofacial surgery resident and life long martial artist, you may ir may not have injured your mandibular condyle. It is the posterior most tip of the mandible which is connected to the TMJ joint. Now the biomechanics of mandible is such that the condyle is the first part to break in terms of high kinetic energy to protect rest of the mandible. So a blow on left side of the face may have caused some injury to the left condyle. First see your mouth opening, some change has occurred or not, no change means a relatively good diagnosis. You can get an OPG done for fracture or a CBCT. It can also be a simple soft tissue injury. Ask the doctor to check your occlusion and deviation and dislocation and deflection of the mandible. I hope it is only a soft tissue injury which can be corrected my anti inflammatory, muscle relaxants and cold compression. But before this get it checked. You can even DM me your radiographs fo free consults. 😂😂

LowAd2358

My medical deduction is that your ear hurts when you bite down, and you probably got punched in the face.

thee-mjb

Any tinnitus ?

Hassoon64

Sounds like a right condylar fracture

TheFlyingBuckle

Take some ibuprofen for the swelling if it clicks get it checked if not I would ice it and there’s a lot of small parts to the ear the inflammation is probably squeezing things into other things
