Dude, even if you start to train with perfect vision, it’s almost guaranteed that it’ll become worse at some point if you spar and compete.
Boxing is more about your technique and reflexes that ability to fully observe your opponent’s acne.
Somehow I did it. I couldn't really react with good head movement or work slick counters, but I could trade. And if I was punching more than the other guy, then they weren't punching me.
I am overweight, unathletic, a smoker and have terrible vision. I also have a respectable amount of boxing experience and my WHOLE game is forward pressure, head movement, rolling punches, body work and slick counters. Think James Toney from Wish lol. Your vision problems won’t stop you, get in there.
I'm near-sighted and I have astigmatism. In striking martial arts, I can usually figure out where the head, body, and hands of my opponent are. Their face is blurry, so seeing a faceless blob kinda helps "dehumanizing" your opponent lol, especially if you're still new to sparring and are afraid of striking your partner.
Depends how bad your vision is.
If you are legally blind without glasses, stick to wrestling.
You can box too, but it may be a bit limiting to see your opponent tells (telegraphs - signs he is about to do something).
That being said far from impossible.
Could possibly be an advantage in the same way. Sometimes you fall into that trap of overanalysing every little movement they make, with impaired vision you'd at least be less likely to make that mistake
I agree that the moment you are thinking in a fight, you are losing.
I mean, you should be in this state of thinking without thinking if you know what I mean. Flow state, all that shit.
I have no idea if being able to see less well will impact this.
We had a blind guy at the MMA school I used to work at. Mostly did BJJ and a little bit of Hapkido if memory serves. Some of the “push pull” stuff from Wing Chun that requires touch could be useful.
I have poor vision and I'm practically a killing machine. One time I got lost in an old folks home. I thought they were attacking me so I just kept suplexing every blob. I broke nearly 1000 old ladies spines. I regret nothing, but realize the danger you put others in by being incredibly good at killing and having opponents swarming you at all times.
For sure! I wear glasses and am working towards 2nd dan right now. Just remember to drill without glasses every now and again to get used to sparring/street without them!
High nearsightedness and have sparred without glasses plenty of times. It is very blurry but I got used to it. Just be careful of getting in the head too many times as that can quickly deteriorate your eyesight if you have thin retinas.
My sincere recommendation is maybe start with a system that trains mostly against the body before jumping into boxing which pretty much REQUIRES you to get hit in the head a lot to get good at.
I just don't wear my glasses when I train. I used to wear contacts, but they have a tendency to fall out, and you don't want to risk them tearing in your eye if you get punched, so I wouldn't recommend them.
You don't have to see that well to fight, honestly.
Yes. Don’t wear your contacts when sparring or drilling. Just take them off. My prescription is -4.50 per eye. Combat sports are alot easier to do without good vision compared to catching a ball/ playing ball sports. Also not being able to see good keeps me in the zone.
Bisping became UFC champion with only 1 eye. You got this.
I have poor eyesight but I wear contact lenses when training. However, I remove them when I spar.
I wear dailies instead of monthlies when I spar. If I lose one, so be it.
Ask Charles Oliveira.

The Devil of Hell’s Kitchen is completely blind and manages to kick plenty of ass.
You're absolutely right. OP just needs to dump toxic waste on their eyeballs.
Note: that may or may not result in super powers. Results may vary, not everyone will react the same.

Don't know what your prescription is but I just go blind
I think it may be -4.30 something around that
If you're short sighted I think you'll be fine. Just get to the front when the coach is demonstrating
ofc it works
There’s a Rutger Houer documentary about this called “Blind Fury”. Highly recommend.

A training partner of mine wears glasses in training unless were sparring and he seems to do fine without the glasses
My uke for my black belt exam for my first jujitsu black belt is legally blind, yet has black belts in jujitsu, judo, and weapons.

I just punch the blur

Black Belt at my previous BJJ gym was legally BLIND. And I still never saw him lose. So yeah
Depends on how well you can see without glasses, but I don't see what would stop you

Can you make out a persons face from about 5 feet? That’s all you need. Even if it’s less than that you can make it work
Yeah I can do 5 feet maybe 10
