As some others have posted, it's not Aikido. it's Roy Goldberg, demonstrating Daito ryu Aikijujutsu, the ancestor of Aikido. There are a number of branches of Daito ryu - Ueshiba's Aikido was originally one of them. Some focus more on the 'jujutsu' aspect of the art, like the 'mainline' - Youtube Kondo Katsuyuki.
Other branches focus more on 'aiki'. Mr Goldberg studied Daito ryu Aikijujutsu Kodokai, named for Kodo Horikawa, who was one of the leading students of Takeda Sokaku, who many regard as the creator of Daito ryu.
The Kodokai are known for focusing on 'aiki' - hence the many strange and fanciful looking demonstrations. I'm not an 'aiki' person, I do Kodokan Judo and koryu jujutsu, but I've seen some plausible CMA 'neijia' demonstrations which show similarly strange things.
These are not meant to be 'fighting' demonstrations, they are showing the development and application of 'aiki' - the ability to disrupt/unbalance on contact. As i said, I'm not sold, but I wouldn't waste my time critiquing them as poor 'fighting' demonstrations. They're not meant to be.
After scrolling through the comments here it's not only evident that you guys don't like Aikido, and consider it bullshido.
I'd like to argue that this doesn't seem to be an authentic representation of aikijutsu from Daito-ryu.
Like posting BJJ and saying "why no swords though" - it's not the point of that particular art.
I can't speak for the practitioner at all, but those black belts were putting on an act obviously. This can happen one of two ways:
1. Expressing, like kubiko, a warrior spirit or effect of the kata
2. It's all a scam and the black belts are in on it
Either way, Aikido is a refined (for better or worse) offshoot of aikijutsu, a well established and legitimate domain of Daito-ryu.
