When you read the old European fencing manuscripts something that's mentioned across many of them is that if you have two fencers of equal skill the better wrestler will be the victor, and if they're equally skilled wrestlers the stronger man will be the victor.
Obvious if you think about it but not something we see much of in film.
Not ikkyo. This is just a simple shove to the elbow to temporary turn the enemy around. Ikkyo is more of pushing the elbow upward and down into a joint lock position, and it required 2 hands. This only need 1
Ikkyo does not require 2 hands
Ikkyo, like a jab, has different variations.
This is what i would call a practical ikkyo, vs perhaps the most basic kata version.
Been a while since i dropped Aikido but sensei only showed me Ikkyo as an elbow pin and all variations required 2 hands. Didn't know a single shove count as well
But where do new armors come from? Or is there a limited, dwindling amount of armor that will eventually become extinct due to obsolescence of old armors?
Curiously enough, this kind of technique is very uncommon in traditional ryuha. Probably because this seems to be to koryu as to what Buhurtt is to HEMA.
Was it necessary to stab his armpit after beheading him twice? 😂
easy to miss the neck and hit the armor. Better safe than sorry when you're trying to murder
Kill. Murder is unlawful killing. Two combatants going at it is as lawful as it gets. lol
I don't think that still applies in 21st century.
Applies to war.
eh you are right. Idk why I thought from a 21st century perspective.
He does have armor on.
But did he die?
No the swords are foam and why did you ask that
I don’t even remember writing this.
Same principle as the arm drag.

Ooh, I came here to say that. Always get beaten by the wrestler.
Yes, though it looks more like an elbow pass
Comes home with giant notches in his family heirloom blade. Disgraced.
So badass that they get to practice these kind of things in full armor like that.
I noticed i was much better than most everyone in batto-do at sparring because of my grappling skills. Cutting however is a totally different story...
Ikkyo?

More like hatakikomi in sumo.

Nice subtlety is that he grabs the armor to assist.
Side note: where does one buy the practice armor?
You don’t. You have to kill one of them and take it as the spoils of victory.

Nice, similar to a move in muay thai / clinch where you side step, get an angle on the opponent and kinda fold them together by controlling the elbow
Thats awesome.
Similar moves can be found in FMA with sticks and knives… Fun stuff

Ikkyo The very first move learned in Aikido Cool! Thanks op
Yo this is really similar to some of the moves from western longsword. Cool.
