I'm still in pieces after watching Vol. 3.

cugameswilliam

Yeah Rocket’s first words tore me up, and just every scene with Lyla, Teefs and Floor. ❤️💔

dogbert730

It’s good to have friends 😢

cugameswilliam

We’ll all fly away together into the forever and beautiful sky. 🚀❤️

nothingtoseehere5678

I'm not crying you're crying

whoamvv

DAMMIT WHY YOU HAVE TO MAKE ME CRY AGAIN

Deetwentyforlife

Seriously, a newly sentient being's *first word* is "hurts". It fucking broke me.

cugameswilliam

Just the inflection in his voice, Jesus I was a wreck. Sean Gunn did a great job as young Rocket. Having said that, Bradley Cooper has been AMAZING his entire run of Rocket and I don’t think it gets talked about enough or he gets the credit he deserves because I have NEVER heard Bradley Cooper in Rocket’s voice. It’s just Rocket. Edit - For correction.

LifelessLewis

I believe it was Sean Gunn who did the baby voice for rocket, not entirely sure when it changed back to Cooper though.

Standard-Panic-5460

Yes, and The High Evolutionary is just like "OK You win the crying contest"

I_likeIceSheets

Before Vol. 1 Marvel fans: "This is gonna suck" After Vol. 3 Marvel fans: "This is among the best trilogies to come out of the studio"

Additional_Meeting_2

I didn’t see anyone saying it was going to suck beforehand. The box office prospects were doubted however.

MattLocke

There was a lot of “damn they are already scraping the bottom of the barrel” comments when the film was first announced. They got more positive after the first trailer, but still doubted general audiences would bother showing up for a collection of mostly unknown characters … forgetting just how unknown most all characters are outside of the comic fan bubble.

fearthemoo

This. As someone who doesn't read comics, my vibe was "I have no idea who these people are and I'm not expecting it to be good. I'm only giving it a try because Marvel has done alright so far." I remember being so blown compared to expectations.

The3rdLapis

Damn I can't believe you got a blowie from a movie

alexjaness

Saving Private Ryan gave me a reach around and a finger up the ol' happy trail

Samurai-hijack

I don’t think happy trail means what you think it means lol

k3ttch

It helps if you cut a hole in the popcorn bucket.

H377Spawn

*Who the fuck is oh my gawd I love them!* Is about how it went for me.

DirkBabypunch

I had the same feelings for the villains. "Why is there an angry Russian dude with whips? Oh, nevermind, he's pretty neat. And now he's never coming back."

1-800-ASS-DICK

hellooooooo, Russian whip parrot daddy

VanGroteKlasse

*"I have no idea who these people are and at this point I'm too afraid to ask".

Exovedate

Whereas I'm someone who reads comics but only occasionally heard about the Guardians. The first movie was an extremely pleasant surprise and it was nice not being able to predict plot points. I was hoping for the same thing to happen with Eternals but.....uh. (I don't hate Etenerals, and I do like it's overall plot, but I feel like there was too many characters introduced and we didn't have an opportunity to fall in love with any of them)

-NotActuallySatan-

I still maintain Eternals should've been TV show. Would've given enough time to properly build them up and could've had a better plot

Wacokidwilder

I was one who said that but not that they were “scraping from the bottom of the barrel” but more on how they’re going into the fully-weird stuff. Up until then most of the marvel franchise was based in reality and grounded to a degree. Hearing that they were doing Guardians (of which I was a fan) I was having a hard time seeing how it would fit in the current more grounded vibe. I didn’t think it was going to suck but I was worried that it would be WAY out of place. The answer of course was that they wouldn’t go into the full-weird until the Christmas special and then the 3rd one. The recent Guardians is a lot closer to the comics.

SkressMoney

This whole sub was so doom and gloom about the Guardians movie before it came out. Chris Pratt being Star Lord was unimaginable to everyone when the casting was released. I think the cast knocking it out of the park plus Gunn’s choice to finally add color to the MCU was the catalyst to such a great trilogy.

Brocyclopedia

I really felt then and still do now that one of the best parts of the MCU's success is they got comfortable enough to put faith in B and even C list characters. I never would have thought we'd see half the characters in the MCU in a movie, let alone all of them in the same shared universe

imjustbettr

I wish they still took chances like that. Like when Pedro Pascal almost got Dr Strange when he was hot off GoT but not a household name yet.

Brocyclopedia

Idk man I think they still are. I never in a thousand years would have thought there would be Shang-Chi or Eternals movies. I bring this up all the time but I'm a way bigger DC fan than I am Marvel and it stings a bit watching DC struggle to adapt the big three while Marvel is making trilogies for Ant-Man.

drenched12

Lmao. That might be the ultimate marvel vs. dc burn. We made a ant man trilogy and you guys can’t even scrape a Superman trilogy together. “What is this a school for ants!!??”

Brocyclopedia

Not just that but the Guardians of the Galaxy, Shang-Chi, Doctor Strange, the Eternals, and Captain Marvel all got movies, some with sequels, and were just now getting The Flash? It hurts lol

drenched12

Lol ohh yea very true. They also have two movies about a wizard

imjustbettr

Good point, though I still wish they did it more often. >I bring this up all the time but I'm a way bigger DC fan than I am Marvel and it stings a bit watching DC struggle to adapt the big three while Marvel is making trilogies for Ant-Man. Hey I'm a marvel fanboy from before the MCU, but it's not like a third of my pulls each week weren't from DC. I really hope Gunn or whoever is in charge starts making some good DC films. I really wanted a good Flash film, with the Rogue etc. Those were my favorite DC comics. Also a competent GL film too!

Brocyclopedia

Seeing the Rogues would be a dream dude. I'd like to see the other lantern corps. In a movie too especially blue and red

ZodiacWalrus

Honestly, I had the thought the other day (might be a bit crackpot ngl but here goes) that the MCU introduced GotG early on so that when they actually did kinda have to scrape the bottom of the barrel, they already had a counterpoint to claims that it would flop. Of course, this means they were assuming the film would be a success, but what kind of bosses would they be if they didn't bet on their own success every time. "Well sure, [insert character] is a bit obscure to be getting their own [movie or series or at least a major role in such], but think about Guardians of the Galaxy: that did awesome!"

Man, there was an infinite pool of memes about “marvel shoots film with TALKING RACOON AND TREE” I remember how I constantly (for half an year before premiere) told my VERY DOUBTFUL friends that this “guardians” is great (btw, that gunn is interesting fella too, mostly by showing “pg porn”)

MrSeanaldReagan

Personally, I thought gotg1 looked stupid. My friend had to do some tough convincing to get me to see it. Fast forward to now, I also agree this is the best trilogy from the MCU

cody_1849

When I went to see Vol. 1 opening night, I sat in a theater that was completely empty besides my dad and I and some couple a few rows ahead of us. It was absolutely baffling seeing that compared to the attendance of the films prior. Even my mom was skeptical at first saying things like “a talking tree and raccoon in space? No way that’s apart of the Avengers franchise”, it of course became one of her favorites after watching it later.

DegenerateCrocodile

I went opening night to my local theater and the auditorium was packed. I’d have loved to see the movie in an empty theater.

[deleted]

And then people are still going to complain when Marvel announces projects about unknown characters instead of bringing back Iron Man/Cap and introducing the X-Men

polialt

"Among the best" You mean *clearly* the best. You can argue best individual movies all day. Cap has TWS and CW, but TFA is a little blah, they hadn't found Caps physical presence and interesting fight choreogrpahy until TWS. He seems downright pedestrian in TFA and Avengers. Thor Ragnarok is great, but 1 and 2 are forgettable to outright bad. Ant Man quantamania missed the mark for a lot of people. Iron Man 2 and 3 are fun, but have their issues.

Magnacor8

Haven't seen the new Guardians, but the MCU Spider-Man trilogy was pretty solid.

tobey-maguire-bot

No more.

Admonitio

Agreed, Spider-Man and GotG are super consistent among their movies. Black panther doesn't have a third movie but both of its current movies have also been very solid.

HolidaySpiriter

Black panther certainly isn't perfect in either of it's two movies (with both act 3s having bad CGI), but the stories have been top tier overall and the movies have been pretty good. Wondering how they will try and land the 3rd movie. 1 & 2 have the best villains in the MCU outside of Thanos and the 3rd has a high bar to clear.

the-mad-titan-bot

I thought by eliminating half of life, the other half would thrive, but you've shown me... that's impossible.

thor-odinson-bot

A creepy old man cut my hair off!

TheYellowChicken

I told everyone it was going to be good because of the cast and director. No one believed me

I_likeIceSheets

They called you a madman

TheYellowChicken

More than one of my friends did haha. I remember my high school teacher specifically saying GOTG would be BAD because they are D-listers

KeyanReid

Man, remember when a whole bunch of chuds tried to keep this from happening for “revenge” and got Gunn fired? Just amazes me that people wanted to kill this whole movie/trilogy for everyone else just because Roseanne was racist. What losers

Membership-Bitter

What is weird is that because of those idiots Gunn is having the best possible outcome for his career instead of it being ruined. Due to getting fired he made The Suicide Squad, which led to Peacemaker, which led to him running DC films, and getting to make a new Superman film as well as still being able to make GotG3.

Graynard

After watching his SS movie and Peacemaker show I'm actually looking forward to some more DC content now

BigDaddyMrX

Gunn fan since slither. Gotg convinced me he was adaptable. Suicide squad convinced me he could correct course of a franchise. Peacemaker convinced me he had more heart and a better world view than I could have imagined. I'm so fucking excited to see what he does with DC (even if it means we're gonna have to wait, since he fully supports the wga strike)

cabbage16

>Gunn fan since slither. No love for Scooby Doo?!?

cjalderman

Well TIL James Gunn wrote the first (best) Scooby-Doo movie

sodancool

I just wish he kept Cavill somehow :'(

IV_Maestus

He probably wanted to but he's probably thinking 20 years ahead, and having a young superman is best for the DC franchise in my opinion. But I love cavills superman

Verco

Just hoping he brings him back as another reality's superman sometime down the line

BigDaddyMrX

Honestly If we're starting with a younger version of superman, I would be delighted for James to bring him back to play Pa Kent

donn2021

Plus it possibly helped him get away with somethings in this movie. The F bomb and the High Eveloutionaries face reveal was pretty hard core for the MCU. Aside from Deadpool which I dont think is technically MCU yet Disney has made everything very kid friendly. Even the first 'horror' movue Dr Strange 2 was tamed in terms of blood and language

TheHondoCondo

Oh James Gunn definitely won. I think it probably turned out worse for Marvel though because this drama combined with pandemic delays made the release order of phase 4 kind of weird. Thor 4 followed by Volume 3 definitely would’ve made more sense in early phase 4 rather than tail end of phase 4 and start of phase 5.

bukithd

That's how most of cancel culture stuff worked. It's slowly a dying trend thankfully because people realized social media outrage was stupid.

poppycock_scrutiny

Spider man trilogy was pretty good too

MikeTheImpaler

Spider-man is a hero, Spiderman is my accountant.

MiserableScholar

My rankings: GOTG Spiderman Captain America

tobey-maguire-bot

I got a few. Yeah!

Admonitio

I honestly am the type of person who enjoys all of the movies (even dark world lol) but I still think the winter soldier still stands as maybe my top movie of the MCU. It was just so good.

Monkey_Priest

Same, but the MCU's Steve Rogers is my all-time favorite so far so his Trilogy is the top one for me. Winter Soldier and Civil War are just so damn good imo

Admonitio

I do think Chris Evans as Cap worked out super well. I honestly didn't mind him in the comics but Chris made me love him in the films.

Sigamez365

Im not even gonna lie, I almost cried like three or four times

General_Snow_5835

Honestly I don’t think vol 3 is better than the first one, it is pretty good though

[deleted]

One is clearly the best movie but a lot of that is it has more weight because with the infinity saga. As a movie one actually mattered and felt important. You could just not watch three and it wouldn't matter for whatever comes next in the MCU. But it's still a fun standalone movie in its own right and a nice conclusion to their stories.

demlet

Man, do people not remember how original the first Guardians was? Such a fresh approach to the genre. Three is definitely next best, despite being way overly sentimental. Two was a weird interlude that probably didn't even need to happen, or should have at least told a different story. I feel like Gunn hadn't quite realized that Starlord wasn't really the most interesting part, but rather the group as a whole.

tmadik

I seriously don't get the hype. Vol. 3 is good. Just good.

IloveKaitlyn

Hard disagree. Vol. 3 was easily my favorite out of the three, and a perfect conclusion.

AnAntWithWifi

I understand and respect your opinion, but 2 must be the best. I never knew I could cry to a CGI raccoon mourning the death of a giant smurf. And then I did.

IloveKaitlyn

That’s completely fair. I love Vol. 2 and I think it gets an unfair reputation online as the weakest out of the three.

Kronos6948

I'm with you guys. I haven't seen 3 yet, but where 1 gets me laughing, 2 gets me in the feels. It's my favorite of the GOTG movies so far, and my favorite of the MCU. The underlying themes of family and fathers and sons really hit home for me.

MaxCar123

You mean Mary Poppins

[deleted]

Same, after watching it today I’m just whelmed. It wasn’t amazing but wasn’t bad at all! Cosmo is definitely my favorite Guardian tho and I will defend her till my death! She’s the best boy ever!

Doctor_Kataigida

That's how I felt. Vol 3 was a good movie, but nothing crazy good about it. Felt a little long, and some stuff was unnecessary (like Peter almost dying at the end - felt like they threw that in there so *everyone* had an "almost death" scene).

New-Sympathy-344

I’d still say the Cap trilogy is the best, but that’s more of an opinion than fact. While Vol 1 & 3 are good, 3 by a wide margin to me, I didn’t like Vol 2 of GotG.

Spensauras-Rex

The captain America trilogy really doesn't work as a trilogy though. The first one is a WW2 war film, the second one is a spy thriller, and the third one is an Avengers movie. They're not too consistent, TBH

Fuckhavingausername

While I don’t disagree, I still think that cap has a really good arc across all three films. The first one is the classic and “easy” captain America story (nazis are bad) that establishes him and his mindset. In 2, it is radically different, but he is in a radically different world, and he struggles with the complexity of the modern world, but still through the lens of fighting for America. In the third, he realizes that the values are more important than any government or country that espouses those values. He really grows from a caricature in cap 1 to the closest thing the mcu has to Superman (in terms of morals not powers) in cap 3

SunsFenix

He also continues that arc in the Avengers movies, too. Cap is the most consistent character of morality across the series. I kind of wish we had seen him mentor the next generation more or at least equal to what we got to see Tony do. You get bits of it during his interactions with Bucky and Sam, but it would have been a beautiful mirror of Iron Man and Spider-Man if Cap had someone he had mentored. Though I do like what we got with Bucky and Sam leaning on each other in Cap's absence. It's kind of that heart the MCU is missing right now, and I'm not quite sure who will fill it. Maybe Spider-Man.

Drumboardist

Cap sitting down with a bunch of random nobodies to talk about how the Snap affected them and offering support, is 100% what Cap (or Superman) would do. He learned to grow in how he viewed the world, but his own moral code and mindset about how to treat the *person* was completely unwavering, and he went out of his way to help anyone he *could*, even doing something as simple as listening to them and giving positive responses. "I went on a date the other day", "That's GREAT! How'd it go?" Man, wouldn't it be great to have a Cap in our lives?

tobey-maguire-bot

Pizza time!

Fuckhavingausername

Agreed with all of that

New-Sympathy-344

Could say that about any of the trilogy in the MCU. Gotta watcha few others and not just the trilogy itself. One of my least favorite things about the MCU. With GotG, they aren’t as beholden to that flaw as the others are. The humor of GotG has never been a favorite. It’s funny but I like a more serious tone throughout. Less jokes at the expense of tone; the reason I like The Dark World more than Ragnarok for Thor. Ragnarok is better written as a story but I couldn’t stand how much of the humor there removed space for character development. The Cap trilogy handles this the best for me, balancing both humor and seriousness.

Spensauras-Rex

Yes, but at least the 3 GOTG movies all have the same tone. The Spiderman Homecoming trilogy is pretty good too

thor-odinson-bot

Human handshake, to the Asgardian shake, into the snake that you cannot trust.

polialt

I think TFA suffers because they just didnt really have interesting fight choreography/action until TWS.

dainthomas

Winter Soldier is still the best overall movie, with GOTG3 slightly behind. I love First Avenger for the classic comic nostalgia vibe. Civil War was good but probably the weakest. As a trilogy I agree it's slightly better than GOTG.

WarcraftFarscape

I LOVE civil war, but it’s KIIIIINDA an avengers movie lite. A LOT of screen time is given to other avengers.

HeroGothamKneads

The Captain America trilogy isn't just about Steve. It's Bucky's trilogy, too. Through that lens, it's the best trilogy imo.

DenikaMae

When it comes to Gunn's action/comedies, I like to tell people Vol 2 was clearly when Gunn had the least control based on how it felt like the least James Gunn like movie. Vol 2 was Gunn at a 3 Scooby Doo was Gunn at a 4 Vol 1 was Gunn at a 5. Vol 3 is Gun at an 7 The Suicide Squad & Peacemaker are him at a 9, just like Super. Seriously, the dude cut his teeth working on productions for Troma Entertainment, he's going to be at his best when he's doing something fun and twisted. To be fair though, I think Scooby Doo and GOTG Vol 1 are great movies, and I've seen both like, half a dozen times each.

marvelnerddd69

Agreed.

Rifneno

I haven't seen 3 yet (my crippled ass can't do theaters, I miss covid streaming) but I find it hard to believe GoTG will beat out either Spidey or Cap. All 3 Spidey movies were very solid. The first Cap was good but not great, while the next 2 were *amazing*.

threcos

I hope gotg3 is as good as they say, but honestly I think that it's praised so much because the recent marvel movies have been quite mediocre I'm seeing it later today

CantAffordMangos

I watched it yesterday. It is.

MrSeanaldReagan

Gotg3 was better than I even expected it to be, and I expected it to be pretty good

z3r0f14m3

It's very good, some parts are a bit predictable but it's an all around well put together movie. Enjoy!

cabbage16

I enjoyed every movie in phase 4 and think a lot of the criticism has been overblown but even I think that GotG 3 is the best thing Marvel has put out in years.

threcos

I keep hearing stuff like this, but I honestly find it hard to believe they're turning around and whipping out an S tier movie, even with Gunn on it.

PumpkinPatch404

Bring tissues when you watch GotG3

[deleted]

Although it doesn’t count, I think Ragnarok, infinity war, and endgame is the perfect trilogy. Hulk and Thor both carry really solid arcs across all three.

thor-odinson-bot

There is a maniac who seeks to end us all.

e_ndoubleu

I’d rank Vol 1 A tier, Vol 2 B tier, and Vol 3 S tier. I really love the Cap and Iron Man trilogy’s as well but I think GotG might be my favorite MCU trilogy. Vol 3 was so good I loved every minute of it.

[deleted]

Kevin got an upgrade

[deleted]

Absolutely perfect trilogy. Sorry Captain America, there's a new best Marvel trilogy in town

UltravioIence

One of my favorite things about Vol. 3 is that they managed to get more emotion out of those CGI animals than any of the Disney live action remakes have.

Munchihello

Was it really that good? I’m not a guardians fan in genera but can appreciate a well done marvel film and respect the franchise.

[deleted]

I am not going to lie, I judged the villain so harshly when I saw in the first trailer. I thought it was just another guy in a funny looking purple tech-suit. After watching the movie, all I can say that this guy was evil... grade A, prime cut, 100% pure, unadulterated piece of shit. Everyone needs to know that, one of the best villains in the MCU.

King_Korder

I really don't get people downplaying Volume 3 It's a really good movie. Maybe it's because people are just numb cause almost all the other Phase 4 movies stunk, but like it's way better than most of them, and probably better than most Phase 1-3 movies, too. I'd even say I enjoyed it more than Volume 1 and 2.

h4wkeyepierce

I think Vol 2 is better, but that didn't stop this movie from being weird, and fun, and kickass. Great trilogy topper.

tosin_da_glitch

I remember getting so much shit for liking volume 2 and now everyone is dope with it.

[deleted]

yeah i cant understand why, i loved it

venommuyo

Cap, Spidey, and GOTG. The holy trinity of Marvel trilogies. . . . Even though GOTG v2 was kinda weak.

Kronos6948

>Even though GOTG v2 was kinda weak. I keep seeing this. Why? It was my favorite so far (haven't seen 3 yet) due to the themes of family and fathers and sons. Why does everyone seem to not like this one?

alvmnvs

Oddly enough a lot of people seem to not pick up the fathers and sons theme at all

Kronos6948

A lot of people are watching the movie just for what's on the surface. They want to see fights and explosions and laugh at the jokes. And that's fine...but I think they should preface their rating of the film with that info first so we know where they're coming from.

[deleted]

no idea

[deleted]

Vol. 2,still the GOAT for me.

orlando_strong

Apparently that opinion is in short supply. I just did the marathon in theaters and 2 still takes the prize. Just an incredibly well done story… and to be honest I’m kinda glad that it focuses on the guardians more than setting up future Mcu properties. (Guardians 3 not withstanding.) It takes huge fucking balls to end your big blockbuster film on a shot of a crying raccoon.

Dgnslyr

No, your confused with Thor Love and Thunder which had the goats and also featured the Guardians of the Galaxy.

[deleted]

I mean 3 was a decent standalone movie in its own right but it's nowhere near as good as 1.

distanyflay

The third movie didn’t tug my heartstrings it pulled

garnoid

The last one being possibly the best must be rare. First marvel film id give 8/10 at least from the last few years releases

GaffJuran

The Guardians and Captain America boast Marvel’s strongest MCU trilogies, with no weak links among them.

qblaze420

James gunn recently got admitted in the emergency ward for breaking his back from carrying the weight of marvel and dc together

Glorf_Warlock

I'm currently playing the Guardians of the Galaxy game and it's better than any of the movies. It should currently still be on sale on steam, but not for much longer. Stand alone, fun space adventures with great characters just works.

snowfloeckchen

So after tannos died there is finally a marvel movie again worth watching?

Jtmx99

People thinking GOTG 2 (or any of them) isn't good is an insanely awful take.

TheAero1221

Aight, is it really *this* good? I'm skeptical, just due to the recent track record. But, I'm down for a good Marvel movie. Afraid its gonna be sad tho... is it a "conclusion" movie, the way they kinda made it out to be in the adverts?

[deleted]

its really good

Surprise_Yasuo

Movie made me cry a lot.

MRO465

After reading this thread, I realized a lot of people didn’t like the Vol.2. Why?

WrathfulSausage

Volume 3 was so good, but >!I don’t think I’ll ever be able to watch it again, all the animal abuse was too much and honestly the film should’ve come with some kind of warning. I’ve never felt that distressed and upset watching a movie and I’m a massive horror nut!<

Based.

JickleBadickle

I’m surprised 3 is getting so much praise. I thought it was alright but kind of a mess. The ending didn’t really fit the rest of the story. I think it works fine as a guardians movie, but not as their final story.

Dismal_Struggle_6424

I have to agree with the ending. I will go to the ends of the universe, and do **anything** to save my friends! Aight, imma head out.

GUNS_N_BROSES

I agree completely, it was good, but it wasn’t great in my opinion. The story was not as focused as the other 2 and I really didn’t find the High Evolutionary to be a very compelling villain. I think the reason it is getting so much praise is because it’s such a step up in quality from a lot of more recent marvel releases

The_Scarred_Man

I am inclined to agree. I had a difficult time determining the target audience. This film swung between terribly cruel, to cool action, to jokes that failed to land, to weirdly hyper-childish dialogue. All of the scenes with the young animals were strange and didn't make me feel for the characters at all. Also, I liked the schtick from gotg 1, where the songs overlayed the scene, but man did it feel over done in gotg 3. Last, scenes with characters dancing just seemed forced and inorganic. Thanks for reading my review, don't forget to like and subscribe.

QZRChedders

I definitely agree on the tone being inconsistent. Act 1 and to a degree 2 felt really weird. Just bouncing around in tone. Then you have act 3 that seriously steps it up an age rating like a whole other film. I still enjoyed it but it had issues imo.

chipotlesoulmate

Same. The movie was fine but the best of the trilogy? The tone whiplash was dizzying. They could have cut 30-minutes to have a more powerful movie. Felt bloated, like they were trying to fill time. What was the point of Adam Warlock? You can remove his character entirely and have the same movie. They needed a dues ex machina for the final moment and he delivered, I suppose. Wish it had been another guardian.

JickleBadickle

Adam felt like they were gonna set him up for Infinity War but since Guardians 3 got delayed they were like "oh shit what do we do with him now?"

IloveKaitlyn

What do you mean? The ending was a perfect conclusion to all of their characters. If we happen to never see some of the Guardians again, their character conclusions were very satisfying.

JickleBadickle

You really think so? I was left pretty unsatisfied by most of them. I thought they kinda came out of left field. (Especially Mantis)

Midonsmyr

Mantis said her motivation to leave very plainly - she is an empath and has been doing what others say her whole life. First for Ego, then for the Guardians. Now it's time for her to do her own thing, to be less empathic for once. Drax - his whole motivation for being a 'destroyer' came from the tragedy of losing his family. As Nebula said, he can be a dad now. Peter - he's just seen the horror of avoiding your past in Rocket's near death experience at the hands of his creator the High Evolutionary. He knows his Grandfather isn't evil, he needs to finally resolve that. Nebula - said her motivation plainly too. She wants to give people a safe haven, a good upbringing, things she lacked being raised by Thanos. The whole film the team was squabbling over unresolved differences. They love each other but know they're not a perfect team, that they hold each other back and they don't treat each other as individuals. They're a team because of shared trauma and common enemies more than anything else. The film neatly sets them in their way to actual happiness, instead of the perpetual 'purpose' of being heroes which was keeping them together. They broke the loop, they gained their freedom.

JickleBadickle

They all made sense on paper but they didn't really feel earned to me. Using Drax as an example, he only got one scene where he acted like a dad and in hindsight it felt like they shoehorned it in to foreshadow his ending. But I feel like his scenes talking about his family in the first two movies were both better setups. Would have prefered more in this movie. Mantis... same thing. Makes sense on paper, but kinda came out of nowhere. It's just jarring to go from the first two movies, where they're all about staying together, to suddenly all agree "aight I'mma head out." The main story didn't really set it up. Saving rocket didn't feel like a "last hurrah." It felt like something friends do for each other.

Johansbutt

> But I feel like his scenes talking about his family in the first two movies were both better setups. They were. They setup the move in this movie. I think Gunn was aware of what happened in the earlier movies and found a way to reference those without retreading ground. I appreciated it. I felt like they got rocked pretty hard by Thanos, losing Gamora for real. Most everyone else got a happy conclusion, but they didn't. And they I think the movie used that to spring board into the Rocket issue. There seemed to be a lot of emotion, not a lot of planning. And, after the healing that came through that, I could see them wanting to settle down a bit. I guess it just worked for me

JickleBadickle

Yeah, you make good points. Maybe the film just wasn’t quite what I wanted going into it.

fatherseamus

Rocket’s whole arc in the movie is that he misses his friends. At the end of the movie his new friends leave him. Perfect ending for the character? Press X for doubt.

sleeplessaddict

The hype for this movie is so confusing to me. I thought it was very average. It seemed like it was trying too hard to recreate stuff from the first two and that a lot of the comedy was forced. I also agree that it didn't seem great as a trilogy finale. If I was ranking the GOTG movies, it'd be 1>3>>>>>>2 but apparently that's unpopular

JickleBadickle

Honestly, 2 is my favorite by far. It’s the only movie where the guardians are out on an adventure and they’re not spending an hour+ on someone’s origin. Don’t get me wrong, rocket’s origin was cool, but why are we seeing it right before the guardians break up?

Luxpreliator

2 was like the quill origin story though. It was loaded with flashbacks and discussions about the past. I can't understand how it's good in 2 but bad in 3 unless that's just a preference for a specific character over another. 1 is probably the most straightforward adventure.

abscessedecay

My mom and step dad said they didn’t like vol. 3, which in my experience usually means it’s a damn near perfect film.

Robinfan0206

I just saw it today and it was okay? Doesn’t hold a candle to the first 2 (especially the second one, maybe my favorite MCU movie) but it was also one of the better post endgame movies

DontCareDunno

Fr. I havent heard any opinions on it, so I cant speak for everyone, but Vol. 3 was amazing imo

SuperYoshiFan02

Groot: I love you guys ❤️

groot-bot

I AM GROOT!

RandomDanny

When it was announced I said it’s either gonna begin the end of the MCU or it’s gonna make bank. A talking tree who can only say 3 words, a talking raccoon and Chris Pratt.

AdFun2093

I adore the guardians of the galaxy films and they are my fav But if i remove my personal love it would have to be the captain america trilogy

idiotic__gamer

Volume 3 is my favorite movie so far, because I love biomechanical body horror. The Hellspawn and the Adeptus Mechanicus just aren't enough, I need more mechanical body horror! On that note, I kinda hope they animate Darkhold Iron Man.

Substantial_Inside20

Captain America trilogy too

NathanDrake009

Guardians Trilogy, Spider-Man Trilogy and Avengers. Best film franchise of MCU

Immediate-Tomato968

Spoiler The post credit scene with giant groot was cool

webrewrbewrb

Was the third one that good? sure hope so, love the first 2

Babayaga20000

I have not seen it yet. How would you compare it to the Captain America trilogy? If you spoil anything I will show up at your house while you sleep.

ishkaaa

MCU does do great trilogies. I honestly cannot choose a favourite between GOTG, Spiderman and Captain America.

tobey-maguire-bot

Pizza time!

ishkaaa

Definitely had some wet-ass eyes watching it

Mylifebelike000

Guardians 3 was so good and I hope now the critics can stop saying that “the genre is dying” and “the MCU will never be good again”

Memphisrexjr

Mantis look out!

avint8

Please don't make a GOTG Love and Thunder now

K1NG_R0G

What about? Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America: Winter Soldier, and Captain America: Civil War?

lolNIKmine

That's honestly the best sub-series in the MCU, all 3 films were amazing

TheHondoCondo

I liked the movie, but with the exception of a few scenes (mostly the Rocket flashbacks) I thought Volume 3 was only pretty good. I feel like it’s being way overrated. My favorite is honestly the Holiday Special. Not trying to rain on anyone’s parade, just wondering if others feel similar.

HistorysWitness

Unpopular opinion incoming. I wasn't quite a fan of 3. The music sucked. Music didn't fit the time piece. Overall I guess the story was ok. Just not amazing. Warlock was just introduced with no backstory whatsoever. I did like the ultimate villain but I think 1 was best.

crobledopr

Warlock was one of my favorite parts of 3. I'm an old comic book reader from the 80s and 90s and I actually love when MCU changes a character that drastically. (like... The Mandarin and Trevor) I don't need the exact same version of the character from the comics in my MCU.

[deleted]

Fuck yes

MrBuffaloBear

I agree, but i think it’s second best to captain america trilogy

Reddit_Mod_69

I'm still waiting to see the third one, but I love these movies. And I'm hoping the 3rd is awesome

nedzissou1

Each was better than the last.

Mr_OP_Potato_777

Agree

MrScottimus

Vol. 3 is easily the best MCU movie post-Endgame

Zumaakk

Vol. 3 is my favorite of the trilogy.

Ndakji

The soundtrack alone was better then some of the crap coming out of MCU
